Get the Magners cider. Be careful drinking it too fast.....it's that good.
Make reservations on OpenTable to earn your dining points.
The Whiskey Chicken Boxty is my favorite.
Their menu changes every so often (at least for the appetizers) because I had a few faves that are not currently on the menu.
Can be very crowded on Friday and Saturday nights, especially during the warmer months.
I don't drink, yet I find myself at this bar most weeks. Probably since it's one of the only places around here for umdnj students to hang out at. And the bartenders give me free Cokes so that's what's UP. I really love this place- the ambience is really laid back and there's nothing sleezy about this bar. The music isn't too loud so you can just hang out and converse. One of the rooms in the back actually looks like a study and is super quiet so if for any reason you wanted to study there..you could. They have trivia night on Tuesdays, which I went to tonight, and it was pretty corny but fun for us nerds. Also there's a really cool outside area where they have a fire pit and cute seating. I had the molten lava chocolate cake tonight w a scoop of vanilla icecream on the side and I was ready to kiss the baker. We also hold a lot of our school events here and it's a good time. Overall, thumbs up!
Review Source:No complaints, really. I probably won't remember it a month from now, but it wasn't too bad of a place to have a meal.
If that doesn't sound like the highest of praise, well, it's not. It's overpriced. The food was decent -- turkey chili to start followed by Whiskey Chicken Boxt -- but the chili was lukewarm. The Whiskey Chicken, strong in places, felt undercooked in others.
And then they hit you with the pricetag. I had two beers, a starter and a meal, for $40. Â $40?!
I could see coming here with buddies and having fun. If I meant to bash the place, I wouldn't give it three stars and prop it up. But it's a neigborhood fake Irish bar -- nothing more, nothing less.
The bartender was friendly, there was space to breathe at the bar, and the food was decent -- that earns you three stars. But you have to be superior in some capacity to earn the other three, and it just wasn't evident at Dubh Linn for me.
Well, Jim B's review has me a little bummed! I was looking forward to trying shepherd's pie or bangers & mash next time I stopped by.
Started out with banger wontons, which were very hot (temp-wise) when we got them. Burned my tongue, of course, but that's okay because they were different & yummy. Followed up with the Whiskey Chicken Linguine. You never know if your pasta w/ a cream sauce is going to work out. Will it be heavy pasty and relatively tasteless? Will it sing with warmth & flavor going down behind your ribs?
Surprisingly, on the scale from bland to heart-warming, this dish landed decidedly on the heart-warming end. Good on ya, Dubh Linn. Granted I sat outside and ordered food not typically thought of as traditional, but Dubh Linn is square with me. (And my dude, though I forget what he ordered)
I recently received a message on Yelp from Mike, the owner of Dubh Linn Square, saying that he understood my gripe, and was changing the brunch menu this weekend to include additional lunch items. Â As well, he said he was going to offer the lunch menu all day, in addition to the brunch menu.
That makes me happy. Â It's awesome when a business owner will not only acknowledge someone's gripe, but change things in their business to better serve the customer. Â Bravo, Mike! Â We'll be back in next weekend!
Good enough place for burgers and beer.
It's one of those "let's just go there" places when you don't feel like venturing out too far and just want something along the lines of a cheeseburger or so-so steak or so-so Irish food like a so-so shepherd's pie. Â The pub half of it seems to be lively but that's usually not my thing.
Finally! After frequenting the original Dubh Linn (I miss "Dublin") Square in Bordentown for the past couple of years, I decided to check out the "other" one near Cherry Hill. I first noticed how much larger version 2.0 is; plenty of dining area and a large, central bar. I grabbed a stool just as the Phillies game was starting and looked over the draft list. Not a ton of selections, but enough to keep my interest. I tried a couple of new things and really liked the Port Brewing "Hot Rocks."
They were still serving brunch for the first hour I was there, but I was still stuffed from my late breakfast earlier. The menus are fairly similar at both locations, with only a couple of variations. Not necessarily a bad thing by any means. Just like it's older brother, DS II is worth a stop for good food and good drinks.
We stopped by after the movies and found a nice place to grab a quick snack. Â Turkey Club was stuffed high with turkey and came with a choice of starch or a salad. Â Hummus appetizer was nicely seasoned; and a good portion size. Â
I am looking forward to going back for dinner and seeing how their new chef has improved the manager.
Waitstaff are attentive and friendly!
Really good bar. The food here is way above average bar fare. I have been here on numerous occasions, but never wrote a review. The service here has always been great. On one visit the place was packed on a Friday night. Our waitress was very patient with us as we were unsure what drinks to order as the beer list was full of interesting choices. Last night our waitress Erin was very attentive and was always there as our glasses were 3/4 empty. I hope to have her as my waitress when I go back again. My wife initially ordered a margarita and decided to try a mojito as her second drink. The mojito sucked, the only bad thing I can say. Erin had another blood orange margarita at the table.
Review Source:In town from Washington state and hit this place for beers. Â Wow! Â Port Brewing Schwarzbier, Goose Island Matilda, Unibroue. Â Served at proper pour temps. Â The server didn't seem to know much at all about the beers (I had to say "Port Brewing" because "schwarzbier" confounded him). Â But this ain't Washington where craft brews are everywhere in abundance and servers get trained in how to distinguish (sell) them. They get an A for effort in this place. Â A+ for beer selection savvy.
Review Source:Everything was alright but I'm thinking a better bar scene than a restaurant. I want to add to the other reviews that there is a fairly extensive beer menu, although don't ask the waiter for a recommendation. Also, I was happy to see that in addition to the only two things people think the Irish eat ( fish & chips, and bangers) there was beef stew and boxty. You don't often see boxty, which is a potato crepe like dish.
Review Source:The food is ok, but I mostly go here for the bar. I like that there are three bars (4 when it is warm) and you can get away from the live band if you want, or be right in the thick of things. Â I like the way that they do the fire pit outside, there is enough seating room around it, so it's usually available.
Review Source:I was looking for something different and fun for my Friday night. Â I decided to check out Dubh Linn Square for drinks and a late night snack. Â
I visited several of the bars within this Irish Pub. Â I found drinks to be fairly cheap ($3.50 for a Bud Light Bottle). Â I also found that they had an amazing selection of draft beers. Â Unfortunately, service for drinks was lacking. The bartenders seemed to favor the locals and their friends. I felt more left out than having no one to sit with at lunch in school! Bartenders at the main bar took 20 minutes to even acknowledge my presence. Â At the other two bars, initial service was quick, but getting return refill service was slow. Â It was also like being at a big party where everyone knew each other except for you. Â The bartenders and extensive staff didn't do anything to make me feel at home. Â There was no banter or small talk.
Food service was quick and efficient. Â I ordered the Irish Dubh Linn Sampler - and the food came out fast. Â It was hot and it looked great! Â I love condiments, so I especially appreciated the three dipping sauces. Â My favorites on the sampler were the potato balls in wing sauce, the sausage roll and the cheesesteak spring rolls. The rest of the menu contained at least a handful of things that I would return to try. Â I appreciated that the menu had traditional Irish fare, as well as some surprise dishes.
In terms of atmosphere, I liked the nice woods that made up the bars and dining areas. Â I liked the open nature of the main bar, as well as open round bar upstairs. Â I thought I would like the intimate bar on the first floor. Â However, the live band in the next room competed with music over a sound system. Â Both were too loud to begin with. Â The band itself was pretty good -- and if I had another beer or two I would have been inclined to dance with my friends.
All in all, the visit was average. Â On a positive, I would return and recommend the great food, the food service, the cheap drinks, the nice atmosphere and the draft beer selection. Â On a negative, if service is important to you then you either want to go elsewhere or warm up to the bartenders when you arrive. Â Also, if you are looking for somewhere fun that lets you talk to your friends, pick a night when there isn't so much noise.
Decent place with nice ambiance. A little on the large side for a pub, but also doesn't smell like urine and ashtrays which would have been a more authentic experience.
One thing I admire about the greater Philadelphia area is the fact that food and drinks are so inexpensive here relative to other cities I have been to, but this place broke that rule. As far as I know no specials were advertised and it was still a weeknight (thursday), which is very bizarre if you want to attract regular customers.
5.61 probably the most I've payed for a pint of guinness by 61 cents. I've never seen it above 5 anywhere, so while it's not more expensive by much lest we forget a four pack of 22oz cans of Gunness runs at 7.99, this is still a rip off by restaurant standards. They do have a great selection of micro's though.
Food is pub fare at chain restaurant prices. Again it seems a little overpriced for what it is by about 10-20%, and especially so if you consider the area.
However, the food was good and the drinks were cold and served properly. There were tv's all around to satisfy the sport fanatic. It's just not a place I would frequent unless they had at minimum some off-hour specials, which may very well exist but weren't advertised to us at all.
I'm going right down the middle for this review as there are definitely good points and poor points to address.
We arrived here last Sunday the 4th of Dec. with a party of 10. That's 8 adults and 2 children under 7. I would say the entire restaurant was about 25% full with most of the crowd around the bar or in the main dining room. A reservation had been made in advance for the dining room yet some how we ended up on the lounge side of the bar instead.
We were seated immediately and our drink orders were taken and we received them back a few minutes later. At this point, we placed our order for 3 different appetizers and our waiter 'Anthony' disappeared. We didn't really notice it at first until everyone's first round of drinks bottomed out. There's no waiter coming by and we're still waiting to order food and get utensils. On top of that, the place is starting to fill up.
It's been close to 45 minutes since we arrived and fortunately the manager came by the table and asked how things were. We let him know we'd like to have our apps and order our main course, we haven't seen our waiter. The manager, who's name I didn't catch, was johnny on the spot. He took our refill drink orders right there and and also the order for the kids dinners. Anthony returned a few minutes later and took our dinner order. Apparently Anthony had his ass chewed. He was a robot the rest of our visit.
Less than 10 minutes later our app's arrived along with the kids Mac & Cheese too. I sampled two of the apps and they were pretty good. The first one was the Bangers Wonton which was Irish Sausage & onion wrapped in Wonton then fried. Very good, especially with the HP sauce. The other app I tried was the Chicken Nacho's which tasted like a jerk chicken that had plenty of cheese and jalapeno's as well. Very tasty.
Our main course arrived shortly after the apps were finished. I had the Guinness Meatloaf, as did my brother. The meatloaf was a mixture of lamb, beef and pork, Guinness, onion, spices, etc... It was delicious and piled on top mashed potatoes and covered in gravy. There were also some veggies on the side. Was the bomb! Also on the table were Bangers & Mash and a whole bunch of Rueben's.
All in all, once the manager came by and got the ball rolling it was alright. He definitely saved the experience. Anthony the waiter needs to work on his sense of urgency or find something else to do other than work in the restaurant industry.
The atmosphere is good here for an after work drink. The bartender was friendly and they have cheap drink specials. I wish the menu had more healthy options even though I realize this is still a bar. I had the leek soup which was creamy and delicious. Â I was told there is also quizzo on Wednesdays so I've been meaning to check that out too.
Review Source:I did try the food during a Monday night game, it's fair to mediocre bar food, the wings were ok, the smokin leprechaun wings were pretty tame.
There's nothing authentic about this food, so don't get your hopes up for really tasty traditional Brit or Irish bar grub. Â Â Beer list is ok, some of the tap brews I tasted on a recent Monday night seemed flat and not as fresh as it should be.
I've had a number of lunches and one dinner here. I've met friends and hung out at the bar many times enjoying a nice atmosphere. Food was good and servers always friendly.
Then I went for a Chamber of Commerce event. We each paid $20. which did not include drinks. All they served (at dinnertime) were 2 appetizers and a salad consisting of nothing more than iceberg lettuce with croutons. The Chamber President complained and then the manager came out with appetizer trays (more fried food). At least they tried but we were all disappointed that a complaint had to be registered to feed a hungry crowd who paid up front for food. The Chamber will not be back!
Is it kinda a corny Irish pub? Â Yep. Â Do I care? Â Nope.
We made our maiden voyage here on Friday for a drink before a movie and were served right away. Â Sat at the bar, had three separate friendly people as if we needed anything - it was pretty crowded so I appreciated their attention.
Went back on Saturday early afternoon for lunch to test drive the food, and our bartender, Rich, was awesome. Â We had $4 Holy Trinities (Harp, Smithwick's, and Guiness) and burgers. Â They do NOT cook burgers rare - I got my standard "As rare as legally possible" and this was medium at best - the smallest hint of pink in the burger but it was still very good. Â Could have used several degrees cooler though. Â Husband got the cajun burger and this was freaking tasty!
The teriyaki sauce for the wings were excellent (a Rich recommendation) and the fries/chips were extremely good.
This place isn't cheap though..they're the type of place where the floor on the prices is like, $8.50/$9.00 so an appetizer and two sandwiches plus beers can get pricey if you're not paying attention. Â
They have Fox Soccer Channel on, and put it on the screen in front of me right away so I could watch the United match, so I was happy.
I'll definitely go back!
Ok so I am definitely a frequenter of the "Dub" but this last time my heart fell a little.....they changed the wing sauce!!!
Before their hot wings were a glorious burn your mouth off HOT....but now they have changed the names and apparently the sauce. We got the hot and leprechaun...and neither were hot at all...I only ate one because it wasn't worth it.....::sob sob::
So overall the atmosphere is still great, the service is also good, and really the food overall is definitely good. But without the wings it just isn't the same.
This Dublin Square is related to the one on Bordentown, but much larger. My son and I ate at the bar and just had their standard bar food which is very good. Beers are excellent. The bartender was really friendly along with the bar staff and helped us find other clubs in the area with bands. They have a really nice outdoor area where you can have a cigar and eat. Much like a beer garden.
Review Source:I really wanted to love Dublin Square, but I agree with my fiancé -- the best parts were my HP sauce and the beer... both made elsewhere. I'm originally from the UK and was ready for a somewhat traditional meal that was reminiscent of my past. Don't get me wrong, the food was "okay." In fact the best part of the meal itself were the sausage rolls. They weren't bad, but not great either. My fiancé ordered the meatloaf which sounded delicious - beef, lamb and pork! Yum! Unfortunately, it was very bland. Seasoning seemed to be something that was overlooked at Dublin Square. If trying to live up to the "bland" stereotype that this cuisine has been labeled with, they have achieved it. But bland is not a word I'd use to describe the food I know -- it can be so much richer and flavorful! So sad.
On the other hand, I enjoyed the atmosphere. I see how it could be a bit loud for some, but it didn't bother me much. We were in on a Wednesday night and it was packed! So, the volume was very high. I could've done without the televisions on every wall. Maybe just keep them to the main room (bar)? The service was outstanding! Our waitress was very knowledgeable and honest. I appreciate that. She swayed us from a few choices knowing how they've been received in the past. She moved us toward dishes that her guests had better experiences with, but even then didn't seem 100% secure in the quality of food coming out of the kitchen.
As I looked around, I noticed that there were a lot of quesadillas, onion rings, salads, burgers, etc. being delivered to tables. This makes me think it's more of an American bar that was hoping to incorporate traditional Irish fare. There were a lot more burgers and onion rings on tables than boxty dishes or stews.
It's a good stop off for a quick bite and is reasonably priced. I'd think that if you were going out with a bunch of friends for beer, this could be a good choice. You can hang out for a night out with your friends then grab some bar grub afterward to fill any empty bellies, but don't expect killer Irish fare.
I went to Dublin a few nights back. I pass by all the time and always see the fire pit outside going. So I decided to give it a whirl. It was OK and nothing more. I didn't order food but took a look at the "late night" menu. The prices seemed a bit high for bar food but I cannot speak for the quality. Yuenglings were $2.50 so my girlfriend and I ordered a couple and sat outside. The atmosphere of this place is cool. It is huge inside. I think there are two levels. The outside area is really cool as long as there are no smokers in your face. However, it gets extremely loud here. There was an acoustic duo set up inside, which was terrible, and was so loud that you could barely hear yourself think. From my understanding, this is mild compared to how loud it gets on Fridays and Saturdays. Overall, I may return to check out the food or come back for a few drinks, but I was not blown away after my first visit.
Review Source:My fiance and I went to Dublin Square last night and were bowled over by the food and atmosphere - and the service was great as well!
We both had the Dublin Square Pub Burgers as we were not in an experimental mood - what a great choice! Â We have been looking for a good old-fashioned hamburger; big, juicy and favorable. Â This burger was all that and MORE! Â We "up-ordered" to the Sweet Potato Fries and they were outstanding as well. Â On the table top was an English mustard called "Colmans English Mustard" - it's similar to Grey Poupon but with a lot more "kick" to it. Â First time I had it - and when I got home I searched Google for a source - it was that good.
Pricing isn't fast food - but the quality and service make it well worth the cost. Â We will definitely be heading back and it makes the (very) short list of Favorite spots for a Hamburger.
Atmosphere is authentic Irish - Kilts on the wait staff are optional but the friendly staff really seems to enjoy their job.
My overall feeling is that Dublin Square is doing it right!
Happy atmosphere. Great service. Fair prices. Id go back! The sweet potato fries are amazing, served with an almond butter. Make sure you order these no matter what you get for dinner! Â I'll come back just for those!
Pesto chicken sandwich with goat cheese was really good. Overall good place, not very Irish if u want an authentic Irish pub this is not the place. But its still great, and a fun place to party.
I really liked it here. Maybe its because I had an awesome bartender. Maybe its because they had Magic Hat No. 9 on tap. Maybe it's because I'm a sucker for irish pubs and girls in kilts.
Whatever the case may be, the folks at Dublin Square have something that works. They have a lot of TVs, although the night I was there it was pretty much two events on all of the TVs. They have a good beer selection as well. I was a few drinks in when I got my dinner, but it was delicious just the same.
Along with that, the Flyers AND Union won the night I was there so it was a pretty lively crowd. This place DOES get packed and there definitely is not a specific age group that this place brings in. There were younger and older people at this bar.
There's a lot to like about this pub. It's very spacious, there are three bars. But it also gets very crowded. We got in at about 8pm and were told we would have to wait an hour for a table. We figured "What the heck" and got a pager. Four hours later after we found a random table upstairs, the pager still hadn't gone off.
Anyway, I can definitely see myself as a regular at this place.
I've been to Dublin Square twice and both times had issues. First time, on a Sat night, I was told I could sit at a side table near main bar that was unoccupied (I asked the 'host') while I waited for friends. Maybe 20-30 minutes later they attempted to throw me out saying that area had been reserved. When my friends eventually showed they explained that we had to order 'full meals' because the area was reserved seating (however, not the case). Extremely rude service along the way. Some guy in a skirt thought he was going to muscle me out of the table until I got up and told him to get out of my face. True story.
My second visit - on a Friday for Happy Hour. This time also at the same side table as before. Nobody tried to kick us out - probably because it was not as crowded - but the service was horrible. My friend was given the wrong drink, food orders were placed on the wrong tabs. Service was also slow. On the plus side the food is decent. Waiter (who hires men to host and serve?!?!), said while yes he put my friend's app on my tab (however, I was told this after I asked about charges on the bill) he put two of my beers on hers. OK, amount of tip left: $0.
What you should know if you've never been there: the parking is horrible. Spaces are taken up by patrons at Short Hills Deli among others. There is also a valet which is basically required and ridiculous if you don't get there early.
Dublin thinks of itself as a trendy pub but it clearly has many service issues that prevent it from being a good experience. They need to realize it is actually their pleasure having me and my friends spend our money in there instead of the other way around.
ps. Be aware that if you go with a date or friends and you are older the place fills up with 20 year olds around 9-10pm. It will be very loud around the bar area. A good time to exit if you've made it that long after dinner. Recommend only for Happy Hour and maybe an early dinner. But there are better alternatives in the area including Iron Hill Brewery in Maple Shade. Good Luck.
Ribs were very tender and the sweet potato fries with the honey pecan sauce is very good. Ambiance is good. Not too expensive. Menu is not the most extensive but good for a local pub. My wife got the blue cheese burger. It tasted good but slightly dry but she needed it well done since she can't eat red meat. The salmon was moist and tasty too. The place overall doesn't wow you but it's equivalent to going to Friday's but with a little more cache.
Review Source:How do you run OUT of an appetizer before 6 p.m. on a Saturday??!!!! Â Very poor planning...I wonder what else was "out" on the menu. Â
My husband and I stopped in here for a drink and an appetizer, and as this is an Irish bar, decided to order the most Irish-sounding appetizer on the menu: Sausage Rolls (might be wrong with the name...but the Irish sausage, cheese, onion, wrapped in some tasty dough, probably deep fried...anyways...sounded delish)...but VERY EARLY on a Saturday night they were already out. Â The bartender said "the cheesesteak springrolls are just as good." Â Well, ok, fine, so we ordered those. Â Three on a plate for $9....kinda stingy, but they were tasty. Â Then we split the chicken pesto sandwich, on ciabatta bread, a breaded chicken cutlet with melty fresh mozzarella (yum) and ... pico de gallo. Â Apparently they were out of the roasted peppers that were supposed to be on the sandwich...so I guess anything red was an appropriate substitute in their eyes.
The sweet potato fries had a yummy cinnamon/sugar butter w/walnuts melted on top, but there weren't many on the plate...again...stingy.
Beer selection was good, several Irish selections on tap which I always appreciate (as opposed to bottled). Â Drinks were not cheap, but not the most expensive either.
The drinks were good, some a little messy as a few of the bartenders seems a bit inexperienced, but overall a good bar experience. Â The place was PACKED and the wait for a regular table was ridiculous...wow, I know it's a new place, but wow, I felt like I was at the Cheesecake Factory...
Overall I'd love to come back and give it a second try...loved all the tv's...so come college football season this fall, might be a great place to watch some ND football. Â Hopefully by then they will have worked out the kinks and be better prepared for a Saturday night crowd.
I have been patronizing this building since it was Olive 10-15 years ago. Dublin Square did a nice job on the remodel. The place looks great. The food is mediocre, and so is the beer list.
Our server seemed to be training because he had a much more competent looking shadowing him. We ordered our drinks and waited almost ten minutes for them. I ordered the "Triple B" burger, which features Irish (B)acon, Ground (B)eef, and (B)leu Cheese. For the first time visit to a pub I usually go for the signature burger to Gage a first impression, and boy did I get one. The bun was stale, the burger was small, dry, and overcooked, the bacon was thin and tasteless, and the bleu cheese was a thick paste. TERRIBLE. The "Steak cut Chips" were just as bad. They are a cheap food service fry with little flavor or character. They could easily be cutting their own fries!
My wife ordered the Fish and Chips. She mentioned that the fish was moist, but small. She had the same complaint about the Steak Cut Chips. For my daughter we ordered a grilled cheese. When the server brought out our food he said that the kitchen had burnt her grilled cheese so he made them redo it. This was the 3rd kitchen screw up I had witnessed in 20 minutes. The couple at the table next to us ordered the Seafood Pasta with Salmon. One of their dishes had no salmon. The table on the other side of us had the wrong food brought to their table. I know the place is new and there is a growing process, but get a competent chef in the kitchen!
I would consider going back for beer and wings at the bar with some friends to watch a Phillies game, but besides that, I probably will not return.
While out running errand last night, my husband and I decided to give Dublin Square a try. He wanted to check it out and he heard it was kids eat for a dollar night.
The remodel looks great. I have been in every reincarnation of this spot for over 10 years. Â Anyway, it is a nice open space with a good looking bar and lots of separate dining rooms.
After being seated, the server, who asked if we needed any help navigating thru the menu (really???) had to check with the bar when my husband asked which dogfish head was on tap. STRIKE ONE.
When we placed out order my husband ordered the triple B burger (beef, irish bacon, and bleu cheese), I ordered the fish and chips, and my daughter ordered the grilled cheese. The fish and chips comes in two sizes, single and double. I asked about the difference and was told the single had one piece of fish, the double had two. The one fish stick was pretty small and looked even smaller on top of the mound of 'steak fries' they gave me. My husband did not really enjoy his burger, so it must have been pretty bad.
When our food came, our server told us that they were remaking my daughters grilled cheese sandwich because it was burnt. Now, the grilled cheese is only on the children's menu, so which line cook put that up on the window thinking it was a good idea? Ever had a hungry child who got served 5-7 minutes after you? STRIKE TWO!
I will say that as far as a child friendly place, it is nice. It is large and noisy so a child is not distracting. They give crayons and a double sided menu/coloring sheet. Monday nights are kid's night and they had a balloon guy there, which excited my daughter. Until he came over and started talking to her and calling her by her name, which totally freaked her out. (she is 2 and shy) but even this morning she was still enjoying the balloon, so I won't hold it against him.
Overall, I was not impressed and will not return.
My wife and I have been monitoring the progress of this place ever since the "coming soon" signage made an appearance several months ago. Â We we're excited to see it finally open for business on our most recent drive-by and decided to stop in.
The first thing you'll notice about this place is its size -- it's huge! Well appointed with your standard pub decor but a slight upgrade in quality and creature comforts from your standard South Jersey Irish pub. Â The space is smartly divided into "rooms" to allow for a more intimate dining experience with Flat Screens throughout, great natural light, hardwood floors, and even a cozy fireplace. Â Our waiter informed us that there is also an upstairs that is used for "Irish Sessions".
The food is also a step up from your standard irish pub, but some items were certainly better than others. Â We made it in the door by 3:00 so we were presented with the lunch menu which was sparse but included a decent array of traditional irish fare as well as some pub classics (burger/cheese steak/etc). Â I ordered the Veggie sandwich with Sweet Potato fries and my wife ordered the Cheesesteak with "Steak Cut Chips" (which turned out be be fries). We also ordered the "spicy potatoes"
The spicy potatoes were AMAZING and certainly the highlight of the afternoon. Â They consisted of small, bite-sized, new potatoes - deep fried and then tossed in buffalo sauce and topped with crumbled blue cheese. Â I'd happily take those things over buffalo wings any day, they were THAT good. Â However, they do charge $8 for them which is on par with what you'd pay for wings, a bit pricey in my opinion considering the small portion and substitution of a cheap starch for a more expensive protein (chicken).
My sandwich was ... ok. The veggies had a great char on them and were tasty. However, I think the lid to the salt shaker may have fallen off back in the kitchen, it was WAAAY over-salted. The roll also seemed a bit stale and dry. Â Less salt and a fresh roll would make that sandwich a home-run. Â The Sweet potato fries, however were a home run. Fresh-cut (thick), crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside..perfect. Â They also had some kind of topping that tasted salty/sweet/nutty, not sure what it was - but it was good!
My wife, however, did not like her meal at all. Â The steak on the cheese steak was cooked to death, thick-cut and dry. There was not enough cheese to counteract the dryness of the steak and the roll was large/fluffy and overpowered the small amount of meat within. Â We laughed it off and I told her, Â "that's what you get for ordering a cheese steak from an Irish Pub in NJ" The fries were good, however, with a hint of curry powder (surprise!) to enhance the flavor.
We just ordered sodas, but we heard our waiter running through the beer menu with another guest and it sounded amazing - lots of good imports/micros. Â We'll need to check that out next time. Â The dinner menu sounded good, as well - much more diverse than the lunch menu.
Oh, and it's a place you can go with a 1-year old, no problem with high chairs or awkward stares.
All-in-all a great addition to the south jersey pub scene and I'm looking forward to trying the rest of their menu. Â There are a few things, food-wise, that could use some attention but I am confident they will work through those items as they gain some footing and this place will become our new go-to spot for a quick pub-fix.
This pub just opened a few weeks ago. The original pub is located in Bordentown, NJ. Â This property previously housed the Swanky Bubbles restaurant. Â We decided to check this pub out today for a little Saturday afternoon day drinking. I like the outside/inside facade. It reminds me of the Kildare's pubs and Fado pub in Pennsylvania. The building is huge with many rooms/alcoves. Â As soon as you walk in you are greeted by a large size bar. To the right of that bar is a nice 'standing room' area with table- top tables and TV's..... I can see that area becoming the soccer/football den. On the same floor is another smaller bar located in the sun room (that has a view of the outside patio). Â That outside patio has a fire pit and I was told that it has radiated heated floors. Â The pub also has an upstairs bar (kind of cool as you can look over the rail and see part of the downstairs). The food menu has a mix of traditional Irish fare along with modern offerings. Â I had a few pints of Smithwick's ale. I had the soup-of-the day that was a hearty cup of sausage, chicken, potato, pea, carrot, etc. .... Â very tasty. I had a tender crispy parmesan panko crusted chicken sandwich with tomato, mozzarella cheese with basil mayonnaise on foccacia bread, it was very good. The fries were tasty as well. (They were more or less steak size fries; I would have liked them a little crispier). I could have sworn that the fries had a subtle dusting of curry? Â Whatever it was, Â me likes ! Â The ketchup tasted homemade. I also tried the English style mustard (Colman's), has a nice kick. Â We also tried the Shepherd's pie (beef/lamb). I have not been to Ireland so I can't compare but we thought it was delicious. Â Our server was friendly and efficient. Â just an FYI for the ladies: The main bar has hooks under the bar so you can hang your handbag/purses, always a plus. We had a lot of fun at the bar. The crowd was a good mix of young and older. Take a look around the bar and appreciate the piece of Ireland that was brought to Cherry Hill. The artifacts, the furniture......... Â This area of Cherry Hill needed this kind of pub. I am looking forward to returning.
