Cozy little place in the Polo Shoppes. Â Really love the flat breads they serve. Owner shops 2x a day for fresh ingredients and it shows! My fav is the Tuscan. The waiters are great with the wine pairing. Service is prompt and attentive. Can get crowded as it is small, but out door tables are available as well.
Review Source:We came for the flatbreads - love the variety ! I had the Argentinean - the other two in our party choose the Sydney and the Genovese - all were delicious ! Service was excellent - friendly and efficient. Very nice decor - cozy atmosphere. Lots of choices on the menu - appetizers, salads, paninis, pastas and entrees - something for everyone. Nice wine & beer menu also. Definitely plan to come again.
Review Source:Service and food get 5 stars! Â Pricing here is higher than it should be, and for that, I'd like to dock them a half of a point, but can't give a 4.5. Â For the details --
Pam, our server, was the only person running the dining room. Â When we walked in, she told us that she was the only one working today and that she would do her best to be attentive, but asked us for patience. Â I LOVED how up front and honest she was, giving us an opportunity to leave if we were in a hurry. Â We weren't in a hurry, so we were fine to be patient, but honestly, she handled the place like she owned it! Â I mean, we never had to wait any longer than we would have expected if there was another person working with her. She was personable, friendly, attentive -- I can't say enough about how great she was!
Now for the food -- All tables receive pita chips and hummus. The pita chips are the super thin style, and the hummus was some sort of herb hummus. Â Both were great! Â Not sure if I was just extra hungry, but if I had been in private I would have licked the hummus bowl clean!
The Parisian flatbread was soooooooo good! Â The flatbread was made on the super thin bread, just like the pita, and this particular flatbread really rocked it! Â It was layered with caramelized onions, brie, pine nuts, and a grape here and there. The flatbread could actually be ordered as an appetizer if you've got 2-3 people who want to try it. Â Otherwise, it's plenty for a meal.
The Shrimp Po Boy says it's spicy, but if you're not into spicy food...seriously, don't worry. Â It was blackened shrimp, but not spicy at all. Â The Po Boy was not presented on traditional Po Boy French bread, but was instead presented nicely on a homemade panini bread with onions and peppers, and came with a side salad with onions, tomatoes, and lettuce in a vinaigrette.
We loved the vibe here. Â Pam was great, the food was great, but as I said, it was a bit overpriced. Â Be sure to look for a coupon though. Â They have coupons in area mailers, and also online if you pay by cash. It'll save you some dough. Our total bill for the two of us, after saving $7.50 with a coupon, was $36.00 including tip. Â That's pretty steep for two lunch entrees and an iced tea. If you want to splurge, eat here!
I went here for lunch to try one of their flat breads and was very satisfied.
The restaurant is very clean and nicely decorated. They even have the food network on the plasma televisions on the walls.
I ordered the Romano ($16) and it was HUGE. Seriously, this could easily be shared between two people or a great dinner, but was larger than necessary for lunch. It had about 20 meatballs (half sized) spread out with ricotta and mozzarella cheeses on a wonderful grilled flat bread.
This is a wonderful cafe for locals in the Boca Raton area and worth the drive if you have not been here.
I haven't eaten here yet, but I plan to. Â This is a cute wine bar that is close to my house, which is great because I can avoid going downtown, having to find parking, etc.
The wine selection is good, ended up splitting a bottle of Ruta 22 malbec. Â The atmopshere is nice and casual, and it's located far enough away from the Publix in this plaza so that it doesn't feel you're at a strip mall. Â The menu selections did look good, so I'll have to come back and try a few.
They server a hummus spread and crackers to start.. We ordered Bake Brie with Raspberries for an App. Â Then we had two Spinach Green Salads, one with Steak and Portobello Mushrooms added. Â Service is good and the food is always made fresh. Â I just wish they would stick to the cheese hummus instead of some of the weird types they make.
Review Source:We've been meaning to get here for a couple of years. This week, we finally made it to DD Flats, whose shopping plaza location may go unnoticed due to the number of surrounding stores and eateries. While its space is somewhat small in area (seating for about 30 guests), the overall dining experience is quite big.
First things first, is the menu. I love a lot of options and DD Flats has just that. There must be at least 60 different items ranging from appetizers to pastas, but the biggest section of the menu is the Flatbreads. There are about two dozen and each one sounds better than the next. The flatbreads, along with the rest of the dishes listed, are all gourmet and composed of lovely ingredients- fresh vegetables, fine cheeses, and a variety of proteins. It is quite evident in the cuisine that there is a high level of culinary expertise in the kitchen.
Chef David Himmel, who is also the owner along with his wife, Danielle (hence the "DD"), isn't the only one to give kudos to. It's actually a family affair- David's mother in law is the pastry chef in addition to assisting with other preparations, like creating a different flavor of hummus each day to serve with the complimentary bread. Our server was happy to provide us with this information and give us further insight about this unique establishment. One key element that won me over is that the dough for the crust is Chef David's own recipe and as a matter of fact, they bake all of their own breads on site. Another is their sauces, like the wasabi aioli accompanying the ahi tuna sliders, added were made to perfectly complete each bite. There is no detail of any dish that is lacking finesse, making me believe that there really isn't a poor choice when it comes to the DD Flats menu.
Chef David has done a fine job of taking his initial concept of developing a wine bar with a menu and turning it into a cozy restaurant that can be thoroughly enjoyed, even without the vino- take it from me, I was sipping on the refreshing, brewed Mango iced tea all night!  Next time, whether I am catching up with a girlfriend over lunch or doing dinner with a group, I hope to dive into a bottle  off of DD Flats' reasonable wine list, as well as save room for dessert (white chocolate croissant bread pudding-mmmm)!
Side note: We used a discount so that certainly helped with bring the price point to a more than fair value!
If I were rating strictly on the food quality, I'd give them 4 stars. Unfortunately, the atmosphere/location and price per plate just don't match. I have no problem paying $15-$20 per flatbread when I'm in an upscale restaurant. Unfortunately, the atmosphere in this restaurant lends itself more to a casual feel. It's located in a strip mall, and you "feel" like you're there strictly to eat dinner and leave, not to sit around having a relaxing meal with a glass of wine. The expensive prices therefore do not justify the atmosphere you're in.
I want to be sure to give credit where credit is due, and the food quality was very good. Both flatbreads we ordered were hearty and tasted great.
In the end, I'm disappointed to say that even though the food was yummy, I probably won't be going back because I'd rather spend my money in a restaurant that's atmosphere, food quality, and price equally contribute to a great meal.
DD Flats is definitely not a cheap lunch but the food is amazing.
Portobello FRIES! Huge slices of portobello mushrooms, in tempura batter, deep fried, and served with a horseradish dipping sauce. Oh... My.., Gawd!
Their flatbreads are an eclectic mix of thin crispy pizzas topped with anything from skirt steak and chimichurri to seared tuba and sesame wasabi glaze. Some of them cost as much as a pizza but one bite will tell you it's worth it.
We usually get 3 or 4 different ones and pass them around the table til everyone is full.
I've been going here for a couple of years but it seems noone else has ever heard of them because everyone I bring is a first timer.
Give it a shot. Just remember to stop by an ATM first, cash gets a discount.
