The atmosphere is nice and relaxing, and the beer selection is vast. Â The food is also always great when I go. Â However....... the length of time it took for our server to even greet us and take our drink orders was about....20 minutes!!! I understand they may have been short-staffed, but shame on the management of this place. Â The first 80 degree weather of 2013, and what ended up being a 3 hour night for drinks and food, should have been around 2. STAFF UP Deja! You have a beer garden and a huge indoor area..... get more staff.
Review Source:This place wasn't bad, it just was okay. Maybe it was the crowd being a tad older than me, or maybe it was just the food was only okay, or maybe I was just cranky... Who knows. Just didn't feel like being there. however, seemed to have a decent selection of single ladies for guys looking for them ( I was there on friday night) they were in the youngish range but not too young you feel guilty. Yeah, people seemed to be enjoying themselves. Laid back pretty much
Review Source:When I first moved to Oak Lawn I was all about this place. I loved the outdoor patio and the fact that I could easily walk right over. I think as time went on I just realized there are much better options in the area.
The beer selection is OK. They usually have a decent selection of seasonal drafts. The food is just not good though. I could even get over that at a bar, but they serve it on paper plates. I can't get over that. The service can be a little on the slow side too.
A friend was in town over Thanksgiving, and this is his watering hole of choice for when he's in town. Considering the experience I had when we were last here 2 years ago, I was less than enthused.
Still, he's the guest, he should pick something he likes.
I braced myself for mediocre, mass-produced beer and worse service.
What I found instead was a place that's making a coherent attempt to keep up with changing tastes in the beer-drinking public.
We got a tap menu with at least 15 different beers on tap, most of them local or regional, almost all of them craft. Revolution, Two Brothers, Bells, 3 Floyds and 5 Rabbit are just a few of the local/regional companies represented on the menu I saw. Big, big improvement from two years ago.
Service was good. Server regularly checked on us to see if we needed anything else.
Fliers on the wall advertised a holiday beer tasting event, which also featured local/regional brews. Again, big thumbs-up from me on this. As a rule, I like places that promote local craft beers.
I don't think I'd go out of my way to go here again, but I wouldn't have to be dragged back kicking and screaming, either. Draft list and service are big improvements from my last visit.
It's been around a long time, mundane. Â Pretty average, nothing exciting or terrible about it, just another southside joint. Â Outdoor Beer Garden is nice in summer, unusable in Winter. Â Parking is good. Â Food is good but overpriced for what you get. Â Drinks are just a little too high. Â Staff/servers are not overly friendly, just kind of robotic. Â A clean place, but when the crowds roll in around 7:30 on weekends, forget about being able to carry on a conversation with anyone you are there with, unless you like yelling all night. Â They'd be better off trying to be a cool, laid back, classy, Â quiet place, than just another Sports Bar. Â It doesn't have that true Sports Bar look inside, more like an unremodeled 80's Lounge with some Sports Do-Dads stuck up to try to change the decor. Â And, on closing, drink all night in there and think maybe you'll get one on the House? Â LOL.... Â Forget It ! Â Don't hold your breath..
Review Source:I have frequented this place for many years. I love their martinis (especially the Funky Monkeys). Â However, I was really disappointed at my last visit. Â We went inside to grab some food, which was okay. Â But the reason we went there was because we wanted to stay for cocktails and chat, being a nice night we wanted to sit outside as they have an enclosed, outdoor patio. However, their lack of enforcing the NO SMOKING POLICY ruined the night for me. Â There are signs on the tables, on the walls above tables, yet when we sat out there we were actually caught in a crossfire of secondhand smoke, because people were openly smoking on both sides of us. Being an enclosed area, the smoke lingers too. Â Waitresses passed them, and said nothing... one of the bartenders actually pulled up a chair for a few minutes with one of the smoking tables, so safe to assume they were friends of his... he said nothing. Â Well when signs are up and the places don't actually enforce the rules, I don't complain... I just get up and leave, because I can just choose to patronize a different location... the same way the folks smoking chose to pretend they didn't see or couldn't read the picture or words on the NO SMOKING signs right above their heads. Â Frankly, I don't feel I need the drama of making a scene and calling them out on it, because it's the bars responsibility to enforce the NO SMOKING LAW and if they don't, they are not a place I wish to patronize... so we left. Â I'm certain I can find another place with good martinis... just one without a side of CANCER.
Review Source:This is definitely a more livelier spot in Oak Lawn's nightlife. The decor's a bit more updated and playful than other bars in the area (ie. chalkboard menus to display specials and a little bit more swankier/modern branding), and the Top 40 music blared loudly on a Friday night.
There is a decent variety in the drink menu from microbrews on tap to seasonal fruity cocktails. And with typical bar food offerings, our group ordered the hyped homestyle baked wings, which were a savory complement to our drinks. Wings were meatier than most I've had and had a good crunch.
The major downside is that the service was extremely slow. We waited about 10 minutes until we ordered our first drinks and hadn't seen our server in a while after having our wings, so we ended up paying our tab at the bar.
Brace yourself for a long tale of disappointment and confusion.
Call me silly for expecting Deja Brew to brew something. Call me silly for expecting them to make their own food. Call me silly for thinking there is a difference between the words  add and substitute. Just don't call me a repeat customer at this flawed TGI Fridays.
Deja Brew has your standard mediocrity on tap: Miller lite, Summer Shandy, and Blue Moon. But they also have a draft list of mostly IPAs that vaguely prompts their product. The list doesn't mention the size of the glass or the price so be prepared to pay 7.00 bucks for a 10oz beer from Michigan. Our waitress, a 14 year veteran of the place, also with unheard of chipperness told my guest and I that most things on the menu come pre packaged and are simply heated, so they can't be altered. She wasn't kidding our appetizer looked like it came from you grocery's freezer. But on to the true horror of this tale.
I order the $8.00 Fiesta Salad which comes with beef, cheese, and some other faux Mexican things. Beneath this it say " add chicken 2.00." My waitress ask me if I want beef or chicken and I in turn asked if it is simply a swap she says yes. I order the chicken version. Now outside of the salad being inedible with hot, wilted lettuce, I get the bill to see the price is 10.00. I ask the waitress why it is 10 as opposed to the listed 8 and she says because I added chicken. I told her no I substituted chicken. To which she replied with a firmness enough to wound every teacher : " yeah, same thing." I try to explain substitute and adding are very different. I am not one to argue over two dollars, but  the difference was obvious. She continued to argue with me and then went to get the manger.
Enter the overly tan manger who tells me " she didn't write the menu, so there was nothing she could do" " She has been working here 5 years and I'm the only person to complain" and of course " add and substitute mean the same thing." I don't know if no one else cared to complain, noticed, or she just didn't care but it is absolutely your job to do something whether you wrote the menu or not. And for the record add and substitute/swap are very, very different. So much so in fact they are separate, non-related words. Â
Fearing I would soon need to pull up a dictionary, I left their poor understanding of words, and my untouched salad and retreated to the car. The re-heated food, poor drink selection and flagrant over charging are not worth your time. Go to a bar that has a kitchen not just a microwave.
I really like the martinis here (especially the Funky Munky), and the food is worth eating. Â They are overpriced though. Â I really enjoy the patio in the summer, and the overall atmosphere is nice. Â However the staff and service are mediocre, and never seems very well coordinated.
The last time we went there was for a Blackhawks Road Watch, and it was a huge mistake. Â To begin with, the space isn't big enough and they don't have enough tables for an event like that. Â We got there about 2 hours before the game started with the intention of having dinner and sticking around for the game. Â The place was already packed when we arrived, and there were no tables. Â We stood around completely unacknowledged for longer than acceptable. Â Finally a waitress came over and asked if we needed anything. Â When we told her we wanted a table to have dinner she basically told us we were going to have to stand around and try to grab a table before anyone else got to it. Â Okay...shortly thereafter another group came in and asked a different waitress for a table. Apparently we asked the wrong waitress because the next thing we know they're making us move from where we were standing and setting up a new high top table for the people who just walked in. Â WTF, yo?! Â We ended up walking out at that point and going elsewhere. Â We haven't been back since, but I imagine we will be back at some point.
Came here a little later than I normally do.... At 8pm. The music was definitely very loud. I had to yell to hold a conversation with my cousin. That was fun for four hours of chit chat and deep conversations.
I ordered the Gone Fishin' sandwich assuming, from what I read, that it was battered filet with Hellman's mayo. It was served to me like tuna salad. It was so gross. I hate tuna salad, but I love all kinds of fish.
I also shared chips and guacamole with my cousin. Where was the cilantro? Lime? And I tasted a lot of egg actually! Not ordering those two things again.
Still a great place though. Lots of parking available.
I thought this was a nice little after school hang out! Came in on a Friday afternoon and stayed for yummy drinks and a little bit of decent bar food, spent a reasonable amount of money, and had great service. I don't think you can't ask for much more.
Trying to keep it short and sweet; I had two big glasses of a cider they had on tap for a pretty low price (compared to whatever million dollar beverages everyone else was drinking). I think it was Crispin? I've never heard of it before, but it hit the spot after a long, long day. The food we ordered (mac n' cheese bites, what I could pick at of the nachos) was definitely greasy bar food. It was good for the occasion but not necessarily something I'm dreaming about. Service was very friendly! I'm sure I'll be back in the future!
I used to pass by here a lot, not really giving it much thought or thinking it was a coffee place by the name. I finally came here this past weekend and I thought it was nice atmosphere/crowd. It was super busy and loud but that's because it was a Saturday and there was a Hawks playoff game on. Tons of TVs, and even one on the outside patio. I was so glad they actually had Gumballhead, along with a few other Three Floyds beers, often a rarity. I was a little peeved that there was no drink menu with prices, so I just stuck to beer since it's typically cheap. It's a little pricey for the burbs. A Sam Adams draft was $5.50! That's a little much. I think I would come back just because it's a really nice bar and I'd like to try their food. Maybe they have drink specials during the week? Overall, it's a good place to meet up with friends or co-workers.
Review Source:First plus about Deja Brew is their location. Right on 95th with plenty of parking in back. You can walk if your local, or stop by if you've parked in the metra ramp.
Secondly, the drinks and food are consistent in their quality. I suggest the chocolate martini and nachos. Yum!
I've always had great service from the bartenders but some of the waitresses can be alittle off. But on average they are ok.
The place fills up pretty quickly especially if there is a sports game on.
In the summer, you really cant beat the beer garden!
So me just turning 21 and being new to the bar scene I was excited going into this place but not so happy coming out! Since I'm not a big fan of beer I ordered a martini and me just turning 21 and all I'd figure I'd spoil myself so price wasn't an issue. So I ordered a lemon drop martini I got it and it was awful!!!!!! I asked if I could get something else instead and the waitress was very rude and said no so I was stuck with it that was the worst 12 dollars I spent in my life!
I went back a few months later and the service was horrible all the girls that work there need an attitude check! This place will never get my business again I guarantee it!!!!
This place was pretty average, nothing stands out really. The food was like any other bar that serves food.
My co-workers and I came here pretty early, the place was empty at first, and as the night progressed it got busy. There are nights that live music is available.
Drinks were a bit pricey. It is a good place to meet with friends after work, or if your in the area, but I would not drive a distance for this place.
Objectively: This is a middling bar -- some televisions showing the games, lots of high-tops to hang out with friends, lively music playing, beer, food. Good location, parking in back. Pretty good standard situation.
Subjectively: Because of the name "Deja Brew", I thought this was going to be some microbrew or something. My wife and I popped in on a lark, but were HUGELY disappointed. But the disappointment was squarely based in our incorrect assumption of what the place would be. I was disappointed that my Moose Drool didn't get served with a glass (I should have asked, but didn't think I needed to), our dinners were very mediocre, the atmosphere was ridiculously loud.
Our server was awesome.
So, seriously, this bar is okay. If you want to hang out with friends and drink an MGD (I think they have that...) and share some nachos, Deja Brew will be just fine. You'll get what you want and have a fun time. Just don't expect to imbibe some cleverly named beer lovingly crafted by some kid named Aaron.
I really liked this place!! I didn't think the beer selection was anywhere near awesome.. but it was a fun place to hang out and watch the Hawks and Bulls games. Â The bartenders are super cool and the environment of people was pretty relaxed as well. Â It's definitely a place that I would come and have a beer and watch a game.. or hang with friends.. ya know, whatever. Â
There's also a patio outside for smokers or when the weather gets nice. Â I haven't been able to try the food yet.. but I'm sure I'll be back.
Met a friend from out of town and suggested this joint, since I knew where it was from 8 years ago. Â Had some beers and some food. Â My soup du jour (cheesy potato) came out in a styrofoam container. Â My wings were ok, but also given little styrofoam plates. Â Trendy to kill the earth more, I guess. Â If you are gonna have a kitchen, have plates to serve your food on, come on South Side. Â A sink should already be present, buy some plates/bowls. Â See you in 8 years, maybe.
Review Source:Deja Brew is very average. It has a full bar that doesn't water down their drinks. It has a surplus of televisions which make it nice for watching sports. And the service is pleasant. I just wished the food was...better. It's certainly not bad, but it's just not great. I happen to really like bar food, so I am not coming here dressed like the little millionaire guy from the Monopoly. It is definitely I place you will return to, you just won't go out of your way to do so.
Review Source:I have to agree with the other posters about the lousy service, usually 3 or 4 of the chicks stand in a group at the end of the bar and ignore customers. We usally just order 2 drinks at a time to cover the bartender downtime. That said, I still really like this place. The ambiance is great, especially around Christmas time, when the lights on the the trees across the street in the village grounds are lit up and pretty. Also the large windows overlooking 95th street almost make you feel like you are sitting outside. Good jukebox that just plays non-stop. Good salsa & chips for a bar.
Review Source:I came here solo one night a few months ago (don't judge me, my wife had our daughter at a kids party) and had a below average Ruben. The beers and the service were good but I was not wowed by the food. The best part was that I was sitting at the bar, casually watching football and some college kids came in asking to change the channel. The bartender sternly told them, "Noah's watching football". I don't remember telling her my name but it was appreciated.
I talked my wife into stopping in after our dinner with friend's the other night so we could have a couple drinks together. The place was empty and the bartender, Ziggy, treated us like kings. We had a nice talk about the demise of the South Side Irish Parade. The staff here has always impressed me with their service. They have a great beer selection and pour a strong cocktail. Â We'll be back to give their food another chance and sit in the courtyard in the summer. Â Cheers to Ziggy!
Like the other posters I agree that this place has gone downhill. Â The prices of the drinks are on the expensive side. Â Not super expensive, Â but there are better options out there. Â Luckily the food is still pretty good here. Â The chicken on foccacia bread is really good. Â Its called the deja brew melt or somehting like that. Â The food is a bit pricey too but its been good quality.
Review Source:Wow, this place has really gone into the dumps. Â I remember a time, a happier time, when Deja was an awesome place to go to hang out with the buddies and catch a game. Â I've gone to this bar hundreds of times over the years, but never again. Â It started a little over a year ago, when the new owners took over. Â At first I was hopeful that things would stay the same, or at least improve for the better....but finally now, after giving the place several attempts, I've given up. Â The food is still pretty good for bar food, but drinks are way overpriced for the area. Â Also, they added guacamole to the menu, though the portion is so tiny that I wondered if they used more than half of an avacado. Â Even still, what finally did me in was the new wait staff that they added.
My Mother and I went in one Sunday for the Bears game last October...with about four other tables taken, the joint was pretty empty. Ten minutes after we sat, the waitress continued to ignore us to serve other customers. Â No greeting, no service, nothing. Â After another ten minutes, we walked out and went next door to the Goal post. Â Since then, I've experienced more terrible service, with every new server that they hired seemingly worse than the previous one. Â I can relate to the other poster on here about the snotty bartender. Â Sadly, that kind of treatment was very common in the past year.
This is one of the better options when looking for happy hour after work in the south suburbs. Â It's not too crowded around that time, but tends to fill up the later it gets. Â It's a little fancier than your usual pub, complete with a nice beer garden. Â The food and drink selection are decent, the service is OK.
Deja Brew is my pick for a nice after-work stress-relieving frosty bevvie.
This is a great place to hang out with friends. For a bar, it has a touch of class to it. Â It's usually packed though. They have an outdoor beer garden, which is really nice and a fairly large space indoors, despite the small storefront on 95th street. It's reasonably priced, with a pretty good selection of drinks and food. The last time I came here was around Christmas time. We sat at one of the tables in the front windows, which was nice because it was bit snowy outside and you could see all the white Christmas lights from the library and village buildings.
Review Source:A very nice place to stop for a drink after work, or to catch a game. Â They have a pretty extensive martini menu, and feature a beer of the month special. Â The food there is very good for being a bar; the prime rib special is outstanding. Â The homemade salsa they have is out of this world (but for some reason, the chips they serve it with don't do the salsa any justice.)
