We've been to lots of karaoke joints across the past 15 years and we must say:
This is THE place to go for karaoke, ANY night of the week. Prices are average and service is quick. Introduce yourself to the owner, Louie, at the end of the bar. He's the slender, nice Greek guy standing right below the TV in the corner. If you're a nice patron, he's a great friendly owner. But if you're a drunken idiot, he's not going to let you stay very long (which we appreciate)!
The karaoke book has almost everything, and the bartender and DJ help get things going every night. It's amazing that these two ladies aren't on American Idol yet. But that's ok, cuz the Nail wouldn't be the same without them! The "regulars" are some of the nicest, most genuine people you could ever meet, and everyone is so polite no matter what your karaoke ability is. Their singing abilities run the gamut and nobody is pretentious. So go for it and submit a request. Friday and Saturday nights can often get crowded, so get there at 9pm if you want some quick rotations in the lineup for some practice.
Sure, it looks like a dive on the outside AND the inside, but that is part of the charm. I mean... c'mon, the name of the joint is the RUSTY NAIL!! But the Nail is what any dive bar SHOULD aspire to be: cozy, genuine, friendly, affordable and safe.
I went back here last night (and will probably head back again this evening) and I wanted to update my review. They still have karaoke 7 days a week and it still has that neighborhood dive bar feel I love. The bartender was the same young red head from last time only this time she was in a better mood. She seemed pleasant and friendly to everyone and even filled up my club soda for me like my favorite bartenders back home do.
I wish they had a non-alcoholic beer for assholes like me who are sober at a bar but I guess club soda is better for my waistline anyway... the beer selection in general is pretty bad (bud, miller, coors) but the prices are dirt cheap, the people I've met are awesome, and you just can't beat karaoke 7 nights a week! Nothing ever quite compares to my favorite dive back home but this is a great place and will be our regular spot whenever we're in town.
This place is what I call a whole in the wall. Â To me these kinds of places can either go one of two ways, bad or great. For me it's great. Â Now I can't say it's the greatest but I can say I take all my out of town friends here because it's always a good time. Â They will check IDs as soon as you walk in. Â At first you may be like what the heck have I gotten myself into and then slowly the party gets started. Â It's never really crowned which makes for a nice privet party with out the cost. Â The bartender is a wonderful singer which I really enjoy and so is the DJ. Â I wish they had more music selections but I still love going. Â I say try it out you just might love it like we do. Â
Also the owner is always there sitting at the end of the bar usually with a shot and a water back. Â He's a nice guy say hi!
