My favorite bar in the South Bay. Â Not only are the bartenders friendly and awesome (Jason in particular) but they serve up some pretty delicious drinks. Â Try the Oatmeal Cookie shot or the Chocolate Cake shot, mmm.
It's kind of an older crowd, but for a dive bar that opens at 6am and has police badges plastered all over the walls, what would you expect? Â Bring some friends and do karaoke or hit the jukebox -- both are great options. Â This is a friendly, fun neighborhood spot that deserves a little more recognition.
One of the oldest dive bars in Chula Vista and they're open at 6am. Â
Jason our bartender was nice. Â Not sure what nights they have Karaoke but I know on Thursday's they have Karaoke starting at 9pm. Â Really dark and rustic feeling. Â (I love it!)
Great HH prices on beers and the hard liquor was a little too weak for me. Â Considering though I drink CRWON Royal straight up.
Everything has been said and young people wouldn't enjoy it but I did! A nice quiet bar is definitely okay with me. The usual bar scene is loud and there's too much going on but sometimes it's nice to take a sip in silence and chillax. You won't be the center of attention here. The bartender wasn't friendly but why should she be when she only has 3 customers to tend to? Literally. The drinks were great and I left feeling good. Really good! Glad I checked it out.
Review Source:I know the owner, but it doesn't mean I have to give a good review right? The place is ancient, very dark, terrible bathrooms, bad parking, and it is in downtown Chula Vista (voted one of the most boring towns in the US).
Wait staff was nice, but I think this place is for a generation that is dying off.
I'm big into Karaoke. Â The KJ is great. Â Really energetic, and fairly gets you in the queue. Â Just too many people that night for me. Â Only sang once in two hours, but met some great people while there.
The crowd was around my age (50) and really mellow, energetic, fun, quiet, all at the same time. Â People even got up and danced.
Song book was adequate. Â No one has "Red Light" by Jonny Lang. Â And strangly I can never find "Gonna be Startin Somethin" by M Jackson.
Why do I love Docks?
Perhaps because it's Chula Vista's oldest bar or maybe because I was drinking next to a senior citizen with an oxygen tank. Or wait, no but because the senior citizens live down the street and take over karaoke or maybe because there's a life size doll complete with a 80's blonde hairstyle leaning against the mirror walls... yes mirror walls.
All of my reviews are of course relative, since I cannot rate all bars on the same level.
If it's a dive bar you want, then Dock's is just what you're looking for. Â Beware, this is the older crowd, and when I say older, keep in mind that I'm in my late 30's and calling them "older". Â I find this crowd very chill and cool to drink with. You also will not get into a fight in this place, as it is common that off duty officers choose this site to buy their refreshments. Â
It's dark, it's retro - with the red leather booths and dim lighting. Â This is probably because it's THE oldest bar in Chula Vista, complete with historical proof outside the joint.
One last thing to keep in mind. Â This is a regular karaoke spot, with the tunes going down about 3 times a week. Â Some of the regulars a damn good, but no one will look down upon you for contributing. Â I have never had any problems at this bar, so if it's a chill, peaceful drink you seek, head to downtown Chula Vista and come into Dock's.
My fave Chula Vista dive bar.
For those of us who know and love Chula Vista, Dock's is a really big part of it. I love that they open at 6am, in case you ever feel like you are in Vegas and want to go straight to a bar when you wake up. Their karaoke books are super old school, and could use and update, but I always manage to find something to sing after I have put down a couple whiskey&diets.
Typically an older crowd than most bars I frequent, I find it super comforting the second I walk in the door. You don't have to get all dressed up for Dock's to love you, they like you just as you are.
The darkest bar this side of echo park. I have only been in one bar that was darker then this place. You will definitely have to use your cell phone, a lighter, or one of their table lamps to read anything. It is awesome. Light deprivation, drinking, and playing the spot game...just like Vegas. Especially when you walk out and it is blazing hot with the summer sun that just blinds you as you realize it is 2pm and you are tanked from the cheap drinks. The reason for 3 vs 5 stars? It's a cop bar and I'm not sayin i am a "cop"tite, just sayin I would rather not drink with them. The other bummer is that it is in downtown chula and I dont live close enough to warrant visitation anymore. I miss this bar....Oh. The karaoke nights are great. everything is great with this place...four stars!
Review Source:Docks is the spot! My friends and I are typically the youngest patrons there, but this makes for a great, low-key place to get together for some drinks, pool, or karaoke. Â The drinks are good and affordable. Â It's hard to find a solid bar in Chula, but this place has been around forever and for good reason.
Have a delicious bourbon n coke and say hey to the mannequin for me.
This is a little nifty dive bar in the center of downtown Chula Vista. Plenty of karaoke on hand if you like to sing. A pool table in the back if you'd rather not. They had a decent selection of beer on tap. Ended up here after a trip to La Bellas with some co-workers. Had a good time.
Review Source:If you can't sing you should still try and if you're still too scared, watching others belt out oldies is much more entertaining than chain smoking outside of some bar in north park trying to look cool. The drinks are mostly cheap but some of the shots are 6 bucks or more. A lot of real characters in here and some cougars too.
Review Source:Dock's is the only cool bar in downtown Chula Vista. Really, there is no other reason to go there unless  "Fuddruckers" is how you roll. If so, then don't go into Dock's, you'll hate it.
However, for the the drinker driving through the area that has the shakes, or just needs one more cold one to survive the day, then Dock's was made for you! Good prices on most beer and well drinks; however if you call a shot of something decent it might run you between 7 and 10 bucks. But let's face it, you don't go to Dock's to drink Delirium Tremens or a small batch whiskey; you go to drink a lousy beer or a garden-variety 7&7. Â
Daytime Dock's: old timers, ex-cops and ex-military slowly flow in and out. Many still dress in fashions from earlier times, or in a mix-match of Hawaii shirts & shorts with sandals and white tube socks.
Friday night Dock's: There is an old folks' home in the area. I think that after 8 pm the staff unlock the doors and let the old timers out. You know where they all go? That's right, to SAV-ONs, but then they go to Dock's. Karaoke is in full effect, and they take it very seriously. Check out the Karaoke DJ! He is worth a trip to Dock's in and of itself: 70-something, rug, bling, and an eye for the ladies. He must get so much action... I'm not even kidding. Fun and friendly crowd.
In an attempt to satisfy a thirst for alcoholic beverages we (my cousin, some friends and myself) decided to go to Docks. Â The selling point for my cousin was the fact Docks had karaoke. Â However stereotypical, she is Asian and as much as I hate to admit it the same applies to me especially in an inebriated state. Â This bar also had a pool table which is a nice alternative to singing.
Most of the patrons were considerably older which made us feel like fish out of water and the bar was rather small. Â The beers were cheap but the shots were expensive.
CHEAP DRINKS for example $5 for a Midori Sour and $7 for a Grey Goose Collins. We sang LOTS of Karaoke! We even got FREE drinks from the bartender and some strange OLDER men. Oh the joy of being young :) We even got in good with the Karaoke DJ he hugged us good-bye. Gotta go back. REALLY SOON! My friends had never been and they had a blast. Check it out if you're ever in Chula Vista!
Review Source:Been there a couple of times with a buddy of mine. Â The pool table was still a quarter. Â The beers were cheap for nowadays. Â The cocktails were not well alcohol flavored.
Quarter pool table.
Trannies.
Cops (off duty and out of uniform)
weak cocktails
haven't been there on an entertainment evening.
C'est la vie
Great place for Karaoke - good music selection, able KJ, and very supportive and interested crowd. Â If you flub a song the crowd will help out and if you do well, you just might bring the house down. There is no stage so you can either wander around with the mic or stay at your table. Â
The wait staff is sweet but not all together with it and the place only accepts cash. Â There is, however, a WaMu fairly close by. Â Drinks are a little weak but are on the cheap side. Â
Bonus: downtown Chula Vista is A-Dor-Able! Â There are old-timey neon signs everywhere, tree-lined streets and white Christmas lights. Â Well worth the drive to South County.
