When your night goes completely haywire, Korean taco truck is like a shining beacon in the blackness. Â I'm sure Dokkaebi hits the spot on a normal day as well, but sometimes you just need a truck of food to roll up to the bar where you're already drowning your sorrows and say "here are tacos." Â The owner is super nice as well, and listened to our griping without punching us.
I tried the beef bulgogi taco, my companion the tofu, and our pals got the combo. Â The meat on both pork and beef (I stole some pork pieces) was well seasoned and delicious, and though the tacos aren't the cheapest ever, they are bigger than the average taco and packed pretty full. Â My companion was a little disappointed that they were out of kimchidillas ,but he made up for it by eating all of the kimchi sides on the planet. Â His breath was just lovely. Â
I'll keep an eye out for these guys.
WOW, i'm a huge fan...walked 5 blocks to try out these tacos for lunch, just finished them and i'm so happy right now it's ridiculous. Â I'd walk a mile to get to these tacos for lunch again! Â They are packed full of delicious meat so while $3.50 may seem a tad steep for a taco, it's not because you will be full after eating 2 and this is no ordinary "taco." Â $7 for a great lunch in the Loop is a deal to me!
Review Source:The guy who runs the truck is very nice and the spicy pork taco was good, but it suffers from the standard Chicago issue of not being able to cook on the truck and at $3.50 per taco the price is a bit high if you ask me. Â Certainly I have high standards with Korean Twist in Portland and Taceaux Loceaux in New Orleans being my favorite taco trucks in the country, but Dokkaebi Tacos just wasn't nearly as exciting.
Would I go back again? Â Yes. Â Did it blow me away? Â No.
Come on Chicago, quit being idiotic on your food truck regulations and let's see if this town can crank out some really great street food...
