When your night goes completely haywire, Korean taco truck is like a shining beacon in the blackness. Â I'm sure Dokkaebi hits the spot on a normal day as well, but sometimes you just need a truck of food to roll up to the bar where you're already drowning your sorrows and say "here are tacos." Â The owner is super nice as well, and listened to our griping without punching us.
I tried the beef bulgogi taco, my companion the tofu, and our pals got the combo. Â The meat on both pork and beef (I stole some pork pieces) was well seasoned and delicious, and though the tacos aren't the cheapest ever, they are bigger than the average taco and packed pretty full. Â My companion was a little disappointed that they were out of kimchidillas ,but he made up for it by eating all of the kimchi sides on the planet. Â His breath was just lovely. Â
I'll keep an eye out for these guys.
WOW, i'm a huge fan...walked 5 blocks to try out these tacos for lunch, just finished them and i'm so happy right now it's ridiculous. Â I'd walk a mile to get to these tacos for lunch again! Â They are packed full of delicious meat so while $3.50 may seem a tad steep for a taco, it's not because you will be full after eating 2 and this is no ordinary "taco." Â $7 for a great lunch in the Loop is a deal to me!
Review Source:The guy who runs the truck is very nice and the spicy pork taco was good, but it suffers from the standard Chicago issue of not being able to cook on the truck and at $3.50 per taco the price is a bit high if you ask me. Â Certainly I have high standards with Korean Twist in Portland and Taceaux Loceaux in New Orleans being my favorite taco trucks in the country, but Dokkaebi Tacos just wasn't nearly as exciting.
Would I go back again? Â Yes. Â Did it blow me away? Â No.
Come on Chicago, quit being idiotic on your food truck regulations and let's see if this town can crank out some really great street food...
Dokkaebi Tacos is the perfect example of a hidden gem. Â Good Korean food served on a taco! Â It's clean, fresh, and the owner is a great guy. Â What else is there to say? Â I highly recommend giving this a try.
If you follow him on twitter, @DokkaebiTacos, you can find out where he'll be so you can go grab your bulgogi tacos! Â Also, you can hire him out for private events.
Ask and you shall receive.
Leave it to twitter to bring the best trucks around right to your doorstep...or at least close enough for a lunch treat! When I got the RT that they'd be near my office I couldn't help but spread the news as fast as I could  and that big green truck shined like a ray of light among the chain restaurants of Streeterville.
It was too tempting not to try everything they had to offer:
Taco Combo with one beef and one pork taco, with kimchi side and threw in a kimchi-dilla (a quesadilla with kimchi loaded inside) couldn't be avoided.
The beef and pork were well seasoned, although aside from texture a bit hard to distinguish different tastes between the two seasoning/spice wise(maybe they are the spiced the same, if so I'd love to see spice variations for one of em to give it a twist!), but both were still flavorful, juicy and well balanced with sauce and toppings.
Kimchi was everything I hoped it could be, but in a smaller cup...but packed a flavorful punch and was a great addition to the tacos!
The kimchi-dilla was another dimension of flavor. You'd think just your standard quesadilla with some perfectly sour-spiced cabbage but you'd only be half right. The way the flavors of the kimchi melted through the cheese and blended so perfectly together made this treat a group favorite.
Can't wait for their next stop, and to see where they take their cuisine following the ordinance change ups!
This truck is new to the food truck scene, but who can really say "no" to Korean tacos and quesadillas? My friend DL clued me in on Dokkaebi Tacos-- and within an hour of telling my husband about it, we were standing in line outside of this bright green truck on a hot afternoon. It was their third day in business, so by the time we got to the window (which was less than an hour after they first started serving), all the tacos had been sold out and only a few kimchidillas were left. They were delicious, but I felt they were a tad bit on the pricey side for cheese and kimchi. Still, I'm definitely looking forward to another opportunity to check out their tacos. I wish I could give them 3.5 stars for now, but I'll have to settle with 3 until I taste their other offerings. Still, I'm so glad there's a Korean food truck in the city despite the difficulty our food truckers are having. I support you, Mr. Dokkaebi man!
