Dome Bar at the Camino Real El Paso

There was plenty of seating around the bar and we able to quickly put in our order. They need more people to accommodate and serve their order quickly.

Don't waste your time or money!

Stopped by for a drinks and appetizers on the way to Wicked.  So glad I came early, because the service was soooo slow!  My wife wanted to stop by for dinner at the dome restaurant, but after standing at the host desk for 5 minutes and no one showed up to seat us we gave up and went to the bar.  

There was plenty of seating around the bar and we able to quickly put in our order, but that was the only thing that was quick.  After taking our drink order, the bartender kinda wandered aimlessly around for a while.  We only ordered a beer and a glass of wine. Should have been very straight forward, not rocket science or alchemy involved.  After 5 minutes or so, he comes back to us and asks us what we ordered again?  What?  Really? So, he wanders around some more, and comes back with a glass of wine for my wife.... but where is my beer?  Doesn't say a word, drops off her drink and walks away.  So on his next pass, I ask where is the beer and he says that he has to get it from the back and walks away again...not to the back.  It literally took 15 minutes just to get a beer!

We had ordered food at about the same time as our drinks and let the servers know that we were in a hurry because we were going to the theatre.  After the drinks took so long, we were really concerned that the food was going to an issue.  They checked on it and said that the kitchen was really backed up because the restaurant was so busy.  It wasn't!  There were like 3 tables of 2-4 people in there when we didn't get seated.

Anyways, it took 45 minutes to get an order of fish tacos and sea bass. Fish tacos were ok. Nothing to write home about, the sea bass on the other hand was horrible! It was dry and smothered with some sort of mushy tomato concoction.  Sea bass is usually most and tasty on it own requiring little beyond salt, pepper and a little lime, but these guys managed to ruin it.  If we were not in such a hurry and my wife not averse to making a scene, I would have sent it back and asked them to sample it themselves.

This place could be happening, it is a cool lounge with lots of seating where you can bring a big group of friends to hang out, but the service and food is terrible.  

Epic fail!

We stopped in for a drink one hot afternoon . I had a mojito, which was very good.  The bartender was knowledgeable about the history of the building. He was entertaining, but veryyyyy sloooowwww.  The dome is definitely worth a look. I would say once upon a time it was a very impressive place, but now it's shabby & run down.  (tattered upholstery on bar stools.) , overall I'd have to say I'm glad I got to see it, ( it is Tiffany after all ) but if NOT for that it's just another place that used to be wonderful. Wish I could have seen it then.  I wouldn't say don't go, I'd say go once for a drink & nachos maybe.( they were good also), just don't be in a hurry or look too closely.
