My favorite authentic Mexican restaurant in the area.  Try the cochintas pibil.  Delicious.

Avoid all the chains in this exit and go to Don Beto's! Tasty, cheap and authentic Mexican food! I pulled into the Drive-Thru wondering if I was going to regret eating the food later, but put all your judgments aside!

The meals come with a heaping portion of fresh salsa and chips. The burrito was good, but my favorite was the Sopes- I got the Al Pastor. Although the meat was a bit fattier than I would've liked, it was very well seasoned. The arepa was moist and delicious.

I will make it a point to stop back on my way back to the Northeast!

Good Mexican, near an outlet mall, off an Interstate, in NC? In an old Pizza Hut?

    Really?

Yep!  A family has squared off the windows, and brightened up the interior. A lot.... (Pizza Hut Corporate should take note of how you can modernize an interior inexpensively.)

Confession here. We're doing the I-95 to FL back and forth thing. Like many travelers, it took longer to pack the Wagon Queen Family Truckster than expected. We knew we'd get home late, so we decided to look for a NICE, non fast food place to break up the trip.So between rounds of Slug Bug, we scanned those blue I95 signs.  My Mexican Food stomach was yelling at me (in Spanish, I might add), and we literally stumbled into Don Beto's driveway, to let the dog out, and check Yelp for a good place nearby. Lo and Behold, we were already here. Honestly.   Kismet???? Gotta be.

We chose this off ramp figuring there'd be a veritable panoply of culinary choices. Not really......  Most all were fast food chains. But, there at least was a large number of them, due to the close proximity to a huge outlet mall just south.

Anyway. I ordered the El Mega Grande Deluxe Super Double Throwdown Monster Combo, just to try as much as I could at one seating.  I can be pretty picky at Mexican places, and this was surprisingly quite good.  For example, my shredded pork item was loaded- loaded! With pork. Cool!  The only small letdown was the seasoning in the beef taco meat. Not what I expected- maybe a family recipe; I'd prefer something more like what I've had before to be honest.

We tried a small order of Guacamole. Good stuff.

The enchilada sauce, something hard to get right, good! (For those that don't know, that's labor intensive, and the taste varies a lot).

The big test for me, surprisingly, is the refried beans. These taste great. Yes,  I'd purée them a lot less, but the taste was perfect.

Two other suprises. They also have a drive through! And, our table service was really, really fast.

Kudos all around to the Don Beto's crew! We'll see you next roadtrip, I guarantee!  If you all put in outdoor seating, we can have our dog join us!
