We stopped in here last Saturday because it was in the same strip mall as Elly's Pancake House, where we had breakfast.
It is a typical small storefront deli packed with lots of imported canned goods from Poland, and a deli counter with cheeses, cold cuts and premade hot meals. I picked up some cabbage rolls, roasted potatoes and a few other items. Everything we tried was good, but nothing I would drive all the way back out there for.
Service was fine, if not overly friendly. We probably won't be back, but if you live in the area, it's not a bad stop.
On my culinary adventures today I decided to stop in Donna's Deli to check out what she had to offer since I had heard decent things circulating around the office.
I was not impressed.
Donna's Deli is just that - a deli. I suppose I had expected a restaurant based on the chit chat around the office. There are two tiny tables that you can eat at, but again - it's a deli, and seats a whopping 4 people. The deli itself is stocked with tons of deli meats and cheeses as well as both packaged and fresh Polish foods (written in Polish). For someone who doesn't know one word of Polish, can't read it, and is unfamiliar with a variety of cuisine, it felt like I was in a foreign country. Which would have been fabulous if the woman behind the counter was helpful - but she wasn't. ((Perhaps there was a language barrier?? I don't know...))
In terms of the hot foods that are prepared for lunchtime, it's slim pickins. And most of it meat. I asked what the woman had that was vegetarian and she looked at me like I had 3 heads. She showed me potato dumplings, potato pancakes, potato pierogi, and cabbage. Ummm...I was hoping to avoid a gut bomb and a carb coma at lunch. The food itself looked delicious, but given nothing was overly appealing I thanked her and went on my way.
Perhaps I'll head back to Donna's Deli in the future when a carb coma is calling my name, I get more saavy on Polish cuisine, or find myself back in the world of carnivores. Until then, I'll pass.
