If you like questionable frozen drinks served in styrofoam cups at low prices, then by God, this is the place for you. Â Don't worry about getting out of your car, just drive right up, lazy. Â
The "Margarita" is bright green. Â Why? Â Oh, you don't want to know. Â The same reason you don't wanna know why the "Octane" is orange, yet contains no orange juice. Â Yep, it's one of those mysteries of the universe that is best left unexplored.
Drive Side and I have a very long history.
This is the place I would go nearly every weekend of my youth. There was something special about being able to get your date a $5 large 190 Octane daiquiri before heading to the laser light show in the east. Looking back I can't help but think that even then, I was one classy dude.
Fast forward to 2012, and it had been years since I had even considered drinking a daiquiri. A friend had one at Mardi Gras and it brought back all those great old memories. I knew that I had to have one.
A couple of months ago I happened to be on the westbank and remembered my desire to relive m youth. I pulled in to the drive though and it all came back to me. I ordered a medium 190 Octane and as soon as I took the first sip, I was transported back to 1993, kind of. In reality, I immediately had brain freeze.
Besides the great memories of my youth, Drive Side offers fairly potent frozen drinks for very reasonable prices. In 1993 a large was only $5. Today it is somewhere around $6. You can't beat that price. I do wonder how long a drive thru liquor place can stay open with the open container laws on the books, but they are careful not to put the straw inn your cup. The second you do, you have violated the law so you may want to wait till you get where you're going to drink it.
