My mom, sister and I stumbled across this place and the decent prices and menu drew us inside for dinner. Â Unfortunately, we had some of the worst service I've ever experienced in a restaurant. Â It pains me to write this review because I really try to always say at least something positive in my reviews (and generally, they're all positive because I'm pretty easy to please), but I still cannot believe the treatment we received here.
Our server was an older woman and things started to go bad when I asked her for a list of draft beers. Â The selection didn't interest me, so I asked her if they had a list of bottles and she basically told me I could go up to the bar to look for myself. Â So, I went up to the bar, looked over the selection and went back to my table. Â When she didn't come back over after upwards of ten minutes (while walking past us over and over again and refusing to make eye contact with us), I finally went back to the bar and ordered my beer there.
After this, she finally came back to take our order. Â She was pleasant enough to my mom and sister, but did not look in my direction at all when she took my order. Â Once she brought our food our to us (which was okay), she never came back to our table again. Â Seriously - NOT ONCE. Â She never checked on us, asked us how the food was or if we needed anything else...NOTHING.
Finally, when we were all done eating, she came back over to our table, put the check down on our table and walked away without a word. Â Meanwhile, she was bustling about between all the other tables in the place, talking and actually looking at the other people who were there. Â Since she never came back to our table after dropping off the bill, I finally went to the bar to pay. Â And for the first and only time in my life, I left a tip (far) below 20%.
I still cannot figure out what I did to upset this woman so much...could my distaste for the beers they offered on tap (which seriously sucked, by the way) have been that off-putting to her? Â I'll never know...but I do know that if I ever find myself in Hilton Head again, I will NEVER return to this place.
My husband and I came down to Hilton Head from Raleigh on a whim, and though the place was beautiful, we were afraid we weren't going to find a good old fashioned pub. Â As we're walking around in search of a good beer and burger, we saw this place - Motorcycle out front AND inside, and knew we found our place. Â The bartender Steve was awesome, the food was excellent, better than I'd have expected, and the crowd was a great time. Â We ended up spending both nights there and would go back in a second.
Review Source:We were looking for a great sandwich shop on the island and after reading Yelp reviews, decided to try this place. I had the signature Earle sandwich with roast beef, swiss and mushrooms. It did not disappoint at all. Loved it! Great cole slaw too! My boyfriend had a loaded burger and fries that he raved about.
Pretty basic pub fare with attentive service. You need to be craving a sandwich or burger if you go here. Don't think this is a salad type of place. We will go back on our next trip for sure!
p.s. lots of boutiques right around the corner for the ladies who love to shop!!
We had just gotten into Hilton Head for the weekend and were looking for a quick bite to eat for lunch. Â That's when I spotted the Earle of Sandwich Pub in the Coligny Plaza near the beach. Â
The restaurant reminded me of an old pub with its dark wood tones, prominent bar, and casual, relaxed atmosphere. Â It was pretty slow and we quickly seated ourselves in a booth in the tiny dining room. Â
I ordered the corned beef sandwich and fries. Â The sandwich was pretty full of meat (and served hot), and the fries were very thin (think thinner than McDonald's fries) but hot and fresh. Â Our server was very friendly. After delivering the food, she asked me if I preferred Grey Poupon mustard over the regular yellow mustard that was available at the table. Â Sure, why not? Â I like to be fancy. Â She quickly brought me a bottle. Â
The food was all fresh, hot, and delicious. Â My only disappointment would be that the sandwich didn't come with anything besides meat and toasted bread. Â Then again, Hilton Head isn't known for fancy or out-of-the-ordinary cuisine. Â And pricing was a little steep ($9 for a simple sandwich and fries). Â
All in all, though, Earle of Sandwich Pub was a nice little hole in the wall find.
We were in town for a tennis tournament and had some free time to explore the island. We stopped at the Coiigny Plaza and browsed through the shops then stopped at the Earle of Sandwich pub for some lunch.
My son ordered the house speciality- the Earle Sandwich and I ordered the crab cake platter. The sandwich was stuffed to overflowing and hot and tasty. The crab cakes were perfectly seasoned and just the right size.
We were there during the off season and while the pub was slow, the service was right on the money. The server was pleasant and helpful and other guests seemed to be enjoying themselves as well.
I got the Earle Sandwich, which I thought was pretty good. Â It was pretty big and it's served warm. Â It had onions and mushrooms on it, which in my opinion makes everything tastier. Â The service was great! Â The only bad thing is, they didn't have a chef from 3-5pm, so we got there about 45 minutes before 5pm and we couldn't order! Â But it was worth the wait. Â I also ordered a Strawberry Daquiri, which I highly recommend!!!!! Â It was soooo good especially after a hot day at the beach!!! Â Be careful though, it's so tasty it makes it dangerous and all the alcohol will hit you before you know it. Â The drink made the meal!
