I've been to their Taproom at least a dozen times and each time it's always been super chill. They have a nice selection of guest beers to help accompany their own beers that are brewed in the back room. You can order food from this side of the building and it's brought to you from across the street, the foods usually always been really good and I've yet to order anything that I didn't like. The beers are decently priced and so is their food, if you're ever in downtown Pittsburgh it's def. worth a stop.
I have noticed however that their Concord brewery is always more lively than this one, but I think that's just because of the location of each of them.
I wrote a review of this place awhile back, after a Roy Rogers concert, and my opinion of EJ Phair is even greater than it was back then. What a great place and SO nice to be able to stay on my own side of the hill to hear great music. Last night it was Tom Rigney and his band, Flambeaux, Wow!! The crowd was small ( boo to you guys for not being here) but Tom's performance was fantastic. There venue is great and you all are missing a bet by not coming out. Support our locals music providers!
Review Source:Downtown Pittsburg's improving reputation will be enhanced even more by the new EJ Phair Brewery Taproom at 300 Cumberland (at the corner of 3rd St., right across the street from the EJ Phair Liberty Alehouse). The location serves as the company's brewery, and the long wait for completion was worth it. The Taproom will become one of East Contra Costa County's hot spots. The Taproom is set up nicely for bands with good lighting and a high-quality sound system as well as better acoustics than the Liberty Alehouse. Tied in with Jim and Kathy Ocean's Community Concerts, the Taproom is presenting an interesting mix of bands at its Live On Tap concert series providing Pittsburg and East County with live entertainment on Saturday nights. The Taproom also hosts 'Open Mic' Â and Comedy Nights and partners with the Pittsburg Entertainment & Arts Hall of Fame for a series of Sunday afternoon jam sessions on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month. Live On Tap has only been going for a couple weeks but is already growing in popularity thanks to word-of-mouth reviews. (The Tommy Castro Show on June 16 is already sold out.) The Taproom offers no food, but provides the full variety of EJ Phair beers as well as wine. And those attending shows get a 10 percent discount on food across the street at the Liberty Alehouse. (The Taproom is also only one block away from Pittsburg's popular New Mecca Cafe.) Â There is an intimacy to the venue with comfortable seating and a small area for dancing. Best advice: go early for best seating. And enjoy the shows!
