Good service, chips and salsa were good, but the food seemed on the bland side. I had mixed fajitas, which seemed like they had little to no taste. The food seemed somewhat "Americanized" and not very authentic. I would put it on par with a Chili's or other "TexMex" type restaurant. They did seem to have a very wide selection of tequila and mixed drinks.
Review Source:This is a great place with outstanding food, service, and ambiance. Highly recommend!
Our visit began with a warm welcome from the female bartender. We were quickly seated and our drink orders were taken immediately. Our waitress was fast and attentive and recommended several appetizers. The shrimp tacos are awesome, as is the chile colorado. I also love the tamales. Taco Tuesdays are $1 street tavos with a beverage purchase. The carnitas tacos are the best!
The owner checked on us each time we visited this place. Very nice guy who wanted to make sure our visit was great. Also highly recommend the margaritas. This is a great place for lunch/dinner or to meet friends for happy hour. Friendly atmosphere and people, great outdoor patio, great food . . . what else could you ask for?
My highest recommendation for quality food, great service, and nice people. Also live music on Fridays. Great fun!
We went there on 7/15 for dinner after reading/hearing positive things about this place. It was a nice day, so we sat on the pation. Overall we liked the food and ambiance of this place. I ordered a Mascato drink (not sure of the name), Camarones A La Diabla amd my wife got Fajitas Caseras. Unlike some reviews we thought the chips and house hot salsa was okay. The default salsa was terrible. I am saying ok because once you like Chipotle chips and hot salsa, everything else pales in comparison (just my personal opinion). However, 2 aspects prevented me from giving 5 stars. I am all for authenticity but the menu went overboard. 90% of the dishes are described in spanish. Not sure if this is "politically correct" but not everybody can speak spanish. We wanted some pico and was charged $ 1.45. If I remember correctly, pico is free and at the condiment area in Chipotle and Baja fresh. I guess it was because this place is not a "Fast food mexican restaurant". I will definetly go again but just my 2 cents.
Review Source:The place is clean and it is centrally located, but not sure I would come here again.
It took almost 10 minutes to seat us due to understaffing. Â We came for lunch and there was no music on, so it seemed uncomfortably quiet during our meal. Â They did turn on the music halfway through and that improved the ambiance. Â
The food was ok, but really nothing spectacular. Â I didn't care for the beef tacos (the beef was cut too big and was hard to chew), the enchiladas were good though. Â I agree that the salsa was too mild, but it still had nice flavor. Â The server was very friendly.
Overall, it was just a 'meh' experience. Â Not terrible, but not awesome, either.
This place is amazing! Delicious authentic Mexican food. The best part is EVERYTHING IS HOMEMADE!!! Even the drinks! They make the best margarita in Folsom. Furthermore, the service is wonderful and fast. However, If you're in to salty gross fatty food, don't come here. This place is fresh and uses quality ingredients and isn't salty! Great food, great atmosphere, and is my favorite place to eat out in Folsom.
Review Source:With so many Mexican joints in Folsom you would think they would all be scrambling to be the best at what they do but in general we have been underwhelmed. We did enjoy an early evening mid-week dinner at El Pueblo and we are looking forward to giving their "kids eat free' Sunday deal a try.
We enjoyed their chips and salsa - other reviews complained of the salsa being bland but I prefer to enjoy the chips and tomato taste vs. burning off my taste buds.
We ordered the shrimp ceviche - big chunks of shrimp and avocado - yum!
My children's kids' meals were plenty to fill them up (and that is saying a lot for our growing boys).
I have a dairy allergy and the waitress was careful to discuss with me my options for my main course. My food arrived void of offending cheese or sour cream. I got a combo plate and while I liked the beef taco the rest of the plate was just sort of ok. Maybe it would have all been better with a nice coating of cheese.
My husband ordered a burrito - it was huge. He said it was good but over salted. The ingredients were fresh and plentiful but could have done without quite so much salt or sauce.
The one disappointment was the sangria - I am not a frequent drinker and a half of a small glass of wine usually goes to my head fairly quickly. This large glass of ice/sangria left me feeling, well... nothing. It was like drinking some watery juice. Next time I may give one of their margaritas a chance or maybe I will save my 1-2x a month drink for a good glass of wine at home.
This is the kind of place that makes me either wonder what is wrong with people or how I won the lottery of an awful meal.
The salsa was limp, uninspired, and utterly lacking in flavor. So we ordered some hot salsa, which was also devoid of most any flavor other than heat.
My fish tacos tasted nasty. Not like fish gone bad, but more like they bought the cheapest, nastiest fish from China. The sauce on the fish was not good and didn't help to hide the nastiness.
I don't think anyone at my table really enjoyed their meal either.
This is Americanized Mexican food at its worst.
Taco Bell would be better (and I hate Taco Bell.)
Meh.
p.s. the margaritas were watery!
Great food and awesome service. Been coming here consistently for a couple months now and it never fails me. They always remember me by name and my order....even what kind of beer I like! The carnitas is my favorite. By far some of the best I have ever had. Nice to see good Mexican food in Folsom.
Review Source:I have been here 3 times with my husband and finally I must review. This place is amazing! Forget Chevy's or whatever Mexican joint you like, the food here is unforgettable. Everything we have had here was delicious, including the cocktails. The tacos here are the best I've ever had so whoever is doing the cooking here, please NEVER let them go. Needless to say, my favorite Mexican restaurant.
Review Source:This is my favorite Mexican restaurant by far. Everything is made fresh daily. The black bean dip is amazing and healthy, and the fajitas are full of flavor and cooked perfectly. The staff is super friendly and efficient. The bar is fully stocked and they use fresh ingredients (key limes, real fruit puree) in their mixed & blended drinks.  I've even seen them infuse tequila (pineapple was the one I tasted). The margaritas are authentic and tasty, and they have a great wine list. The owner is really friendly and accommodating. He's  a creative mixologist too. He made me a jalapeno, mango martini thing that was unique and delicious. The outdoor seating and live music make for a really relaxing, fun night out. They get busy so I'm looking forward to the remodeling their doing to accommodate their growing clientele. I love this place!
Review Source:It's safe to say El Pueblo is my new favorite Mexican restaurant! The first thing that comes to mind when I think of this place is the amazing "street tacos"! Only $1/ea on Happy Hour! Their fish and shrimp tacos also come to mind. So delicious! The hospitality you will receive at this restaurant is remarkable, especially from the owner "Danny". Great beer selection and all reasonably priced! Can't wait to go back!
Review Source:Food was average, at best. Â Probably closer to bad. Â Albondigas was bland. Â Enchilada was runny. Â Carnitas taco was bland. Â Flauta was super dry. Â Beans were flavorless. Â And lastly, the salsa was wack - zero flavor. Â Overall, I would never eat here again because the food was garbage. Â I'm not sure what the other reviews are about, but this place is just flat-out NOT GOOD.
Service was great though. A white cat named Zack, and a chick named Katie, were both very helpful and friendly. Â Honestly, this review is only getting 2-stars because the service was great. Â Service was 5-star, food gets a zero.
So if you go to a restaurant for the food, skip this place. Â If you go for good service, well then you will be happy. Â But let's face it. Â Nobody goes to a restaurant for the service, it's just expected to be good to coincide with a pleasurable dining experience. Â This place falls flat on the most important part of that - the food. Â I don't know much about the area, so maybe there are other restaurants that are better, but we chose this place based on the Yelp reviews and I have to admit, I think they are fabricated. Â Could be wrong, but that's my assumption.
Lastly, I also got to watch the manager dude scolding his hostess about a Yelp review, or an email, or something. Â They were talking about another employee and the hostess seemed to be getting yelled at for the situation as well. Â He seriously had Yelp pulled up two tables over from my family and was discussing a bad review with his employees. Â I'm all for constructive criticism - but in front of your customers, well that's just trashy. Â I guess the behavior fits in with the food!
Go someplace else.
Went there yesterday and was not impressed at all. We asked to sit out on the patio since it was such a nice day. Once out there, we saw that the patio was completely enclosed, blocking their view of the beautiful greenbelt behind the building. Also, there was another couple smoking 2 tables away! What is the deal with restaurants in this strip mall and smoking? They seem to all condone it. We mentioned it to the waiter and he told us that they let people smoke out there sometimes. Really? Did you know there was a law about that? Try reading up on business practices before getting into the business. Anyway, we were re-seated indoors to get away from the smell.
There is a large sign right in next to the front door that advertises Happy Hour pricing all day on Wednesday and Thursday. As this was Wednesday, we asked to order from the Happy Hour menu only to be told they "didn't do that anymore". Can you say "false advertising"? I think the waiter quickly changed his mind when he saw the look we gave him and got us the menu. We ordered 2 margaritas that everyone is raving about on Yelp and some nachos. The drinks came out filled with ice and it seemed they forgot to add anything else but water. The nachos were snack sized and made me sick the rest of the night and into the next day. All of this for $20.
We drank our lousy drinks, ate the nachos, and left as soon as we could. There is no way I will set foot in this place again. I could have had better food at Jim Boy's.
The smoking killed the whole thing for us. If that's what you want, go to this place or the Beer Garden next door. Both seem to let you smoke as much as you want around the food. But don't go for the drinks, food, or ambiance. Those three are all pretty bad.
This place is my wife's new favorite Mexican restaurant. She's even gotten several of her friends turned onto the place. The food is delicious, the drinks are tasty (margaritas from scratch like they should be--no sweet and sour mix), and the staff is friendly and fairly efficient most of the time.
They also have live music occasionally on the weekend evenings. Nothing too loud or obnoxious and I've always been impressed by the music.
The owner (he usually mans the bar) is a nice guy, too. Stop buy, have a drink, and talk to him a bit. You'll be glad you stopped in!
(Oh, yeah! I almost forgot the best part. If you're too tired to go out but you're craving delicious Mexican food, El Pueblo delivers! You can't beat that!)
Excellent Food. Honestly, it's one of my favorites in Folsom. Last time was a little "iffy" because I ordered shredded beef tacos and the server took my order and then came back and told me they were out of beef. That was kind of a bummer but oh well, I ordered something else. After dinner, we all ordered fried ice cream. She brought our food out and there was no whipped cream so we asked and they were out of whipped cream too. In the end they gave us a discount, which did make up for it.
The only thing I'm not a fan of is the salsa. It is a little too thin for my tastes. I prefer a chunkier salsa.
Besides that one visit, the food is always wonderful and fresh. My family enjoys it very much and will continue to eat there.
p.s. The shredded beef is the bomb!
Tomato sauce for salsa, no heat and chopped cilantro for dimension.
The chips were freshly crispy and thin the way i like em. Â
Now ive eaten more street tacos than i can count but i can officially say these are the smallest version ive ever seen! Â Even at happy hour prices $2.95 for two its not worth it!
So if you like tomato sauce w/ cilantro salsa, come here. Well im in Gringo land, so what else can i expect except watered down salsa. :)
For happy Hour prices, they require a drink purchase.

The food is 4 stars but the service wasn't
We sat on the patio...without giving us a menu (although they were in his hands) the male server kinda yells over "can I get drinks started for you"...well. I just ordered water, without a menu I didnt want to order a margie, then find out it was 13.00 bucks or something. Then I had to ask him for the menus. Because he was about the walk away with them.
2 women came in sat in another servers area about 8 mins after us, they had chips/salsa, drinks and ordered BEFORE WE GOT WATER. Finally one of my co-workers said, "lets just leave". We didn't but I had to yell over to the very nice female server to find out were our water was, she then took our order as well.
Side note -when the male sever came out with our water. FINALLY . it had been a good 10-12 mins,....people water should take 5 mins tops!!!!! Â
The food was good, i had an "upscale burrito bowl" and my co-workers had Nachos. The female server was awesome, and seemed like she was helping most of the tables...I would come here again in a heartbeat, but i would request the female server! Sorry guys!
We ordered takeout last night and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We can recommend the grilled fish tacos and carnitas burritos. The fish was fresh and well flavored. The rice and beans on the side were decent. The carnitas burrito was a generous size with flavorful carnitas that were not too dry. The complimentary chips were fresh and light and the salsa a nice mild to medium spice. We have found an alternative to Dos Coyotes for after work takeout dinner. We will have to try dine-in next.
Review Source:Went in with a party of ten on a Friday afternoon and was simply amazed by the tastes and textures. Several other posts have commented on El Pueblo's margaritas, and they're right. Â These were the best margaritas I've ever tasted. Â Mine were on the rocks, and tasted like a sophisticated, perfectly balanced cocktail that I had never imagined a margarita to be. Â It's spoiled (educated) me, as I'll probably never order one from a different place again. Â (Honestly, it was that different.)
The food was fantastic and also similarly re-imagined: fresh, tasty, novel, and wonderfully presented by a gracious staff. Â Even the black bean dip had me thinking, "Okay, I've never tasted anything like this before..." Â I don't know how the cooks developed their recipes, but their ability to be creative and courageous, while still honoring the basic themes won me over. Â I can't wait to go back.
Best Mexican food in the area. Everything is fresh - no canned sauces in this place. Went on a Tuesday evening - they offer Tacos for $1 on Tuesdays, 4 different kinds. We tried all 4 & they were fantastic - incredible deal for a $1 each.
Modelo Especial & Negra on tap among others, REAL margaritas made with organic agave instead of corn syrup (so tasty!) & a great selection of wines, too.
For the entrees we had the Shrimp Pasilla, Shrimp Enchiladas & a Shredded Beef Tostada - AWESOME! The Shrimp Pasilla is a fire roasted chile stuffed with scrumptious spicy shrimp & cream cheese - not only is this one of the more unique dishes you'll find, it is sooooooooooo good - AND it comes with an enchilada, too! The Shrimp Enchiladas were perfect. El Pueblo's freshly made Verde sauce is the best I've had - a must try. The Shredded Beef Tostada was filled with tasty beef, fresh lettuce & spicy beans (you get your choice of a variety of beans with each entree - try the spicy beans, you'll love them!)
Our server was Jesse, one of the owners - everything was served quickly & Jesse engaged us in conversation the entire time - truly enjoyable.
If your idea of "good" food is Denny's - you should probably head straight to Chevy's - plenty of tasteless, corporate fare there to satisfy your lack of taste buds.
For the rest of us who enjoy REAL food & drinks served by GENUINE people - a big thank you to the fine folks at El Pueblo for your hard work & dedication to keeping it real. And if you haven't tried El Pueblo yet...what are you waiting for?
Several failed restaurants in this location. This one will make it. The food is fresh tasting and the flavors really pop. I love the carnitas. This is a difficult dish and can easily be overcooked and tough. I've had it here 4 times, consistently delicious. The guacamole made table side is good, I'll ask to kick it up a bit next time as we like spicy. The margaritas are also very good. We've enjoyed very good service. The food takes a little while, even if they are not crowded. This reflects care taken in the kitchen. Have another margarita and chill. Portions are large, make room in the fridge for leftovers before you leave home!
Review Source:The margaritas were very good.. weak... But tasty. Â I tried the Chile Relleno, Chimichanga & quesadillas.... The Chile Relleno wasnt very authentic, the sauce tasted like a spaghetti sauce :( the quesadillas lacked all around! The only decent food Item was the chimichanga. Â
Lucky we bought  a groupon coupon for tonights dinner cause I'd never pay full price to eat there again.
Margarita didnt come in a fun glass nor were they strong, small environment, live music with popular songs:)!! A bit of a wait for the food to arive but promptness of waitress and she wasn't overly hovering the table thank god!
Had shrimp fajitas and date had chicken ones, they were delicious and for leftovers too! Didn't charge for extra tortillas
We didn't order it but you can get guac made infront of you which is super cool but its6$ andyou get a small bowl, smaller than a cd in circumference
Overall yummy food;) it made for a good date night
Went back tonight and had the Shrimp Pasilla. Â It was wonderful! Â The pasilla pepper was a bit undercooked for me, but it had a wonder, sweet flavor that really accented the plump (and many) shrimp stuffed into it! Â It came with a cheese enchilada, and I got the black beans (yummers!).
They now have a full bar with many yummy tequilas to try. Â They also have my favorite Mexican beer on tap - Negra Modelo! Â They also have Modelo Especial, Sierra Nevada, Blue Moon (for now) and Coors Light (for now). Â Their margaritas are made with freshly made mix that tastes as fresh as the rest of their food! Â And because of that freshness it didn't leave that acidy feeling in my stomach after..
In my first review I was remiss in not mentioning Danny is also the co-owner with Jesse. Â The reviewer apologizes!
My wife and I popped in here on a whim for lunch one day. Â Kids were at school and we had some alone time to kill. Â Great menu, very reasonable prices, quaint interior, and a nice patio dining area. Â It was a sunny warm day during our visit so we opted to sit outside.
The chips and salsa are always a good test of a new mex joint and El Pueblo passed the test. Â Chips were crispy and warm, not greasy. The salsa had a similar fresh taste, with a nice roasted-tomato flavor. My wife had the chicken soft tacos and I had carnitas. Â Wow! Â Fresh and authentic! Â
Great service too. Â We had a very nice waitress that was there whenever we needed her but she didn't rush us.
A 5-star in my book!
