The worst service I've ever had at a restaurant. I waited ten minutes for a waiter to come to our table, but no one came so I flagged down a waiter who went to look for ours. Nearly five minutes later, our waiter finally showed up. We told him we were ready to order our food, but he said we could not order drinks and food at the same time. Five minutes later we were finally allowed to order our food.
I thought the worst was over, but I was so very wrong. I would like the reader to keep in mind that this happened at 5pm on a Tuesday night when the place was not yet busy with dinner but well staffed. We waited for our food, but it never came even 20 minutes later. We were just about to leave when it showed up. We both ordered the pork tacos. The meat was greasy and limp, the rice was extremely greasy and flavorless, the shells were store bought, and the beans were dry. I cannot believe we waited so long for that.
Our waiter managed to disappear again. My son was feeling sick, so I had to flag another waiter down in order to get our check. Another seven minutes go by before our check appears. I had a groupon I was using for our meal. The waiter told me that I could not use it. I asked him why, but all he would say was "no tonight." I told him that I was going to use it tong
F*ck this place!!! The worst service ive ever had!!!!! And the food has become crap... When taco bell is better then you...well ya got some big issues... Â Ive never walked out with out leaving a tip...but the staff Was that bad!!! At least I got to leave a little note on their comment card... 20 mins to get seated, 40 more to order... 50 more to get our cold food and warm beers...no one came back after that.. I tried to flag someone down to pay..but no use... I had to start being loud to get them over to us... But the fat girls that sat next to us got waited on like they owned the place..
DONT EVER GO!!!!
I went here not expecting much, so I wasn't exactly disappointed when I got my mediocre meal.
Looking around I noticed the interior and commercialization of their desserts, and it tipped me off that their food would lack authenticity.
I ordered the cheese enchiladas with rice and beans. It was all very bland. The enchiladas were only doused in red sauce, which left it plain. The sauce and the rest of the meal tasted like it came from a can or a precooked bag.
The wait staff was also nothing incredible. He failed to come check in on us and actually "service" us.
I will not be going back. If you want good Mexican, seek other options.
HAHA, I can't believe people take this place seriously food wise. Â It is a bar named El Salto.
If you think you're going to head to this place to eat, plan on being in the hospital a few hours later. Â On the other hand, a great place to grab a drink and play some pool.
Very 1980's style bar.
The food hear is soaked in grease, all the veggies taste frozen and everything is smothered in a thick layer of mexican cheese as if it is supposed to distract from it's horrible food. My sister used to love this place so we went here often until about 6 months ago when we both got horribly sick after eating here. I mean I lived a quarter mile from here and we both thought we were going to mess our pants on the way home and then fought over the bathroom. Eww, I can't even stomach the thought of going back here. When i want mexican I'll go to Agave in Hobart instead.
Review Source:This is more of a generic Mexican place for NWI, and so it has the festive vacation interior and the look of a good-times corporate Mexican place. This said, the food here is solid and not that bad at all, and the service is good. If you have friends who prefer this sort of place to a taqueria and want to drink a bunch of margaritas, you have your mark here.
No one propositioned anyone when I was here, but that would have been funny.
I went here for my boyfriend's mom's birthday and I actually think this El Salto is better than the El Salto in Chesterton. Â The menu appears slightly different and they have a variety of healthy options listed (I can't remember if the menu did in Chesterton or not). Â We sat outside on a really lovely day. Â The waiter seemed very stressed, possibly with an inside/outside section on this busy day, but I thought he did his best to give us good service. Â I ordered shrimp and vegetable quesadillas as one of their healthy options and I thought it was honestly one of the best meals I've had at a mexican restaurant. Â Their chips and salsa and chips and queso were AWESOME. Â I really enjoyed this and would love to go back.
Review Source:Eating at el salto started out a little salty...we really didn't have a waitress for the first twenty minutes. Â Finally i asked a waitress hey do you want to be our waitress!!! Â Then we started getting drinks, chips and great food. Â I got a burrito with (Mexican pork carnitas) very delicious. Â Their rice and beans...great flavor. Â Everything was very good. Â They even had a cheesy guy singing some Lady Gaga or something in the background...that might of not been very "Ethnic" but it was damn funny after a few margaritas! Â Overall I give this place 4 out of 5 stars...might of gotten a big 5 if we had a waitress for the first 20 minutes.
Review Source:We come here on occasions due to the lack of al fresco dining in Northwest Indiana. Â Yes, it's great to come here during the summer for a cold Negra Modelo and Margaritas while sitting outdoors. Â As far as the food goes, I'm not impressed. Â The ambiance, decor, and servers make it seem as if you are going to eat something authenticly Mexican and homemade. Â It lacks REAL Mexican taste. Â I have yet to find a great Mexican restaurant in the immediate region. Â Otherwise, I trek to the city to get my fix.
Review Source:Well, I have to write another review because we ate here last night. Â The salsa wouldn't come out of the bottle because it was too cold. The chips were uncharacteristically greasy. Â The tostada thingy I ate was stale. Â The food was not hot. Â I used to somewhat like this place. Â Since they've gotten bigger the food has suffered. Â The service is always great though.
Review Source:While this isn't the most exceptional Mexican food, I was pleased with the flavors and especially pleased with the prices-- especially Bohemia for $2.50!
That being said, the ambience needs some work-- notably, the gigantic projection screen is really just too much. Â I was eating Mexican food in a place with carved tables... and watching a show about World War II. Â WTF? Â I understand the need of the screen for futbol games, or special events, but to have it down all the time is just creating too much chaos.
The food is tasty-- I had the chicken fajitas, while my sister had the shrimp mole. Â Her dish won. Â Rich flavor, smoky-- and once again, inexpensive.
Good spot to go, but I really do hope they tone down the amount of televtision clatter in the dining room. Â If you want to watch TV, go to the bar.
I'm VERY picky about Mexican food. Â I can usually tell if I am going to like the food when I step in the door. Â If it looks a little run down, a little hole-in-the-wall-ish, a little chaotic - then I know it's going to be good. Â That's why I was so surprised when I tasted the delicious food at El Salto. Â It's a clean establishment with friendly and quick service. Â I've never had anything I don't like. Â The beer is always cold, service always spectacular, and enchiladas always extra cheesy - just how I order them!
Review Source:I went here while visiting my parents for the holidays. Â I was missing the L.A. taco trucks and needed some good Mexican food. Â Gotta say, I thought it was really good. Â We went there on a Friday night and there was just a short wait to be seated (it was snowy out though, so maybe that kept some people from going out). Â First off, as with many Mexican restaurants, you get chips and salsa to start off. Â The chips are good, nothing too special about them though. Â The salsa is good too, although I wouldn't mind a little more spice to it. Â For dinner, I had the combination chicken, steak and chorizo plate, which was served with rice and bean and tortillas. Â All was very well prepared and tasty. Â The chicken and the steak were both tender and juicy and the chorizo was cooked perfectly. Â The service was good too, attentive and friendly. Â Overall, very good and pretty authentic Mexican food for NW Indiana. Â I'd recommend it.
Review Source:Really great stuff, although I've only dined in once, I've picked up food many times. This is about as authentic as it gets in the NWI area, you can't get any better. For a small price, you can get a huge burrito with stuff piled on it.
The inside is very lackluster, nothing special about it, but who cares, if you're going for the food it shouldn't be a big deal at all.
