Despite the relatively pleasant cooked meat smell as you walk in -- the chicken/ rib combo whatever I had was foul... slathered in slime of liquid smoke and sugar-oil.
This was my first (and last) Elephant Bar experience... I was under the impression they were a little nicer. Happened to be in town for a family event and sadly this was deemed the "nicest place around" for all of us to gather. I think we all wished we saved a bit of cash had a way tastier meal over at Denny's nearby.. alas it was not to be.
This place seems to hire immature employees who have problem taking a simple lunch order, and then to top it  off the bill was wrong.  It took the server 3 times to get it right. On the way out, five of the staff, screamed at us "to have a nice day". It seem the server went in the back and complained about the situation that she caused and got other staff members to harass a special outing  for an 86 year old lady, thinking it would embarrass us.
Review Source:I normally dine at the Elephant Bar during lunch, as the food is normally good, and the service is pretty efficient for a lunchtime crowd. I met a client at the restaurant for a business meeting, and also to have a little birthday "hoo-rah". (it was my birthday)
The food came out pretty quick - actually before we had finished with our Salmon roll appetizer. I ordered the lunch chicken Marsala dish, and to my surprise, when I cut into the chicken, it was still RAW!!! At this point, my appetite was just about gone. The manager came over and apologized and said that the cook will be spoken to about making sure the meat is cooked thoroughly. He said that our meals would be taken care of and insisted on me ordering something else. Since I really didn't have that much of an appetite anymore, I ordered a side of sweet potato fries and another salmon roll. I may have taken a couple bites from both.
The waiter stopped by and asked if I wanted my birthday sundae, which I declined. We then received our check. Everything we ordered was on the bill, except for my client's meal. HUH!?!?!? You serve me raw chicken, and you still want us to pay for the meals? They obviously aren't aware of the ramifications of serving raw meat to customers.
My "normal dining" at this establishment has dwindled to NONE just that quick! It would have been nice for the customer service of the management staff to step up to the plate and take care of our meals. Wishful thinking. Customer service is obviously down the drain at this restaurant!
Well first of all let me say that unless there are 2 people in your party, don't go. Â This is sort of the way sushi bars are because unless there are 2 people in your party the service sucks. Â The food is good. Â That is why I gave it the second star. Â We came with a large party of about 20. Â I expected service to be compromised, but not completely horrible...and it was. Â I ordered their create your own burger. I ordered beef patty with onion straws, bbq sauce, gorgonzola crumbles, cheddar cheese, bacon, raw onion slices. Â I asked in advance for a side of blue cheese dipping sauce, and ordered sweet potatoe fries. Â They took a really long time to bring out our food, but the servers were very nice. Â I looked at my plate and had a burger with lettuce, tomatoe, and gorgonzola crumbles. So I was going to tell the waitress that my order was wrong, but it seems I had to wait in line for everyone else who had things wrong on their orders. Â So finally I tell her and she is like, "Oh, I will tell the cooks they forgot your bacon." Â And I said, "Ok, but can you also tell them they forgot my cheddar, onion straws, bbq sauce, raw onions, and take away my lettuce and tomatoes. " Â She agreed. Â I also asked for my side of blue cheese that she never brought. Â Oh, and to begin with she gave me a seperate side of fries that I told her I never ordered, and instead of taking them she leaves them there. Â I didn't eat them. Â So she comes back with my food still missing my blue cheese and raw onions, so I asked again for the sauce. Â My Aunt ordered a coffee and my Uncle ordered a steak. Â They never brought out cream or sugar or steak sauce. Â I asked again for the blue cheese. Â How many people know that it's all the little extra things like condiments that make things just right! So she finally (It was atleast 15mins) brings out my sauce even though my food was cold now, and she tells my aunt she will get her a new coffee because hers was cold now and she still didn't have cream or sugar. She brings out the coffee with the cream and sugar, and I asked if she could bring steak sauce for my uncle. Â Finally!!! She brings some for him and his steak is totally cold by now. Â I would say that only the cooks suck with giving the wrong orders...but the servers are right up there with them! Â Then we get our bills....WRONG!!! They charged me for the extra fries I never ordered and charged other family members wrong too! Amazingly horrible! Â My burger was good after so many attempts to make it right, but really?! Â So there it is and beware of horrible service with pretty decent food.
Review Source:WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS PLACE! Â My wife and I used to love the food at the Elephant Bar, but we went there on Saturday, 16 March, because we had coupons for their 2 for $20 or $7 off a bill of $25 or more, and the menu had changed, apparently not for the better.
We decided we weren't hungry enough for the 2 for $20, so we looked through the new menu to find some of our favorites. Â I loved their spring roll, but it was no longer on the menu. Â My wife felt like having a soup and salad, but didn't see it on the menu either. She asked our server who said yes, she could still get it.
I ordered the spicy chicken and shrimp stir fry and my wife ordered French onion soup and Caesar salad. Â The server asked if I would like white, brown, or stir fried rice with my stir fry. Â I told her I wanted brown rice. Â We also added an order of the crispy fried green beans.
The food came out very fast.  We weren't even done with the green beans when our entrées came out.  We both liked the green beans very much, but my stir fry had white rice instead of brown rice and my wife's onion soup had almost no liquid in it, more like an onion compote than soup.  I told the server I had asked for brown rice, not white rice, and asked for a side of brown rice.
The stir fry chicken and shrimp was cooked down so much and had so much sauce in it, I couldn't tell what the vegetables were (they were mush) and the shrimp (4 of them) were sitting on top of the white rice, not even in the stir fry. Â
We don't know what happened, but the food was not what we had come to expect from the Elephant Bar. Â The server was OK, but not super friendly. Â I doubt that we will go back anytime soon, if at all.
I came here with 10 other coworkers as one of them had a birthday. Â I got the California fruit salad with grilled chicken which was extra. It was decent, I expected more fruit than it had based on the name. They had slices of strawberries, peaches, blueberries and diced apples and pears. The dish costs about $13. Â Our waitress was friendly and did a great job handling our large group. Â
I don't recommend this place if you have a large group and have time constraints. We had a one hour lunch break. Â My coworker who planned the lunch called ahead to send our orders in advance to have the meals ready at a certain time so we didn't have to wait for them to prepare our food. This didn't seem to be a problem for them. When people first started to arrive they were told that they couldn't be seated until five of us were there which we weren't told about. When we were seated the waitress confirmed our orders but the food wasn't ready at the time we asked them to have it served. They only started to prepare the food after our order was confirmed. By the time we got our food it was 45 minutes into our lunch break. In fact we were late getting back to work. Coworker called the restaurant afterwards to talk to the manager and got an apology.
It was my first time eating at an Elephant Bar, and I really enjoyed my meal here on Saturday afternoon.
The menu was a bit overwhelming at first, but for the good variety, I was surprised that the prices aren't too bad. Slightly overpriced, but I expect that at chains like this. I settled for the Mongolian beef with brown rice (love that as an option) and a tropical martini (I think that's what it's called).
Martini was delicious and STRONG. I love anything with mango. My entree was extremely satisfying. I didn't expect it to taste anything like traditional Mongolian beef...it tasted like Korean BBQ. Very sweet. Crispy. Yum. Vegetables were grilled perfectly. Tried my friend's fried tempura salmon rolls and thought they were great!
Service was fantastic. I'm glad, since it made my first experience enjoyable.
Even though we were already full, my friend opted to order dessert to share. She ordered the three mini desserts (tempura ice cream, some sort of cobbler, and brownie), and we all finished it. Delicious!
Overall, can't wait to come back to Elephant Bar closer to home. Prices are good for drinks, and I'll definitely come back for that martini. While the prices are high for Chinese food, I don't mind splurging once in a while for it.
It had been several months since I last dined here, but I returned to this Elephant Bar to again depart generally pleased with the experience. Â Pan Asian Lettuce Wraps offered just enough lettuce cups (4) to cover what I found to be interesting pieces of cooked chicken with a smokey flavor.
Baked Onion Soup was very good, with a robust deep flavor of beef stock, well-caramelized onions, and a rather thick covering of Swiss Cheese. Â And, a man-sized serving of Pan Braised Rock Sugar Beef with Pappardelle Noodles, big mushroom caps, and a tasty dark brown gravy was very satisfying comfort food.
Meanwhile, Diane liked her Big E Classic Cheeseburger with bacon that was visibly medium rare as ordered, and her 3-Cheese Macaroni Appetizer. Â I thought the burger's zebra design wrapper was quite cool and appropriate in the jungle environment in which we were eating. Â
Our server was friendly and efficient. Â Within 15 minutes after I told her that part of the men's restroom was flooded, I checked it again and the wet area had been completely cleaned up, and was dry. Â Our booth was comfortable, and the food all hot and very tasty.
I was meeting my mom's good friend for lunch and they picked the Elephant bar because she had a 2 for $20 coupon which comes with an appetizer or dessert 2 choices for the entree. We ordered the lemon chicken, spicy shrimp and had a.choice of brown, white and fried rice and vegetables as the side. Â We also ordered the salmon plate with the fried rice that was on the lunch menu. Our drinks came first, I had the strawberry lemonade and was not too bad but I had better.
10 minutes later the chicken lettuce wraps arrived and tasted perfect and the sauce was a little spicy and included some chopped tomatoes. We had to ask for more lettuce wraps because we had more minced chicken left over. Entrees arrived 15 minutes later and we all dug in the plates and all tasted fantastic. The waiter that served us was excellent and always refilled our drinks and checked how we were doing. The restaurant has a Safari theme to it with a great bar area and I can imagine how it would be busy there at night. I'd come back for sure but to check out the bar if I'm in the area.
Among all the chain restaurants down Hospitality Lane in San Bernardino, I do favor this Elephant Bar. This place has been open for 5-7+ years and although the concept is now kind of out-dated in my opinion (Asian Fusion in a Safari dreamworld), the food is still good and a nice place to have lunch/dinner.
Here are my Elephant Bar favorites:
1. Chicken Lettuce Wraps: I always get this. Only around $8 and around 500 calories... not to mention it is delicious with the chicken stir fry, mango salsa, peanut sauce and crisp lettuce leaves. They always tend to give more lettuce leaves than needed but whatever.
2. Calamari: Good seasoning and tender. It says its soy... so I wonder if it really is calamari meat or just flavor? Anyways it is really good.
3. Full Order of lamb shanks: Seems like EVERYONE loves the lamb shanks here and I can see why... the meat is plenty, and it is so tender, it falls off the bone. It comes with garlic mashed potatoes and vegetables.
4. Shrimp Adventure Platter: 3 types of shrimp! I forgot what else it comes with but it is alot and it is yummy!!
5. Wonton Sundae: Ice cream sundae in a sweet deep fried wonton bowl. Pretty big and it is only $3!!
6. Mud pie! Very very tall slice of ice cream cake only for $5!!!! WTF!?!?!
7. Sweet potato fries: Well this is one of the first places I've tried sweet potato fries back in the early 2000s, now its a common item in alot of restaurants. Either way the fries are good here.
Other than that there is a good happy hour and the bar is cool looking (hence the name). Overall, a good chain restaurant! LOL
Ok Because of this trip The phant bar (miss spelled on purpose) is permanently off my list of places to eat. No one opened the door for us. All thought the guy at the front did really well greeting us and asking if we wanted a booth(something that me and my lady always have to ask everywhere else). My bad review is not for him it was everything else that happened after. Some old guy missed the toilet bowl and didn't clean up his mess. I mentioned it to our server and she didn't do anything about it. It took someone else to say something to clean it up. Also our food was terrible. and the free dessert "the giant cookie" was all stale and overly sweet. This place should be called the elephant grave yard. Forgive me but that's the truth
Review Source:WHAT THE HECK! Â HUM....
Hello Mr. American, Chinese, Japanese place decorated in an African attire. Â Â What do I even say about this chain restaurant?
Let's keep it short, shall we:
- Affordable: Prices are not high at all for food, but some of their mixed drinks items are over priced.
- Decor: Â While I have no idea what "type" of restaurant this is, the setting and mood is very chill and nice to chat with a friend over dinner.
- Food: Â Above average with a large selection of differing plates to chose from. Â If you don't know what type of food you want for dinner, come here.
It's a normal Elephant Bar. Â Weird selection of food and staff that tries to up-sell the items. Â "Meh, I've experienced better."
This is a pretty decent casual dining establishment. :)
We arrived for my friend's bday dinner. I've never been to an Elephant Bar restaurant and found it to have a pleasant themed interior and ambiance. I ordered the citrus side salad & guinness and my boyfriend ordered the wok stir fry tofu with veggies and brown rice. Oddly, they split his order for two even though we didn't request that.
The service was attentive, prompt, and organized...especially for the size of our party. We dined outside in the heated patio. Found food and experience enjoyable and fairly priced, especially for chain, casual dining. Good for catching up with a group of friends over a meal.
As a guest, this place is just alright. The wait to be seated can be a bore but overall, its usually a place you're seated immediately. There aren't a lot of tables that are pleasant to sit at though becquse most are surrounded by other tables and the place gets extremely loud. There are some booths against the back wall that fill up quickly though, so if you want peace, call ahead.
The waiter we had was a total di(&. We were three young hot chicks and it was like he had something to prove, I guess being a jacka$$ could make you look good? He wasn't even a great server either. Sad.
The food was, however delicious.
Now, I started working there shortly after and the management staff was a joke (2 of the 4 were fired and 1 of the 4 was transferred). The servers only have 3 to 5 table sections and 90% of them can't handle that. Hosts or other servers, even managers would have to make drinks and carry out food. The busing staff is decent but so slow. They're will only be two busers on for a 40 table restaurant on a Friday night. Not smart.
The bar area, half priced drinks from cheap to spendy is nice. Half priced appetizers, sweet. And the bar is probably the nicest area of the restaurant.
As a guest goes, I'd rate this place overall 3.5 stars, but as a worker goes, I'd give it a 3 star rating. So I'm gonna have to go with the 3 stars, rounding up would be lying.
Good thing to note.
Some of the servers are competent, but they usually work in the bar because its busier.
The food is very good. Never warm or dry, but hot and fresh.
The atmosphere is nice, but can get loud.
If you have a party of more than 6, call ahead. If you don't want to sit where they place you, say something and you'll be moved. In fact, you can ask for any table you want (thats empty of course).
Nice atmosphere...a chill place to be and hang out in. Not so crowded when we went, and hostess explained that after coming in to check our party in, she apologized for the wait since they don't want their servers overwhelmed and their customers be impatient in waiting for their food when everyone comes at once. Which was actually pretty honest, and nice! Our total wait time: 5 minutes!
Drinks were tasty and I liked the Shrimp Adventure Dish, which I shared. It was not crowded and overall, a good place to hang. Will be back again!
I had to stop and say to myself, "Tony...You're a cheapskate...Ease up on some of these places when you knock them for their price."
With that in mind, Elephant Bar is a good place to get some......(Get ready for this)...JUMBALAYA!  Yes!  I was blown away.  Now I'm not saying they beat out my mother, or Mrs. Graves' (You don't know her, but she made me some AWESOME jum!)...Anyway, I've been in there 3 or 4 times, and each time, I was greeted with a smile, sat down in a clean environment, and served some good food.  It's trendy, so any age can have a good time.  I had something else there, and I thought  "This is surprisingly good!" but I can' t remember what it was because they're always experimenting and changing their menu.  Head to the one in San Bernardino.  It's in the nice part, so you can just sit back and enjoy.  OH!  Sit outside during a summer night!
You know what, as a chain restaurant, it's like any other elephant bars. The food is okay, the jambalaya kinda sucks and isn't spicy at all, but their macadamia nut crusted mahimahi with brown rice is DELICIOUS. oh my freaking god, it's delicious. But I'm rating THIS particular elephant bar. Â I come here often to get drinks, watch the game and eat some food. Â As a student, the happy hour sings to me, and the offers are good! The food is great, and the prices are awesome. Â So you read this thinking "oh that's so nice...but why the 2 stars?" Well let me tell you.
THEIR SERVICE SUCKS...at the bar anyway.
Consistently, their service is shoddy, but I feel like this was the last straw. Â I waited 20 minutes. Â Got "checked on" by 3 different waiters/waitresses telling us that they'll be with us in a minute, get us menus, get us water, etc. Â I even saw the same waiter help another couple who came in 5 minutes after us. C'MONNNNNN is there NO communication among the servers/barstaff? I even see the same chick give another table a round of beers. What about our waters? OUR MENUS??? I was mad so I said after they give us our waters, I'm going to say something and then leave. But no waters came. Nobody came. So me and my friend bounced.
Needless to say, I'm not going back there again.
As a business traveler I look for:
1. Â Quality
2. Â Consistency
3. Â Service
I ate here two days in a row (so far) and experienced competent service the first night, and great service the second night (Jair was my excellent server).
The ahi tuna bowl is delicious with brown rice...I had that both nights. Â Tried a different dessert each night, and they were only...meh. Â
BUT! I do appreciate that they offer a small version of desserts, and list the calories of all their dishes at the back of the menu.
I came here expecting TGIFriday generic food and was pleasantly surprised by the freshness and thoughtfullness of the food.
Had the Nui Nui shrimp and Steak meal. The steak itself was overseasoned to the point of being to salty. The shrimp wasn't the greatest and nothing memorable from it.
I like the fact they have a lot of beers on tap. I ended up going with a few Black and Tans. They serve them pretty good here as the picture will show. I haven't seen that kind of foamy head very often.
Despite the meal not being great, I will be coming back again to try some of their other dishes on the menu. Hopefully next time they'll tell me there's a happy hour going on. I didn't know about it until I read it here on Yelp, which is a disappointment.
Ah, a safari-themed restaurant....not necessarily my choice in dining, but it was decent. Â While ordering, we noticed that they post the calories for all of their items in the menu. Â Man, so interesting to see how calorie-packed somethings can be (you can have your entire daily (or 2-days) intake in one sitting! Â
This scary thought forced me to downsize. Â Instead of a burger, I went for a veggie burger ::: Â I had to clear calories for a beer, right?!
All in all a decent meal and brew (and all for a low calorie total to boot!).
One of my very good friends was raving about this place. Â I told my other friends about it with the same zeal and excitement, only to find out that it was a chain. Â lol
In any case, during the summer, they have a nice bargain for the grill that comes with a lot of meat for a good price. Â I sometimes go here with my good friend and have had two of hie birthday parties there.
What is it with people going out to restaurants and ordering burgers or something they can get down the street and being surprised it was just OK.
Elephant Bar has a unusual menu, and they have recently changed it--don't know why. I used to get the lemon herb chicken served with mashed potatoes, but now?...Well if you hate seafood, like me, you either opt for the juicy and delicious New York steak or something like...well i have yet to see something I like.
The Asian food--like the Teriyaki chicken is bland and boring. It comes with about 20 small pieces of chicken and a bowl of white rice--seriously, that's all.
My family loves the platter that comes with coconut shrimp, mashed potatoes and other things. It's cheap, good, and fulfilling.
For dessert, the best thing to get is the brownie! It's delicious, and for only about 5/6 dollars it can feed about four people. They place a soft, hot brownie and put scoops of ice cream and finish it off with whipped cream and walnuts and Oreo crumbs.
Yum.. yum.. Elephant Bar.. I have driven by you for the past three years while I have been working in good ol' San Bernardino.
Now that I am leaving this job in a month.. going back to venture my way through Fullerton and all it's edible glory.. I finally find you and I am in love with you..
Your menu is as extensive as the CheeseCake Factories and features foods from various regions.. I'm impressed.
I tried out their egg noodle stir fry with shrimp and chicken thing.. and it was marvelous.. simply marvelous.. I loved every bite.. I'm usually a bit leery of brown sauces.. they tend to be overpowering and too salty for my bland palate.. but this was just right..
I forgot what Mom had.. but I know she enjoyed it..
I look forward to coming here again..
It's one of those places where you feel like you have to try EVERYTHING on the menu.. and there is a lot of stuff.. so it's gonna take awhile to get to everything.. but it's totally worth it!
After all the not so great reviews, I was pleasantly surprised!
My Food was great! I had the Sweet Potato fries and the Wok-Fired Chicken and Lettuce Wrap I ordered both Appetizers as my dinner. The platter for the chicken and lettuce was huge, I had plenty of food to take home so for the price it was not bad at all. I really enjoyed the chicken wraps the most. So good!
Our server and hostess was great.
The Women's Restroom was not very cleanly in ways I prefer not to type so (shudder), this is why I give 1 star off. Otherwise perfect!
I came here to celebrate an employee's b-day with my staff.
I had the sliders (4 mini-burgers) with a side of the sweet potato fries. Â The fries were really good. Â The burgers? Â Smeh. Â Meat was overcooked for my tastes. Â Also good, the half and half (half lemonade & iced tea).
Server was nice and attentive.
Applebees with a Pacific Island twist and a side order of Asian attitude! Â This place rocks. Â I just wish there was one here in San Diego. Â The atmosphere of the restaurant was colorful and delightful. Â As we were walking to our table, I kept scanning everyone's table and saying to myself, "Ooo, that looks good"!
The menu was filled with so many tantalizing choices. Â It was take me many return trips here to order all the dishes I wanted to check out. Â My party of four decided to just order a few dishes and some small plates so that we could all have a little sampler.
We ordered:
1. Â Tempura Salmon Roll and Pan Asian Soup with Teriyaki Chicken Skewer
Unforgettable salmon roll. Â The rest of the dish (soup and chicken) were good too but the sushi. Â Damn, awesome. Â The sauce used on the salmon roll truly enhanced the dish.
2. Â Sweet Potato Fries
The name speaks for itself. Â A different twist from the usual french fries.
3. Â The Steamer Trunk "Super Sampler"
Deep fried delight! Â Shrimp, chicken, loaded potato skins, and macho nachos. Â The perfect sidekick to a round of beers.
I cannot wait to break my diet for a day and come back.
If you haven't been to an Elephant Bar, think of a Rainforest Cafe for adults. Â If you haven't been to a Rainforest Cafe, consider yourself lucky. Â But I digress. Â
The place has a pretty extensive menu, with a number of fancy Asian-fusion dishes that I'm not all that familiar with (most of the items seemed to be priced in the $10 range, so I wasn't willing to spend that much on a lunch item that I might not enjoy). Â Ultimately, I decided on a pull-pork sandwich. Â The meat was somewhat dry AND overly sweet, which was a combination that didn't work for me, at all. Â I left the other half of the sandwich on my plate. Â I guess I ordered wrong.
They did a pretty good job of turning us over in under an hour, which is good when you only get an hour for lunch.
