If you're looking for gluten free, vegetarian/vegan and allergy friendly food in this area, you've found it. Â I don't know where else in the immediate area you would find as many options with dietary restrictions. Â So that's awesome. Â (Though I find it odd that all of their burgers come with cheese by default, because when you then have to order "without cheese" you feel like you're missing something)
Unfortunately, the food is only OK. Â Not bad, but not great. Â I think they're trying to do too much. Â
Service was great and I certainly understand why this place stays in business. Â That said, I'm not sure it would be my first choice for dinner in Hubbard Woods/Glencoe.
The staff was amazing!
I went in with a good friend who happens to have Autism. The staff was patient and allowed my friend to order independantly while maintaining focus on him and asking him to clarify not me. This usually does not happen anywhere. They even went as far as to turn off the music because it was making it difficult to relax while dining.
Oh forgot to mention off the charts grass fed organic burger and fries!
Amazing experience. ASD friendly!
This place is absolutely delicious! I always get the walnut burger (I often crave it between Everest Burger visits), but I like to try different toppings. My favorite combination is the "Everest Burger" with kalamata olives, blue cheese, and avocado. Mmm! I also love their cheesy fries - hand cut fries topped with melted gruyere! Their mint orange lemonade is also really light and refreshing.
My boyfriend has tried a lot of their meat burgers and has enjoyed every one!
This place is a great find! We have eaten here several times and the experiences have been consistently totally satisfying. Just the burgers alone justify the trip. Extremely flavorful, many standard and original versions to choose from and always cooked as requested. But there is much more to recommend. It's great to patronize a place that serves organically grown food. The service is attentive and friendly. And more recently they've added some really nice chicken and fish specialities. Even the coffee is rich and creamy! I am amazed that this place isn't patronized more. Go there. You'll love it!
Review Source:I'm in love with a walnut burger. And their unique burger combinations. This is my suburban guilty pleasure, and whether I am eating one of their burgers with pineapple, fried egg and beets, or building my own....I am sad when I finish.
I usually take it to go, Â but if you sit there, service is decent.
It's a gem in the suburbs.
Burgers are $10, but worth it in my opinion.
I had such high hopes... Â get it, EVEREST? Â high hopes? Â oh never mind...
Which is the same way I feel about this place... never mind.
It was not at all busy when we got there for lunch on a Thursday, just one other table with people. Â So we figured we could order our soup and fries first and then the burgers... Â Our first mistake.
While the Tortilla Soup was very tasty, that is where it ends. Â The french fries were, eh, not so hot. Â The chips were better than the fries, but that isn't saying much.
We ordered our burgers: Â I'll only go into my order...
For a starting point of $6.95 I built my own burger. Â Angus Grass-fed Beef (sounds good, right?), I ordered with it grilled onions and a $1.00 free-range fried egg. Â I asked for my burger to be cooked medium, it was well done and quite small, like a McD's quarter pounder, but maybe not as thick. Â The egg, which I asked for medium hard, was runny. Â Not a tasty burger, dry, over cooked, blah.
When the bill came, remember this is a burger joint, it was over $75 for four of us. Â Their pricing is really weird too. Â A regular Coke cost .50 cents more than a Diet Coke. Â Ice Tea is $3!! Â Plus they over charged for one of the burger add-ons.
Sorry but I will not make the trek to Everest Burger again...
Three kinds of vegan burgers (walnut, black bean, and portobello), vegan (and nonveg) buns, the option of vegan cheese, and two kinds of fries cooked in rice bran oil make this a winner. Â The walnut burger was of the loose mashed consistency rather than trying to be beeflike, but tasted great. Â
Staff is super attentive and friendly. Â Decor is nice and mountainy.
Definitely worth a trip, or perhaps three.
Note that some maps have the location wrong. Â Everest Buger is at the shopping plaza at the corner of Green Bay and Scott.
My family and friends love this place. I am a vegetarian and the black bean burger is flavorful and delicious. The toppings are plentiful, the burger is a great size and the sweet potato fries are second to none. I eat a lot of vegie burgers and this one is at the top of my list. We will return.
Review Source:I'm glad I didn't pay any attention to the low ratings some people gave this place. Â I don't know what they're talking about!!! Â The burger was delicious and good sized. Â The fries were awesome!! And the people were too!!
These people know what they're doing! Â Organic and top quality. Â You cannot compare lesser quality food to Organic and expect to pay the same price. Â And quite frankly, the burger was $9.95 which is less than many "fine dining" restaurants who do not serve grass-fed organic beef on a organic made from scratch bun!
Seriously - if you like Mc Garbage, eat elsewhere. Â If you want serious quality - eat at Everest Burger. Â Also, the place is comfortable and they play nice music!
I agree with another post: WE DO NEED BUSINESSES LIKE THIS TO SUCCEED!!!
Please try this family owned, organic, lovely restaurant!!!
I will echo all of the excellent reviews here as I really enjoyed the food, the service and the atmosphere. My reason for commenting is to address the couple of low rated reviews on here. As I read those reviews I wondered if those people normally don't eat organic or mainly eat burgers (and other foods) filled with your standard slime and chemical additives. If so, i think that's the reason it tastes different for you. Your pallet has been altered by those chemically changed foods and you're unable to appreciate real food. I, and my party, found the food to be delicious and full of flavor. This is what we need to support for the benefit for our health. GMOs and chemicals need to come out of our foods so that we can lower or even eliminate this health crisis we're in. The raise of health problems has risen at the same rate as the chemically altered foods entered our diets.
Review Source:There's a lot of good reasons to love Everest Burger. Â The music they play, the courteous and attentive service... the fact that everything tastes delicious, the fact that you get great value for the food, and the fact that everything is local, organic, and wholesome, especially for burgers and fries.
But the very best reason to love Everest Burger is this: WE NEED BUSINESSES LIKE THEM TO SUCCEED. Â
Why? Â Because they support local organic farms and products. Â Because unlike almost every other eatery on the planet Earth, they won't feed you stuff you would never eat if you knew what it was. Â Because they are fighting everything that's wrong with mass-produced, "pink-slime", ammonia treated meat and GMO wheat by offering an alternative that actually comes out tasting better than the standard.
I pray for the good of us all that this business survives and thrives - and I don't pray.
Tell Big Food that you don't want their genetically modified, hormone injected, mass produced crapfest. Â Tell Big Food you appreciate the taste of a good burger the way NATURE INTENDED FOR IT TO TASTE. Â Tell them you don't want fries scorched in animal fat - tell them you want fries that actually still taste like potatoes, cooked in rice oil, even better tasting than "potatoes" fried in partially hydrogenated bla bla bla.
Tell them that - by going out of your way to have a deliciously prepared, economically sound burger and fries served with the joy of a business that actually does give a rats ass about you and your health.
Love the botanic gardens but always looking for a good local restaurant since walking inevitably makes us hungry. Â We stopped at Everest before our walk around the gardens last time and all 4 of decided we would make it a tradition. Â Husband had a black bean burger and really liked it. Â I had the GF bun with a Fez turkey burger and loved it; the GF bun was actually very good. Â My daughter had the meatball slider and thought it was delicious. Â We all agreed that the cajun fries were the best (but we like spicy food). Â Atmosphere was clean and open. Â Wait-staff competent. Â Price was a little high for my liking but no more than appropriate for whole grain / organic food.
Review Source:OK, my review is only of breakfast there, and that makes me sad! I had no idea this place existed, and I don't know why it doesn't exist closer to my house. I went Sunday for a late breakfast and we were the only people in there. I had a Mediterranean omelette and tried my mom's blueberry pancakes (extra gluten please!). Both were delicious. My mom had been a few days before for lunch and had a salmon burger. I love how many vegetarian options they have, instead of just black bean. They had black bean, walnut, or a portabello option. Plus thin and crispy sweet potato fries and home baked buns! I really can't wait to get back and try out a burger or 3.
Review Source:Just had a (gluten free bun) portabella burger with sweet potato fries here. Just by definition, this place is interesting. While they're very focused (burgers) they cover a very broad category of burgers themselves. In addition, it's a bakery at the same time. the menu's easy on the wallet, and I don't know what Andrew has against this place, but I like it.
Honestly, I will be coming back. It was clean, the waitress may have been new and still learning (so service kinda sucked a little), but how much service do you really expect when ordering a burger?
Overall it seems quite worthy of giving this place another chance and another taste.
The bakery selection is a little small but nice, and interesting.
Also, for people looking for this place? the map location is wrong. It's south of tower road.
Well, I have to admit that this is our "Thursday is crazy after work & school so let's eat out/take out" place. My teenage kids, husband and I love Everest burger! The beef is flavorful and juicy. I am not a turkey fan, but with so many choices of burgers, you can't go wrong there. My only complaint is the veggie burger, which tastes okay, but falls apart.
They have now included fries in their meals, which is a good move. These super fresh potatoes are cooked in rice oil and are delicious! I wouldn't mess with any of the cheese toppings - why ruin perfection?
The woman who runs this place is sweet and well meaning, and I love the emphasis on fresh, natural, local, but the awfulness of the product here is like a white elephant hanging over the entire village of Glencoe. The food is awful, and it's a matter of time before it closes. I'm sorry. Not hating. Not trying to be negative. I'm just telling it like it is. BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT YOU HAVE COME TO EXPECT FROM Â ME. Sorry, but I'm going to give this place an AVOID rating. If you want a good burger come see me on a personal level. Feel me?
Review Source:I'm very conscious about what I eat, so I was excited to give this place a try.
I was not disappointed!
I always get the Everest burger. I keep meaning to try other burgers, but I like this one too much.
I also love their salads. The greens are incredibly fresh, and their balsamic dressing is  amazing. I also like their parmesan fries and sweet potato fries (it would be nice if they were cut a bit thicker, but that's a minor issue).
The atmosphere is mellow and uplifting. Nice decor and great folk music playing.
Excellent service. You can tell that the people who own this place really put a lot of love into it. The staff are extremely pleasant. There's very few places like this in the area. I really appreciate it!
The burger tasted so juicy and "clean", and the fries were not greasy (although they were plentiful -- a burger/fry combo is large and could easily be two meals). I went in the late afternoon a few weeks ago and the place was very quiet but pleasant. Service was great -- quick, and the waitstaff asked if I needed anything twice (without being overbearing) and was gracious. I am actually going back there this afternoon, because I have been dreaming about having a healthy piece of ground beef (since I am picky about what I eat and don't eat beef that often) and Everest fits the bill. They also have a wide variety of types of burgers, so something is bound to please your palate. Thank you for the yummy food!
Review Source:Very few restaurants put forth as much effort as Everest Burger does. Great, friendly staff from the moment we walked in. They brought crayons over immediately and water without us asking for it; I noticed that they were smart/nice enough to give my 2.5 year old water without ice.
The food is reasonably priced compared to similar type restaurants and VERY reasonably priced when you factor in the grass-fed beef and organic everything. I will point out that fries are NOT included with the burger, but they were only $1.50 for a small (enough for two people), they were good, and there were 4 types to choose from. My 2.5 year old surprised us when he asked for a scrambled egg on his burger and they didn't even blink an eye; they were happy to accommodate him. He was so happy and he loved that his meal came in a paper car. I've never seen him eat his food so fast. He loved it and I loved that he was eating organic (burger, fries, and lemonade). Everything around my burger was very good, but the beef was a little light in flavor and small, but that is to be expected from grass-fed, hormone free beef so I was happy with my meal and I will go back. I was even impressed by the unexpected presentation; their pride is evident and appreciated.
I was extremely pleased with the whole experience. I went in with moderate expectations and they far exceeded them.
In summation:
Cons: fries are extra and organic beef doesn't have the flavor that fatty, hormone corn-fed beef does (not their fault) - I'm not sure this is enough to take away a star; I really wish I could give it 4.5 stars.
Pros: EVERYTHING ELSE in spades including, but not limited to BYOB, price, friendly staff, food, presentation, atmosphere, parking, attention to detail, kid friendly, and more.
SUPPORT LOCAL, ORGANIC RESTAURANTS LIKE THIS OR YOU'LL BE LEFT WITH NOTHING BUT LOW QUALITY, HORMONE LOADED OPTIONS.
I wish I could give this place 5 stars... but I cannot. As a vegan, finding restaurants is not easy. So I was excited when this place opened. But, the food is only "ok" and the fries are really greasy or over-fried. The burgers, the 4-5 times I have been there, have been almost raw.
I might say, well it is easy and convenient for me  and would go there more often, except they are REALLY OVERPRICED for what you get. To spend $18 for a very small burger (non-meat), less than average fries and a drink is ridiculous.
Sorry can't give it a better review...
we had a burger and a black bean burger. they were both very basic. sort of bland. you can't say it was bad, but just average. the fries were okay, but a bit too greasy and not enough fluffy "potato". liked that everything is organic there, but i did expect it to be better tasting. i say skip it.
Review Source:I had a Base Camp burger when my wife and I stopped there for a late dinner. Â I got mad when we were done eating and drove further down GB Road and seen all the other food places in Winnetka. Â
As far as burgers go, it was okay. Â Nothing to write home about. Â Actually, if I were to write home about a burger, I would just write to my wife and ask her throw a Bubba burger on the grill. Â I would have enjoyed it more. Â C'est la vie. Â We do a lot of running around the Chicago area and try several places. Â I'm chalking this one up to, tried it - won't be back.
I will give kudos to their Parmesan fries. Â Those were really good. Â =)
We had the walnut burger and it was delicious. Â The newspaper review was on the bean burger but the waitress recommended the walnut burger. Â My husband and I really enjoyed it. Â The bun was great also. Â The price was a bit high but the quality was so good, we would go back. Â Wish they had sweet potato fries and some other side dishes.
Review Source:I really enjoyed there large burger( about 10) and fry selection (Parmesan, Cajun, cheesy) Â Although the Everest burger is good, I recommend the Texas BBQ burger and Australian burger if you are looking to switch your burger up. I would def. recommend this place, however I would stay away from the chicken burgers-eh, tasted like a fake, pressed school lunch. It's a burger place, order some red meat.
All organic and local too.
I know how "jim a" felt. Â We tried Everest's carry-out the first week they were open and they got the entire order wrong. Â Plus the bag of fries turned into a soggy bag of worms by the time we got back. Â But, we are so eager for a good nearby burger, we tried it again today for lunch - and, it was simply great. Â Delicious burger, really fresh toppings and a bakery bun - even the ketchup was unusually tasty!
I cannot fault the staff for being linguistically challenged. Â Welcome to America. Â My grandparents didn't speak English well either. Â And, the Everest staff couldn't have been more hospitable. Â My thanks to them for a nice experience.
As a Hubbard Woods merchant, I welcome you to the neighborhood with open arms!
As someone who considers himself a burger aficionado, I think the burgers here are great! The first time in I had the namesake Everest burger and it was as tasty as they come. Now my second time in and I had the salmon Chimichurri burger and it had a delicate flavor that was not overpowering but really fresh.
I also had the regular fries once and the cheezy fries. The cheezy fries were definitely the best I've ever had and the regular fries were not regular but outstanding.
The service was ok the first time and better the second but could be improved. As for the one star reviews, all I can say is maybe they are friends of the other restaurants in town because what I ate and what they described are as far apart as could be!
We knew the people who started Guanajuato, the GREAT Mexican restaurant in the same mall, were opening up this gourmet hamburger restaurant, and we've been waiting to see if the food would be just as delicious. It was as good as I had hoped. I had the Australian burger, with an egg, pineapple and a beet on top. Yum!
Happy to report that Everest is a "must visit." I want to try everything on the menu. Also, my kids loved the raspberry vanilla swirl yogurt ice cream for dessert, and so did I!
had a craving for a burger and decided to check out this new spot. love the decor...walking in and seeing a mountain...wow! the place felt friendly and inviting and the owner was there with a welcoming smile.
for me, "organic" isn't the most  important factor when picking and staying with a restaurant...for me it is about "taste" and i think everest burger hits the mark.
our group had 4 burgers (the fiesta, the odysseus and the everest) and 1 of the vegetarian options (i think it was the brown rice/ walnut). we loved all of the them. all of our choices had great flavor, were not dripping with grease and the buns had just the right amount of "chew." but really let's talk "fries" YUMMY. to me this is the deciding factor on what makes a burger joint...GREAT and boy are they great!
i can't wait to go back and try the other combinations of burgers and the other flavors of fries. oh, yeah...save room for the frozen yogurt. it is outstanding!
if you don't want to "clog an artery" then this is the burger joint of choice. great flavor, love the options and all for a great price.
