Being white, I never had a problem here. My black and Hispanic friends have been called racist names here by patrons and It is definitely a redneck bar.
Also, they have never I.D'ed me.
The McKinneyville locals come here. I would avoid and either go to one of the many fine breweries in the area, or one of the other 3 bars
You have to take Everett's for what it is...a dark place to DRINK HARD LICKA'!!!! hahaha....you don't go to frickin' play foosball and look at hot chicks or whatever the fuck...you DRINK here! Â The lifelong alcoholics that hold the place up will look at you like dung if you've come here for any other type of business.
BTW, I LOVE the old guy that works (ed??) here!!! Â I came in one year for my birthday pub crawl and asked him what he thought I should get...are you ready???? (drum roll please!....)
CUM IN A HOT TUB!!! Â
Hahahhahahahahahahha!!!!! Â Apparently that old guy spends time at Cafe Mokka! Â
It was really good, although all I remember is that it had amaretto and SPLASH OF CREAM that kind of "suspended' in the drink...I have to say that the cream was the best part...hehehehee.
Every bar on 'Bar Row' has its place. Everetts is kind of an everymans bar after a certain hour. For afternoons and early evenings its for old locals, and the vibe is such. But later on its a little college, a little meat-market, a little red-neck/grower...The jukebox is good, as is the pool table. The outdoor back is good for the smokers. The bartenders are older, fast and to the point...dont give them shit. They have Oly tallboys....a plus. I like the windows, you can see if its what you want crowd-wise before you enter. Theres lots to look at! If its quiet you might ask to see the deer mount that moves!
Review Source:Good old fashion booze palace! Â This place serves em stiff and ruff. Â Not the type of place you come to for a mojito or martini. Â More of a whiskey on the rocks or beer type of spot. Â Cool diversed crowd that likes to get rowdy!
Quick Note: Â They have deer heads and other animals stuffed up on the walls all over the place, so if you or your date gets freaked out by the site of dead animals... Go somewhere else. Â They even have a bear. Â Also only 1 pool table that can get crowded on a busy night.
My new favorite bar in Arcata! We went out in the Arcata Plaza a couple nights and always seemed to end up here.
Friendly people and good bartenders. I loved the mellow vibe compared to the other bars nearby. There's usually a place to sit and relax and I love the dive-bar decor. Can't wait to come back!
I don't like bars. Â I don't like slutty chicks, I don't like loud hip-hop music, I don't like bartenders who look annoyed when I order a drink, I don't like paying too much for a drink with too little liquor in it. Â But I like Everett's. Â
It's dark and yes, there are animal heads all over the walls. Â It's awesome. Â The bartenders are quick-witted, snarky older ladies who know how to make a drink. Â I wouldn't quite call them friendly, but they have character. Â The people watching is priceless -- it's a more local, older crowd than some of the crappier bars on the plaza. Â
If you don't generally suck as a person, you'll like Everett's.
Attending HSU in the mid 90's, this was the bar that was off limits to students. When I recently returned to Arcata after a 12-year haitus, I had getting a drink at Everett's at the top of the list. Yay ... it was everything I expected! A variety of taxidermied wildlife on the wall (including a jackalope), old booths with saggy seats, older ladies mixing the drinks and a pool table. Strong drinks and fair prices, no attitude.
Review Source:Everett's is hands down my favorite bar in Arcata! Â As for the unhelpful man, that would be the owner. Â Locals in their 30's have stories about how they would walk in and not get served. Â It was strictly and logger bar. Â Some of the kids never gave up trying. Â Eventually they'd win him over. Â
He doesn't work at the bar so much anymore. Â His daughter has taken over day to day operation of the establishment.
Donna (my fave) and Betty (close runner up) are transplants from Toby & Jacks. Â Totally T & J's loss. Â They do an awesome spread for St. Patrick's Day. Â Thirsty Thursdays get your cheap microbrew on and a pint glass to boot!
I always prefer Everett's when HSU is on holiday (summer and winter break). Â It's just the locals and a few straggler college kids.
As for ambiance, this is classic dive all the way! Â I mean seriously, who doesn't love being in a room full of game heads!
I miss Everett's so much. I liked it because it never got crowded. I liked it because it had a good jukebox. i liked it because the bartenders were friendly. i loved it because it has an outdoor patio that i spent a good portion of 2003-2004 inhabiting with vodka tonics and sweet dreams cherry cigarettes in hand. I also put back many a pitcher with friends as we giggled histerically until we were good and drunk and ready for the stumble home ( a mere 2 blocks away) Despite my feelings of nostalgia, Everettes is just a cool bar. It's open and dark with animal heads and worn leather booth seats, a checkerboard floor, and a laid back dive bar feel. I wish i was there, or that it was here......
Review Source:Everett's is crying out to be used as a set in a David Lynch film. As one of the four main bars on the Arcata Plaza, Everett's stands alone in its unusual atmosphere and bar staff. The walls are adorned with dead animal head "trophies" every bit as stiff as the cocktails you'll consume. The combination of my two Maker's Mark and ginger-ales (was there ginger-ale in there really?) the dim lighting, the funky jukebox and my oh my - the extraordinarily self-expressed bartendress - made for an experience that was truly theatrical. I will spare the blog-like details but suffice to say more than one person's breath was held at a climactic moment.
Just go there and drink for yourself. It doesn't hurt to be really, really into absurdity and moments you couldn't possibly script out better than life itself. For real.
OMG, the old bartender here is just evil. The most unhelpful man ever! Â you ask him to think of a drink for you and he asks ..do you like rum... I said yes.. he recommends a rum and coke!.. wow.. thank god he helped me. this place is always dead... lame lame bar.. Â not even worth stepping into.
