I first went to Off Broadway 10 years ago because I'd read a newspaper article that said they served cans of Olympia for 50 cents, so I thought I'd check it out. Drove up to the place and the parking lot was empty (it was a Saturday night). I thought that was a little strange, but it got even stranger when I went in and the place was packed with homeless dudes, their bicycles lined-up against the wall.
Well, that solved the mystery of the empty parking lot: These bums were either too poor, or had too many DUIs to drive. I had one drink and got the hell out of there. (Note: The bartender was a scary older woman who looked like she could kick my ass, so I decided against ordering the can of Oly.)
I went back a couple years ago. Can't say the place has improved much. They do have a pool table and occasional live music. But this is  definitely the seedy side of Eureka (alright, no jokes from you Bay Area people now). Lots of dudes with missing teeth who look like they would stab you for looking at them the wrong way.
Three stars for cheap alcohol and an authentic Bukowski experience. Bring a buddy and watch your back.
