typical Famous Daves.. Same old interiors.
The BBQ - the pork wasn't as good as I have had at other locations. Â It needed a bit more seasoning and time in the smoker.
Brisket - good, well cooked and season
Sides - corn was well cooked and yummy
Service - average kept our drinks filled. they ended up over charging us for my wife's nachos, but I caught it after the bill was paid. Â They refunded and recharged us correctly.
Not many good BBQ options around here that I've found, so it'll suffice occasionally!
I give this place an "eh, shrug". It wasn't anything to write the press about. I looked at their menu online and had somewhat of an idea of an appetizer, but when we got there they didn't have it. The menu changed over a year ago and the website is still living in the past I guess. The server suggested the Onion Straws. They were a big pile of grease. We tried all of the different sauces on them which were very hood and flavorfull. I had the BBQ once at the Rib fest downtown, and I thought it was great, so I wanted to go to the actually restaurant. However, I was less than impressed. I got the brisket. I asked the server when it was sliced (very thin, I might add) and she said it was sliced to order. It was dry and didn't seem fresh at all. It was so salty (even for me, a salt fanatic) it tasted like it had been soaked in beef flavoring and liquid smoke. It didn't have much marbling to it or much of anything I was expecting out of a well done brisket. The corn muffin that comes with the meal was good. I also got their special mac-n-cheese with jalapenos, fresh corn, and four cheeses. It wasn't anything special at all. Not a lot of flavor. For the description, I think they could do much better.
Overall, the atmosphere was cool and exactly was you would think a BBQ place would feel like.
We got the "famous" bread pudding to try. The praline sauce was great. The icecream was great. The actual bread pudding was not good. It was made with too much cream...which didn't cook out and it was very soggy and mushy.
So, whatever...I might try it again for the ribs or wings. I don't think I'd venture too far away from that though. Beer and BBQ for me next go around and I'll write another review. Some advice for ole' Dave...you can't do BBQ without doing a great brisket. Work on it!
Cheers!
One of the best BBQ if been to in a while. Now Im not a rib fan but their St Louis Rib tips are amazing. They have a great lunch special that they also honor during dinner... it includes two meats a side and a cornbread muffin  FOR $8.99. I must not forget the pickeled red onions and sweet pickels. I lovvvveeeee this BBQ  great prices....huge variety
Review Source:This is for the Famous Dave's off of Michigan Road. Â I couldn't find this location on Yelp! Â This was our first time to a Famous Dave's - they do not have them in Fort Wayne, IN. Â Our server, Shawnda, was very helpful and explained everything and even brought us some bbq chips for us to use to taste all of the sauces. Â My son and I shared the sampler for 2, which included ribs, brisket, chicken, beans, potatoes, and corn bread. Â Everything was so tender and flavorful. Â Shawnda forgot to bring my bowl of wild rice soup, but admitted the mistake and asked if I still wanted it. Â I didn't, but it was professional of her to awknowledge that she had made the mistake. Â The next time I will subsitute the baked beans for something else, as i am not a big fan of baked beans in general. Â They will substitute the sides for whatever you would like - very nice since some restaurants will not let you substitute. Â We will definately be back and we are in Indy often - yay! Â I am a big fan and Shawnda did a good job, even though she was pretty busy.
Review Source:As far as BBQ places go, I feel like Famous Dave's is great.
I came in with a large group, and the service was excellent! Most places panic when you tell them you need tables pushed together for a party of 18. (We've all seen that look before.) The staff at Famous Dave's does not. As far as my experience goes, they are great for large groups.
If it's your first go-around at Famous Dave's, be sure and sample all the barbecue sauces you find on your table. They range from sweet and mild to Wilbur's Revenge. Fair warning: if you've ever had Blazin' at Buffalo Wild Wings, Wilbur's Revenge is much hotter. Make sure you have something to drink before trying it. On second thought, request a second glass of water before trying it. I love spicy food, but Wilbur's Revenge was so hot that it made me laugh uncontrollably. You have been warned!
Food-wise, Dave's is really good. Their sweet cornbread is great, as is the somewhat-spicy mac 'n cheese. I got the fried chicken, which comes with yet another kind of barbecue sauce that you won't find in the vast variety of sauces in tubes on your table. It complemented the rest of the dish well.
In my opinion, Texas Roadhouse has better food; however, my first experience was a positive one. Should I have the opportunity in the future, I'll be back!
Went tonight for Valentines day and it was an amazing experience. My boyfriend and I do not have one complaint. We had the Feast for two and the meal was great! Like we read the mac n cheese was delicious along with everything else :) our waitress Krissy was very nice and seemed to know what she was talking about. My boyfriend is a rib guy and said they were the best he's had. I am a chicken girl and I will definitely be back for some more! Keep it up will be back very soon :D
Review Source:I've been here twice (once to-go) and have enjoyed both meals. Â My roommate and I usually share "The Big Slab" that include 12 large ribs, cornbread, corn, and two side choices for $21.99. Â Don't miss out on the cornbread. Â It's always good. The corn-on-the-cob is pretty gross, they need to find a new way to cook it. Â And out of the six side items that I've tried (macaroni & cheese, firecracker green beans, coleslaw, potato salad, mashed potatoes, and seasoned broccoli), I would have to recommend the broccoli, potato salad, and coleslaw. Â Mostly, they're pretty unimpressive.
The nice thing about dining-in is the availability of the all the bbq sauces at your table. Â My personal preference is the "Sweet & Zesty." Â But when you have a carry-out order, the only ones available are the "Rich & Sassy" and "Devil's Pit." Â It's still ok, since both are good.
The Ribs are great, the service is good, and the Mac&Cheese is the best.  As far as BBQ in Indianapolis Famous Dave's is very good.  The service is fast and the he ribs are always very tasty, but the highlight most days is the Mac&Cheese.  They throw some jalapeno's in and some other seasinings  and it is just fantastic.  Make sure you order it as a side if you go.
Review Source:So I went on a dinner date with a friend. They talked me into going here. So I figured why not. I remembered the last time I really loved their food. Okay I ordered the rib basket again & a side of amazing green beans with onions bacon & crushed red peppers. I was impressed by the moment & the food. We get to the dessert part. I'm thinking if their food taste this good then I can't wait to see what the desserts are going to taste like. The waiter came & I ordered the Better than your grandma's Georgia pecan pie. It came with a dollop of vanilla bean ice cream. My friend ordered the Kahlua brownie. well when we received our desserts. I took a couple of bites & was trying to figure out what was the pie trying to accomplish. Finally after dipping in with the ice cream it started to come together. My friend on the other hand was not impressed. They had to re order a different dessert because the brownie was dry, although the claim the soaked it in Kahlua it wasn't moist at all. So the waiter bought out the key-lime pie. Well unfortunately my friend wasn't a fan of that neither. When it comes to food my friend is not easily impressed. So I guess I had to take my friend's word on this one. Although I'm not jumping for joy over the pecan pie, it really wasn't all that bad.
As a follow up since I have never ate the dessert until now, they need  to probably brush up on the baking skills as far as desserts are concerned. Other than that, they got the rib business on lock. We had a booth because I knew that I would probably have to nurse my baby. There was a nosy couple sitting across from us & the man kept starring so I had to turn my body towards the window before I felt comfortable. So finally the lady asked me how old he was. I guess she felt the stares of her mate & wanted to break the awkwardness. I have nursed all of my children except one & never felt uncomfortable until this happened. She was really nice, but her significant other, needed to be reminded he came for BBQ, not boobies. I'm always covered to to keep modest, but he had me convinced he had x-ray vision or something.
My final suggestions, going back to when we first arrived it took about 5 minutes before someone came to wait on us. Usually when I come here there's always someone at the front desk to wait on you. So my friend's first impression wasn't good, but the food more than made up for that. The waiter himself was GREAT & so was the tip that I left him. Â Looks like Famous Dave's gets another good review from me again!
This place is OK, but nothing to get dizzy and start drooling over. The food portions aren't big and the prices are a little too much for what you get. Service is OK.....depends on which person is your waiter. Overall, if you want BBQ and a choice of what kind of sauce you get on your meat, it is a good place but you won't leave thinking you ate the whole cow.
Review Source:Love their portions! Â Good, friendly staff. Â Food is a little slow coming out of the kitchen but if you're lucky you're waiter/waitress will give you a sampling of their french fries to try out with the assorted sauces. Â Love their pulled pork and their ribs. Â Good flavor. Not the absolute best I've had but well worth the trip!
Review Source:My family and I are pretty much regulars here! I always have a chat with "JD" the manager while we wait on our food, you could say he's like a friend of our's since we have been coming here, great guy! The food is EXCELLENT, and I don't think we have ever had bad service here. They have a nice selection of bbq sauces to choose from. I have tried one of their burgers and it was very good! Love the sides you get with the meals and the cornbread is great! If you haven't been here yet, what are you waiting for?
Review Source:I've never had a bad experience at Famous Dave's  The waiters are attentive without being annoying and always have a smile on their face.  The food is always delicious, and the meat just falls off the ribs.
I've been here maybe 5 or 6 times and each time, the service and food quality is consistent. Â Great place to eat, if you like meat.
I recently ate there and while my experience wasn't that great, I'm willing to give it another shot. I ordered their "Texas Beef Brisket". It basically was brisket, potato wedges, a piece of corn on the cob, and a corn muffin. Now, the brisket was a little too smokey for me. It was tender, but the smokey flavor was a little to tangy for me so much so that it hits your sinuses a few seconds later after each bite. I don't know if they use liquid smoke or something, but just a little too smokey flavoring. The potato wedges were good, but there was the occasional hard edge one that kills your teeth when you bite into them. The corn cob and corn muffin were good though. But honestly, their brisket was not that much different than the brisket you get from Smokey Bones BBQ. I'll give them one more shot, but I've had better BBQ.
