Our company rented a room here for an evening social event - lots of very good appetizers, plenty of Billiard tables, sand volleyball courts out back, and a decent sized bar. Staff were very friendly and helpful! It's a little farther away from the rest of town, but they seem to have the space to make up for that.
Review Source:Don't let the one star fool you. If I could give the Gastropub no stars I would.
The food is horribly mediocre. If I wanted to eat food purchased from the frozen food section of the local grocery store, then well... I'd go to the frozen food section and buy it myself.
Ordered the meatball sandwich with chips and it was a lukewarm travesty. Pretty sure they just popped open a jar of generic pasta sauce and drizzled it over frozen pre-cooked meatballs.
This place has no business calling itself a gastropub. There is nothing innovative or exciting about the food they serve here. If you're planning on an evening shooting pool, make sure you eat before you arrive.
Held an event here last Saturday for my Meetup group.
Had a great server (Taylor) who was constantly in-and-out of the room making sure that myself and my 20ish guests were taken care of. Â It was very much appreciated.
I made sure to get pool balls for the two tables in the room and both were occupied for the time we had the room.
The room was clean when I arrived and was comfortable and pleasant. Â I am thankful to all who were able to come out.
I went here for the first time last night. Â I was very pleased with the food. Â The service was good, but I wouldn't call it friendly.
I went with two friends. Â One ordered the jambalaya, the other ordered the walleye and I ordered a chili burger (don't judge, it was a craving). Â We also split a single Bavarian pretzel as an appetizer.
The place was quiet and clean. Â The bar was pretty full, so we sat in the dining area by the front door. Â Service was prompt - our drinks were always full. Â One of my friends ordered a hard apple cider. Â It sounded good, so I ordered one later. Â The waitress looked at me like I was an idiot. Â I shrugged and told her it sounded good. Â In the most sarcastic voice she could muster she told me "It tastes like apple juice." Â No shit. Â I never would have known that my hard APPLE cider would taste like apple juice. Â Thank you for the education!
Anyway, the food was great. Â The Bavarian pretzel was awesome, but next time I will get my own and keep it from my friends. Â Yes. Â It was that good.
The jambalaya was pretty bland, and, while the menu says there is chicken and endouille sausage in it, we never did find any sausage. Â But, it was still tasty.
My chili burger was great. Â The burger had a good beefy flavor and the chili was good. Â The onion rings were excellent.
Not being one for fish, I didn't try the walleye. Â It looked good. Â For fish.
Anyway, I will go to "Billiards" again.
Billards? Â Absolutely. Â Gastropub? Â Not exactly. Â More of a gastrodud. Â
I tried the bacon wrapped jalapeño poppers and the sweet strawberry bacon burger.  The poppers were not very good.  Way too much batter--more batter than filling.  A much lighter batter and breading would make these so much better.
The sweet strawberry bacon burger sounds exciting. Â I imagined a burst of salty sweet goodness with my first bite. Â The combination is creative and could work, but the burger and bun failed. Â The uniform thickness of the burger tasted exactly as we suspected, i.e. a frozen patty. Â The bun was very dry. Â The bacon was under cooked and lacked flavor. Â I was expecting fresh strawberries and was disappointed to see it topped with strawberry glaze with a couple chunks of strawberries. Â The cheddar cheese on this burger is a complete miss. Â They should try either goat cheese or a gorgonzola with a fresh hand packed patty, fresh strawberries, crispier bacon and a good bun.
Service was fine, but it took a long time to get the attention of the waitress to pay. Â Beer selection is decent. Â We also watched another tables order sit under the warming lights for upwards of 10 minutes before it was served. Â With so many better places to eat in Fargo/Moorhead I will not return to this place.
You can't get much better than the fare at Fargo Billiards and Gastropub. Locally owned and the menu reflects it. There aren't gimmicks or the cut and paste you'll find at chain restaurants, but a great selection of whatever your taste buds desire. Try the pizza or the jalapeno poppers - either one will keep you coming back.
The atmosphere is actually quite classy. No need to yell over a thundering jukebox (they don't even have one!) and while there are plenty of TVs around to watch the game, you don't have to sit and listen to it. The tables are comfortable and if you want to go a step further, try the sofa chairs found in the lounge or the coffee bar area. They are perfect for sitting around and chatting over a drink.
On one of my visits a staff member suggested I try a game of billiards (since it is the largest billiard hall in the western hemisphere) and when I told her that I didn't really play, she was quick to introduce me to a manager who talked me through the game and gave me a few pointers. Since then, I have returned a few times and played for a couple of hours.
I also suggested Fargo Billiards and Gastropub as a location for a company party and everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, enjoyed themselves. We got some great food, exceptional service and some recreation.
I highly recommend this local establishment. They have free music without a cover, a wide selection of beers and wines, a fully stocked bar with items you won't find anywhere else in Fargo and a comfortable atmosphere that is very welcoming.
PS - I have also made frequent post-bar-close stops there for food, since their kitchen is open late.
The two times I visited Fargo Billiards, it was relatively quiet - and yet, the service was slow and inattentive. The servers seemed to be more interested in chatting with the cooks than paying attention to the ONE table in the restaurant section. The Reuben wasn't bad, though it definitely could have used more sauerkraut and 1,000 Island. The fries, however... Oddly, half of the fries were cooked throughout - and the other half were still half raw. The ones that were cooked throughout were quite tasty, as house-made fries should be. The half raw ones, though... Those were a bit disappointing.
The second time, I wanted to get some information and ended up standing at the front counter for five minutes before someone walked up - only to be pretty well ignored. Five minutes AFTER that, someone finally walked up and helped me.
