An awesome place to go see a concert. I've been twice and have been lucky enough to sit in the pavilion. I'm sure lawn seats are cool but if you don't mind dishing out the dough go for the seats.  The only issue you may deal with is some douchebag standing up when everyone else is sitting down.

One thing I like is that they have two big screens so you can catch the action live or watch the TV screens from time to time as if you're at home watching TV. The best part is catching the cool breeze especially on a hot summer night.

Plan to leave before the last song or you'll spend an hour trying to leave. I parked on the left side of the main gate area and found parking easy to find and leaving very easy!

Eat and pregame beforehand!!! A bottled water is $4.50. Beers are north of $6/7. Yikes!!!

Went here last April to see Ted Nugent, REO Speedwagon, and STYX

Had a great time!!  Good acoustics for an outdoor stadium.  Friendly, helpful staff working at the venue.  Would come again.

Food and drink prices are RIDICULOUS!!!!!! $5 for a regular bottle of sprite. $4.50 for water. $13 beers. Absolutely absurd.
    But I love the Venue.

Concerts here usually come off flawlessly. They do a really great job of setting up sound and visuals for anyone playing there. I have seen and heard some really great shows here.
Food and drinks are over-priced as to be expected. The bathrooms are plentiful and somewhat clean.
When you get seats close to the stage you are packed in like sardines and everyone ends up standing anyway.
I am much more comfortable on the lawn. You get to enjoy hanging out with your friends, dance, sit, lay, stand - whatever you want. I've always had a good time at this venue.

My favorite concert venue! Surpasses any dome or arena i've been to. This place has seats in the front half of the amphitheater, and a big hill called the "lawn section" for the upper hall of the seating section.
The lawn section is the cheapest but honestly the most fun. Bring your blanket, or fold out chair to watch the concert. It's an awesome atmosphere because everyone is sharing the  floor, usually drunk, and having a party. There are beer & food kiosks at the top of the hill.
I prefer to bring an oversize blanket AND chairs to mark my spot kinda like when in a packed beach. :)
The concerts are rain or shine so be prepared. In cases where they have space, when it rains, they sell the tickets to the bottom level seats for a deal.

Ive seen most of my concerts here. Lots of artists stop here. Its a great time.
Drinks are as pricey as you'd expect them to be at a concert.

This is a good venue for many stars to thrown down an enchanting evening.

I had the pleasure of sitting front row on 7/14/2012 to Miss Stevie Nicks and I have to say that her booming voice just echoed through the entire venue.  It was such a great evening and I have to say that the restrooms are filthy and 14.00 for a beer is just ridiculous, especially when you have a sign up that says beer will be served at discounted rates after 10:00pm.

The one complaint that I have was that the seats are so small and there was noise overhead from air crafts.  You could totally hear planes taking off and landing.  Thank God they did it while Vanessa Carleton was on and not during Stevie's set.

All in all, a good outdoor venue but the stage seems awful high.  Maybe it was just me.....Nah, that thing is way too high.  LOL

I agree with Vanessa G. that this is an awesome venue for concerts!! The lawn is the best place to sit. It is open, fun, and a nice big space to listen to great music. The only thing that stinks is at 11 the sound diminishes on the lawn because of Virginia Beach's noise ordinance law.

The drinks and food are the typical price of a music venue. You can bring your own blanket and chairs to sit on the lawn. The venue is easy to get to but hard to get out of. I would plan for a hour leave time.

If you get to go to a concert here definitely go you will not be disappointed!

Typical amphitheater, I recommend any VIP access or parking, its worth it. Beer prices are high but they have a decent selection. All staff was polite and helpful.

Although this venue has undergone a few different names since I have lived in Virginia Beach, it's all the same to me. It's a great place to hold kick ass concerts! I love that major festivals and like Mayhem and Vans Warped Tour have come here. Lunatic Luau's  are held here by FM99 and that I was able to see A Perfect Circle here. The staff has always been friendly to me and some of the people working here I have seen for years. My biggest problem is the same problem I have with any concert venue, the price of terrible food and beer. At least now they have a few premium beers instead of just Bud and Coors like in the past. At $14 a cup for a premium beer though they can keep it! I'll buy a 12 pack the day before and have it ready for when I get home from the show. That aside, It is a good venue that is laid out pretty good with good acoustics. I enjoy seeing shows here.

I have come to find that Virginia, as a whole, is a beautiful place. Virginia Beach's amphitheater is by no means an exception. By living in Indianapolis, I'm familiar with the concert venue in Noblesville. The atmosphere at Farm Bureau Live made me feel like I was back at home. Even the setting of the stage looked the same. Sometimes familiarity can be comforting, you know? The luscious, rolling trees in the background was a sure giveaway, though, that we were not in Indiana. We were only a few miles from the beach and enjoyed a great venue the city has to offer.

We were there for a DMB concert. Great show, by the way. The lighting, sound and energy was perfect and fitting. We were able to get tickets only a few hours before the show, so that was nice.  I've only been to Virginia Beach twice, but I do know that it's in a great location to other city highlights. I would most definitely go there for another show. Everyone needs a good place to scream (or sing?)  their lungs out.

Came through to check out Jill Scott's Block Party in late August. Prices were pretty affordable but, on this particular evening...it rained. When I say it rained....I had a huge pout on my face. Who wants to take that long journey from the parking lot to the Amphitheater in the rain? I felt bad for those who brought lawn seats...but, luckily the staff was able to accomodate them all in empty seats....

Ooooo word to the wise...Pre game before you come here....Beer was $9...yeah NO...I dont pay that in Vegas!!

I usually don't go to Amphitheater because of the ridiculously high prices of admission and food/drinks. I do enjoy the concerts if I am seating in the seats vs the lawn although it seems like the parties are a lot more fun on the lawn. The Jet noises during the concert are ANNOYING and always come during the songs I really want to hear!!! :( I do have to admit if you are with the right crowd and the right bands, it is enjoyable. Otherwise, I seen better places to watch really good shows. I miss the Boathouse and the original 15th St, Peppermint Beach Club :(

It's nice to have a major concert venue in town.  I remember before the amphitheater was built, it seemed like no big time bands and music groups ever came close to Virginia Beach.  There just wasn't a venue that was worth it for a band like U2 or a rapper like Jay-Z to come to our little city. But with the amphitheater we can finally get some big names playing in a monster sized stadium all of our own.  An outdoor venue, the amphitheater is split into two sections: a covered portion with seats and an uncovered grassy area known as the lawn.  The view is good from most all areas, and there are big screen televisions broadcasting the concert for those with the cheap lawn seats.  Although I still find that some of today's hottest acts don't get booked at the amphitheater, they do have a nice selection of concerts to keep you entertained and grooving.

It is fine as an amphitheater goes, but what was a bit annoying is that jet kept flying overhead the ENTIRE show. Don't get me wrong, I'm a military family and I love jet noise, but the venue just happens to be en route between Fentress and Oceana (I think that is the right flight path).

Just went to Va Beach Amphitheater on Tuesday for the Dave Matthews Band show. Just wanted to share with everyone that the beers there (draft) are $10, the cans of beer, which are just a little bit bigger than draft, are $11. I just wanted to tell you now so that you can mentally prepare yourself for the financial havoc this will reek upon your life before the next concert. Cheers!

Seen one amphitheater, seen them all. This one is pretty much just like the ones I've been to in Raleigh and DC/Maryland. The venue in Virginia Beach for larger acts and festivals that come through the area.

If it's a band you really want to see, pay for the seats. It costs a lot more, but with lawn tickets, you'll just be watching the band on the overhead screens all night. The lawn is good, if you're just into chilling and not a huge fan of whoever is playing. Though, the weather in Virginia Beach is always unpredictable. You are chancing getting rained on out there on the lawn.

Drinks and concessions are ridiculous expensive. Goes with the territory, I guess. Bathrooms are large with lots of stalls and usually there are no lines (even for the ladies).

The bad news: parking and traffic control. First off, there is a parking fee tacked on to every ticket price. Doesn't seem fair since most of us carpool to the show. Also, you need to be heading there over an hour before the show if you want to make it before start time. You'll be sitting in traffic on Princess Anne Road for a good 45 minutes waiting to get to the parking lot. Exiting takes even longer. Sometimes an hour or more, just to break out of the parking lot gridlock.

If the band is good, you won't care about the cost and inconvenience. Nothing beats a great show.

A ginormous amphitheater is a ginormous amphitheater is a ginormous amphitheater. This one's about as good any other one I've been to.
The nice thing about it being built in Virginia Beach is that it gave us a mega venue for big shows that only used to come to the Hampton Coliseum. It has since replaced the Coliseum as the stop of choice for larger tours.
That said, when there's a major performer coming to town that I want to see, I always hope said performer will be appearing at the more intimate nTelos Pavilion in Portsmouth. I think it's a more relaxing and accessible place to see a show.
I have seen some really good shows at Verizon Wireless--Lenny Kravitz, John Fogerty and John Mellencamp, Kiss. I also got to drink a beer with Joan Jett on her tour bus there once, which kicked ass. Here's my thing with big amphitheaters: Unless you're just really uncomfortable sitting on the ground, don't waste your money on seats. Most of the time you end up being far away anyway, so much so that you might as well be watching the concert on TV.
At least on the lawn, you can sprawl out and chill or twirl around like a hippie or whatever it is you do.
The obvious exception to this rule is when and if you feel like shelling out big bucks for seats right up front.

This place is a generic corporate shed that makes going to a concert more like an evening at the movies. Overpriced reserve seating ruins the party atmosphere. Of course you can watch the show from the lawn, but it still doesn't have that general admission feeling and the performers look like gnats from that distance. Even worse, is that the music volume on the lawn is so low, that you don't even have to raise your voice to speak to someone. It is a terrible venue and should be torn down. Bands need to start taking their shows back to the fan friendly Hampton Coliseum. Sadly the local promoter will have none of that, because then they couldn't gouge you for gold circle seating and such.

Maybe it would be better if they reversed things. Have the lawn down in front of the stage and put the seats in the rear. That way the people who want to sit on their butts and be lame can do so, and those who want to rock and have a great time don't have to do it from a mile away.

Edit: I can't help but laugh at the review by Carnelia G. No offense meant towards Carnella, but the Hampton Coliseum was once held in high regard with musical performers big and small, and still is. U2 sold the place out, and before this crappy shed was built in Va. Beach, we got a lot more major acts performing in the area than we do now. Your memory must be faded, or your just too young to remember. Our area gets passed over by major tours more often now, than ever before. Thing is, it's not the venues, it's our crappy local concert promoters who refuse to take the financial risk. In reality, the Va. Beach shed is too big for our market. It rarely sells out, and our market is more of a draw for the nine to ten thousand tickets sold range, than it is for the twenty thousand capacity this crappy shed can handle.

Well, it was 2005.  Coldplay was coming to town.  Yes, they are my favorite artists - third, only to Sade & Bob Marley.  I was so excited - I did not care how many hours I had to drive to see them perform.  It was all worth it!!! I had seating, but the people on the grass didn't seem like they were enjoying the concert any less than I was.  Spectacular, spectacular - for an outdoor music venue.
