Discovered The Field on St. Patrick's Day. Â I had a wonderful time. Â Party really got going after 5pm. Â I have returned a few times since. Â I don't go fot the food. Â Although, it isn't bad. It's decent food at a fair price. Â I go for the atmosphere and the beer which is great. Â I don't usually order dessert. Â But I see them being delivered to other diners and they are beautiful and look delicious. Â The staff and patrons are very friendly. Â It can get a little loud if you sit in the area behind the band. Â There is a separate room for those who want a quiet dinner.
Review Source:Very authentic Irish Restaurant/Pub (very dark and homey inside). Â All of the dishes I've tried, Druken Chicken, Bangers and Mash, Sheppard's Pie, and Fish and Chip were excellent. Â We have brought several out of town guests here for dinner and they all loved it as well.
Go on a Wednesday night and see the "Hot Rod" show. Â He is the closest thing you will get to Rod Stewart! Â Great show. Â ( I note that during the "season" (Nov - Mar), the Canadian and Northerners love this place and especially on Wednesday night so you might want to get there a little early to secure a good seat near the "stage". Â Service is a little slow during the show because it is so busy.
Super nice, dark atmosphere. We were greeted immediately. The potato soup was incredible.I wanted to try the Bangers&Mash to say I tried a traditional dish and I regret it. It tasted like a breakfast sausage with plain mashed potatoes and gravy. However their Fish & Chips was delicious and I highly recommend the Bread Pudding w/ Cinnamon Ice Cream.
Review Source:The place has a really cozy environment, a bit dark and warm feeling. We sat inside since we had are 2 year old and the waitress wad very nice but quickly became  very busy so we were slightly ignore. My wife's plate  was great!! Mine, not as good :(. I order the beef stew which had a lot if flavor but was weak in beef! The beer was great!! Over all, a good experience, I recommend to sit outside and enjoy the drinks!!
Review Source:This is our go to restaurant. We've had couples dinners, family dinners, birthdays here, you name it. Always delicious and a huge success.
The beers are great, the service is good, and the food is excellent. I recommend you order the bread (though they bring you a small loaf with some dishes) and the Field burger. Yum! Everything is good, so you can't really go wrong.
The entertainment is great too, but depending on the night you might want to sit further away from the band if you want a more 'intimate' meal as it can get a bit loud. Enjoy!
My wife and I went for drinks and dinner (in that order) on Tuesday the 27th of November at just after 17:00. This was during happy hour so the drinks were discounted. How much? I have no idea. I take it they were half off or close to it. Craft beers came out to an average of about $3.50. I had a Sorachi Ace, Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale, and a Pyramid Hefeweizen. No Miller Lite or Bud here. It's a nice change of pace. Don't get me wrong. I love the cheap beer. Heck, my favorite beer is PBR. And I love shit-hole dive bars. But I also enjoy a different setting to mix things up a bit. On a related note, whiskey lovers, rejoice! The land of milk and honey lies before you! My wife pointed out a couple of gentlemen seated across the bar who had ordered Macallan whisky. I forget if it was 10 or 12 years. I said, "An excellent choice." As my eyes are traveling back to my drink, they happen to gloriously land on a bottle of ... drum roll ... Laphroaig 10 Years. I almost started sobbing with great big tears of joy. Just as PBR is my favorite beer, Laphroaig is my favorite non-bourbon whisky. My wife, as usual, looked at me with the I-married-a-man-kid smile. No less than 3/4 of the top bar shelf was lined with good whiskey, ranging from blended Scotch to bourbon.
Food is pricey but we'll worth it. The quality is tops. Word of warning: be careful with the fish and chips. The offering is with either one or two pieces (cod). Each piece is about the size of a whole fish - no kidding. If you're hungry, trust me, ask for one piece, unless you plan on sharing, in which case, two pieces would be a good idea.
You lose track of time in there. The exposed wood beams, wooden bar, wood floor, wood stools, etc. are all dark. Lights are dimmed just enough to make it feel cozy in there no matter the time of day. Not sure how the tables are as far as comfort and room since my wife and I like to sit at the bar. There is a large, secluded, rounded booth in the back corner of the restaurant. It looks like a cool spot for a group to grab some drinks and chow. The place was quiet when we went. However, I've read it gets a little happening on the weekends.
My family loved The Field. Â The food was delicious. We had the mussels, potato soup, corned beef and cabbage, cabbage rolls, everyone cleaned their plates. Â We did hit on a busy night, so service was slow. Â But they were aware of it and tried to give us free dessert. Had to pass on the free dessert, we couldn't have eaten another bite! The atmospere is great too. Love the banyan tree.
Review Source:I find myself indulging in a few snake bites on the outside patio of the The Field more often than I would publicly like to admit....ah hell...who am I kidding?!??? I have no qualms about admitting it...b/c The Field ROCKS. Tuesday... Beatles night???? YES PLEASE (and thank you). The live Irish music is always enjoyable as well and when there's not a live band they often choose winners like my personal faves Mumford & Sons. The staff is so friendly. And the food is delicious. Try the Mussels and the Drunken Chicken...you won't regret it.
Magical place.
We've been fans of The Field for over ten years and we still love, love, love this place!
Authentic Irish music, great decor, friendly vibe, and the food is always fresh and well prepared.
I would give them five stars, but have to agree with other reviewers that the service can be uneven. Once you are seated they are always friendly and quick with your order though. Try the chicken pot pie, any daily special, the burgers and the whiskey bread pudding - all good!
Check it out. You won't be disappointed!
I have been here lots. I used to live about 2 min away and came consistantly. My personal favorite was the Field Burger and the steak fries! Mm mm mmm.. Â Followed by the bread pudding makes for a fantastic lunch. The outside area is great for relaxing with the rolly tables and the friendly atmosphere. I love it. The inside is great and has an awesome feel but I prefer to be outside (at any restaurant). The waitress aren't the best but they are certainly up to par in my opinion. Parking can be a bit hit or miss.
Review Source:I can't believe I didn't know about this place sooner! Â I came here with my group of gals for dinner. Â The ambiance was awesome - there was a band playing Irish music, which I really enjoyed. Â The beers were cold, and the food was slammin'. Â I got the chicken pot pie, and it is a definite must! Â It was a bowl of white meat chicken and veg, topped with a puff pastry crown.
Everyone loved their food, and overall we had a great time. Â Can't wait to go back and introduce more people to this place =]
I love The Field. Tuesdays are best with the beatles, but I like it anytime. It's a place I can wear a ball cap and sensible shoes and just hang out without having every guy in the place hit on me. Nice big portions and I love the bread! Parking can be tricky. But  a fun place overall.
Review Source:OMG, Great fish and chips. In history, this was referred to as a poor man's meal and today, it is definitely not.
Just delicious, I can only imagine the rest of the food.
Great irish atmosphere. Dark and dim. Even in the light of the day, once you step in its dark and cozy. Nice irish guy who worked the bar. I believe he was owner or something. It has a mixture of, Library/cottage/frodo's hut from the movie "lord of the rings." Everything looks foresty brown :)
Will definitely be returning, I tried it out because it had so many great yelp reviews.
Ive heard the live band is great from friends. And it's the most fancied place of my friend too.. :)
After seeing some great reviews my family and I stop by  for lunch and was disappointed with their customer service. Stood there for about 10 minutes and no one came to greet us to be seated. Employees walked by us and avoid eye contact. Try to get their attention but was ignored. Sunday afternoon and the place was not busy so I didn't understand why the poor customer service. Never going back to that place again.
Review Source:I've been to The Field several times and have never had a bad time. Â The quanity and quality of the food is always awesome. Â I have enjoyed the Shepard's Pie, Corned Beef and Cabbage and the Grouper on different occasions of course. Â All were super yummy. Â I love the veggies that came with the Grouper.
The staff is always friendly and service is prompt. Â My absolute favorite is the entertainment. Â It's always great and most of the time you can sing along. Â The Rod Stewart impersonator is awesome!
My only complaint is that the a/c needs to be cooler!
After reading all the great reviews I decided to give this place a try. There were three things that did not disappoint me during this experience: 1. The Decor, comfy cottage style, I loved it. 2. The Hostess was SO friendly. 3. The Bread Pudding..it just wasn't disappointing. Oh WAIT, I lied..The Potato Soup was also very good.
Everything else was a total drag. I'm not even sure who our server was because there were two of them...and one wasn't even wearing a uniform? Weird. Anyways, they took our order, potato soup, shepherds pie and chicken pot pie. It took a while to come out..however we waited, empty glasses and everything. Finally the food came out. Mine tasted like it was OLD, the puff pastry was more like puffed cardboard and it just tasted like it was made a long time ago. My b/f's shepherds pie was literally so HOT that he didn't even get to eat it until after I was finished..and his took was, well, old tasting. I don't know if we just came on the wrong day at the wrong time or what but I don't have ANY desire to go out and eat old food that is overcooked and just not good. I ordered a coffee and he ordered the bread pudding. The server brought out two coffees? Then about 15 minutes later she came up to us and said "Please tell me you got your bread pudding?" Um. No. How about you please tell us why it's taking 15 minutes to get it..I was already finished my coffee so there goes the idea of coffee and dessert. She brought it out finally..because she probably just needed to actually PLACE the order.
My first impression of this place when I walked in was OMG LOVE, I even talked about having my birthday dinner there..and then we experienced the service..and the food and I must say..BOO.
Oh well.
I had two meals at The Field while at a wedding in the Lauderdale area just a few weeks ago. The first being dinner on Friday and then breakfast on Sunday morning.
I love the atmosphere of this place. It's like you are transported to Ireland while inside this pub. My Bangers and Mash were fantastic, as was the Irish breakfast that I had on Sunday.
I love the use of old wine barrels as small tables for two, as well as the plethora of indoor or outdoor seating.
The Field is a definite stop for anyone visiting South Florida that needs a break from the typical restaurant scene.
The Field is a surprising and refreshing escape from your typical South Florida restaurant and bar. It is charming. It feels like you have been transported to Ireland to someone's house or an old local pub. It is in a slightly odd location, along the busy Griffin Road, not too far from the turnpike, but you can't miss it since it is the only business with a huge tree growing out of it.
On the weekend, there is a delightful Irish band that plays live music... it is a bit loud, but there is a quieter dining room if you prefer to talk to your date. The beer selection is enormous, but since I am not a beer fan, I usually get a hard cider or a standard mixed drink.
The food is awesome- really unexpectedly so! The Irish Potato Soup is creamy, rich, and delicious. I have also had their grilled fish, which was tasty and their sides are always yummy too!
This place is great for a date night or a fun evening with a large group of friends. It is casual but lively and the food and drinks are well worth the moderate prices.
After a long day in Central Park, the boyfriend and I checked into our hotel and hit up yelp. Â Despite the distance from our hotel to this place, we went for it. Â While that was probably a mistake since it was nearly impossible to get to and from this place, and as a result we missed the live music, that was the only part that wasn't great. Â The place was pretty empty when we got there, which was close to 11. Â We had no trouble sitting down and ordering. Â Service was a little slow, but they got the job done.
To start with the bread was AMAZING. Â Boyfriend had the fish and chips and it was absolutely delicious. Â I chose the kobe burger and would probably have to put this in my top three burgers. Â
The atmosphere was great and if we hadn't been SO tired, it would have been pretty fun to hang out and drink beer at this place. Â Plus the selection was pretty great.
Hopefully, I'll make it back sometime so I can try some of their more traditional dishes!
I have been to The Field about half a dozen times, but to be fair I've only ever gone on Tuesdays. Â So lets begin with Tuesdays. Â Tuesday Night is when The Field has an incredible 2 man Beatles cover band play. Â They are so good you sometimes can't tell the difference. Â Better yet they are a lot of fun and everyone is singing and dancing.
Now the bar itself is great too. Â The parking lot is too small though and you need to park one block over, but they at least have a guy on a golf cart to transfer you back and forth. Â The bar is great! Â They serve great Irish traditional food and have a super selection of beer on draft
On my goal to try food from different cultures, I can say that I have tried Irish food.
Who likes Irish food? Seriously, there is a reason why Ireland and its residents are infamous for beer and beer consumption. That reason being that the Irish are trying to fill their stomachs with beer so they don't have to actually eat any food. Boiled meat, mutton, black pudding [Just in case you don't know, black pudding is made with blood (calling all twilight fans)], yeah no thanks. Anyone who tries to argue with me that Irish food is good, I would tell them "F*ck you, I studied in Ireland and I ate at TGI Fridays." Rest assure though, The Field does not serve Irish cuisine. Well, they do, but with a good ol' red, white, and blue spin on it; making their food actually tasty.
The Field is build around a huge banyan tree which is growing out of its center which offers a really charming touch to the setting- very quaint, very Swiss Family Robinson. The restaurant as a whole has a great atmosphere whether you sit inside or out. The outside seating with the swing-tables is full of personality and great for casual dining. The inside is where the party is at, with live "music" and even some "dancing." It gets really loud inside, so if you are looking to accompany your meal with good conversation, outside is your best bet. Â
The potato soup is not to be missed, and whether you stick with good ol' chicken tenders and fries or go more authentic with a plate of corn beef and cabbage, the food here is pretty good. Â You can wash your meal down with a Guiness, Strongbow, etc. but I have to say that I wish the beer selection were better and more extensive.
Service as the Field is consistently on point, and even when it's busy, the wait staff is friendly and in good spirits. It is not always a super fast meal, sometimes the food takes a little bit to get to you, but nothing terrible.
Besides the potato soup and the cool tree, what also has to be noted is the parking situation. You see, The Field's parking is slim to none, so they have an overflow lot that is a little less than a full block up the street. You could easily walk this short distance, but keeping things American, the Field transports its customers from point A to B in a golf-cart. It's quite kind of them to provide that service, however... I could tell the driver is a risk taker. That kid must love the thrill of driving the golf cart fast, taking corners on 2 wheels and only centimeters from electrical poles. So hold on to your potato soup if you know what I mean.
All in all, the Field is a great place for the diner looking to veer away from the chains and enjoy a place with a charming atmosphere. *Not for those who are prone to motion sickness.*
Me: Hey do you like Irish food?
Friend: Who does?
Me: You obviously haven't tried the food at The Field
That's usually how my conversations go whenever this place comes to mind.....everyone seems to think Irish is all about bland meat and potatoes, but honestly I have to say I thought the same before I ate at this place.
The Field is not just about the food, it's about the ambiance, the people, and the live IRISH entertainment - all of which are AWESOME!!!
Food recommendations:
1. Irish Potato Soup - Ohhh Emmm Geee Goodness
2. Sheppard's Pie - Make sure you add cheese on top
3. Drunken Chicken - Â Great flavors
4. Black and Tan Onion Rings
5. Potato Skins - The best I've had
I usually wash any combination of the above with an ice cold Harp beer, since I'm not a fan of Guinness or Jameson Whiskey.
Quick Notes:
1. Usually very loud during dinner/late night  due to live entertainment
2. Service can be very slow
3. Try to get a table near the stage if it's your first time
ST. PATRICKS DAY EXPERIENCE:
After being here many times before, I finally decided to check it out for "Irish Day" and lunch was pretty disappointing. We had to pay $10 just to enter the door, and food was horrible and overpriced. They cut down on their portion sizes, but charged their regular price. The quality also left a lot to be desired. They had a special event menu and cooked items in huge batches. It was like a fast food joint. I also didn't care for the plastic tableware. But for a day like that, they needed to be efficient and they certainly were. Needless to say, I will not be returning for St. Patrick's Day, at least not to eat.
Ireland threw up here but in a good way.
I love The Field, quirky, fun, good food, live music, full bar... What's not to love! And ladies, if you are looking for a place to take a guy I would strongly suggest taking them here, especially if they have never been before. You will be their hero for the evening.
There are a few options as far as where to dine. If you want something casual, there is an outside porch. There is also a quieter dining room area. I enjoy sitting near the live band. Eventually some folks get up the nerve to dance and the people watching is phenomenal.
The food is very good here. Once thing I appreciate about the menu is that it is *good* food instead of your typical pup fare. There is usually a specials list along with the standard menu and I suggest looking it over because there are usually tasty and creative menu items. Last time I was here they had bacon fried scallops and they were scary good.
The parking is a bit crowded, as is the restaurant at times, but that just adds to the ambiance and it worth the stress.
Went here for lunch today and enjoyed it very much. Sat outside on the "porch" and had to move tables because there were a lot of bugs outside. One even landed in my beer, but I guess that's the price of sitting outside.
Anyways, ordered some Harp and the Fish and Chips. The fish and chips were very good and the fish had a nice batter on them. The fries (chips) were very good as well and the portion was just the right amount. I really enjoyed putting the malt vinegar on them which of course made them taste even better. I really thought about getting another dish for lunch (they have traditional Irish dishes such as Bangers and Mash, Cabbage, etc.) which I will definitely order the next time I go back in.
The bar inside had a very cool vibe to it. I've been to Ireland and it really reminded me of a true pub from Ireland. I'd love to go back and sit at the bar for a few hours when the place is nice and busy as it looks like an awesome place to set up and enjoy the crowd.
I've previously been to The Field twice before with friends and ate in the very charming and less noisy side dining room. Â Both times were great experiences, and the food (Irish sausage roll appetizer, Irish Stew & Shepherd's Pie entrees) was just delicious.
Last night, seven of us ate on the bar side and experienced the incredible Rod Stewart impersonator who graces The Field with his presence every Wednesday night. Â My fish and chips with a side salad was good, but not quite as great as my last two meals. Â Also - and I hate to say it - the service was pretty bad. Â Our waiter was very attentive as we trickled in around 6:30-7:00pm when the restaurant was empty. Â Once it filled up and the show started, however, he was basically nowhere to be found and he forgot about the glass of wine my husband ordered. Â For these reasons, I cannot give The Field a full five stars.
I do have to say that the Rod Stewart impersonator is really not to be missed. Â We caught him performing on the street in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea last year and knew we had to catch the full show. Â He does a pretty good job of looking and sounding like the real Rod Stewart, but it's really the banter between songs that is priceless. Â He will berate the audience the entire time, and you will be laughing the whole way through.
Moral of the story: For drinks and/or the Rod Stewart (or Beatles show), eat in the main bar area. Â For a pleasant, quiet dinner, eat in the side dining room or outside.
Love me an Irish pub & the Field does not disappoint!
Some highlights:
*It's basically a house that's been converted to a bar.
*Good beer selection ranging from traditional pub brews like Guinness, Harp, Smithwicks, Strongbow to more crafty beers like Monk In the Trunk and Magic Hat.
*The Beatles tribute night on Tuesdays is great for dates. Â The live music in general is pretty nice too.
*The food is delish- try the corned beef and cabbage or fish and chips.
Keep in mind:
*The parking lot is small but I think they have a golf cart driving around when the main lot gets full
*It's PACKED on St. Patricks Day. I'd avoid the hassle.
I'm allowing Yelp to guide me to my culinary destinations, and in doing so, I came across The Field Irish Pub & Eatery.
As you head west on Griffin Road away from I-95, you enter a stretch that is somewhat industrial and somewhat barren, so this place is located in a very odd area of Broward County. But because it has such a strong following, as is evidenced by all of those positives reviews, it's clear that folks will go out of their way to dine, drink and be entertained.
I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon and I chose to sit at the inside bar (they have an outdoor portion too). This place looks like a true pub.
Nickie was my bartender and she set me up with Blue Moon. It took me a couple of minutes to read through the menu, but it was decidedly clear: Â Irish Potato Soup, Shepherd's Pie and Bread Pudding.
The Potato Soup was good. Thick, hardy and flavorful. I added a little bit of salt and pepper, and smashed a soda-cracker in it for good measure.
The Shepherd's Pie was good too. Nickie recommended that I top it with cheese, which I accepted. It was served hot and had a good taste to it. I'm a meat-and-mashed-potatos kind of guy, so this was worth my while.
The Bread Pudding was just okay. I remember my mom's version was a lot better. But, no one cooks like mom, right? ;-)
Following my first Blue Moon, I felt a certain obligation to drink an Irish beer, and so I transitioned to a Guinness Draught beer -- and had two beers in fact. I read on Yelp that The Field Irish Pub & Eatery pours a mean Guinness. Normally, I'm not a big fan of this type of beer, but when in Ireland (or a facsimile), do as the Irish would do.
In the background, I heard very subtle Irish music playing over the sound system. They have live music, too, which I did not witness firsthand. On my return visit, I'll make sure to arrive when live music is being played. And, I'll look forward to trying other menu items too.
I will start by saying I love Irish Bars and Restaurants. I frequent this joint, but not as much as Mickey Brynes (Hollywood, FL) and McSorleys Beach Pub (Ft. Lauderdale).
I love this place. The decor is outstanding. It is homey, unique, and transports me to a different place when I enter. I love the many different rooms, and inside and outside sections. There is the usually boisterous main bar and lounge, some high top tables in the back, outdoor seating and two exterior bars, and a huge and separate / segregated dining area. Raised ceilings, farmhouse decor, and dark wood. And that's just inside. The outside is awesome, too, especially as the humidity continues to disappear. And the big, huge, signature tree out front is gorgeous and majestic.
This trip I went to meet some friends on a Tuesday night. They are regulars here, and they love The Two of Us, the Beatles cover duo who packs them in on Tuesdays. I was never a fan of the Beatles, still am not, and certainly am not a big fan of these two chuckleheads. That having been said, they still are crowd-pleasers, and know how to work the room and engage the crowd. And that I very-much enjoy! Being surrounded by people having fun is always fun.
And fun-loving people are packed in here on Tuesdays. Shaking tamborines, dancing, lauging, hugging, joking, and singing. The good time is infectious. Despite the fact that I was stressed and distracted about work.
This was the first time I've eaten dinner at the Field. I usually just drink. I enjoyed the Corned Beef and Cabbage ($13) and had 4 delicious Coors Lights. Total check was $30 plus tip. The portion was immense. Strips of corned beef aplenty, piled atop cabbage and potatoes. I am always a fan of huge portions. The food was bland though. But I get it, the joint attracts a multi-generational crowd, and the early-bird set likes their food to be gentle and not disturb their ex-lax and mylanta smoothies.
The parking lot fills up, especially on Tuesday, but they have an additional lot about a 1/2 block west of the joint, on the North side of the road. No worries there, I enjoyed the extra few steps after all that corned beef. And they have a dude driving an extended golf cart around for those who are too old, tired, full, or infirm from all that bangle shaking.
I saw other reviewers bitching about the service. Our guy was attentive, accessible without hovering (I have hoverers), patient with us changing tables, and managed to time his visits well, despite the people crowded around our table dancing.
Good times! Looking forward to going back next Tuesday!
This is one of those restaurants that has grown over the years, is now rather big, very popular and has a large following. It's one of the few, outside of a meat specialty place that offers prime rib most every night of the week as a regular menu item and of course the Irish staples of Sheppard's Pie, corn beef and the like. It is also one of those places in which you are wise to stick with what is on their main menu and not go for any special of the day unless it is an Irish food item. At least it has been my experience that if they venture into any nightly special items like a Mahi Mahi or a chicken francaise, they are getting themselves into a culinary territory best left alone.
The Irish food that they do, they do a pretty good job of which is evident from the popularity and following they have. The atmosphere is Irish, the background music Irish, everything about it Irish which is of course what and the way it is meant to be; even to the point of being gimmicky.
The patio seating is good, the lighting appropriate, and both the inside and outside bars comfy with good atmosphere. Indeed one of those places where everyone is Irish for the night they are there.
The service is just OK at best on week days or off tourist season nights to rather poor on busy on season weekend nights.
If I could give it 10 stars I would. Love the Field...no neon shamrocks, just the "feel" of a real old Irish cottage, little nooks and cozies and tons of cool old pictures, books, Guiness signs and more.
Fabulous entertainment....love the 2 of us Beatles
Warm friendly staff....great service. I love the way they bring you a lovely goblet for your wine and a small decanter.
The food is great....I'm Irish American and can vouch that the food is authentic and fabulous, hearty and homestyle. Love the shepard's pie, the salmon plate , the corned beef. Yum.
I have taken friends here and suggested it to others and every one loves the Field. Bring your camera for some great photo ops too....love that big Banyon tree outside :)
WOW. Â How have I not been to this local establishment before??? Â Googled best corn beef and cabbage in Hollywood, Fl. and this place popped up.
Went last night with my 91 yr. old Mother, who was dying for some CB +C. Â What a TREAT!
Excellent food.
Unique atmosphere.
Outstanding Service.
Super fair prices.
Can't wait to visit
again.
Highly recommend : Â )
I typically don't go anywhere that is 'Irish' or a 'pub' as I'm a big eater but not a big drinker. Â However, I read all these great reviews on Yelp, checked out their menu and saw the pictures of the decor inside and was intrigued. Â Besides, one of my out-of-town friends wanted me to look for good bread pudding, so I decided to give the place a shot. Â
I was very impressed. Â First of all, Susan, our waittress, was wonderful. Â She knew the menu and LISTENED. Â When I say that, I mean that she would ask if we still wanted bread since we opted out of potatoes as a side. Â She also warned that portions were big and gave us an idea of how much to order since it was our first time. Â She was pleasant, knowledgeable and friendly. Â
As for the food, we tried the Manhattan clam chowder, which was hearty, flavorful and with big chunks of clams. Â Whatever the bread is that comes with your meal is hearty and dense too, warm and perfect with the butter.
The blackened mahi was tender and with just the right taste. Â Susan can ask the cook to make it less blackened if you're not into that much pepper.
We ended our meal with the bread pudding with whiskey sauce. Â I liked it just fine, though I usually like to see some sugary goodness oozing out when I cut into it with my spoon. Â This was moist but there was no oozing. Â So, my lunch companion asked for a shot of Mt Gay rum to pour onto the bread pudding, and that really packed a punch! Â All in all, delicious meal with great service.
By the way, we sat outside because it was a nice afternoon, but the inside is amazing. Â This place doesn't look like much from outside, but the wooden decor inside is cozy and welcoming. Â Ask to sit in the 'cottage' area if you can- if there's live music you can still hear it but it won't distract you from your meal. Â Enjoy!
This is what all pubs should strive for. It is a fantastic locals joint.
The first thing I noticed when I saw this place is it just oozes character. From the outside seating and ginormous tree to the inside , it is just full of character. The inside makes me feel like a hobbit from Lord of the Rings. It is multi-leveled and has low ceilings. The bar even has a low  side, where you feel like a child, to it.
There are a good selection of beers and the food is a major surprise. It is very delicious Irish food. I am shocked that I just said Irish cuisine is delicious, but this place is indeed. The Sherperd's pie is unique here. It is a deconstructed twist on Sheperd's pie. Really well made and innovative. Another great item here is the stew. The right mixture of meat and vegetables.
This place is one of those great kept secrets and it has bands on weekends. Irish I was there right now!
Love Love Love this bar - did I mention I love this place?!?!?!
Came for the first time on Friday night after dinner (must try dinner here one of these days). The parking lot is tiny, but the attendants guide you around to where there's a space, and they have extra space a few blocks down for those crazy Irish nights.
As you walk to the door around the outside seating area, watch your step, lest you trip up against a huge tree smack in the middle of everything - Love #1
Once inside, and seated check out all the options for food and drinks in the menu. Make your selection and order. Emilio and Denise F. had beer, I was still stuffed from dinner, but figured I'd give something sweeter a try - plus I was falling asleep - so the Bailey's coffee was perfect! - Love #2 (can't wait to try the nuttier coffee next time, w/hazelnut -yum!)
You say live music, I say cool!... you say live Irish music, I say AWESOME!!!!! - Love #3 - I had so much fun listening to the live music I could have made them stay all night.
They have Beatles music on Tuesdays... I think next time we go we'll have to catch that show... and they also have other stuff on different days of the week.
I don't know what it was about this place, the tree, the drinks, the music, the company, the everything; but I really really really enjoyed myself there, and am looking forward to going back soon!
A friend asked us to meet him for the best Guinness in SoFla and we went. We chose Wednesday night because "Hot Rod" a Rod Stewart impersonator was singing and he had heard Rod was fun to watch.
Rod was a hoot! Tons of fun, very kitch - a rowdy time had by all.
First things first, service was GREAT! I loved the waiter, he was laid back, cracking jokes, tons of fun and efficient.
The food was as good as Irish food gets, I had the Potato Soup, always a must for me, it was creamy (probably had my months fat limit in one bowl but totally worth it) and absolutely delicious. I ordered the Cabbage Rolls which had a side of mashed potatoes and green beans and carrots. The green beans and carrots were cooked to perfection - fresh and JUST cooked a little, leaving them crunchy.
The Cabbage Rolls also were delish, chock full of ground meat.
And the Guinness, yes so far the coldest Guinness with the most perfect head I have had so far in SoFla.
Now we did have a couple of weird experiences with two drunk ladies, but you can't blame the establishment for their patrons.
