back again from my weekly visit. Â still a favorite for the RH kids, reservists and the public. Â Fast- Fresh-Food! Â Twice Cooked Chicken with cabbage and Spicy Chicken Lo Mein for St Patty's day. Â Great take out service.
CASH only - who needs a credit card to charge a $5 lunch combo. Â This place has been here for 15 years they are doing something RIGHT! Â Others come and go, buffets pop up everywhere yet the First Wok survives with better food. Hot Sour Soup is the best in town.
Small strip mall location limited seating, so what. Â I come for the food! Â 'nough said!
This place will always be the impetus for my love of hole-in-the-wall Chinese, and I love it so. Â My mom saw a worker come out from behind the counter and pop a zit in the mirror in the dining room once, but that was like a decade (or more) ago. Â Hell, there was once the same pile of vomit on the floor for over a week at Taco Casita and I kept going and enjoying myself. Â I am that kind of person.
Anyway, I love the chicken broccoli combination with an egg roll. Â I also love the surly woman who yells at you to order by the number when you call in for carry out. Â Oh, yeah, it's cash only but you probably already guessed that being as this is Terre Haute for Christ's sake.
I have been here well over a hundred times. From high school thru college, and times where I am back in Terre Haute visiting family. A true staple for all who live or travel on the eastern side of Terre Haute. I remember going to Dave's video, renting a movie or video game and grabbing some take out at First Wok. Great Saturday night!
Large Chicken Fried Rice, EXTRA SPICY. They get it right. Every time.
The place is small, not really all the clean, but their take out is great. Â Fast, Cheap, and Delicious.
lady that took order over phone was very friendly.
when i arrived there was little to no wait. Â indeed, they only take cash!
i ordered dinner size kung pao chicken. Â there may have been some confusion...i thought i was ordering meal (with fried rice & egg roll). Â instead, i received white rice & no egg roll. Â it didn't matter because i couldn't even eat the meal...and i tried! Â there was a lot...and for only $8 something. Â
i read previous reviews prior to this, including complaints about the size for the $5. Â my recommendation is to pay $3 more and get more than you can handle!
I came back here a second time with two of my buddies when we were hungry and trying to get food over the weekend since the dining calls here aren't open for weekend dinners. I feel like whatever you order here is bound to taste the same.
For what it is, I don't think it's that cheap, but maybe I just need to get used to the fact that asian food isn't as cheap as it is from where I came from. We had Chicken with Garlic sauce and they gave us such a small portion of rice to compliment it. Additional rice costed a dollar which wasn't too bad, but for the portion of rice we were given...it was pathetic.
Their fried rice, that we ordered afterwards, was pretty much a joke too. I feel like I can make better provided I had the time and the ingredients. It felt just like the times when airline food was crappy.
I have been eating here since the early 90s. Â It is without a doubt the best bargain for lunch in the county. Â Big Portions, fresh cooked and priced right. Â They do not take credit cards, but pay cash it's fun. Â Not much on seating or ambience, but i want good food fast. and this is the place! Â Rose students know this is the best too. place is filled with them on the weekends, lots of people head here. Â Watch how FAST the lady at the register can ring you up, thats entertainment. Â GOOD FOOD beats the other restaurant in a nearby strip mall anytime.
Review Source:Lots of good, greasy food for very little money. The service is usually prompt, but the biggest downside is that they only accept cash. They're usually really busy so there isn't always enough seating. I've never gone here without running into at least one other Rose-Hulman student; it's definitely a college hangout.
Review Source:This has to be the best chinese restaurant in the Terre Haute area. The quality of the dishes coupled with the price is an unbeatable match. Lunch specials traditionally run anywhere from $4 - $6 on average. Food is always fresh, hot and cooked to order and wait time is usually minimal. I would have given this review 5 stars except that this is a cash-only business and they do not take credit/debit cards where most businesses these days do and with as much business that they do, seating is fairly limited.
Review Source:This is definitely one of the best chinese take out places in town. Â The food is very good and reasonably priced. Â The service is fast and courteous. Â
The only things that deter from the experience is the pop machine which is probably older than most of the customers and the fact they do not accept credit cards.
This is probably the best Chinese restaurant in Terre Haute. The food is amazing and extremely affordable (especially their lunch and daily specials). They are able to make anything on the menu in under ten minutes. The only drawback to this place is that their seating is very limited.
Review Source:Greasy, salty, delicious, all you could ask for from chinese take-out. Â Lots of Rose-Hulman kids like to eat here, because it's cheap and tasty. Â It's usually clean inside, there are little booths you can sit at. Â
This is a great place to cure your hangover. Â
There is usually a line during lunch on weekdays, but the service is fast.
