How did I not know this place exists!! It is so cute inside with great ambiance and a delicious happy hour menu that goes until seven. Had the cheese plate and ham and Brie sandwich and it was great. The bar tended was trying out an awesome new Frisk wine and shared it with us just so we could see how great it was. I will Definitely be coming back soon!!
Review Source:This place is an absolute GEM! Suzie, the owner, is wonderful and the staff is extremely knowledgable and extremely welcoming. The establishment is up scale but very warm and inviting. I am already looking forward to our next visit and will have friends in tow. This place must not go unnoticed. It is a great addition to San Juan Capistrano.
Review Source:Can't say enough great things about this place. Wine selection is pretty great and luckily the owners are smart in the wines they choose so that there are not 500 different options to choose from and get overwhelmed by. Pricing on the flights was on point and they are generous with their pours so you get a lot for your money. The two times I have gone were both on Saturdays and this place gets packed but we were always able to find a place to sit. Live music on Saturdays as well (and Fridays I believe) which is pretty loud but just adds to the fun ambiance of the bar. Lastly the people that work there are very knowledgeable about wine but are not 'snobby' about it. Someone who might not know too much about wine but is looking to explore a bit would do well to come here and try some new wines without being intimidated. All in all - a hidden gem in South Orange County that any wine lover (or anyone who enjoys local craft beers, they have those too!) would adore.
Review Source:Cute little place!
Reminded me of a wine bar in Italy, the way you have to walk down the stairs into the place. Its small and charming and the staff are very sweet.
I parked in the free structure that services the train station and walked the 30ft up the street to this spot. Â Look for the hanging sign across the street from the movie theater.
It was 5PM Saturday evening and I was super sad to see a sign on the door saying the place was going to close at 6PM for a private engagement party... whoops. Â Oh well, my bad for not calling ahead. Â My friends and I went in and grabbed a small sitting area in the corner with a table and couch.
The decor was so cool - all wine inspired from the lighting to the tables  to the bar - loved the attention to detail!
The server was very sweet and helped me choose some wines to my liking.
The price was moderate, although my friend ordered a glass of champagne and forgot to specify that she actually just wanted sparkling wine so when we got the bill, she was shocked at the $26 price tag! lol  The second whoops of the evening.
We enjoyed our brief encounter here but alas, moved onto Sundried Tomato Cafe's happy hour when the guests of the engagement party started to arrive... enjoyed that MUCH more and it was MUCH easier on the wallet, but that's another review.
I'm not a wine snob (yet?) but I liked this place...
needs another visit to really tell for sure.
These guys are just super. Really! Â Homey, personal vibe, with a wine and beer list from the heart. I got the beer flight and my daughter the wine flight. Plus the 5 cheese tray with different sauces, breads, crackers and dried fruit which lasted forever. The ambiance is great and the owner Randy did a great job designing/fabricating the decor. Randy and Suzi (wife) go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome and Randy really knows his wine! A bit hard to find, behind a main street, and you walk down to get inside - like Laverne & Shirley's old appt (remember that show?) Visit Five Wines, you won't be disappointed!!
Review Source:I loved this place from the moment I walked in the door. Â I came in a couple months ago from San Diego and have went back multiple times since. Â Great ambiance, music on the weekends, and wine selection. Â And the cheeseball... you HAVE to get the cheeseball! Â Best one I've ever had. Â Randy & Suzy are absolutely amazing people and make you feel right at home.
I would highly recommend Five Vines to anyone that comes into town. Â Best wine bar around. Â Cannot wait until the next time I am in the area.
My Baby Boot Camp group of ladies had our girls night out here last week. There were 7 of us and I called ahead and the owner was really nice and put out a reserved sign on one of the tables for us.
The inside is gorgeous. It is intimate and well decorated. There are some long tables in the center, seating along the windows that face out to the street, bar seating and a little area with a couple couches and table. It is not huge, but not super small. I can see it getting busy in there on the weekends.
The wine selection was interesting and fun. I love to try new things to compare to what i like. I am by no means a wine snob either, I just like to try new things. The flights had nice varietals offered. The server was easy going and answered a few questions. I forgot I was in a wine bar at one point- there was no air of wine snobbiness and just an overall nice feeling where you could tell they liked what they did.
We enjoyed a couple cheese balls (so yummy), the hummus and olives as snacks. We were there for the wine though- and we loved it. The owner came over and introduced herself while we were there and overall we had a great night.
I plan on coming back again before the secret is out about this place and we won't be able to get in!
First time coming here and it has the best atmosphere and feel right when you walk inside. Calm, relaxing, and very pleasant. I love the music they were playing hear too which is 90's acoustic music, great choice.
Big selection of wine, kind and friendly staff. Great customer service.
More information on the staff: polite and helpful with a vast knowledge about the wine they sell.
I highly recommend that you stop by and have a glass.
If you are on a date then this easily a place of romance.
Will come back again and bring some of my friends.
cute little place in the San Juan Capistrano area! this place just opened in downtown SJC and it's super cute, quaint, with a nice classy and comfortable ambiance. we stopped in on Valentine's evening before going to a cooking class nearby for a quick drink. there was a good amount of people already enjoying happy hour. their happy hours are tuesday - friday 3-6PM, $5-6 dollar select wines and beers.
we sat down on one of the long tables and were greeted by a very nice lady who explained the wine, happy hour and menus to us. we decided on the cabernet that was selected for the happy hour for that day, if we had more time, we probably would have chosen a flight so we can taste a a variety of wines. we wanted to get the nut mix to nibble on with our wine but unfortunately they didn't have any prepared, so we went with our server's recommendation, cheese ball with crackers, which is also made in house.
we really enjoyed both the wine and the cheese ball with small crackers. there is a check-in special of 10% off on Foursquare (not yelp), and apparently we were the first customers to ever checkin because one of the owners (the wife) told us. it was quite cute cuz she seemed really ecstatic to see someone check in.
our bill came out to approximately $19 (with the discount). the service was great, the place is super cute, with a good variety of wine selections. i would definitely come back again and do a flight. hopefully they'll have the nut mix next time :)
My girlfriend and I took a train in to San Juan from Fullerton to celebrate an early valentines day on Thursday and happened to walk into Five vines for some drinks and were immediately greeted by Suzy. She has to be one of the coolest people we have met, she definitely made us feel at home. They have an awesome wine selection as well as really good micro brews. I tried the "dark seas" a Russian imperial stout from mission brewery out of San Diego and I have now found a new favorite. After our lunch drinks we spent the day in San Juan and ended up coming back to Five Vines to end our night, the atmosphere is just that great. We tried the "flying blind" and did terrible but had a great time. Â Thank you Suzy and Randy, we will definitely be riding the train more often now and stopping by your place.
Review Source:Had to do a quick little update now that we can't get enough of this place and have been there 3 x's in the last 2 weeks...hopefully Suzy and Randy don't get sick of us :) Â You HAVE to try a cheese plate...we were in heaven. Â It comes with some honey butter, grapes, a spicy jam that was delish, and fig. Â Not to mention the cheese was of course amazing. Â Also, try their famous "Cheese Ball". Â It's a secret family recipe and absolutely delicious. Â
I also tried their "flying blind" flight where if you guess all 3 varietals correctly you get the flight for free. Â It was so fun to do, even though I failed miserably. Â It's a fun way to try wine you may never have gone for. Â For example, they poured a merlot that was so jammy and full of flavor that I thought it could never be a merlot because I hate merlots and always have had ones that are very "blah". Â Not the case with this one! Â A little tip for any of you that decide to "fly blind" - go with your first instinct! Â I had guessed one right on first instinct and then got all confused because the merlot was throwing me off. Â
They have Happy Hour Tues-Fri 3-6pm: $4 selected beer, $5 -$6 selected wines by glass, 25% off wine of the day :)
Myself and a group of friends checked this place out last night and we loved it and had a great time! Â Randy and Suzy, the owners, are super friendly and welcoming. Â The wines and beer selection are top notch and the bar has an awesome vibe. Â They had live music last night too, which rocked! Â We will definitely be back again soon!
Review Source:Was in here last night on a rainy Friday evening. There were a few other groups there besides us. Suzy, the owner, made a point to personally greet everyone that walked in the door and also found time to mingle with each group. She has a really warm aura that made us feel super comfortable and like we were chatting with an old friend.
It is set up as a long rectangle, the bar lines the back wall with longer wooden tall tables placed in the center and one corner has a circle of comfy couches.
They sell wines by 2oz tasters, glass, bottle, as well as flights. They even have a little game where you are given three wines and if you can accurately guess the grape of each, you get it for free :) I loved that they have the taster option so you could really sample many different wines and not be stuck with a full glass.
Food includes cheeses, nuts and hummus but we didn't try any as we'd just had dinner. We also found out that they sometimes have live music on Saturdays.
Definitely plan to go back on a Saturday and chat it up with the friendly staff and taste some delish vino.
I have been to this place a couple times with my boyfriend and we both love it!
They have a great selection of wines, some that are definitely in my college student budget as well as some I want to come back and try on a special occasion. Â Also, they even have a fun selection of microbrews that my boyfriend enjoys and unique, tasty appetizers like the "Mormor's Cheeseball" that pair really well with the wine and beer.
The other thing that I love about Five Vines is the great atmosphere. The owners are wonderful people with a great story, and they really do their best to make their guests feel right at home. You can come for a relaxed evening out or a fun night of celebration when they have live music.
Five vines is the culmination of years of a love for wine by owner Randy and his wife, Suzy. It is a family run place with a cool laid back feel. They are setting themselves off form the other wine bars in the area by offering harder to find wines from California, South America and beyond. You can get 2oz tastings, wine by the glass, a bottle or get a flight to broaden your wine knowledge. They have a good selection of beers too.
Light snacks are offered as well We had a beautifully presented three cheese platter that just made the wine that much better.
Full disclosure here, I have known Randy for a long time and have been to many a winery on the central coast wine tasting with him. He has a good palate for wine and you won't find a dud in the place. They take feedback very well, in that if you don't like something let them know. The rule is "you don't have the eat/drink it all but if you don't like it ya gotta let them know".
Next time you are in old town Capo, drop in for a little taste.
Great new addition to the area. You can get a variety of wines by the 2oz taste, 6oz glass or bottle. The owner was doing a fun little game with a flight of reds...if you could guess the varietal of each wine, the flight was free. Sadly, I didn't win, so I had to pay $20 for the flight. Had an interesting cheese ball that is made in house by the owner's grandma that tasted a little bit like Thanksgiving stuffing. They had live music and some local artists painting, which was fun. It's a small space and was really crowded with opening night seating at a premium.
