This is a real gem in downtown Pt. Richmond. Â It's got a great atmosphere for couples with brilliant food. Â We've dined here several times and have always been satisfied with everything we've had.
The beet salad and Cesar salad are fantastic, any of the pupusas are a winner, and the rack of lamb is outstanding.
The service has always been great and prompt. Â All of the serves seem to tag-team tables and work very cooperatively to make sure that patrons always have exactly what they want.
We'll certainly be coming back again soon.
Breakdown:
Ambiance- 4 stars
Service- 4 star
Food- 4 stars
Overall- 4 stars
If you live wine, and a great atmosphere, this is the spot in Richmond! The smoked salmon carpaccio is to live for! Â Also, the organic golden beets with prosciutto de Parma is equally as yummy! I totally recommend this place. Oh yeah, this is a wine bar, so I highly recommend the 2007 Syrah from broc cellars "phillary."
Review Source:I met someone here because it was halfway between our homes. Neither of us had been there before. We had wine, ate, and talked, for about 4 hours. The servers were all great, attentive, and never rushed us at all.
We shared the food: lamb sliders, pulled pork pupusas, and lumpia. The portions of each item were bountiful; and each item was delicious. We both agreed the sliders were really, really good; how 3 simple things (brioche bun, lamb patty and herb sauce) can come together so well, I have no idea; they were definitely more than the sum of the parts.
At the end of the evening (they do close at 9, but didn't push anyone out the door) Bridget came to our table and introduced herself, and asked our names. This is personal touch that is rarely experienced in drink/food establishments any more and I appreciated it a very much.
I will definitely return!!
I'd give it four and half if I could. Wine list is fun with many accessibly priced options. Food is good too. My only complaint is I wish they could change up the menu (particularly the appetizers/small plates stuff) a bit more. I get bored easily. Anyways though they always take great care of us. I've always enjoyed myself here and I am a picky guy.
Review Source:Enjoyed dinner & wine and live music here recently, we will definitely be back. The food was awesome, everyone loved their dish. Flank steak was cooked perfectly and came with a great pesto, but the lamb sliders were the winner (and thankfully they were my order!) Just right seasoning, with a mint/cilantro pesto & fresh brioche buns. not alot of condiments, but they didn't need anything. Only reason I'm giving 4 stars & not 5 is that 2 of our dishes arrived about 8 minutes before the other 2, so service could've been a little more consistent = but overall, great experience.
Review Source:Point Richmond can be a hidden gem. Â I'd heard really good things about this place and was there recently with some friends. Â The place is small, cozy, and the sign above the door outside refers to the adjacent cafe, not the wine bar. Â They have a decent selection of wines by the glass, and a page of wines by the bottle. Â The prices are reasonable, $9-11 for a glass, they give decent pours and will give you a taste of wine if you want, before you order it. Â The food is really good and relatively diverse. Â We actually over-ordered on the food; what else is new. Â Stuffed big green olives with feta cheese (12-15 olives for $4); cheese plate, with three nice selections and refill of nicely sliced baguette, papusas with pulled pork, salsa and slaw, lumpia with a sweet sauce, three lamb sliders with a basil spread (never had basil with lamb, interesting combo, smoked salmon (not good lemon slices to try to drizzle over salmon but thats a minor thing. Â We had something more too and the whole bill, not included tip, was about $110 (that includes 7 glasses of wine). Â The only drawback is the lamb sliders took some time to come out but other than that, it was a very nice evening.
Review Source:Had a date night here on a warm Summer night. My husband & I dine al fresco on the back patio. It felt like we were the only two people there...........well, we actually WERE the only two people there. I guess we did get there sort of early.
We had the prosciutto, smoked salmon, and the sliders. All very good and went well with our mild bottle of Pinot.
The staff was attentive and friendly. We'll be back for sure.
I so want to give this place a 5. The food was and wine was fantastic. The service was outstanding.......................................Â... but, damn was the music LOUD! We got there before it started and were having a great time. Once the music started we could not even have a conversation across the table. This spot is not that big. Really don't need speakers for the music. We will go back, but in plenty of time to get out before the music starts.
Review Source:Four2Nice was absolutely a great treat in this small town.
I was immediately drawn into thedowntown area with some boutique shops, old hotels, church and restaurants... We were going for a walk during the break of a wedding shoot and trying to find a nice bar to have a glass of wine to relax. We found this cool place. Had very pleasant conversation with the owner. Loved little  details in the bar. Food was awesome, love the papusas!
Love, love, love this place. Â The food is excellent and Brigit is da bomb. Â They have music sometimes, a great outdoor deck and the vibe here is just cool. Not over the top and they treat you well. Very friendly.
Come, relax and enjoy the food and people. Â We are going back this weekend and can't wait! As you can see, no bad reviews... awesome.
I'm a big fan of Little Louie's by day....Great lunches and its my favorite breakfast joint in the East Bay...But I never hit their dinner service and wine bar, Four2Nine....Shame on me!
We hit Four2Nine for dinner last night...3 adults and my buddy brought his 1 year old son. Â The little one was a kinda fussy but the restaurant staff was very accommodating bringing him cut apples and a nice cold glass of milk which helped to settle him down.
We quickly settled in and read the menu...I'm impressed! Â We ordered up a nice bottle of Chianti, some stuffed olives and a beautiful cheese plate. Â While enjoying the appetizers we all decided on the same main course, the flat iron steak with baby veg, spinach and mashed potatoes with creamy horseradish mixed in.
The main course was perfectly cooked...Just an awesome dinner and I cant wait to get back there. Â We finished off the meal with a desert of blueberries with creme fresh and coffee Americano.
This place is as good as it gets for local restaurant! Â The food is outstanding, the price is more than fair and the service was excellent. Â I've paid double and more at places in SF and Vegas for less...Head to Four2Nine for your next dinner you wont be disappointed!
A lovely addition to Point Richmond. We have been here once based on a good experience at the related Little Louie's. I'd give 4to9 5 stars for the laid back cozy feel, personable service, wine and......the amazing pupusas.  We thought our main courses were a little bit of a let down, however. The porcini ravioli and  scallops/ green curry risotto were ok, but not special. We'd return for wine and pupusas (kind of an odd combo) without hesitation, and  we will keep our fingers crossed for developments in the kitchen.
Review Source:This place has been open for one year. I heard good things about from some of the locals. It is directly across the street from the Hotel Mac on Washington St.
Small intimate setting with not much ambiance. They have a good selection of wines that they pair with some fabulous food. We had a serving of pork loin roast and lamb chops. Wonderful is a good description. The caesar salad was cold, crisp and very tasty. We drooled as we saw the other dishes pass us by on the way to other tables. We could tell that this place has lots of return customers. " We'll be back"
The definition of a hidden gem. Â The type of place you want to tell nobody about because you want it to be 'your spot' . . . but SO GOOD you want to take people there all the time.
Family owned and operated....true entrepreneurs.
Now lets talk food. Â The mussels are PHENOMENAL, the LAMB CHOPS were perfectly cooked and to top it off, I lucked out one night when red velvet cupcakes were there.
I'm not the biggest wine drinker, but trust your waiters/waitresses . . .they know their stuff!
Great little place. Â The hours are a little weird, but the place is cozy and the people are nice. Â FIVE POURS OF WINE FOR FIVE DOLLARS!!! Â Thats a great wine flight. Â The food is good too - I can't wait to try the lamb sliders again. Â During the summer its open on Wednesday during the Farmer's Market... makes for a nice day in a really quaint little town.
Review Source:Been there twice, walked by many more. It is not obvious at first; not obvious they maybe open, not obvious someone could be in there learning about a new, affordable wine, not obvious that it is an easy hole in the wall wine bar. Finally, walking in...I will continue through the door. Tristen is friendly and knowledgable about wine. He is young and we are not in Backroom Wines in Napa, but he does well.
Inside It's comfortable, clean, newer, and it's a super easy spot for a woman to go alone and have a glass of wine...without "all that". In fact a woman told me the same type of comment about the Up and Under. I strolled through there on my way to Four2Nine...wow, all eyes on deck. I was trying to remember if I recently dyed my hair neon.
I will continue to try it out, especially on Farmer's Market Day... 5 tastes for 5 bucks. Fairly generous 'tastes' too. (Wednesday afternoon/eve).
I say... keep up the good work!
Hours are 4 - 9, as the name suggests.
Saturday night date night and my honey and I went into downtown Point Richmond to try this AMAZING and IMPRESSIVE wine bar. Â The proprietor, Tristan, obviously cares a great deal about this place. Â He made the rounds through the dining room several times while we were there, always stopping to chat and answer any questions guests might have. Â And you truly felt like a welcome guest, one that the host was grateful to entertain, instead of just another customer.
The quaint and casual atmosphere of Point Richmond is felt here. Â Although we arrived around seven on a Saturday night there was no wait. Â We were promptly greeted and made to feel welcome. Â It seems any other place in the East Bay or the City would be jam-packed and have a long wait. Â Here they were doing some nice business but you felt able to relax and linger and have a change of pace to enjoy your dinner in this elegant yet laid back wine bar.
We went with the small plates ordered the Salvadoran Papusas which were quite delicious though to be fair I've never had papusas before. Â We also ordered the Manila Lumpias which were better than any egg roll I've ever eaten. Â We finished with the Little Louie Sliders, a plate of three; two had Wagyu beef with horseradish sauce and the third was lamb with mint jelly. Â All were quite delightful. Â The horseradish sauce could have been a little sharper but the sliders were cooked to perfection, still pink in the middle. Â And when I say small plates don't be fooled, these are generous servings compared to typical small plates. Â All of the food was divine. Â And the wine, incredible. Â The staff was knowledgeable and incredibly helpful.
I plan to be back soon, in fact, I notice they do $5 wine tastings on Wednesday during the Point Richmond Farmers' Market so I'm quite sure I will stop by for that.
I'm really impressed with this place. Â I've been here multiple times during the day when it's Little Louie's. Â I was a bit skeptical when I heard that it becomes a wine bar by night, but they pulled it off. Â I went here on a Friday they happened to have a local winemaker hosting a tasting. Â After ordering a flight of his different wines, we walked away with a delicious cabernet... at a discount. Â We also tried the cheese plate and papusas, which were both very good. Â They have a decent selection of cheeses, which go great with the wine selection. Â I they stick around. Â My parents love places like this. Â Since they live in Washington State, it'll definitely be a stop on the itinerary next time their in town.
Review Source:This place is a favorite! The waiters and waitresses were all so nice and the mood in the place is just so "good timey". My friends and I are now avid visitors when we decide to go out. This is a great place to sit and talk with a good glass of wine and even sometimes enjoy some live music.
Review Source:Pt. Richmond is quite the little hot-spot. Â With the Thai place, Hotel Mac, Up&Under, farmer's markets, Edibles, Little Louie's, and now their wine bar! Â
We took advantage of the fixed price Valentine's paired menu. Â We thought it would be nice to see what they came up with, what local wines were served, and try an alternative to the over priced urban lover's day insanity. Â Well, we were surprised! Â This was top-notch quality haut-cusine! Â Wines from around the world, and expert pairing to boot. Â The decor is so subtle, yet chic, and the staff Really seemed to be having quite a good time - they KNOW how good their product is and are eager to share!
Don't miss this absolute gem.
I'm a fan! Â Since we work in the East Bay and live in Marin, we drive past Point Richmond every day so it was the perfect place to stop off for a celebratory drink(s) and food. First off, downtown Point Richmond is SO cute and Four to Nine fits in perfectly. Â The whole atmosphere sets the scene perfectly for a date night and is certainly a great alternative to going into the city.
Four-to-Nine is a great spot to have a nice meal (and wine!) without breaking the bank. Â The staff are very attentive and kind - taking your coat when you walk in the door and what-not. Â The decor is great. Â The wine is good and the food is great (and cheap! - we had lamb shank w/mash potatoes for $12!) Â The restaurant feels nice but not overly pretentious and you can tell they really thought about the overall aesthetic, which I always appreciate. Â One suggestion, though, would be to add carpet on the floor or drapery on the ceiling to absorb some of the noise.
We met one of the owners/bar tenders and he said their goal is to make it a "destination spot." Â I think they are nearly there. Â I would definitely recommend going out of your way to try out Four-to-Nine. Â We'll certainly be back.
I headed to Four2Nine with my b-friend and a girl friend on a rainy, cold Saturday night.  I was impressed from the moment we arrived to the time we left. The ambiance is cute and cozy.  The owners  transform the deli/restaurant space by day into a hip wine bar by night. Had I not been to the space before I wouldn't have even guessed that it had undergone a metamorphosis only a few hours prior. Â
The wine list is diverse and very reasonably priced. Â Based on the flyer on the table, it looks like they change the wine list (or maybe it's just the live music genres) Â to feature regional tastes every week or so. Â In any case this week featured South America. Â There are a couple of really yummy Malbecs on the list. Â The food we had was good and reasonably priced as well. Â I highly recommend the papusas and the smoked salmon platter came piled high.
I liked the live music too though it makes it a bit difficult to carry on a conversation without shouting over the musician. Â
I personally think this place blows away the pretentious wine bars I've been to in SF.
Not knowing much about Richmond I was delighted to find that there is a super cute, charming area hidden just off the freeway. I made the trip from Oakland and it was well worth it.
Four2Nine is a wine bar without the pretentious snobs. I felt very at ease and comfortable there. I'm not one for the wine bar scene but I absolutely loved this place. The bartender Kevin (I hope I'm remembering that right) was very friendly and knowledgeable about the wines he was serving. The owners and staff are also very welcoming and hospitable. Â
I didn't have food the first time but everything I saw looked amazing. I hear their mint lamb sliders are to die for.
Swung in for a work hosted event one evening. Very nice conversion of the Little Louie's space. I was skeptical when I first heard about Four2Nine but after seeing it, they've done a great job.
I think this is a great addition to the Point Richmond area!
The live music was a great touch, although it was a bit loud for such a small space.
A great addition to Point Richmond!
This wine bar has a cozy atmosphere, a nice selection of wines and some yummy appetizers. Â The wine choice is up to you, but I recommend the lumpia and papusas off the snack menu.
Kudos to Megan and Bridgette (sisters) for taking the chance on this venture. Â It adds a bit of "youthful fun" to a sleepy town.
I had the pleasure of enjoying a sneak peak at the new wine bar in Point Richmond before it opened. Â First thing you notice when you walk in the door is the warm, welcoming environment. Â Nice medium wood tones through out the place compliment the wine bottles decorating the walls. Â The bar is one of my favorite spots so far, it is made up of recycled alcohol bottles encased in a sort of hard clear glass. If you look long enough you can see a few little pieces of labels in the shards. Â
The menu was well thought out, mostly appetizers that compliment the selection of wine you choose. Not to mention a nice selection of local craft brews. I hear soon there will be beers on tap too, hopefully DOGFISH HEAD 90 Minute IPA makes the cut!!!!
Tristen(sp?) and his family were incredibly friendly and gave off sort of genuine value. Sometimes when you meet people you can immediately tell they are on the level and not putting up a fasad, this family was it!
Now I know wine has this sort of "snob" or "upper class" stigma attatched to it, but that is malarky. If you like to drink then why ignore one of the oldest ambrosias? Like absynthe, wine has a more subtle, almost natural intoxication to it. Â
"But Nick, I don't know anything about wine. It'd be embarrassing to ask for help, people that go to wine bars already know about wine."
The only way to learn about something is to ask questions. This is great place to do just that, it's encouraged. Â This is a place for younger people that want to reach beyond beer pong and flip cup, and try something new. Â
So break the negative stigmas of wine and the rest of richmond and come here! Â You deserve, I deserve, lets just say we deserve it.
P.S. Â Live music!!!!! All genres. Yup, breaking barriers.
P.P.S Â Beers are $4.50 across the table, regardless of brand!!!
