The patio is an overwhelmingly enjoyable place to be on just about any night of the year. Â You're seated on a patio (or standing around with friends). Â You have perfect weather for most of the year. Â You have a fantastic people-watching perch. Â The women and/or men walking by are every bit as fantastic as the weather. Â You really could not enjoy life more, except...
(1) Trying to get service is what I would liken to pulling your adult teeth out of your own mouth with only the usage of your index and middle fingers on whatever hand is not your dominant hand. Â Seriously, the ladies look nice that are the servers but the whole service aspect seems to escape.
(2) Beyond the flag of England flying at the place, there is nothing remotely English about it at all. Â Your staff certainly does not know any traditional English drinks (just try to ask for one) and neither do your bartenders. Â (See Bob B.'s review for a second perfect metaphor about German bars...)
In the end, for the people watching alone and the nicety of having a patio, I give you an A-Okay.
Ok, I am a big fan of Frog n Firkin but I have to ding you guys on this one. Was there last night and I asked the waitress if she knew what a lager & lime was. She did not know but said she would ask the bartender. She came back and said he had no idea.
I spent two years in the UK where I learned a lager and lime was something women drank who did not fancy the taste of beer. The lime gave it a bit of a fruity taste.
Now on to my bitch. In a regular American bar I would never think to ask this. The Frog & Firkin bills itself to be an English pub. I can understand the waitress not knowing. But the bartender had no idea?
This is kind of like going into a German bar. Asking for a heffeweizen, and they give you a funny look. Huh, what's that?
So, if you have the Brittish flag all over. At least do some research...

I always get the worst service every time i come here. Unbelievably slow to even come over to my table for the first time. I absolutely love the atmosphere and would come back more often if I didn't get ignored the whole time. The only thing that keeps me coming back is the Nottingham sandwich.
To sum it up, there are better places to go on University than here.
