The Shanty

BIZARRE experience. I have an out of state license. Apparently, the Shanty has a "no out of state license policy." Is this even legal????

I was refused service by a young and fratty barkeep who proceeded to tell me that individuals with out of state licenses had to apply to be on the owner's "list" to be granted admission to the bar/to be served.

I was meeting a girl who had just received her drink. Obviously we had to leave as they refused to serve me, LMAO really. The barkeep tried to charge the girl I met until I made a very overt comment.

I'm not convinced this kind of policy is legal, as it is clearly discriminatory against those from other states and flies in the face of federal provisions stemming from the interstate commerce clause.

Laughable. In a University town? Are you kidding? Get a blacklight or your servers ID reading training if you are that paranoid.

Sorry Shanty while you still have a fantastic patio service has become very slow and bordering on unfriendly.  While on the patio our server kept forgetting to bring us our change and granted school was still in so she was a little busy but the only one there which seemed terrible for her.  Since then we came back again and opted for the bar where the bartenders have always been friendly and chatty.  This was on a slower summer night and they seemed like they could barely be bothered with us.  Eh so we chose to head over to the Hut.  I'm sure I'll give this place another shot sometime but with so many other places opening up it probably won't be soon.

I have been coming here for years because of the great beer selection and the lovely garden patio. My fiancé and I even had our engagement party here out back. I'm sad to have to say good bye because of an incident last weekend. My parents and 25 year old bro were in town and I wanted to take them to my favorite places and drink awesome beer. We roll in on a hot Saturday afternoon about 5pm and as we are picking out a table, the older bar tender (owner?) informs us that we cannot be in there drinking without sleeves. Bear in mind, it's 105 outside and myself, my mom and my bro are all wearing tank tops. The requirement seemed personal, as my bro pointed out others already drinking in the bar without sleeves. As voices rose, I hustled my family out of there and we took our business up the street to Mr Head's, where you can get good beer and good service, all without wearing sleeves.
