Mr. Frogs you made me look bad. Just a few months ago I raved about how you're the new cool kid in town. WHAT HAPPENED? Why on Earth would you try and implement a $20 cover charge...IN THE GROVE? Are you purposely trying to commit bar-suicide? In response to my shock, all your bouncer could muster was: " we've got a DJ from Wisconsin tonight".
...Yeah.................good bye.
Overpriced drinks, expensive cover charge and under-aged teenagers. What is their to like in this place? I usually don't write reviews but after my friends and I experience at this place I found it sufficient to do so. The drinks were expensive and watered down. The bathrooms were overflowing with materials I wish I could remove from my memory. I would also like to know where the management finds their bouncers? The Zoo? They are complete animals, that decide putting someone is a headlock is the best way to get someone out of the club.
Review Source:Walking back to our car in the Grove, my husband and I passed by the unassuming Mr. Frog's. I noticed the sign outside that advertised an $8 lunch deal including a cheeseburger, fries, and a drink, and we couldn't refuse. Granted we were trying to save money and eat heathier... but it's hard to turn down a deal like that!
Inside, Mr. Frog's is kinda divey. We sat at the bar and waited for our meals. In the midst of waiting, the door opened and what seemed like an endless stream of loud, excited, college girls barged in. The first thing out of one of their mouths was, "I need a BEER!" Turns out we had chosen the same place as a women's rugby team's post-game hangout! They literally took up all of the restaurant! Thank goodness we
ordered just before they came in and got our food quickly.
The restaurant has an open-style kitchen, where you can see the cook making your food. I'm not crazy about this concept, particularly in divey restaurants/bars like this one, because what I see is usually slightly terrifying. No gloves, the same person going back and forth from register to food. I would rather not know!
The fries were nice and crispy, and the season salt was a great touch. We were able to pick our drinks from the selections in the fridge.
The girls proceeded to sing SEVERAL songs about who knows what, and we laughed while enjoying our delicious -- and HUGE -- cheeseburgers. I don't remember the last time I haven't finished a good cheeseburger, but this one was so big I just couldn't eat the whole thing. It was greasy, which made me not feel so great later! But at the time, we both really enjoyed the food.
We packed up the food to go, and left the rugby chicks to themselves... still singing! I'm sure Mr. Frog's is a fun place to go at night too.
Mr. Frogs is an incredibly fun time if you want to feel the college party atmosphere. A local way to bring Miami nightlife to the Grove. The bar has just opened and was renovated. It is a remarkable improvement from its previous ownership. Great transformation with people really dedicated to making sure you have a great time.
