I would never review a comedy club on food, because i'm not sure why you would ever go there for the food. Â I also would never review on how good the comedian was, as this, too, would not make sense to me. Â So here we go, strictly on experience. Â First off, the club is clean, nice, and inviting. Â The place was packed, as we were seeing Rob Schneider. Â Tip i wish i would have known, get there early, even if you pre-ordered tickets. Â You will be seated in the order you are in line. Â This should have occurred to me, though. Â We ended up in the very back, which was not ideal, however i was suprised to find out we had no trouble seeing or hearing anything. Â The wait staff was quite amazing for the number of people they had to take care of. Â I did not see anyone waiting for drinks, and as you can imagine, there were hundreds being made and served. Â Only real complaint of the night was my seat was not comfortable. Â This would have been better if we were not stuck in the back by the wall with no space to really move, however, it would have been just as hard anywhere in the room. Â Overall a great night out and we would not hesitate to return
Review Source:The seating layout is terrible. Chairs sit 2-3 inches higher than booths, blocking the view with several rows of people. Very difficult to see the stage from most places in the club unless you're in the front row or very back row.
Interesting that they have a full menu, but not many options if you're eating gluten free.
But hey, it's the only comedy club in town, what are you going to do. And $30 for tickets to Rob Schneider isn't bad.
OK people, its a comedy club, and everyone gets picked on. If you can't handle various jokes about race, religion, sex, and other off limit subjects we encounter in everyday life, than maybe you should stick to church socials. Comedy is meant as a way for us to laugh at ourselves, and chill.
They usually have two shows, 7:30 and 9:45, and the later show is usually more rambunctious attracting many from the local bars. The earlier shows usually have less drunks, but the later shows tend to be funnier and more unpredictable.
This club brings real top notch talent to Des Moines, and my favorites are the Untames Shrews (very dirty show), Bobby Lee and Brian Posehn. Compared to clubs I have been to other large cities, Des Moines is lucky to have a club of this caliber.
Yes the food is not top notch, barely above bar food and the menu is somewhat limited. After a couple rum and cokes who cares! Leave your inhibitions at home, have some drinks, laugh and have a good time. It's a comedy club after all....
The Funny Bone in Des Moines does a good job of bringing top comedy talent to Central Iowa. Â I've seen several comedians here, including Ralphie May and Doug Benson. Â Surprisingly, I enjoyed the lesser known acts more.
The drinks run a bit pricey here and the food's just fair, but as Diane A. mentioned, one doesn't so much go to a comedy club to eat, but it's nice to have the option.
I've found that service can be hit or miss.
If you give the place your email address, they often email free ticket offers, usually for up to 6 free tickets on a weeknight (they're trying to fill up the shows). Â Tickets are fairly affordable normally ($10-$25 or so).
Because Funny Bone is more well known as a Comedy Club, I'll rate a majority according to that.
The night I came here (Thursday)...tickets were only $10/person.....even better, they don't lay on a 2 drink minimum like a lot of other comedy clubs Im used to back in LA. Â Seating is ample, accommodates a big crowd, yet intimate enough to feel close to the comedian.
The wait staff was actually pretty on top of things, and were more than willing to make an off-menu drink of choice. Â
Obviously, you don't go to a comedy club to eat, but their menu does offer pastas, steaks, and apps....very good to keep you occupied if you're there early for seats.
Funny bone is a great place to go with pals for a few hours without denting your wallet.
This is a tough call. As a resturant, I have to give this place a low mark. As an overall entertainment venue I would go much higher, probably in the 4+ range. Seriously, as far as comedy clubs go, this facility is pretty top notch. I admit that I've had a bite or two to eat there, but come on, who goes to a freaking comedy club to eat a delicious meal? Do yourselves a favor and grab a bite to eat at a nice , comfortable sit-down joint and then catch a late show at the funybone.
