I've always liked Gasho's. It wasn't the best place around a few years ago, but they have improved since then. The new tables were way overdue!
The cooks are almost always singing and entertaining the guests. I wouldn't come here if you want a quiet dinner.

CLOSED. Yep..that's going happen when you don't hire authentic staff and keep the place filthy. What a shame. Owner ran it right into the ground.

I loved Gasho when it was around. Amazing prices for everything, but maybe that was its downfall. It was too good to be true! The hibachi rice, soup, and salad that came with the meal was my favorite. I'm really sad to see it closed down.

I was the first bartender hired by Gasho when it first opened. I was thrilled to work in this authentic Japanese farmhouse that was transported from Japan and rebuilt without any nails. I left to do other things, but the Gasho (or "praying hands" due to the A frame roof) was always a special place. Over the years, and especially after the building was damaged in an arsons fire, friends and family told me the restaurant was going down hill.  I live in Connecticut now and did not get to Hawthorne as often to go there regularly.
I recently was in the Central Valley area and went to the Gasho there, (this built prior to the Hawthorne Gasho) and was sadly informed by the manager that my beloved Gasho in Hawthorne was closed for business.
I hope someone can buy this historical building and make a use for it that reflects and respects it's unique origin.

I have been here many times. I think this place may be closed now. Their number and address has been removed from their website. When you drive by, the parking lot is empty on a weekend night!

I noticed this place was going down hill when I called to place a lunch order and they said the kitchen was closed?! Another time I called and no one answered.

I would love to hear from someone confirming its closed.

I was taken here on a company dinner with some people from Japan.  Yes...real Japanese people.  Our chef introduced himself proudly as "Jose from Mexico City Japan" - he was awesome!  The Japanese guests sat in horror and amazement as they were asked to catch broccoli in their mouths.  All in all...was fun but I can't see coming here on my own accord.  And the 'vent' system seems non-functional...smoke and steam fills the place during the cooking.  Meh.

Gasho is somethin else. Almost none of the employees are actually Japanese, and most of the chefs are Hispanic with faux oriental accents. They seem to have given up. Years ago you'd really get a show from your hibachi chef, whereas now you'll get a couple knife flips and broccoli tosses, but that's it.

The prices are very high but the food is quite good. Overall it's just so much worse than what it used to be that it's hard to give it a positive rating.

One warning: once you enter Gasho, the scent stays on your clothing. Gasho has its own atmosphere. Clouds of Japanese food remnants grace the thick air.

Also the water is horrendous and they don't offer bottled. Recent theories suggest the water might come from the tap of some other strawberry drink which is what gives it the horrible flavor.

always very crowded on weekeends.  Food was okay.  It just seems to be getting old.  There are better newer places.

    What a let down..

Dirty bar, dirt tables, dirty everything. Waited for more than 1 hour and while we waited the Young staff didn't know what to do. no manager to be seen and thus the mess all over.
Management needs to take care of this place or risk closing.. You know what if this place were to be rated like a NYC rest, i think it would get an F in cleanliness.

Served soup and salad prior to even ordering drinks. Didn't serve us the shrimp appetizer. Forgot our rice.  Poor service. Felt rushed.

Gasho is the king of all shitty hibachi restaurants...mostly because they take the shitty overpriced hibachi food that you find at shitty unauthentic "Japanese" restaurants and make it even more pricey. Sure, the exterior is cool and the yard is pretty and relaxing, but you do not need to dish out that much money for their mediocre food and service.

Anyone who likes this place is totally brainwashed by their onion volcano tricks.

Have been going here ever since I was a young child.  The hibachi food is excellent.  Prices are on par with what you would expect to pay at a hibachi establishment.  The portions are generous and the service is friendly and entertaining.

The hidden gem of this establishment is the full garden, complete with koi pond in the back of the restaraunt.  Perfect for walking through while waiting for a table or to just relax after eating a big meal inside.

Perfect place to bring a date or celebrate a special occasion with family and friends.

The only reason I did not give the place 5 stars because the talent of the chefs has declined over the years

This is fun to go for a birthday or special occasion.  Like all hibachi places, it gets really smokey in there. If you wear contacts, bring eye drops because the smoke will dry your contacts out.   I always get the filet mignon with hibachi fried rice. I caught the broccoli in my mouth this time!  The chefs are talented and fun to watch, especially the little stunts they try to pull off.  It does get crowded so try to get there during non peak hours.  Their daiquiries are yummy!  Very kid friendly.

Ate here for the first time last night for a friend's birthday.  Had an 8 o'clock reservation.  Were told we still needed to wait a bit once we got there.  Ordered drinks at the bar- one friend got hers, one got a drink that was so vile in color + texture she couldn't drink it, + I got nothing...they eventually told me they were out of ingrediants.  My friend + I then both ordered what our first friend had gotten.  15 minutes go by with bar staff refusing to come near us.  Eventually they admit begrudgingly to us that they don't have the ingrediants for THAT drink now.  We decide to wait to sit for drinks.

By the way, it's now an hour past our reservation time.  People from our party have been busy talking to the hostess, trying to get us seated.  They gave many excuses: overbooked, understaffed, etc.  During this, the manager hid, letting the poor hostess deal with all of the many irate customers.  Maybe we wouldn't be so pissed if they actually took care of us at the bar!  Finally, we are sat at 9:30.  However, we sit for 20 minutes with no server coming over.  We talk to the hostess, who comes to take our order, comes back with our drinks- and accidentally spills the whole tray, glasses breaking on the hibachi top.  We tried to cheer her up, because she looked like she was going to cry.  We moved ourselves to a new table + proceeded to wait with new drinks.  After another 20 minutes, my friend's mild-mannered fiance had enough + left to yell at the manager.  He came back after awhile, still seething, but we were getting ALOT comped.  At 10, they finally started whipping food at us- seriously, 3 courses in front of us at once...if they had done it leisurely for all of the tables, I think they would have had less angry customers.  In the end, the food was okay, but definitely not great, and not worth the shenannigans it took to get it.

I grew up in the restaurant industry (literally, behind the scenes at my mom's) and eat out often.  I have NEVER experienced such poor customer service anywhere.

I like Gasho's because it's nice sitting at a table having a show put in front of you.  But I don't like their hibachi as I like it at other places.

The mustard sauce here is wayy too pungent (and I usually have an obsession with hibachi mustard at places!)  The salad dressing could've been better.  I got the sirloin there and it was such an ugly piece of meat, like totally flat and almost brown to their point where it didn't look fresh.

I got sad because other places will do the volcano with the onions and this chef didn't.

I did enjoy the massive amounts of sake and sake bombs though, but the waitstaff wasn't as friendly.

The tables are smaller than other hibachi tables, and I find myself finishing most of my food, not because I'm a fatass, but because the portions are smaller.  So you pay the same amount of money as other places and yet you get a lot less.

Teppanyaki is not my favorite cuisine, but as a parent with 3 young children, I am forced to eat more than my fair share.  We drove out of the way to visit this restaurant because it looked quite interesting from the outside. The building is pretty, but interior is tired and smells from years of greasy cooking and little cleaning.
The food is subpar by any standard, particularly when you compare it to some of the other hibachi places in Westchester.  The hibachi chefs are skilled when it comes to the tricks that wow the kids, but our meals were under seasoned, over cooked and too oily.  The ingredients were low quality.  They par cooked the vegetables to speed things up- the result was soggy, tasteless slop.  The service was subpar as well.  The staff was friendly and tried to be accommodating, but if you don't speak Spanish it is very difficult to order your food.  This typically doesn't bother me, but there was not one person in the restaurant that could help interpret for us so we couldn't place the order to our specification- frustrating.  We waited 55 minutes from the time we order until they came to cook our dinner, and the place wasn't that busy.
Our kid's meals came with ice cream.  It was spoiled; when we tried to explain it to our waiter he couldn't understand so we left for Carvel.  As we walked to our car, which was parked in the back, we saw the prep chefs cutting up vegetables.  As the worked they smoked cigarettes, coughed and spit on the floor of the kitchen.  I am not so sure that this is uncommon, but it certainly didn't give us the impression that the kitchen was clean.  We will not be returning anytime soon.

I brought my son and his cousins here for a special dinner for his 11th birthday seated at two adjacent tables .  The service was so bad that, after an hour and a half, we had to leave and order pizza.

Wait staff was absent, lethargic and inattentive.  Though Gasho was not crowded, it took more than an hour for the chef, who barely spoke English, to show up.  He proposed to cook for one table at a time, and was so slow and inexperienced that it took him 15 minutes to prepare the table and poor the sauce.  He had a bad cut on his finger that he explained happened while cutting vegetables while cooking.

We complained to the manager who said they were "short" on chefs and offered to change ours, but by then our kids were so hungry that pizza was a better option.

What's with these other reviews?  Here's the thing... the food is terrible here.  But worst of all, the vent hoods can not handle the deluge of greasy air that the multiple tables throw off.  I have been here 2 or 3 times, cause my daughter loves it, but no more.  Last time I left with smelly grease on me, my clothes, my coat.  Gross.  I think they were better years ago.  Everything was overcooked and oily.  Blech.

This is my grab and go spot and Hibachi is its best feature...Im a chicken and shrimp gal and yeah Im a sucka for the flipping food tricks and quick slicing that comes with watching your food cook... - I guess it has to be somewhat entertaining.... but mostly I just call to order and do take out ...I much rather watch tv....The food is pretty good, great for taking friends new to the area and to Hibachi

You go to these types of places less for the food and more for the goof factor.  It's not the best steak or shrimp you will ever have but niether is it the worst.  It's theme parky type fun so it is alot of kids and celebrations.  I like Gasho more than Edo for these types of restaurants in the lower-mid westchester area...I havent been to Gasho in a while but I have been there enough times to know that if you judge based on what you should expect it is pretty good.  So just don't go expecting BLT Steak and realize it is a Benihana type thing and relax and enjoy the shtick.

Sort of a land mark Japanese Hibachi restaurant, but far from the best. Gets crowded and smoky, popular with groups celebrating something.

Growing up we spent many a Mother's Day or graduation celebration here. I still have pictures of me as a little girl in the gardens. Over the years I'm sure this place has lost some of it's touch and I think with the right management it can return to it's opulence of years ago.

Hibachi is sitll it's best feature. I usually go for the steak and shrimp and love having all of those freshly prepared veges piled high. Do they still do that volcano thing with the onions/ That can be tiring.  I look forward to returning again with my own family and friends. There is a reason this place has lasted for over 30 years.

I have many fond memories of Gasho from birthday parties and family celebrations in my earlier years, of my mother telling me how the building was built with no nails supposedly. The building is really gorgeous, and the gardens filled with tulips and a stream are peaceful. (Atmosphere - 5)

As for the restaurant itself, before we got what we actually ordered (steak and lobster for me, filet mignon and shrimp for my brother, etc), we got a soup, a salad, and rice, and we were almost too full to eat our meat and seafood by the time it was cooked! On top of that, there were mounds of vegetables too. (Food - 3)

The food was pretty delicious, although my steak was certainly more medium well than medium rare... Our chef was quite the comedian, and made more jokes than he did tricks. (Service - 2 1/2)

For dessert, my brother was hoping on some fried ice cream, but they only had regular ice cream, and chocolate cake as their dessert options. (Dessert - 1)

I'm not really sure where else in Weschester to get Hibachi, so I would return, for a birthday party or some sort of large celebration. (Overall - 3 stars)

I love hibachi; I didn't love Gasho in Hawthorne. Not only did he burn my filet mignon after I told him I wanted it medium rare, but he also doused everything in way too much soy sauce and made everything so salty it was barely edible. The service was not good, we must've asked for water like 10 times before he brought it over and I almost passed out from dehydration from all that friggin salt

    the gyoza was aight.
