22 years later... has not changed that much.
First off... it pains me to realize that it has been that long since I have visited the Gemini. When going to college up the hill from here, my people and I used to hang out here, drink beer and shoot pool by the hour. Outside of moving the pool tables to the front of the bar and a stage in back, it looks much like I remember it. It was perfect for a late night drink, listen to some live music and eat pub food. Our service was solid. The Gemini is what it is and how it looks pretty much describes it. An old school bar from when old school bars were not old school.
My first experience here was terrible.
A friend and I wanted to grab some food and a quick drink one night so we stopped by Gemini. Upon entering we were completely ignored by the bartender for about five minutes as we stood there and she alternated with looking at her phone and talking to her friends sitting at the bar. She finally asked what we wanted. I asked if the kitchen was still open, she turned around to yell at the guy to not close up. He promptly yelled back profanity. I told her that if it was an issue I would just get a drink. She said no, he was already going to stay, so what did I want to eat. Food and drink were good enough, but upon getting our tickets we were charged full price instead of the happy hour price. The bartender said our order was placed after the cut off time and despite the fact that was due to her ignoring us and not submitting our order for fifteen minutes after ordering, would not change the price.
So I was dismayed when a group of of about fifteen friends wanted to meet here one night. I went anyway, and ended up having a really good time. There was a large table of us, and despite this the waitress kept up with all of our drinks and was very sweet. Sure, the other patrons are not exactly my type of people, but we did get the excitement of seeing a woman get kicked out for trying to smoke weed in the bar then argue with the bouncer.
All in all, I would not recommend this to anyone, but it is bearable when you are here for a group event.
