Horrible experience. We arrived early and noticed several parties arriving after us with no reservations who, as friends of the hosts/hostesses got good tables before we did. We were offered a table after 45 minutes that was right next to the bar and would have resulted in our being butted by bar patrons so we waited even longer. Service was slow and our food was unacceptable - overdone tasteless burgers, soggy fries, drink orders forgotten. There are so many great restaurants - please refrain from wasting your time at this one. We prefer Patrick's or Pig and Fiddle in Edina to this horrible place.

Great beer selection, very good burgers, excellent staff. It is also family friendly!!

Nothing not to like as far as I am concerned.

For Fridays, my coworkers and I went out to lunch. In one of the first nice Fridays, we decided to enjoy some sunshine and sit outside on the porch. This seemed like a great idea, until we realized that the table was solid metal (not the grated kind, a solid sheet of metal), and with the sun shining down, it made it a challenge. We managed to deal with it, but I definitly think it is something to consider if you are considering sitting outside.

I decided to try the Turkey Sandwich and was pleasantly suprised by the flavor. I can't say it was worth the money, but the flavor was good. The price seems a bit inflated for what they actually serve. Another coworker ordered the NY strip burger and said she really enjoyed it, the other 2 meals were asian salad and veggie burger, they appeared mediocore but they didnt complain.

Overall, i would say give this place a shot, but i definitly think they could come down a smidge on their prices for the portions they give compared to competitors.

I miss the "old" Gold Nugget... I guess I'm a bit nostalgic so let's just move on.

The burgers are greasy and a huge variety! I love the fried egg on your burger. I always order the cheddar cheese curds because what is better then fried cheese? The GN is family friendly and my daughter loves the Mac n Cheese.

Now the good stuff... Large bar w quite a few TV's, awesome beer list with many seasonal and local brews. Wine list is ok but who orders a burger w/ wine?

Service can be hit and miss...regardless it's a neighborhood joint with outside seating.

    I will be back.

Sub par food with service that could be worked on. You really get the feeling that the management and the staff could care less if you were there. I have given it numerous chances and finally am throwing in the towel after my most recent visit.

After consulting my food coach, legendary food and dip extraordinaire Andrew James Ditka Hoffer, I decided to make the trip west on Excelsior Boulevard to a restaurant called simply "The Gold Nugget".

Upon our 9:15pm arrival we were greeted instantly by a hostess and seeing as the restaurant was relatively empty we were given the option of a high-top chair or booth. We elected to go with the booth option and were seated right away. After scouring the drink menu for a quick minute or two the waitress arrived and was very knowledgeable of the bars rotating menu of beer on tap. I opted to go for one of my favorites a Bell's Two Hearted Ale. Much to my accomplices dismay Michelob Golden Draft Light was not on tap and she opted for a Blue Moon. The bars beer list is extensive, but only possess smaller high quality micro-brews on tap (light beers are here in bottles). Shortly thereafter the large beers (approx 22 oz "talls") were delivered ice cold. With fresh cold beers in hand the server eloquently described some of her favorite dishes including the "burger special"*** which after hearing the description I decided to order, in lieu of my predetermined scouring of the menu online and against my food coaches scouting report. My lady friend opted for a classic Stadium Cheeseburger.

The dishes arrived shortly after at the correct temperature and doneness with each burger pre-sliced in half (I enjoy this)***** my burger, the Cinco de Mayo themed special, was a burger surrounded by a jalapeno cheddar tortilla instead of a bun. The meat patty was a combination of beef, spicy chorizo, and wild rice formed into a rather large inch thick patty. The burger was then wrapped on both sides by melted colby jack cheese, with the top portion covered with lettuce and chipotle mayo before being tightly wrapped by the yellow and green flecked tortilla. Accompanying my burger was pico de gallo and avocado on the side (as per my request) also I received a serving of cheese dip which would prove to be identical to the cheese dip that accompanied my lady friend's cheeseburger. I was told by my all-star waitress she made an executive decision to bring the cheese with my burger because in her words "it's awesome with it."

This burger tasted unlike any burger I have had in a very good way. The patty infused with wild rice and chorizo sausage was a tad bit spicy, which went perfectly in combination with the iceberg lettuce and chipotle mayo. The lack of bun, which at first I believed to be a bit of a concern, turned out to work for the best. The tortilla allowed for maximum grip for me to plummet it deep into my cheese cup and the "wrapping" process of my burger allowed for the cheese to melt on all sides of the burger. The stadium cheese was not to be confused with ultra orange pretzel goo that comes from actually stadiums, but a much less plastic-y smooth cheese sauce which was indeed excellent when used as a dip. The burger was so good I didn't even opt to add the pico de gallo or avocado. I hope this burger makes the regular menu because I would definitely order it again. My side dish was coleslaw and even it was on-point, but nothing special to write about.

My lady friend's burger was a classic cheeseburger with the twist of having a pretzel-style style role. I was fortunate enough to have a taste of her burger before she finished the whole thing. (a rare occurrence) Her meal was also accompanied by the aforementioned cheese dipping sauce and I quickly connected the dots and appreciated the cheese and pretzel combination. The pretzel and cheese combination really makes the otherwise cheese-less stadium burger something special and a deservedly regular menu item. I definitely would eat this again. (Maybe with bacon!) Her side dish was hand cut fries which also were good, very similar to a fry served from 5 Guys.

We finished up our meal with a NY Style Chocolate Turtle Cheesecake which was very soft and tasted homemade. It was a normal size piece, nothing large and extravagant, but was drizzled with a caramel sauce.

Overall our dining experience was top-notch.

    Robby's Official Scores:

Cinco de Mayo themed burger: 8/10 - "Would tell a friend to try it."
Bite of Stadium Cheeseburger: 6/10 - "Wouldn't prevent a friend from ordering it."

Service: 9/10 (Nice call on the cheese sauce)
    Beer Selection: 7/10

*** Golden Nugget has a new burger special every week
*****Pre-Slicing allows you to check and see if your burger is done/not done enough plus also allows for the cheese and other items to drip down and look awesome.

Although not cheap, the burgers are really good! You can get a vairety of options. My daughter loves the kids mac and cheese, and although we usually get regular or sweet potato fires, we have never been disappointed with the onion rings. It's big, gets crowded, but has a decent turnover rate. Large bar with good beer selection, and lots of televisions for the sports fans! They do have a party room.

I have been to The Gold Nugget more times and have tried an array of items on the menu. I had the NY Sirloin burger and I was pleasantly surprised. Cooked to a mid rare and tasted great. I am impressed with the Mac and Cheese too. Service has always been pleasant and the atmosphere lively. Now if I can only get my at&t phone to work inside the tavern!

We just moved down the street and decided to check this place out.

I really like how you can get a plain ol greasy 'dive like' burger but then if you feel different, they have a variety of fun toppings - egg, avo, and patties(bison, non meat).

The shakes and floats are great.  You can skip the dessert, cupcakes were kind of dry.

Our server was really busy.  She took our order and we never saw her again.  However, the manager was on top of it, didn't miss a step.

Since its in the neighborhood and pretty decent for burgers, we'll be back.

The tater tots are fantastic, but careful they'll blow up all over you.  Great burgers etc the food is quite good.  Sure its noisy and busy but hey, aren't all good places busy and maybe a bit noisy?  If you're hungry, want a nice pint and happen to be in the area I'd stop by.

Oh Nugget. Sometimes I love you, sometimes you make my stomach hurt.

The Nugget is right down the street from my house, and while I love most of their food, the portion sizes are HUGE (too huge - you'll need a to go box unless you're fighting the good fight against diabetes and a heart attack), the fries - sweet potato or normal - are always just a little too greasy, and I'm always just ... meh.

Certain things - like the cheeseburger wontons - are really good. Again, they're huge, and could definitely be a meal on their own. They serve a salad with chicken and mangoes that is unreal, unique, and very good.

The Gold Nugget has one thing that is always consistent - good service. I'm not the biggest fan of their food, but their service is always so good. The servers keep your drinks full and your tables clean, and to me, that is one of the most important parts of dining.

The food is never bad, it's just too heavy, too greasy, and just overall too much. I'll keep going back, for sure, but when it comes time to pick a place to eat, it's never my first suggestion.

While on one of our sporadic trips to Minnesota, we thought we'd try the award winning burgers at the Gold Nugget. In the home of the Juicy Lucy, it's still nice to have a regular old thick and juicy burger (though the Gold Nugget has two versions of the Juicy Lucy on their menu). The restaurant is clean, despite being crowded and noisy, but nevertheless a nice place.

First, I had the French onion soup, a descent cup of a soup that's hard to mess up, still delicious. Next were the buffalo wings, grilled and tossed in a homemade sauce, which is good considering how easy it is to buy Frank's red hot buffalo sauce, which were good enough to put in the top ten. Finally, the burger. From the choice between 'pink' or 'no pink' centers, I chose 'pink'. Although the burger was barely pink at all, it was still ridiculously juicy. I got mine topped with cheddar, not-crispy-but-good thick-cut bacon, and a slightly spicy and very tasty homemade Sriracha mayo. The burger was great, but not the best. Definitely good enough to win an award. Fresh cut fries come with every burger, and they're perfectly cooked-crispy on the outside and as pillowy as a mashed potato on the inside. They can be served sprinkled with your choice of seasoning: I chose Cajun, which had a nice kick without being at all spicy. So, not the greatest place, but as far as burgers, fries, and pub food goes, it's very good.

We had a rehearsal dinner at the Gold Nugget a few months ago and decided to go back and try it another time too.  So we went last night for dinner.  They were on a wait so we grabbed a drink at the bar.  The atmosphere was really great... definitely our kind of place.   The food was great.  I had the turkey sandwich which was great!  I got sweet potato fries...and it was a huge serving of them.  Those were the best sweet potato fries that I've ever had.   My boyfriend got the jalapeno juicy lucy which was good too.  We've had juicy lucy's at the 5-8 club, but we thought this was better!  He also loved his french fries.   We'll definitely be back  and next time I really want to try a malt!

Traveling through the area, from out of town, i was to meet a friend in about 30 minutes.  I found this place and it looked good.  I was hungry, so i ordered clam chowder while waiting for my friend.
I have had clam BROTH with more substance and , flavor than their clam CHOWDER. It was Thin watery, clam slivers, & a few diced potato. Not enough to fill up a spoon.
I grew up in New England.  Clam chowder is thick, creamy, not colored white water. I have had good clam chowder in Minnesota,  so  I know Thin watery clam chowder, is not regional to this area.

It is isolated to Golden Nugget.     I ate the soup, and when i said to the waitress, how thin and flavorless it was, she offered not to charge me.  I paid, called my friend, and told him i was leaving, and will pick another place to meet.

I am giving the Gold Nugget a 3 at best. First of all, it never replaced the real Gold Nugget. Getting past that, the beer and bar is great. it's a fine place to have an after work gathering but the food isn't really very good. I had the grilled pineapple and spinach salad. My idea of grilled pineapple would be a slice of fresh pineapple on the grill. Their idea was canned pineapple and not really grilled. I had one slice of a strawberry in my salad. Truth be told I didn't go there for the food but because it was in my old neighborhood and it's lively. So if you want a fun environment and fair food it's fine.

This is a great restaurant because the food is outstanding (and I'm not just talking about the burgers), the atmosphere is perfect for this type of tavern/grill style, and the service is very good. If you are like me and love quality American food, then you must try the gold nugget; it will not disappoint!

I've wanted to check out Gold Nugget for a while & since we had a house guest last weekend and I'm not much of a cook, we had the perfect excuse to go.

The interior reminds me of McCoy's in SLP; dark wood with a dining room to your left & the bar to your right. We sat near the bar & started with their signature gold nuggets; cheddar-filled tater tots with a side of bacon-chive dipping sauce . These are a must-get! There were 9 on our plate so definitely good for sharing.

For my entrée I ordered the signature grilled cheese on parmesan crusted sourdough with avocado and bacon. It was very good but I wished I would have ordered a burger by the looks of the rest of our table! The sweet potato fries are some of the best I've had - definitely get them over the other choices.

Gold Nugget is a great excuse to get out of the city & try something new!

On 30/3/2012 i returned to the nugget. It was for my last day at work party. The service was very good and the whisky was very very cheap for a restaurant. The food was as good as the last time i was there. We had no complaints. This place was very very busy . The people were lined up outside waiting to get in. This is a good sign of the quality of service and food you get here. There cheese curds were divine!! OMG i can still taste them lol. The ribs where ok they lacked flavor but yet still good. The drink specials were amazing. Our server gave us some drinks on drink special even after the time. I highly recommend this place. PS... make sure you get reservations..

My one and only neighborhood bar is a good one. Terry always has interesting drafts and seasonal beer dinners that are a lot of fun.

The peels are a must! And opt for a fried egg on your burger. ..You won't be disappointed. Agree that the stadium burger rocks.

We go to The Nugget at least twice per month. Sometimes for dinner with the kids, sometimes for a drink and some apps at the old-fashioned bar. The service is good and so is the food especially the burgers. Get there early, it fills up fast and parking is only adequate.

    TRY THE CHEESE CURDS!!!

The Golden Nugget uses rice flour for their batter for their cheese curds so the fried shell is light and crispy, this is accompanied by a stone ground mustard that will be a hit with any mustard lover, or if desired request with ranch dressing...who wouldn't like that?

    TRY THE STADIUM BURGER

The stadium burger is your run of the mill burder, except that it is served on two salted pretzel halves, jalapenos,  with real stadium nacho cheese for dipping! The nacho cheese is not some fancy sh-mancy creation nor is it a flavorless thickened yellow liquid, the NACHO CHEESE IS LITERALLY THE SAME NACHO CHESE WE ALL LOVE TO EAT WITH OUR NACHOS AT ANY BALL GAME.

5th star withheld due spotty service.

Best burgers we've ever had, and we've had them everywhere (matts, 508, Vincent, Mannys, Lions Tap, etc.) Great atmosphere and service too!

Their burger of the week (new each and every week) is usually quite good. Great onion rings as well.

I'm really shocked they don't have a higher Yelp rating - strange.

    GREATEST. SWEET POTATO FRIES EVER!!!

I'm not joking. I love sweet potato fries. My friend raved about the GN and they were amazing. Sweet dipping sauce too!

Turkey burger was very good on the pretzel roll. I would recommend to anyone in the Minneapolis area.

When we first walked into this place I was impressed.  It's got a fun atmosphere to it and the bar area is very inviting.  There's some TVs scattered around and It reminds me a little of a "mini" Champps.

On the menu there are lots of options for sandwiches, burger, salads, etc. but for some reason I was having trouble making up my mind on what to order.  They have weekly burger specials and claim to never have any repeats (in 52 weeks).  That tells me they really like to get creative.  I was tempted to try their weekly special "black bean tostada" burger but ordered the "original gold nugget burger instead.  For what seemed to be a signature item and a place that specializes in burgers I have to say I was disappointed. My bun was soggy (I like it crispy).  I asked for cheese on it (and it came without any). You do get several options for sides and I went with the sweet potatoes fries which were good. My girlfriend felt the same about her burger and my husband said his walleye sandwich was just "ok".

Even though the food didn't meet my standards I like the ambiance here so I'd go back.  It's worth stopping by if you're nearby.

Went there on a Saturday night and waited about 30 minutes to be seated. That was expected as just last night they were on the news for best burger.
I was looking forward to trying the original burger because of what I saw on tv. Then I look to see that each extra topping costs extra, from .50 - 1.00 more. It can get expensive. I decided on a cheeseburger. It was very good but not worth the price.
We also got the golden nuggets - cheese filled hashbrowns. Definitely not worth it. It was $8 for 8 nuggets that weren't even that great.
I'd probably go back to try it again but next time I'll skip the appetizer.
Service was so-so but they were very busy. I'll wait til the buzz dies down a bit before going back.

Again, this is a hard one to rate because I was here for the Goose Island Beer Dinner.  The experience I had there was probably deserving of 5 stars but I doubt their regular menu is as good so I knocked it down one to 4.  The dinner started out with Grilled Vegetable Antipasto with Crostini, Herbed Chevre and Balsamic paired with 312.  Second course was Pan-seared Halibut with Clementine Gremolata and Wilted Greens paired with Sofie.  Main course was Grilled Lamb Rack with Chimmichurri and Olive Oil Crushed Potatoes paired with Matilda.  The dessert was a Chocolate Stout Cake with Salted Caramel Ice Cream (from Izzy's) paired with my favorite, Bourbon County Stout.

The chef did an excellent job on the pairings and all the courses were cooked to perfection.

I love Yelp because it's the only website I know where I can truly trash a restaurant and know that people will actually listen.

    So, hear me out.

If you're like me, someone who is flexitarian, you'd hate this place. I was told they have amazing burgers. So I decided to go with a meatless burger, aka the southwest bean burger. Whoever decided to prepare a burger bigger than its bun totally shouldn't operate their own restaurant. I'm serious. My buns were so soggy, I couldn't eat it! Second of all, these types of restaurants are the reason why for the first time in YEARS, life expectancy for Americans today will be shorter than former generations. Say whaaaat? Yes. It really is in our diet guys, so I really do hope that restaurants like this need to rethink the way they serve food. Less is good...

So I made it back to the Nugget to try their food and have some more great tap beers.  Upon entering I noticed 2 things; 1) This place was freaking packed!!  I guess it was friday night.  2)  All the tap beers I came hear to enoy were now gone!!!  WTF???

The Nugget apparently pulled a deal with Great lake breweries out of Ohio to put 5 of their craft beers on tap.  I have to admit i was pisssed, my previous experience with Great Lakes Beer were unflattering.  Being the beer whore that I am, I decided to give them another try.  After all I haven't had any of the five on tap.  The IPA was pretty damn good, the Porter was robust and roasty and the Amber was a good low body finishing beer.  Thumbs up, crisis averted!!

Now for the Food, Great Burgers!!  I had the Juicy Lucy with a few finishing touches added (Bacon and a Fried egg of course!).  Fries were awesome and the siracha (?) Mayo was bomb.  Overall very happy with the burgers, service and ambiance.  Price of the burgers was another matter!  The Juicy lucy started at $11 without anything else on it.  Cheese was another $1, Bacon $2 and The Fried Egg $2.  $16 for a bad ass burger seems alot to me.  Worth a try once i guess!

Came here today with some coworkers for my birthday and it didn't disappoint.  We all ordered burgers and every last one of us was very impressed.  I ordered a wild rice burger topped with a portobello and white cheddar.  The thing was a monster of a burger but it fit in my belly quite nicely.  They also had a nice selection of beers on tap that I will extensively sample in an after work environment.

The prices seemed a bit steep to me at first but once the food hit the table it was justified.  The fries and rings were top notch too.

If only this place wasn't in BFE.....

I had no idea what to expect when I got here, but somehow they were able to accommodate our party of 14 (which included two young children) right before a Vikings game came on.  I kept hearing about how Minnesotans are really into their teams  and how amazing they were doing.  (So naturally I was disappointed to come all the way out there and watch them lose at home).  But I digress...

They had a pretty good beer selection it looked like, and they served both short and tall glasses of what they had on tap.  If you're like me and wanted to try something that you're only going to get in MN, apparently the Jalapeno Juicy Lucy is what you're going to order.  I guess what is special is that the cheese is inside the patty.  I don't quite know if it measured up to the hype, but their portions are decent and they have sound from the games piped into the bathrooms so you don't miss any of the game.  Overall it was a pleasant dining experience despite the chaos and crowd.

I must admit I returned to the nugget a skeptic! We had eaten at the original nugget many a times and I loved it there. The burgers were great, fries very solid and I loved the fact it was not frills, wine or beer and a great little place to meet friends. When I saw the way they had dolled up the new Nugget I thought to myself "great another over the top yuppie-burb spot catering to the m-class". Well they may have that design but the atmosphere inside still seems to have a strong neighborhood feel and the food here was much better than I expected.

They have stayed with the traditional Burger motif and from my 1st experience they have done a very good job with it. I had the Black and Blue burger with caramelized onions and both cheddar and blue cheese. The flavours were perfect. The onions were very well done and had a nice sweet taste. Bun was good, burger was moist and tender and the combinations of the cheeses were perfect. I was not expecting much and was impressed to the last bite. I will say as well the fries were every bit as good as the burger. Very thin cut and crispy.

Another big nod goes for the tarter sauce which was very obviously made fresh, not a lot of places do that. My wife ordered the fish which could have been a little crispier on the outside. It was a little soggy but again the tarter sauce covered that over in my mind at least.

The service was very good. We sat outside on the patio and enjoyed a nice fall (August but feels like fall) night. Waiter was friendly and came around just the right number of times.

One last comment about the food - Home Made Pickles! These were very tasty. I always like a place that will take a time, save a jar and make pickles themselves. In my opinion it shows that you take pride in "Everything" on the plate, not just the main items.

I do miss the feel of the old nugget and love the dive burger joint that is almost extinct in suburbs these days but at least this place held on to the belief of a very good burger. I know I'll be back but probably not until I have tried more of the other great burger places that surround me.

Glen Lake is as cool a neighborhood as you'll find in the 'burbs and the new Gold Nugget is great...spacious, great beer selection, simple but good menu, clean, nice staff...all in all, a great addition given the chain restaurant in a strip mall options that dominate the suburban zip codes.

The old Gold Nugget, a dive bar with a grill staffed by long time characters, is a genre that is almost extinct and we are worse off for it.  Remember the old Will Hop Inn not too far away?  Those places are dying fast and the only ones left are either in small towns or neighborhoods in the city; the breed no longer exists in the suburbs.

If you live in the surrounding area, the Gold Nugget deserves a slice of your dining dollar.

Mayonnaise. A good gauge for a restaurant's ingredient quality is how good is their mayonnaise. More on that in a minute.

The HOLE that was the Gold Nugget is now gone, and the new place only bears resemblance in the name, which the current owners purchased. The old place was dirty, the new place is clean. The old had no windows, and the new is lined with them. The old had "your-in-a-dive-bar" service, and the new has a full wait staff. The old had a 5 person bar and the new holds 20+. The old had disgusting indoor-outhouses, and the new has spacious contemporary restrooms. The old Nugget was a dive bar that sold cheap hamburgers. The new place is a restaurant with general dining area, huge bar area, huge patio area, and I think they even have a private rental room.

My wife and I have been to the new Gold Nugget 3 times already. That is indicative of how bad the southwest suburbs are in need of a restaurant that is casual and isn't a chain. The food was good all 3 times even if it is a little bit expensive (about $30.00 for 2 people having burgers and a beer). We all enjoyed the Gold Nugget original burger each time and I loaded mine with cheddar, thick cut bacon and slices of avocado (killer). I did order the Kobe burger once, but to be honest I didn't notice a significant upgrade so I would say skip it. But, do not skip the house salad which is a great add-on to split with another person. Fresh & crisp with good greens, tomato, and shredded cheddar. A very good bleu cheese to go with it, which I recommend on the side as opposed to having it tossed in it. The fries are the long shoestring type and very good.

Which brings me back to Mayonnaise. It is a condiment/ingredient that many times in restaurants gets skimped on. If the mayo is high-quality most of the time all of the rest of the ingredients are too. The new Nugget hasn't skimped. I enjoy mayo with my burger, AND my fries, which I realize isn't the flave for everyone. But, some of you out there know what I am talking about, and to those I say get your mayo with confidence that come-in-a-single-serving-packet, convenience store, petroleum based gelly will not arrive at the table.

In reference to the other review listed here I can say that the service is not stupendous. In fact it definitely needs work, and I would rate it slightly above mediocre, which is not good when you see how many people are working there. But, the place is very new, and is obviously working out some tweaks.

Overall I really like the new place. The food is good, and the prices & service are decent. The location is perfect for there is a severe dearth of decent food in the area. If you want to the tiny dive that it used to be head to The Nook in St Paul. Their burgers are absolutely amazing, and all you have to do is wait in a closet for an hour to get to sit at a table the size of a stamp to get one (aka it's "cozy").  If you want a casual walk in any time, sit down at a big table that is not 6-inches from the next guy, enjoy some quality eats, and not need to go to the Fridays Factory (ack!) then head to the new Gold Nugget

The finest burger in the twin cities in the absolute friendliest atmosphere in town.  Sit down order a shell dark, have Chad or Al grab you a bacon cheeseburger with fried onions and an order of onion rings.  Grin mischeviously knowing that you can now die having had the greatest burger of all time.  This is the "Cheers" of burger joints, If you come enough they just might immortalize you with a picture on the wall.

Make sure to stick your business card on their bulletin board for all others to see....you came, you ate, you conquered.  Get there soon; they are moving soon and I fear that the atmosphere will not be retained.
