Edina Grill

I really wanted to love this place...it's so close to our house and it's on 50th and France (makes for a nice little date night).  We sat at the bar, had a very helpful bartender.  I really like their selection of local tap beers (and the bartender told us they do specials on the first Tuesday of each month with local beer masters - so that might be something we go check out).  

As for food, we started with the buffalo calamari, which was pretty good.  For main courses, I had the steak & pierogis and my wife, the beet salad with goat cheese.  I really liked her salad (and probably would have been great with steak on it), but my steak and pierogis were just OK.  I asked for medium rare on the steak, but it was more of a medium well.  The pierogis were kind of dry, but decent flavor.  3 stars probably seems a little harsh, but Mpls restaurants are getting so good that I have to save up those 4's and 5's for truly exceptional food.  We will probably be back, but mainly for local beers and apps (which is probably where their strength is).

I have to say, that I was really disappointed on my last visit to Edina Grill. My husband and I dine at the Blue Plate restaurants (Hyland Grill, Longfellow Grill and Edina Grill) a few times a year and usually enjoy it. We have experienced sketchy service quality though. Sometimes it is great and sometimes it sucks.

We went to Edina Grill on a whim a couple weeks ago when we were in the area. We each got the specials. I got fried chicken, he got a pork belly sandwich. For the prices, neither of these dishes was up to par. The mashed potatoes and gravy served with the chicken were so generic that they might as well have been out of a box/jar. The chicken was moist but lacked in flavor.  My husbands pork belly sandwich was so impossible to eat that I can't imagine how it made it on a menu. The concept is good but the execution is horrible. We know that pork belly is generally fatty but his piece was so fatty that in the end, he barely ate any of the meat with his sandwich.

The only highlight of our meal there was the awesome beer selection.

It really makes me think about going back to any of the restaurants again.

Yum. Seriously. Knowledgeable servers combined with mouth watering food make for an excellent experience. The menu is odd enough to be intriguing but not scary enough to deter a picky eater. We will certainly return here!
