I've been to this Golden Corral several times. Â The food is midrange, the prices just a bit higher than the food actually warrants, but they have let me take up a table for hours while studying.
After my most recent experience, however, I'm not happy at all.
I usually go by myself or with my spouse, but in this case we were a small group.
My spouse, our adult daughter and her partner, and a couple who are our friends arrived on a moderately busy afternoon; were taken to a table with empty tables around it -- no-one seated there yet, notice that -- got our food and began the meal.
Soon after, a family with two toddlers and a slightly older child -- perhaps kindergarten age -- were seated behind my daughter, fully in my line of sight, and the middle child proceeded to physically assault my daughter. Â Struck her on the back of the head and pulled her hair -- and this was not accidental. Â The child STOOD UP IN HER CHAIR AND TURNED AROUND TO DO THIS. Â
After calling this to the attention of the parents and being told to mind our own business, then switching seats with my daughter whereupon the assault continued I got the manager and requested to have the other family moved as we had been seated first. Â I was told that "It's a family restaurant; if you don't like it you can go elsewhere."
HOW is this to be expected at a family restaurant?
The food was alright. Nothing really stood out as fantastic, blow your mind. At the time we went (March 2010), they were having a seafood promotion with catfish, tilapia, coconut shrimp, scallops, crabcakes, and a few more. Not everything was fried which was a good thing. Had your standard buffet fare. Hosts were friendly. Server was perky and even had time to chat. For the price, you can't beat a buffet!
Review Source:This place smelled like a sneeze. The dusty, hanging ferns freaked me out as they hovered over everyone's table. Â The lukewarm colorful plates made the gelatinous glazed-everything even less appetizing. I found myself tray in hand searching and searching for something to eat. However, everything looked completely nasty. I finally decided to try a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Let's just say even the mac n' cheese was awful. I know. I know. How can you go wrong? Well, you can here. I ended up eating three bread rolls (AMAZING) and a cupcake and walking out with a case of diabetes. Maybe it was the wealth of obese men donning overalls that turned my stomach, who knows? But, what I DO know is that I won't ever be back. No way. Yucky.
Review Source:When you want to eat and you want to eat now and you dont mind feeling like you just walked into your local senior citizens home, it's hard to beat this place. The rolls with honey spread are delish and for dessert, the bread pudding is AMAZING. So many choices and their food isnt bland like your typical buffets. Wear your elastic waistbands and be close to home before the food coma sets in.
Review Source:As far as general buffets go, Golden Corral is one of the better ones. Yeah, the place can be an artery clogger and cholesterol booster but you can easily find lighter fare if you are able to exercise control over your impulses. The pot roast is usually pretty decent and there is a variety of home cooked style offerings. The salads are usually pretty fresh and the green beans are very good. The shrimp and deep fried fish are usually pretty over-battered and over-cooked... like most buffets. The place is reasonably priced... especially if you're hungry, over 60, and go between 2 and 4 P.M. When I'm in the area and exceptionally hungry I will visit the Golden Corral... If I'm looking for a dining experience, I'll try something else.
