Grandad's is one of my favorite spots to hang out when I'm in OKC. The drinks are reasonable and the staff is great.
There was a $5 cover when I there last time and I didn't have any cash. The door man let me go to the bar and use my card to get cash out. When I went back to give him the money, he bought me a beer for being honest. Let's go!!
My only complaint about this place is the noise level. I love live music and the acts that I have seen perform here have been awesome. The problem is that everything is turned up too loud and you end up having to yell to hear anyone around you. Really not a huge problem, but a slight inconvenience.
Overall, Grandad's is a great place to meet up with friends in the OKC metro. Check it out!
On a visit to OKC during Father's day weekend (2013), I had Grandad's Bar on the top of my list to check out given its catchy name. Â From reading the OK Gazette, the owner wanted to have a bar dedicated to his grandfather. Â The bar is simple in nature with old school furniture and decor from the 1950's to 1970's era with twists of modern day technology such as a flat screen plasma and xbox!
Regarding the crowd, I have to report a few Grandad's were in attendance during the 2013 Father's day weekend. Â I guess they were making sure their grand daughters were behaving or perhaps having a brew with their grandsons!
Despite a few Grandad's and Grandma's present in Grandad's Bar, the crowd age was mostly in their mid 20's to late 30's. Â I was also impressed with the male to female ratio as there wasn't too many grandad's, dad's, or dad's to be roaming around. Â
On this particular night a live country music band was performing right in front of the entrance. Â The dance floor was big enough for folks who wanted to two-step while allowing others to pass by. Â Best of all, there was not a cover or line to get in!
The only negative was bar service. Â Ordering three beers and three other types of drinks did take a bit longer than usual; however, the bartender apologized and our repeated orders were expedited. Â The excellent customer service continued as the manager shook our hands as we left and thanked us for coming in! Â Given this experience, I'll definitely visit to Grandad's in the future.
2 visits down. Nifty bar. Not a smokey one. Very crowded on weekends. Not so much on weekdays. Love the lounge chairs and board games for entertainment. It makes me feel like I'm at a coffee shop that serves booze! Writing on the walls in the bathroom. Bring a sharpie if you want to leave your mark.
Saturday is country night, if you're into that sorta thing.
