I hit up The Grease Monkey for lunch today as part of my "find new places to eat lunch quest", and I was pleasantly surprised! Some of the reviews seemed real hit and miss but I decided to make the quick drive down Division and check it out. I guess it was obvious that it was our first time there and the girl taking our order was VERY helpful in explaining the procedure. We placed our order and proceeded to the dining area that is decorated like a garage with a nice size bar on one half and a dining area on the other half. The kids immediately head over to throw a few quarters in Pac-Man while I sit back and take in the atmosphere. I didn't find the music to be too loud as others have said but I was there at lunch and I am sure for dinner the atmosphere can be totally different.
As far as the food goes, I thought it was pretty damn good. I had the Black and Blue burger with sweet potato tots while my wife built her own mushroom burger. The kids had grilled cheese and chicken strips, both of which I sampled...how can I give a proper review without trying everything, right? :)
My burger was absolutely fantastic and the sweet potato tots were an excellent compliment to the sharpness of the blue cheese. The bun could have been a meal by itself....it was soft, fresh and had a wonderful taste to it. Whatever they do to it, keep doing it please.
All in all it was a great lunch spot and I will definitely return.
Burgers were really pretty good. Â We loved the bun, kind of Hawaiian and grilled real nice. Â Meat was fresh and the fries were decent. Â You add your own condiments from the cooler, if you can find it. Â At least signs like "Condiments Here" written on the hood of a car and move them closer to where you pick up the food. Â And, shouldn't they be covered like a salad bar? Â
We were there early on Saturday 11:30. Â So they had just opened for the day and it should have been cleaner. The stage was full of crumbs from Friday night's party. Â I just wanted to get up rearrange the place, sweep, clean and move the condiment station. Â Two people could have the dining room clean in less than hour. Â This place needs a Mom. Â
All that said, it is a dive and that is what it strives to be. Â I like dives.
Love the atmosphere more than anything. Had the Black & Blue burger, nothing special a little short on the bleu cheese sadly. Queso was pretty disappointing and but the onion rings were pretty good.
Service was pretty good. Took a bit to get greeted but after that I have no complaints.
All in all, I'd go back again. oh and great music as well!
In need of a local, casual, bar in Arlington? The Grease Monkey should do you fine. I've been here three times now since they opened, and had a decent experience each time.
Food? Not too shabby. However, seriously heavy on the salt/sodium. After one burger, I find myself throwing back water like I was coming out of a desert. It's insane. The Black & Blue was tasty, and I'm sure not healthy. But, hey, yolo, right?
Chipotle Sweet Potato Tots are rather good, as are the shoestring onion rings. Really very good (salty, though. really... really salty.)
My only gripe was the vodka-tonic I ordered: flat as all get out. Even a second one after she 'fixed' the issue was relatively flat. Mildly warm too.
The option to sit along the bar on the 'outside' is pretty cool on days/evenings when the weather is nice. The guy playing the other night on the stage was really pretty good, too.
Overall, a good local hangout in Arlington.
I had never heard of this place until I saw a Groupon offering food at, basically, half price. I'm glad I saw the Groupon.
The place has a very "garage"-type feel. Don't let the dark looks fool you, though, the food is great! The burgers are served on toasted buns and you get the opportunity to put on whatever toppings you want from the topping bar. The burgers have just the right amount of grease for flavor, but if you are into healthy food, this is probably not the place for you.
For lunch, try the special 1/3 pound burger and fries. Just enough food for lunch, and a great price! (I won't post it here on Yelp since prices change.)
It is located in downtown Arlington, near some other larger restaurants, so it may be hard to find at first, but look for it. The food is worth it. On weekends, they offer live bands performing on the (small) stage. When the weather is good, the back wall opens up and half the place is "open air" dining. Normally, there is a small patio for outside dining.
Not sure what it is about the latest rave in burger joints, but many seem to have adopted the bare bones trashed garage type atmosphere for the dining experience and super loud music to drown out any possible conversation.
Here tonight w/hubby and mother and father in law....food was ok, service ok, drinks ok. Â We started with the chips, queso and salsa for $5 each which seemed a little pricey as they are not huge. Â
Hubby got the veggie burger, with a ton of stuff added on. Â I got the chicken fried bacon chipotle bbq sauce burger. Â FIL got a plain c-burger and MIL got the portobello mushroom burger (which was the mushroom on top of a burger patty). Â No one raved about any of the food.
They have a little toppings bar, with 2 types of lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles and jalapenos, but nothing seemed overly fresh or tasty.
My burger was $8.00 plus drink and onion rings, so as for value, it's not much of one.
Thursday night is 'song writer night' and they had some dood up there singing cover songs (ie. mellencamp, etc)....too loud, not great music and it really detracted from the whole dining w/the in-laws experience.
Possibly will try again, but not in a big hurry to. Â Happy eating!
Went there just yesterday for the first time to support the Nevil Family Benefit "Lolo Palooza" that The Grease Monkey sponsored. Â Had the basic cheeseburger that was part of the benefit menu......Wow, awesome Burger!!!!! Â I took a bite of it even before I dressed it up with the condiments. Â Geeze, either I don't get out much, or that is really one awesome burger. Â Will make the drive over from Flower Mound again just to try some of their other burgers on the menu. Â It's a no frills burger joint with good food, music, and laid back environment. Â So what if you have to go one area to get your meal and another to get your condiments. Â A good place to people watch as you move around. Â Local entertainment sounded great on the stage. Â Obviously you can't eat there everyday, but when you need a good burger fix, go there.
Review Source:It's a really great burger place with tons of add-ons. If you want to do sports n stuff, HEY! Huge TVs! A couple arcade games too. They forgot some stuff on my friend's burger but very quickly gave her the goods on the side.
Everyone was nice and it's decently priced for the huge portion.
I LOVE Grease Monkey! The buns are to die for and it's a great addition to a revamped downtown Arlington. Trust me, as a person who has grown up in Arlington it is so refreshing to see a restaurant that is not a chain.
With that being said, I love the open bar area. Great place to watch a sporting event or check out live music when you don't want to drive to Dallas or Fort Worth.
Yum!
I feel like my first review should be for a place I really love to frequent, but this is the most recent restaurant I've eaten at so instead I'm going to review it.
Decor - A little dingy. The room is fairly dark, and the environment is kind of the tattered bar-type. However I think that's the style they're going for. It was just kind of hard to see my food is all. You order in a separate room where the kitchen is right in front, and eat in like the back.
Food - I ordered a bacon burger. Not the bacon burger with like chipotle and such, but just a buger with bacon and cheddar. I paid $8, which I think is a bit much for just a burger. I didn't have a drink or sides. The burger itself was pretty bland. Juicy, but bland. The bacon was well, bacon--you can't really mess that up. I think the best part of my burger was the bread. The bun itself was toasted and had some sort of garlic butter seasoning, but was sweet. It was good, albeit greasy.
Near the front of the eating area, the vegetables (lettuce, tomatoes, diced onions, and the like) were stationed with a fan near it. Â The fan was probably there to keep the veggies cool and the flies away. They looked fresh enough, but I was hesitant to put them on my burger. I did anyway though.
Oh. I should mention that about four hours after eating this burger, I started feeling nauseous and threw up. Â My stomach isn't necessarily a weak stomach, but I do tend to feel queasy after eating overly fatty or greasy foods. Which this burger must have been because I didn't have anything else afterwards that would have caused me to become sick.
Overall, I don't recommend this restaurant. Very meh.
First time and probably last time to visit The Grease Monkey.
Good burger, but the wait was way too long during a weekday mid-afternoon. Â With two young kids, having to wait 25 minutes for cheeseburgers at a place that only makes cheeseburgers is not going to work.
The staff wasn't particularly friendly and messed up our order (charging us for a huge appetizer of fried pickles instead of just for the fried pickles my wife asked for on her burger). Â We had been there so long and I was so late getting back to work I didn't even stop to ask them to take the $6 appetizer off of my bill.
I wasn't impressed. Maybe it's because I couldn't figure the place out to save my life. We went last night wanting to eat AND drink but apparently that couldn't happen. You have to enter on one side and order your food, be given a buzzer that they page you on when your food it ready, go to the bar side to order your drink. there are no waitresses on the patio area and only two bartenders on a Friday night so you end up waiting 15 minutes to order a beer.
The condiments where hidden somewhere in the bar area and NOT near the food area. It was all very confusing. I also have issues with being served in a huge metal pan. Ever hear of plates?
So then we are eating and I excuse myself to go find the bathrooms (dirty, next time I'll hold it) only to come back to find that the busboy/mystery waitress picked up my drink while it was still half full...they didn't even bother to ask the person I was with if I was finished or not.
Now as for the taste of the food... it was okay at best. The bun they used is what actually saved them. The Angry burger should have been called the Furious burger cuz it was freaking hot as hell. Not only  that but when looking for ketchup they had none. Well, they didn't have the normal everyday ketchup. They only had ghost pepper ketchup which just made the angry burger even angrier. Their sweet potato tots were lackluster.
And okay, maybe I'm a Canadian snob or something but is the economy in such a bad place that places in Arlington can't afford waitresses? I HATE having to stand in line, order my food, and then go pick it up or have it brought to me. Walking into places like that make me feel like I'm going to McDonald's or Burger King...not out to enjoy a good burger and a few drinks.
Basically, you wouldn't catch me there again.
I'm still a little angry that Jim's is gone. Â Jim's was an Arlington staple, an unsightly pit, and one of the best all around burgers that I've ever had. Â To find out that it was bought and torn down to be replaced by a Capital One banking center was even more disheartening.
However, if there's going to be a burger joint on top of the old Jim's location, it may as well be Grease Monkey. Â There's even a picture of the old Jim's hanging on the wall in the dining room. Â The owners are all Arlington people, so I suppose they knew exactly what had been standing there before them.
Now, I've only ordered one thing at Grease Monkey and for the life of me, I can't order anything else. Â An Angry Burger with sweet potato tots is a helluva meal and it's great. Â The burger is a good size, cooked and seasoned well, and covered in a medley of pepper-themed toppings. Â Fried jalapenos, Â spicy mayo, pepperjack cheese, and then a few just plain peppers as well. Â
The sweet potato tots are delicious. Â There's a big part of me that would just like to step in to grab a double order to-go. Â
Atmosphere is mostly old car stuff, which is fitting with the theme and the location (next to the old Vandergriff dealership). Â The bar looks nice and there's a cool little patio. Â Live music is a staple on many nights. Â Sometimes there is a guy taking cash to get in on music nights, but I've never had the problem Ryan A had. Â I usually see him at the patio entrance and I just go in the main entrance without even having to speak to him. Â The outside of the building's windows are wrapped with old Arlington street views.
Neat place. Â Happy to see Jim's replaced by a halfway reputable burger joint.
Maybe I'm jaded with the watered down burger market in north Texas right now but Grease Monkey was very "meh" for me.
Maybe I was more annoyed with the atmosphere more than anything, I'll admit that. Â But the evening began with someone sitting at the opening to the patio saying that it costs $5 to enter which, let's be honest, is poor business for a fairly new restaurant in an area with tons of very good restaurants very close by. Â When I asked what for I was told there is a live band coming on. Â After telling the gentleman that I simply wanted to eat and could not care less for the band coming on stage I was allowed to enter and order.
The burger was decent. Â No better than any other burger joint in the area but I will give it kudos for using a bun that tastes like Hawaiian bread. Â That is the only thing that separates this burger in any way, and it added a very nice flavor to the burger. Â I ordered the Red Pepper Burger and it didn't have any special taste, which may be why that burger isn't on their online menu. Â
The sweet potato fries were pretty dang good though. Â But even those are a dime a dozen now.
Finding the condiments and burger toppings (FYI - you build your own burger a la Fuddruckers which is something I actually like) takes a special song played on a pan flute like you're playing the Legend of Zelda. Â They just kind of throw the stuff at random spots that are open so the soft drinks and utensils are in one spot, ketchup/mustard in another and then burger toppings another (conveniently located behind speakers by the stage that the band was still not playing on...). Â I actually couldn't find regular ketchup or mustard so I settled for ghost pepper ketchup which was actually very good.
I wouldn't write this place completely off. Â It feels more like a bar than a restaurant, so maybe I just wasn't expecting the atmosphere. Â
In conclusion, give it a shot if you're around, decent burger with less than intuitive ordering and burger building. Â Be prepared to try not to pay a cover charge to pay more money to buy food.
We were there about an hour and a half from being asked to pay a cover to leaving and the band still had not gone on. Â I'm not sure they ever did.
I got a 1/2 pound pepper jack, fried jalapeño & bacon burger. I asked for it medium and it made all the difference in the world from the first burger I had there. The bun is slightly sweet and toasted on the flat top. All condiments and veg are at a self serve bar. Atmosphere is like a car garage... Cool. Fries are meh... Good value during lunch with specials going for $4. Overall, I'll go again and try some of the other signature burgers, but if your in the Arlington area, it's worth a stop. They also have musician showcases Thursday through Saturday, so it makes a great hangout for live music and drinks as an alternative to the same ole song and dance at other local bars. 3 3/4 patties out of 5 for this burger hunt.
Review Source:I'm a big fan of The Grease Monkey for several reasons. One, they have been a big part of helping revitalize downtown Arlington. Two, they have the inside/outside, open-air atmosphere that I love, with huge garage-style doors that open up. Three, the owners are extremely nice and are working very hard to provide a great customer experience. Four, the burgers and fries are great. The bun is my favorite part of the burger; they are sweet and the perfect density for me.
Grease Monkey is a great place because depending on when you go, you can get a different experience. You can go on a weekend night for a live band and fun crowd, on a Sunday afternoon to sit on the patio and listen to an acoustic set, or to chill and watch sports with a bucket of beer (there are lots of TVs and most local team games are projected on the stage).
I'm not saying this is my all-time favorite burger (I know some people who would say it is this though), but overall I'd say that Grease Monkey is one of Arlington's best new additions and it's tough to beat. Go check it out!
NOM NOM NOM! If you want a greasy salty slab of ground beef with amazing seasoning come here!
The black and blue burger is seriously amazing. Â Between the blue cheese dressing, the blackened seasoning and the special bun butter OMG its melt in your mouth heaven! Â
The cheese fries ... COVERED in cheese and automatically served with a side of ranch. This is my kind of place.
I will say ... they don't have alot of variety so don't come if you want to pick from a list of 20 cheeses or add chili to your burger. Â This is simple and done right.
Ok, here's the deal with Grease Monkey - the burgers are great. Â Like, really great. Â And sweet potato tater tots? Â Fab. Â I know the concept is a little out there the first time you go, but once you know how it works, then.. well... you know how it works. Â
To be honest, it's not that complicated: order at the counter, find a place to sit and go get your burger when it's ready. Â The end. Â They don't waste food by loading your burger up with a bunch of stuff you're going to scrape off - instead, you go back to the seating area and you put what you want on it. Â That eliminates the possibility of your burger coming out messed up! Â It seems to offend some folks that they'd have to get their own onions or pickles. Â I'm on the other side of this fence because I like loading up on pickles, HATE seeing onion anywhere near my food and I always end up scraping off mayo that burger places love to slather on even after I say to leave it off. Â Doing it this way makes me happy, control freak that I am. Â And I'll grab a refill when I need it, instead of waiting for some waitress overloaded with too many tables to do it when she gets around to it. Â I personally LIKE not having to tip someone for mediocre service. Â I'll do it my damn self!
This place is awesome for live music on the weekends and it gets LOUD, but that's part of the draw! Â It's a burger joint, it's a bar, it's a local music hangout, so you gotta embrace it for what it is. Â If you have your kids in tow and you want the atmosphere of Applebees, well, go to Applebees! Â If you have your kids (or your college buddies... or your middle age pals...) in tow and you want live music, great burgers and a beer, then boom. Â You've found your place.
Shocking experience! I bought a GrouponNOW today and went to use it tonight (this type of Groupon expires at the end of the purchase date) . Managerr approval is required to apply it, but there was NO MGR ON DUTY. Poor little cashier was kind but her hands were tied. Â I wasn't upset with her at all.
I'm appalled that they would run a special promotion and then turn NEW customers away by leaving the store without a manager! Â Never going back!
I left them with my name and number, but no one called. Â How much worse can it get?
While the food impresses, grease monkey still falls a bit short. More buck than bang.
Sweet Potato tater tots, sweet bread burger buns, chicken fried burgers are among the wow factor for me, but the establishment falls short in a few areas. Their burger isn't very big either. Â
The lack of seating was a bit troublesome when I went. There are a few large tables and its almost like community seating. Â All the condiments and sauces are hidden back in the corner also, but if you can go when it's not very busy none of this should be a problem. It's also a bit expensive. Â
Make sure to check for special events because sometimes there is a cover charge to enter.
Downtown Arlington is getting way too hip to still be classified as Arlington. There is a fancy burger place, a hippie pizza joint that offers a fairly good beer selection, and heck, it has a little building labeled "Downtown Farmer's Market"--although the market is quite lacking.
The Greasy Monkey fits right in, boasting an eclectic burger menu, a very randomly decorated dining room, and pretty much a full bar. Also, it does lots of drink specials for the college crowd. Welcome to a future frat dive.
I thought the burgers were rather mediocre, but they were quite expensive. The choices sound unique, but they end up being poorly thought-out and executed. My favorite novelty item was the industrial-size tub of herb butter sitting next to the pick-up line. They slather your buns with it right before giving you your tray.
Now, the burgers were a different story, as I mentioned before. The saving grace was the juiciness of the burgers. I would like to know their actual mission statement when they were planning out the burgers. Besides the buttery bun, I did not see anything too outstanding in their execution. You gather your own condiments after getting your large vessel that holds your burger.
The Angry burger boasted some ghost sauce. In actuality, it was just hatch chiles, fried jalapenos, and a slice of cheese. My favorite aspect was just the crispy little guys, but the burger had absolutely no spice. Another simple, well-prepared burger... sigh. Come on, Arlington.
The Red Pepper burger boasted 1 roasted red pepper and a slice of cheese. Very boring and disappointing.
Grease Monkey needs to grease out some kinks, but I think it could turn into a fine burger joint... once they turn the actual burgers into some fantastic grub. Who wouldn't want to grab a little meat and bun action from a joint called the Grease Monkey?
I wanted to like Grease Monkey...I really did. Â Fist, I think it is part of a burgeoning downtown Arlington development that has been needed for decades. Â Second, I went to school with the owner, and really hope he does well. Â Alas, my first experience here may be my last as well.
I went to Grease Monkey for the first time about 7pm on a recent Saturday.  Despite the lateness, the place was packed, mostly with people watching the Texas Tech v. Baylor game.  We ordered at the counter (you order your food, find a seat, then are called when your order is ready). But after ordering, there was nary a seat to be found.  We lucked out, though, as an old friend of my wife's spotted us and invited us to sit at her table.  Unfortunately, her table was in the corner by the garage doors.  I am sure there must be some perfectly reasonable explanation why these doors, comprising one whole wall of the establishment, were kept open with it being 52 degrees outside and misting.  I for one cannot think of that reason.  Needless to say I was not  dressed accordingly.
By and by we were called for our food. I got our meals, and sat to eat, but when I looked for condiments I found that the tables are all kept bare. Â If you want ANYTHING: ketchup, napkins, even lettuce for your burger, you must venture through the crowds to where these are all kept. Â And as to these condiments, be prepared to make several trips, as you must squirt what you want into smallish containers. Â In any event, condiments in hand, I sampled my Black and Blue Burger (Bleu Cheese, bacon on a blackened burger) and almost choked. Â There was so much salt in the blackening rub on the burger it could barely be tolerated. Â I had to slather it with ketchup to get it down.
It is my hope that Grease Monkey works through these issues as it moves forward. Arlington needs more establishments like this willing to build up a downtown scene. Â I'm simply not willing to give up good taste to get it.
My first review of The Grease Monkey was right after they opened and the experience wasn't a great one. Â I rarely give a place only one chance though, so today I came back to have a great burger. Â
Maybe my expectations are too high, but they have failed again. Â They did fix the problem with the fries though. Â They were hot, fresh and tasty. Â That was the highlight of my experience. Â The burger? Â Gross. Â They seem to have changed the bun since my first visit, which would normally be welcomed given that first buns were more like a grocery store bun, but these new ones are dense, doughy and sweet. Â Maybe I'm the only person on earth that doesn't like sweet doughy buns on my burger, but that in itself was enough to make me put the burger down. Â
I broke off a tiny bit of the patty to see if it had the seasoning it lacked on my first visit.  It did.  I was happy to see that it was well seasoned this time around.  I discarded the bun and took a  fork to the meat, cheese and mushrooms.  It was a portabella swiss burger and it had "steak sauce", blue cheese mayo and fake swiss.  The blue cheese was completely undetectable over the steak sauce.  The first few bites were just edible.  The next two were disgusting.  The meat seemed  to now have a strange flavor.
At this point I gave up. Â $12.24 totally wasted. Â I put the burger in the trash, Â and left hungry. Â I doubt I'm up for a third visit. Â I do wish them luck though.
I have been driving past Grease Monkey numerous times and felt that I should finally give the place a shot! Just so happens that the shot was my birthday celebration! I know, I know... it was a risky proposition to give them so much responsibility for such an event with no history!
So I got there around 7, earlier than my crew. I was a little dismayed that just about everything was self-service there, but I left my sweet patio spot to go back and forth to the bar for beer. I liked the bar staff. They were efficient and friendly.
As the night went on, it started raining out and so we squeezed ourselves indoors. Fortunately we still found a table and it wasn't overly loud in there so I could still carry a conversation with my friends. I ordered a Chicken Fried Bacon Burger and was very impressed with my food and the handful of fries that I snagged from my friend. So far so good for this place!
The band had started setting up and so we purposely picked up our things and moved to the furthest table we could get, save for the patio since all the furniture was now wet. I had two more friends show up and the band finished their sound check and proceeded into the first song. The sound was eff-n TERRIBLE. Awful. Between the general acoustics that were clearly not thought about when designing the place and the band's terrible sound board people, I could not hear a damn thing anyone was saying. It was at my request that we leave so I could actually enjoy conversation with my friends that had come out to wish me a happy birthday.
My friends that came last and were there less than 10 minutes told me that they had been charged $5 each for cover. I went to go close out my tab and ask the bouncer guy if it would be possible for my friend's money back since this clearly wasn't the right late night venue. Bouncer dude was a total jerk about it! He was condescending and told me if I had a problem with it being too loud, that I should take it up with the band. He also stated that I could request a refund, but that he wasn't giving me one and proceeds to have a smirk on his face while talking with me.
Honestly, I could of handled this place telling me 'no' about my friend's not getting their cover back, if the bouncer had done it with some tact! So anyways, I asked a bartender to get a manager and Paul, the manager, was very polite and handed me $10 back, even offering to dry off the benches on the patio.
I picked up on a general sense of apathy from the employees there aside from the bartenders and manager. That totally needs improvement in my book. I was also a little disappointed that a "Social Club" can't produce a drink menu or bust out some signature drinks. Twisted Root is going to give them a run for their money when they open, so Grease Monkey better figure out a way to up their game!
On one hand, I want to give it a good review just for the effort. Â A lot of business has come into the downtown part of Arlington revitalizing an area that just been sitting there waiting for years. Â Now there's the outdoor music venue, some local chains (Fuzzy's, Babe's), and with more nightlife it could become a really desirable place to hang out for the few people who live in Arlington that are not into the suburban North Dallas-style strip malls and chain restaurants that have filled Arlington Highlands.
All that said, within a reasonable walk from The Grease Monkey you still have two places that do it better, in my opinion. Â The same bars that have been there catering to UTA students and professors for years--Bentley's and Gilligan's. Â Bentley's remains a much cooler bar. Â Gilligan's has better food. Â And, best of all, both places know what they are--casual dive bars.
This place? They have no idea what they want to be. Â On one hand it looks like they're going for the dive aspect of Fred's Texas Cafe (in Ft. Worth) or Twisted Root (in Dallas). Â They serve big greasy burgers. Â They serve beer. Â They have greasy, decadent side items. Â You order at the counter and take a seat until the call you. Â But the comparison stops there because they completely missed on the atmosphere. Â They have a stage and live music. Â But the area around it is some mix of swanky sports bar/lounge/fifties diner. Â And perhaps the worst decision is an open kitchen--which is know is very in right now...but not at places that are making french fries by the thousands. Â It kind of gives the entire place (and the area outside) the smell of the Texas State Fair. Â
As for the food...the burgers are fine. Â They're not memorable. Â They're not bad in any way. Â But, again, walk up the road and Gilligan's does it better. Â If you're going for the whole Texas burger dive concept, they could stand to be bigger, greasier, and more slathered in toppings. Â I want a blue cheese burger to have crumbled cheese falling out of the bun...not a dab of bottled salad dressing on top.
Avoid the sweet potato tots--they seem like a good idea, but they must be cooking them in the same grease as the other fries. Â Which doesn't work. Â They burn easier than an Idaho potato. That's basic chemistry, yo.
Another gripe is that they also charge a cover when there is music. Â Which is fine, I guess, if you're just going there to hang out. Â But I've never seen anyone watching the band and if you're there to buy food and drink then you shouldn't have to pay admission. Â
Right now it doesn't seem they've done much to draw in the local (UTA) crowd...most of the people are late 30s or older and look like they enjoy the nightlife. Â I'm not sure where they hung out previously. Â They may all be friends of the owner.
I went to this new burger joint slash social club downtown Arlington bar. I loved the place very cool bar set up. It is a large open garage door and a open bar on the other side. With good patio seating. There is plenty of seating on the inside as well. The complaint that everyone seem to have is they are confused on how to get your food. If you order a beer first sit in patio you can see what to do. They have a separate ordering area for the food. You go in there and order then they give you a number beep you when it is ready.. Not that difficult to figure out.
I like my burger it was a half ponder I got the mushroom one. They have a unique choice of burgers which is fun not the same old boring thing. It did cost almost 8 dollars. And fries are extra. I had onion rings very good excellent even. I will get the onion rings always. Â On the web page they have live music on weekends. I will check this place out again. And go while the weather is nice.
I went here for lunch and did not really have an idea of what kinda place this was going to be. The place is fairly new and well I guess that is sorta the root of the problem. I walked in and had no Idea how this place worked or what the specialty was. I guessed hamburgers from the menu. I wish there was someone from the staff that would tell you how the order comes with out you having to figure it out yourself. I ordered a cheeseburger with jalapenos. Well no need to tell them you want toppings because it is sort of like fuddruckers in that you put on you toppings. I saw other people had much better looking burgers than mine. The girl taking the order could have suggested their version of the jalapeno Cheeseburger, but I guess there was a line so on I went.
So I get my burger and top it of with lettuce tomato and Jalapenos. Its okay but I have had better. It was good sized burger and the bun had a little bit of a sweet flavor that went well with the burger. The issue was that I was looking around and saw what appeared to be some exotic looking burgers but because of my ignorance was unable to get a good feel for the joint.
I guess you could say its partly my fault, but hey I came here for lunch not to try and figure out your menu! Since this is a new place perhaps a little more effort could be taken to in sure your new customers can fully experience what you have to offer. I know I have been to several other places where the staff asks if you have been there before. That way if you have not they can fully explain what they have to offer.
I will have to give this place another try and will update the review.
where do I start? Â I don't know if was this particular night, but judging from the other feedback, my experience was not unique. Â I met some friends there to watch a football game and have a burger. Â Don't get me wrong, the aesthetics of the place is great and there is tons of potential, but so far, poorly executed. Â
Lets start with the atmosphere because it kind of had me irritated from the beginning and could have tainted my entire view. Â I saw another review that used the word chaotic....and that is it. Â It was busy, but I wouldn't say overly crowded, but it was freaking loud. Â I wanted to watch the game, but couldn't even hear it. Â Some drunk lady with the table next to me decided to stand right behind me the entire night..which irritated the hell out of me. Â That wasn't the worst of it though...because I understand, it isn't that big of a deal, I just wasn't in the mood for being crowded while I try and eat. Â To top it off, they turned the game off of the huge projector screen for a live band. Â I love live music, but I was not there for that. Â i couldn't believe the couldn't wait until the game was over. Â It irritated the group I was with. Â They put the game on another TV, in which they screwed another group of people who were trying to watch the Ranger game. Â Total lack of planning if you ask me. Â Is it a sports bar and grille, or is it a bar with live music that just happens to have food?
The place is a bit like Fudruckers where you get to put your own veggies and condiments on your burger....but the location of everything seems like an afterthought. Â They were just kind of put on a counter next to the soda fountain, except the condiments, which were in a totally different spot. Â With the crown, it made getting your veggies and condiments a little cumbersome and irritating.
I would really hope our experience with service was something out of the ordinary for this place because it took us an hour and a half, yes, 1.5 hour, 90 minutes to get 3 burgers and some cheese fries. Â I know we were not the only ones that had to wait so long, and that long of a wait is inexcusable for burgers. Â
The burgers were good, I will admit that, but not that great. Â Not a 90 minute wait great. Â The fries, effing terrible. Â Worse than worse. Â Soggy, greasy, flavorless, worthless. Â You would think adding cheese to it would leave them with some redeeming quality, but it didn't. Â The ranch dressing was not homemade ranch. Â I don't even like ranch that much, but when it is the fake stuff, it is nasty. Â
The whole night left me feeling extremely disappointed and wishing we had gone somewhere else.
I realize the place is local, brand new and has some kinks to work out...ok, some MAJOR kinks, but like I said, a lot of potential. Â They are apparently starting a singer/songwriter evening on Thursday nights. Â I think if they can fix a few things, this place could be a staple in the area, but they have to fix the fries and the service for any shot.
If they are still around in 6 months or so, I might give it a go.
