This dingy little sports bar is conveniently located near the Lakewood Cinema-- which makes it an easy place to stop in for a drink before and/or after going to the movies. Â With relatively inexpensive drinks (including a $2 "mystery shot"), several draught beers, and standard pub grub, it's not a half bad dive bar regardless of it's strip mall location. Â There's a pool table, dart board, juke box, a few video games, some TVs, and (at least the last time I was in here) a really funky odor making about half the joint uninhabitable.
Review Source:I'm not sure why their sign claims that they have "World Famous Pizza." Â Define World. Â Define Pizza. Â Either they're liars or they don't know the definitions of these words.
They should have a sign that says, "pretty darn good chicken wings." Â Their spicy chicken wings are pretty darn good.
About the best thing I can say is that the pizza was slightly better than microwave pizza. The service was nonexistent; I had to wait for the bartender to finish texting (with her back to me) before she would hand me my pizza that I could see sitting on the counter behind her. The place was ridiculously loud and none too clean--the type of place I could tolerate in my early twenties when I didn't know better, but to be avoided in the future.
Review Source:"World famous pizza" is a pretty bold statement considering that its not even the best pizza in South Tacoma (see Stonegate). Dense, tastless crust, humdrum toppings and lack of sauce make it so. A day later, I'm still digesting it.
We went at lunch and the server was complaining about what a mess the night shift left the place in. TMI. That incohesiveness showed in the food and service. Beer was served in warm glasses. Try elsewhere.
If you want a nice bar, don't bother here. Â But as far as casual goes, they have that covered. Â Yeah, it's a dive, but the drinks are the right price. Â I work in that particular parking lot and I used to live off of their $1.50 PBR's until I befriended the staff and they started making me my own personal margarita with good tequila, lots of it, and for the right price. Â It pays to get to know the staff. Â They will absolutely remember you if you treat them right, and they'll show their appreciation. Â Lisa and Kristina, two of their bartenders, are seriously two of the coolest women in the industry. Â
But it really does depend on what you like. Â Here the price is certainly right and they won't rip you off... you always get a little more than you pay for. Â Absolutely my favorite dive in all of Tacoma.
I don't know if I've ever seen a sports bar located in a strip mall before coming across Green Pup. It intrigued me, and after discovering the the movie I wanted to see next door had sold out, I decided to give strip mall drinking a chance.
The place has the welcoming facade of a typical dive bar: neon signs, sports on the tv, and duct tape holding the booth's upholstery together. Oh sure, there's pool, darts, and cheap beer. But instead of the "regulars" you might expect one of these establishments to house, you will find the typical Lakewood crowd.
For those of you who may be unfamiliar with the area, I present to you Lakehood in a nutshell: white boys decked out in fake bling and G-Unit gear, obnoxious baby mamas and their relentless drama, swarms of Ft. Lewis military guys, top 40 R&B, and a collectively unfriendly vibe.
If the Green Pup is used as a stopoff for a quick drink pre- or post- theater, it serves it's purpose. However, I would not recommend planning an evening out at the Green Pup unless you enjoy the sounds of the KUBE 93 playlist blaring as you sip yo drank.
This is a great place to go hang out with your friends and chill. There are two pool tables, 2 dart boards, a fooseball table, and a jukebox for your enjoyment. It's not too big if a place but it's great if you're just looking to hang out with a few friends and take it easy. It's also conveniently located next to Regal Theater which makes it a great place to hit up before or after a movie! The food is typical pub grub but it's pretty good. My only complaint is that the service can be very slow when it gets busy!
Review Source:I've always been looking to find a local bar, where I can go, eat some greasy food, get some cheap beer and play some darts, well The Pup is the place for all of that!
Service is not the greatest, but, who cares? Â The drinks are cheap and the food is greasy. Â Isn't that what you want from a local watering hole that sits in a strip mall next to a movie theater?
Its great especially if you have some wait time for a movie, or miss a movie, you can just walk over to the pup and kill a few beers.
