As soon as my best friend and I walked in to the place wanted to sit outside. We were the only one out there. Some woman was walked up... looked dead at my pregnant best friend and lit a cigarette. I almost took off my earrings and went over there, but i didnt want to lower my standard. I talked to the waitress to have us moved inside. The manager went and talked to her but she finished her cigarette. We went back and sit outside and this girl lit up another one. We just finished up what we could and left.
4 stars for the BEST crab meat soup. Salad has no wow factor.. it was... just that.. a salad...
2 stars over all for the horrible experience, they should have no smoking policy because people ARE eating out side. One, its smells. Two, its rude and three if you do it to the wrong person you might get knocked out off of your chair.
For a sports bar they do a nice job with the menu. We enjoyed the environment and the food was good. I had a couple of chicken breasts toped with crab and balsamic vinegar. It was quite good. The one real complaint that I have and the reason why they didn't get a higher rating from me is that my wife's burger came with a container wrapper sitting between it and the crab cake. It was about the size of the burger so I'm really really confused how it made it on there with no one noticing. Honestly it was about the circumference of a slice of provolone. If it was an accident then someone needs to pay attention in big way. If that was some kind of joke or whatever then thanks for the free meal! I'd go back for one more try but they are out of strikes.
Review Source:The food here is pretty decent. Â I had some sort of crab mac n' cheese dish that needed a lot more crab. Â The service was a bit suspect. Â There were not many people in the place and they were less than attentive. Â Everyone was super nice though. Â The drink prices could definitely come down, but I suppose they will charge what people are willing to pay. Â When are places going to stop charging import prices for Sam Adams?
Review Source:cool place that supports local youth sports teams.
service was friendly, but slow and frenzied. Â
food was typical american fare, nothing special or to be noted for. Â huge portions, prices seem average.
burgers are a bit odd tasting because the rolls they use are sweet rolls....kinda throws the flavor.
shepherds pie was alright...again they used a sweet bread....throws the flavor off.
***BTW, this is behind spotsylvania mall, by splitsville bowling alley. Â we got lost trying to find it cause our gps wasn't updated for this place (garmin and android gps).
The Greene Turtle Sports Bar & Grille is located at the outside section of Spotsylvania Mall. I decided to go to the Greene Turtle Sports Bar & Grille to watch some football and grab a quick bite to eat. I ordered the boneless wings. You get a good deal on boneless wings.16 boneless wings is $12.I tried the sweet chili and garlic parmesan sauce. The sweet chili sauce was my favorite. The sweet chili sauce had good flavor and the right amount of heat. The garlic parmesan sauce wasn't as flavorful and a bit spicy. The Green Turtle has a lot of television throughout the restaurant. You can sit in a booth with a televison. The employees were friendly. The service was mediocre at best. My server wasn't attentive and didn't know the menu. The Greene Turtle Sports Bar & Grille is a solid spot to watch sports.I give the Greene Turtle Sports Bar & Grille a 2.5 rating.
Review Source:Two stars just because our waitress meant well, she just couldn't handle our large party which included toddlers. Personally I feel one star would have been adequate. Service was unbearably slow, food was ok but nothing spectacular. Only plus side was that with each paid adult meal they offered a kids free which included a drink as well. However, they actually charged extra if you chose milk or juice, apparently it only soda was free. This by the way was not specified anywhere. Nothing impressive and I'd probably never return here.
Review Source:I had the BBQ chicken flatbread pizza & it was delicious! My mom & her bf had the appetizer sampler & they enjoyed that as well, & it definitely looked good with a good variety of foods that some you don't normally see in an appetizer platter. The wait staff was extremely friendly & on top of things. We had our own TV at our table, which was pretty cool, but it was programmed to only be able to watch sports channel. Of course this isn't surprising at a SPORTS bar & grill, but it'd be nice to have your own choice as well. However, the way they had it set up wasn't overpowering so you could still hear your own TV without blasting out others' TVs. All in all it was a good experience & I'd like to go back to try more. :)
Review Source:Stopped by on Saturday Night, August 20th.
Ordered a burger with fries, an order f mozzarella sticks and had two Yuengling pints at $2.50 per.
Burger lacked flavor and the bun was burned. Cheese, bacon, an fries add another $3 to burger cost.
Fries weren't bad but were slightly cold.
Mozzarella sticks were $6.49 for only six small pieces.
Atmosphere at the bar was non-existent. Girls working at the bar were friendly though.
Overall, I wont make it a destination while I am back in the area.
I was very optimistic after having that ridiculous jingle in my head so long before I tried it. I was heartily disappointed. From the beginning my hostess was dry and not very personable (on the flip side the waitress was very engaging so maybe that nilled the other out). I was not impressed by the lackluster menu so I went for the tried and true Grilled Chicken Cesar salad. UGH! I couldn't figure out what was wrong with it when I tasted it. I've never been one to send back food but I told the waitress straight up it was gross. It turns out that when refilling the Cesar dressing, someone in the back accidentally put Vidalia Onion in it. That was just one problem...the other was that my grilled chicken actually had the taste of egg. No really, hard boiled egg flavored chicken. Eh. I chose something else on the menu, an appetizer that had originally caught my eye--the pretzel and queso...that was awesome. I made my decision then that I will come back for the booze and pretzels. Isn't that fitting for a sports bar to have great appetizers and shitty food? My companion wasn't wild about his wrap either upon discovering cranberries in it when he didn't recall them in this particular order. Nor did he get his onion rings...fries initially until they gave us a plate of onion rings when we reminded them. All in all...alcohol and pretzels...yes. Meal...no. Very nice waitress though.
Review Source:If you want to watch sports here is the place to go.
If you want to eat dinner, go somewhere else first. Â
The TVs at each booth, and everywhere in the place offers you the sports game that you may be craving. Â The problem is that the food fare is the same as most other chains, frozen and with very little fresh. Â I had one of their highlighted burgers to only receive what was, most evidently, a frozen patty they had thrown on a grill.
Unfortunetly, the food isnt great, but the TVs abound with sports.
Oh yeah, their beer selection isn't bad either, but so are the other chain establishments.
The Greene Turtle is a new addition to the ever burgeoning Spotsylvania mall. Â It is actually part of a small chain of restaurants that began in Ocean City, MD. Â Most of their locations are in Maryland, but they have recently branched out into Delaware, D.C., and Virginia. Â
As a sports bar, it is fine. Â There are many flat screen televisions posted along the walls of the restaurant and even several tables are equipped with smaller, private flat screens. Â Regardless of where you are seated, you should be able to see up to several screens in your field of vision. Â Unfortunately, that is not quite true. Â My particular seat was next to a very high dividing wall that blocked out 4 of the screens from my vision -- an inadvertent design flaw to be sure. Â Aside from the flat screens, there are many large, signed photos of athletes that are worth a look. Â One in particular of Jerome Bettis is a really lovely shot. Â In short, all of the trappings of a bona fide sports bar are present, even if the ambience of a nice neighborhood bar is clearly lacking here. Â
For dinner, I opted for the NY Strip steak which was served with mashed red potatoes, gravy, and a side of broccoli and carrots. Â We were informed by our waitress that they have a special where if you order two entrees, you can have a free appetizer. Â We opted for 8 bone-in wings served with a "Sweet Sweet Bourbon" glaze. Â I found the wings to be nicely fried with great texture. Â The sauce failed to have much nuance to it with little hint of the bourbon. Â The sweetness was supplied through a simple syrup that became cloying as more wings were consumed. Â But given the quality of the wings otherwise, I would simply chalk this up to having selected the wrong sauce. Â As for the steak, it was just okay. Â It was prepared medium rare as I had requested, but I did not find it to be particularly juicy. Â They charbroiled the steak and use Montreal steak seasoning, but I failed to get much flavor from the rub. Â At under $20, this is probably acceptable, but by no means memorable. Â Within a short walking distance to Firebird's, a much better steak can be had for example. Â The vegetables were noticeably off-color and sad to behold. Â They did not taste very good either. Â The mashed potatoes were fine, and I found the gluey gravy to actually have some real flavor to it. Â My friend, by comparison, opted for a turkey reuben sandwich which was generously stuffed with meat and looked decidedly more appetizing. Â
Service was superb with both our waitress and the manager frequently checking in with our table to see if all of our needs were being met. Â
Given the low price point, especially after factoring in the free appetizer, the restaurant is fine for a casual meal out. Â Visiting for the express purpose of seeing a game may require canvassing before hand to ensure one's view is not blocked. Â Nothing remarkable, but nothing terrible either.
Terrible experience with my large family here while trying this new place in our area out on my wife's birthday. Â The atmosphere was nice and the kids liked the TV at the table. Â Trouble started when drinks came and the "drink special" margarita and Long Island Ice Tea for the ladies were watered down in rocks glasses. Â Who serves margaritas in a rocks glass? Â Then we waited for an hour and 10 minutes after ordering our food with no management explanation. When it finally arrived the food was terrible from my wife's tiny tasteless crab cake with wilted vegetables, my microscopic dried out chicken breast and my oldest daughters dry poor tasting salmon. After all of that the final nail in the experience was an automatic 18% gratuity on the bill because we were a "party of 7 or more". I foolishly paid my tab before grabbing the manager who had nothing to offer except excuses about how they had a party of 16 in back. Never going back and can't recommend it to anyone. If they can't handle a big family on a Wednesday I can't imagine how a business event or weekend might go. Wasted money and wife's birthday dinner a total bust. Bad management, bad food, bad drinks. Â But...I still liked the TV.
