This placed seemed like a hit when we walked in, but unfortunately was not southwestern enough for me.  Probably because I'm from Arizona, and very few restaurants on the east coast can match the original southwestern cuisine.

The margaritas were good, and the chips (one of the more famous items) were great.  The food was good, but not seasoned authentically enough and pretty basic.

The biggest problem we had was that we waited for over 50 minutes for our food.  Even though I was with a party of 5, there were many tables that arrived after us and received food before us.  Maybe the waitress forgot about our table.  When the food finally arrived, one of the plates was completely wrong and my friend had to wait another 15 minutes for the right food.

I'd give it another try, but I moved back to the left coast - only authentic for me from now on!

Average but ok.    Tacos shells were cold, I usually heat mine at home.  BBQ, not good, dry meat, sauce below average.

My wife and I  stayed at the Palmer House and the concierge recommended going to Gringo Jack's for dinner, since It was so close we decided to walk down. The place looked cool from the outside  and inside the bar area had 3  TVs  And a large dining room..We hit the bar for pre dinner margaritas and watched the Red Sox game. while we were there it started to rain outside, then thunder and lightning.  We ordered another round of drinks with dinner , the portions were big ,I had the crispy beef tacos and she had Chicken enchiladas  with Mole sauce. Over all it was a good experience. Thank you yo the bartender that had an extra umbrella to give us for our walk back to the motel.

Pretty disappointing.  Very, very, very slow service. (did I say low service?)  Had to ask 4 other waitresses where ours was.  The food was poorly prepared.  Steak fajitas came black charred, yet was ordered medium.  Almost no veggies, and those that were there were also charred black.   My wife got a hand rubbed tofu dish.  (Hand rubbed?  Raw tofu is too crumbly to be hand rubbed)  That was the only cooking they apparently did to it. Raw tofu isn't good.  It was just thrown into whatever brown sauce it came with.  Bland.  My chicken was okay.  Just okay.  Totally nothing worth the calories out of 4 dishes we ordered.   Looking around, other tables were appearing frustrated as well.  Go elsewhere.  The locals don't eat here.  Strong message there, no?

weak margaritas and bland shrimp fajitas, but lots of good veggie options for hubby and good corn tortillas.  the chips are mixed flour and corn, so i couldn't have any, which was additionally disappointing.  the service was good and the gf options are clearly labeled.  hubby found the chile relleno to be too bready, but loved the cheese enchilada.

Pretty bad food except guacamole and fresh nachos. Not at all appetizing food. Not tasty. Totally bland. Go at your own risk.

I always look forward to coming here, but lately I've been let down.

I personally love the mix of regular tortilla and flaky chips. The salsa's super tasty. I love the charro beans and the fact that the offer an actual vegetarian entree with tofu, not just some sad grilled vegetable plate usually cheese-laden. The guacamole has gotten progressively limier over time, to the point where I've stopped enjoying it due to the heavy citrus flavor. They used to mix it fresh at the table years ago, and while I understand the need to keep guac from turning brown, it shouldn't sacrifice taste.

Margaritas are tasty (try the cider one!) - I hate super strong drinks with dinner.

Last time I went, I took my vegetarian leftovers home. While eating them tonight, I hit a hard ball of something and spit it out. It was a chunk of some sort of meat. I understand  the inability to completely separate cooking space, but could you at least use a clean utensil when preparing vegetarian food/spooning leftovers into a takeout container. It grosses me out to think that the same spatulas flipping beef/chicken/pork around are used interchangeably with vegetarian dishes, especially when I'm getting actual pieces of meat in my vegetarian dish.

Ate here last night.  Friendly service but she was in the weeds all night, food was average and bland. Margaritas were bordering the flavor of a mix, and the sangria was meh.  I think their chips were the most interesting. The guac was bland, the quesa fundidos is just hot cheese , we got it with chimichurri sauce, but I think the cooks put mint in it instead. Nice environment, lots of potential, needs a rethink on service delivery and sprucing up the dishes.

Everything about this restaurant looks better than it is (except for the prices). The decor is warm and inviting, the food is plated well, but is only mediocre in quality. They tout their famous chips, so much so that bags are offered for sale in the foyer and an additional basket at the table will cost you $3, but they are greasy and overlooked.

Other than the pleasant, but totally ineffective, hostess this place is great for lunch, dinner or just drinks. Don't count on speedy seating though even with tables ready. I would plan on 20 minutes minimum. Enjoy.

There is a very nice selection of tequila here.  But our drive home is a lengthy one, so our beverages of choice would best be beer.  A pint of Switchback ($5.25) and a Long Trail Harvest ($5.50) seemed like a good way to start with the basket of both house-made flour and corn chips.  We were informed by our friendly server that the Switchback was extra cloudy because the cask had been moved around and the beer was not filtered.  She said she'd take it back if we didn't want it, but there was no need for that since the flavor was great.  The Long Trail, however, seemed very watery, almost like a lite beer, even though the flavors were definitely there.

The Guacamole Ala Molcajete ($10) is freshly made and very good.  It had a bit more lime than we are accustomed to but we still enjoyed it.  They say it will serve two, but one person would have no problem finishing it.  So, we also shared a half-dozen Sweet and Spicy Chipotle Glazed Wings ($8.50).  Not too spicy at all, but good flavors, moist and meaty wings, and messy to eat.

For a significant change in pace, my wife decide to try Vegetarian Fajitas ($17) - tofu, grilled veggies & portabellas.  The tofu was nicely grilled, and light and tender with just a bit of seasoning on top.  The accompanying veggies and mushrooms were tasty, and maybe perfect for a vegan, but I doubt either of us would choose this option again. A second Switchback was called for; it was a lot less cloudy.

Since Gringo Jack's also features their own smoked meats, I thought I would try something along that line.  The Slow Smoked Pork Tacos ($17) - 3 flour tortillas stuffed with house slow smoked pulled pork-topped with lettuce, a pineapple habanero salsa and pico.  The kitchen was kind enough to substitute white corn tortillas per my request.  I didn't really notice any smoked flavor in the pork.  But the tacos were very flavorful with the pineapple habanero salsa, although very messy to eat.  The tortillas became soaked at the bottom and ironically a bit brittle for being soft.  The black beans and rice served with this dish were average but good.  A Victory Hop Devil IPA ($6) rounded out all the flavors of the tacos and made up for the lack of body in the Long Trail.

Service was very efficient and friendly.  The atmosphere is perfectly Southwestern.  If we could just find a designated driver the next time we could work our way through a tasting of some really good tequila!

Okay, we went back to Manchester recently and decided to give this place a second chance. I'm so glad we did! This time I got smart and made a reservation. We were seated immediately when we arrived and the experience was 180 degrees different than the first time. Fast, friendly service, excellent food, lots of veggie options and a great kids menu. We were all very happy and can't wait to go again the next time we visit that part of Vermont!

Bad place. Stopped here for lunch on a day when they weren't busy. Two beers took 10 minutes to arrive. Food was really ordinary, barbecue sauce was ice cold in bottles straight from the fridge. And it cost a lot of money for a bad lunch. Don't go.

Stopped in while spending the day with my partner enjoying the foliage and shopping around Manchester.  My food (burrito) was pretty decent but my girlfriend's shrimp enchiladas with mole were abysmal.  Her enchiladas consisted of a corn tortilla with approx 4 shrimp in each with mole sauce(which was also bad) dumped over it.  There was no cheese or any other garnish included in/with the enchiladas.  At a price of $18 each for both her meal and my meal this place was extremely disappointing.   The restaurant's only saving grace was the homemade salsa and chips they give you.  Wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone.  There are many other options around the area with great locally grown food items.

Biggest plus here is the lovely outdoor seating....the salsa is good...it goes downhill from there. Over priced, slow kitchen, horrible smell of bleach inside the restaurant, and even outside- they use bleach and dirty looking rags to wipe the tables... the margerita's are not as good as we would wish. They have such a  lovely setting - too bad they do not have great management  - or a decent chef.

We stopped in for lunch today and were really dissapointed.

I had the CHARRO BEAN & CHEESE ENCHILADA, it was topped with what looked and tasted like a reduced burnt tomato sauce rather then  the mild red chile sauce that was listed on the menu which led me to think I would receive somehing with flavor.   It's possible a traditional light red tomato sauce would be better then promising something on a menu that is not well executed.

My Fiance had two beef taco's which, when served, looked like a plate of chopped lettuce at first glance with a side of corn salad.  The two taco's were burried under the lettuce and inside, they were both lacking in toppings.  There was little, if any, tomatos or cheese and there was very little beef.  Also missing was sour cream.

The beef was hardly seasoned, it was swimming in grease and a there were several chunks that were not cooked all the way through.

The waiter had already come by to check on us before my Fiance had found the raw meat and half of it was eaten already so we just paid the bill and left.

The service was good, the exectution of the food was poor and there was a signifigant lack of value for our money spent.

Not much positive to say. The waiter was nice and friendly. The beer is cold. Skip dinner altogether. The beef fajitas had an odd taste and I couldn't decide if it was bad or just a bad flavor. That isn't something g that should be going through your mind while eating. The salsa is bland and the chips are really deep fried tortillas that remind me of wontons. Even at $10 an entree I'd be disappointed. But at $20, it's highway robbery. 2 stars only for the waiter, the beer, and the fact that they're open "late" until 10pm on a weekend in winter.

On a snowy evening we had a great fish taco and a half smoked chicken. Service was very good.

It really is okay....  not really "A-okay".  The place itself is one really attractive brick buildings of age in Manchester....  really nice.  There is a good staff, no question.  I think the "chips" are terrific.  Entrees are pretty pricey and "okay" but just okay.  It is a fun place to be, particularly in the summer when you might sit outside.

Definitely eat here! Mango margaritas are epic and the 2$ bar food is awesome! Buy some homemade hot sauce too!

We went into Gringo Jack's with low expectations and they were met, across the board. The homemade tortilla chips we'd heard so much about were heavy and greasy - more like Chinese restaurant noodles than chips you eat with salsa. The salsa seemed like it came out of a jar.

Husband had the pork ribs, which he liked. I had the bbq chicken, which was dry. The slaw and beans were so spicy as to be inedible.

The real downfall, though, came at the end of the meal, when we asked for a final glass of water. We watched the waitress pull the water pitcher toward her to check if it was full, by sticking her bare finger into the spout and tipping it for a peek. Then on top of that she rested the pitcher against the rim of each of our glasses while pouring. GROSS. Why not just stick your finger in my glass after putting it in every other glass in the room?!

After driving around Manchester looking for a place for dinner, my bf and I decided on this place.

The restuarant itself is small, but has a cute bar and is decorated well. There are also a few tv.'s for those who need to watch the sports.

They brought out these wonderful chips with salsa that were EXCELLENT. I could have ate these chips all night!

My bf got a burrito which had a bar-b-cuey tasting salsa which we both thought tasted great. I got the chicken wings and the sauce was this great combination of tangy and sweet.

The price of the wings were about average, however, my bf's burrito was a little pricey, however, it did taste good and we would come back if in the area again.

Food was good but highly overpriced. Drinks were yummy and we got to sit outside to eat.

The bill was probably twice as high as it should have been for Mexican food. We have a Border cafe near us and the same meal I had there is $7 at Border. Candeleros- it was like $15 for tacos!

Parking lot is not good for a full sized pickup truck- very hard to pull into the driveway- skinny skinny. AND may I add when we walked up to go into the restaurant EVERYONE at the tables STARED at us.hmmm.

If you want a good place to hang out for drinks and peopel watch outside- go there. If you want to eat and not empty your wallet on basic food- Id look into other options

The chips appeared to be freshly made and were very tasty with the salsa choices. The chicken sandwich with bbq was also very good. Harpoon IPA on tap. The service was slow and the waitress forgot some sides. I would say this place was has potential if it wasn't for the 4 flys buzzing around our table the whole time in September!
