Oh how I miss the Gulliver's I knew and loved. Ever since the previous owner died things have been different but we would still go for the pan pizza...until our experience this past Sunday. My husband daughter and I were so looking forward to our extra large pan pizza. We ordered half sausage and half mushroom as my daughter and I are vegetarians. Â After waiting the 30 minutes or so it takes for the pizza our waiter brings an extra large half sausage half pepperoni pizza. To make a very long story short, he whisked the pizza away saying he grabbed the wrong one and that ours would be 5 minutes. Then he tells us he was so glad the original pizza got brought to the correct table and that he was glad it wasn't a delivery order blah, blah, blah...he brings our pizza and I could tell they had removed the pepperoni from the original pizza and simply added raw mushrooms. Same pizza. Â I asked him if this were the case and he swore absolutely not they would never do that. I told him we were vegetarians. No, they absolutely made us a new pizza he says. Yep, until on my second piece I pulled a piece of pepperoni off of my slice. We called the owner over who seemed truly sorry. But the waiter was an outright liar. They made us a new one to go, but it was soggy by the time we got home. I will not be returning.
Review Source:I love pizza. If I were on a deserted island and only had one food item, it would be pizza. I have the luxury of being nearby some fabulous pizza places and have tried almost all of them, but I keep coming back to Gullivers on Howard.
First, lets just talk about the ambiance for a quick minute...hello quirky eye candy...vintage chandeliers, old architectural nuggets all over the place, the outdoor patio is fabulous. I'd much rather frequent a local, family owned, unique restaurant instead of a stale, cookie cutter, every decoration is monitored and duplicated 1000 times.
Now the food, we've eaten a lot of things on their menu, and all were very good...burgers, mexican, italian, appetizers....all good. However their pizza, in particular their thin crust is my favorite of all times. You have a choice between regular mozzarella (and its real cheese...not that processed bland stuff that has no flavor. OR you can choose the mixed cheese....which is extra delish...not positive what it is a mix of, maybe colby...never thought to ask but its so so so good! The sauce is real sauce, not tomato paste, not heart-burn inducing tart tomato, but tasty tomato-y pizza sauce. The crust is a great thin crust...not too thick, no excess flour on the bottom, crispy cracker-y crust. The other add-on ingredients are all perfect too, we tend to get mixed sausage/pepperoni or something with mushroom & onion and have never been disappointed.
love this place, always will.
