Went to Gus & Paul's with a Groupon and it was pretty good! Â Sandwiches were fresh and tasty, with about a thousand choices on the menu. Â We treated ourselves to a pastry after lunch - I had an Almond Bear Claw and it was absolutely delicious. Â The guy behind the bakery counter was super friendly too (something you unfortunately don't experience very often these days.) Â Give it a try !
Review Source:Best. Reuben. EVER. Â This old school deli serves fare that is hard to find in this chain-restaurant-littered landscape. Â I had a corned beef reuben on rye - SO AMAZING!! Â I found out that they make the rye bread on premise in the bakery and it puts this classic sandwich over the top. Â Speaking of bakery, I treated myself to a carrot cake cupcake for dessert and it was great (especially the cream cheese frosting).
Review Source:I was passing through Springfield yesterday with a co-worker and we needed to stop and grab something for lunch. Â Not knowing anything in the area, I wasn't expecting much. Â We happened upon this place and stopped by. Â The place has character, which is always a plus. Â
Half deli/half bakery. Â No frills. Â No pretense. Â I had a tuna melt with a chickpea salad as a side, along with a crispy pickle. Â The sandwich was pretty good. Â Nothing to write home about, but it hit the spot. Â Before we finished our lunch we were already tempted by the offerings from the bakery case on the other side of the room. Â I grabbed some fig bars to go. Â Tasty, but an interesting and slightly odd flavor to them that I wasn't expecting. Â
I will definitely be back to Gus and Paul's if I happen to be in Springfield again. Â Next time I'll try a Reuben... Â and a cannoli.
