My wife and I slipped into this small joint in Bloomington on a recommendation. There was a line of about 12 people at the ordering counter, so we knew we had a winner.Winner.Chicken dinner.
I found a table while my wife ordered a spicy gyro combo for me with a small Greek salad and a soda. She got a side of pitas and lentil soup.
The pita was perfect size and had lots of gyro meat and a wonderfully spicy sauce with lots of tomatoes and onions and was just perfect! Â The spiciness was just enough to say "Hello!, guess what, I am spicy!" The gyro meat was flavorful lamb and pork mixed together.
My wife had a fat free cucumber sauce to dip he pita bread into, it was super wonderful. I tried a bite of the lentil soup and it was full of beans and you could tell it was home made. There was even a bay leaf in there to pick out.
The whole bill was $12 too, nice!
I would be surprised if they don't open more locations of this place, super busy for a reason. It was AWESOME!
On the advice of Yelp, I showed up for the best gyro in the Twin Cities. Â I found it! Â Fresh veggies, tender and juicy gyro meat. Â And the spicy tzatziki? Â They're not kidding. Â This isn't Minnesota spicy, this is for real spicy. Â I went through three napkins, two were used solely to wipe my running nose. Â I loved it. Â The space is super clean, and the line is laid out efficiently. Â The pita bread was cooked to perfection, and the sandwich was big enough to feed two.
I snagged a piece of baklava for later and nibbled on it later that night. Â Sadly, that was the only disappointment. Â It was cooked perfect, and not too gooey, but I think the nuts in that batch were rancid, because the taste was off. Â If nuts are chopped too far in advance of cooking, this is a common result. Â I'd give it another try since other reviewers enjoyed it. Â Probably just an off day for that one dish. Â Can't wait to try the fries next time, when I do, I'll bring a friend because I can't imagine eating that much food by myself.
This place gets packed but the line moves very fast so don't be scared to get in line! Â I ordered the spicy gyro which was DE-LICOUSSS.....it had a good kick to it and the meat was tender and very flavorful, and wasn't dry which is a big plus! Â The fries were very tasty also and came seasoned, the rice was good but nothing special, it tastes what rice should taste like. Â Overall the portions were good, price was right and its a great alternative to burgers! Â If I'm ever in the city again this will definetly be on my list of to-go-to food spots.
Review Source:I was taken here by a former co-worker of mine when we were in the mood for something a little different than the standard sandwich/burger lunch fare. When we arrived the place was packed and we had to stand in line for about 10 minutes before we could order. After ordering the food is made very fast and we were out the door with our haul to be consumed back at the office.
The gyros here are quite large and can easily feed most with just one. I was particularly hungry so I went with the combo which included a drink and a greek salad. The spicy gyro sauce on my order was tasty and had just the right amount of kick to liven up the gyro. The lamb meat is tender and juicy with a lot of great seasoning.
I don't work in the Bloomington area anymore but if I'm ever in the area again and need a fast, delicious lunch I'll definitely come back.
Gyropolis is a lunch favorite for many of my coworkers, being within walking distance of their offices. However, I work off-site and rarely get over to that area of Bloomington and thus had never tried this place until recently. I'm glad I finally was able to sample its gyro-goodness. The lamb is extremely tasty, especially coupled with their tzatziki sauce, and the veggies are always fresh. Basically it was exactly what I expected from an authentic Greek fast-casual restaurant. I recommend the "Gyroworks", but everything looks good.
On a side note, for a little more than $25 bucks they have a family platter that provides all the ingredients to make your own gyros at home, and comes with salad and rice. I think its enough food to feed about six people!
I was in the neighborhood and took out my handy dandy yelp app to look up a good inexpensive place to eat for fish friday. I noticed Gyropolis had plenty of good reviews so stopped in to give it a try. Though they don't serve fish but they do have many veggie entrees.
Good thing I did because the food was delicious I really wanted to try this spicy gyro but since no meat I went with the spinach and cheese  pie combo which comes with salad and hummus+pita bread. All very good I added in a pepsi for under 10bucks! The person on the front end was helpful and even added in a few pieces of baked potato :).  Everything was fresh and good portioned for the cost.
Â
so thanks yelp for the awesome find! I'll stop back in many times when I'm craving some greek food.
This Bloomington Gyro shop is a great place to go if you're looking for something different without putting in the time required for a typical sit-down restaurant but want something better than typical fast food. The menu options are unique and diverse enough where anyone should be able to find something appealing; there are gyro's, pita's, pizza's, platters, dessert items and even options for kids. The food is fantastic and the ingredient quality definitely seems above average as well.
The place is a bit on the small side having once been a donut shop, but the seating and order area is set up well enough that it generally isn't a problem. A lot of the customers that come through also order to-go as well, so interior seating hasn't been a problem in my experience even when they are busy.
All in all I definitely recommend giving the place a try, it is an ideal and affordable alternative.
I want to give this 5 stars, but for objectivity reasons (I've only been there once) I'm going to go with 4. Â Likely to be edited at a later date.
After a bunch of yelpers and an internet forum site recommended this joint, I had to check it out. Â Made a quick diversion after work to grab a bite. Â Loved it from the moment I walked in.
The prices were noticeably more friendly than, say, Dino's. Â Big plus in this recession, right?
The menu was more diverse than I expected. Â I went in with my mind set on a gyro, but wait - WHAT IS THIS? Â CALZONES?! Â Anyway, I opted for the spicy gyro and it had just the right kick. Â The pita was fresh. Â The meat was nice and tender. Â I'm totally into the small shop feel that the place has, too - it's a little crammed, but not terrible. Â Several tables, but I opted to take mine back home and grub down there.
My 19 month toddler strongly approved of the fries, btw. Â And he's a connoisseur... so you know you can take that to the bank.
I'm glad I checked the place out. Â I'm going to willingly let them into my wallet again in the near future.
Awesome Yelp find. Â Visiting, I read the reviews and had to check it out. Â I ordered the Gyropolis take-out. Â This is their basic gyro sandwich. Â The pita bread was fresh and soft and they stuffed it with meat. Â I easily had two sandwiches worth of meat. Â The meat tasted great and was not to salty. Â If you are looking for a gem when you are around the Mall of America neighborhood - skip the mall food and check this little place out. Â Thanks Yelpers for turning me on to this one!
Review Source:I go here consistently for lunch. Â I work in Bloomington and all there is out here are chain, boring restaurants. Â Gyropolis is hands down the best place to eat in Bloomington. Â Super fresh ingredients (the owner even owns a farm and that's where some of the veggies come from!). Â We have them cater to every office lunch we have and it's always a hit! Â They even deliver w/ everything you need; forks, plates, napkins, serving ware. Â
Mmm...even just a warm pita from Gryopolis makes me happy!!
OK looking for a bite a little late one nite after a day of running around, and we found this place on Yelp. It was closing soon so we rushed down. It is a very nice family run operation good food good service and filled the both of us up for $16. It was cute when the son was telling us about one of the dishes and the big selling point was my mom made it, from what we had she can cook for us anytime. I can see us back here if it fits in.
Review Source:The Spicy Gyro served here is the best in the Southwest, hands down. Â After the Gyro shop nearest my workplace changed the quality of meat they put in their gyros, a co-worker suggested we try Gyropolis. Â I'm hooked.
The service was fast, the price was reasonable, and the gyro was absolutely delicious. Â My suggestion is to go bold, or go home. Â Order up the spicy.
The fries I had as a side were underwhelming, but understandable. Â You call yourself Gyropolis...it should be about the gyro, not the fries. Â Still, the fries were lightly seasoned, but a bit on the greasy side.
Good Gyros at Gyropolis.
These are hands down the best tasting Gyros that I've had in the Twin Cities. Whats also really nice is that this is one of the few places where I can actually eat my Gyro the way it was intended to be, a sandwich.
I'm sure everyone has had experiences at other places where to start with you can't fit the Gyro in your mouth then your pita bread rips on you and cucumber sauce gets all over hands, not cool. This does not happen here and I love them for it. The service is fantastic, the prices are affordable, and the place is really clean, what more could you ask for?
Okay, time to say what everyone else has already said about this place. In short, its friggin' awesome! There's even a little old lady that comes in at night to make the pitas by hand!
Not only is it authentic and delicious, but you can get a HUGE stuffed pita for 6.35. I like this. A lot.
Make sure to get here ahead of the lunch rush if you can- it can get pretty packed around 12pm.
Looking forward to trying their Feast this week, which is supposed to feed 4-5 for $30 bucks, but thats for another review...
I preface this review by clarifying my star rating...Gyropolis is not a five star restaurant, but it is a five star casual counter service greek spot!
My wife and I eat Greek food often and have struggled to find really good greek food that is not upscale.
Gyropolis is comfortable, casual, and very much a neighborhood spot.
The food is the star.
This family operation produces almost everything in house and you can tell. Â The Gyro meat is seasoned perfectly and the tzatziki sauce is fantastic. Â They even offer tzatziki with a spicy twist if you like,
Menu is compact with a few american twists available for people looking for something different.
Portions are remarkably generous and the service was sincere and prompt.
Everything is made right in front of you and you can modify and tweak as you like.
They dont do a lot, but what they do they do well.
Baklava was among the best we have ever had, you could tell it was made in the kitchen and had never been frozen!
Perhaps the best sign of their quality was the level of business. Â We arrived after 1:00 on a Saturday and the line was eight deep with seating at a premium.
Owners work the line and interact with their guests, many of whom they seemed to know by name. Â It was a refreshing approach in the midst of so many places with young staff who seem to hate their jobs and wish you would leave them alone so they could go text their friends.
I highly recommend Gyropolis and suggest you give them a visit.
Their Olympian platter is an excellent combination of meat, rice, and some Greek salad. I think their gyro meat tastes much more authentic because they use some portion of lamb, which is the way it should be!
It was also nice to see the small place teeming with people this weekend. Usually when we are at Gyropolis there are only a few other people there, but I suppose Saturday afternoons are a popular time to enjoy some gyros.
I loved Gyropolis! When I lived in Bloomington on W.98th Street, this place was close enough to grab some food after work or on the weekends and take it back to the apartment and eat. I have always loved Greek / Mediterranean food. I would kill for hummus, feta and baklava. Â I liked the lamb gyro and I like to pile it up with tomato, onion, and their yummy sauce, and I like cucumber sauce on the side. I get it with the fries, which are thick cut and amazing! Very good service. Place is a bit small inside, but the food really makes up for it! Â If you are in the mood for something like "fast food", skip McDonald's and Wendy's for a change and go to Gyropolis!
Review Source:Great lunch spot if you are in the area. The gyros are great especially with the spicy sauce. Even better is the gyro salad. The salad comes with a small but tasty Greek salad with includes a good portion of olives and feta cheese.
I've tried the pizzas they're fine but not as good as the wonderful gyros. Â Super friendly staff what more do you want?
If you can't make it to Greece, go to Gyropolis.
We met up with my sister here for lunch and it's a good thing she told us to meet up before the lunch crowd. By 11:45, there weren't any empty tables.
We ordered the spicy gyro, the spicy chicken pita, fries, and the Mediterranean plate. We could hardly finish it all. All of this for $23. Tasty and quick. What more can you ask for???
YUM. Â This place is great for a cheap, tasty gyro. Â Everything is very fresh including the fries that they will make order-by-order to ensure piping hot goodness. Â I opted for the "light gyro" on a recent visit which seems to be the same as the regular gyro w/ half the meat. Â It was the perfect size and I didn't feel like I was going to explode afterwards which is always a plus. Â My husband had the fries (tasty) and a regular gyro w/ spicy sauce. Â They also have salads and gyro pizzas that looked pretty good. Â I will be back.
Review Source:I like this place! Â I finally wandered in after my "go-to" deli suddenly closed earlier this week. (H & H Cafe across the corner). Â Ordered the gyros salad with the spicy cucumber sauce. Â It comes with a pita too. Â Good tasting, worth the price. Â Quick & efficient service. Â I like that I can tell them exactly what I want on my salad as they're making it. Â I'll be back!
Review Source:The gyros here are awesome. Â Love the cucumber sauce, love the real gyro meat, and I love the variety in the menu. Â They make the french fries per order, which is great - they are always hot and fresh for you, and I don't know what they season them with but it's great! Â I really like the baklava, too. Â
It's small inside, but there always seems to be an empty table. Â
I am confused by their hours - are they closed on Sundays? Â And not open very late? Â I live in the area and I can never quite figure out when they are open, I suppose I should write down the hours.
Staff is SUPER nice and has never once laughed at me when I've pronounced Gyro wrong. Â
This is a saturday lunch favorite for the husband and I!
Normally, I'd classify myself as an adventurous orderer. Â But, when I go to Gyropolis, I always get suckered into ordering the Olympian. Â So good. Â The perfect combo of gyros meat, rice, salad, pitas and cucumber sauce. Â Oh, and of course, I always ask for it spicy! Â Skip the Baklava though, save the calories and just be a part of the clean plate club instead. Â Some of the best fast food you can get! Â
I hear that the difference between say Dino's and Gyropolis is that Gyropolis uses lamb/pork mix, despite the idea that it might turn us Plain-Jane Midwesterners away. Â I'm not afraid of eating lamb - so bring it on!!!
In all, Gyropolis has fast service and it travels well if you're taking it to go.
Nice place, looks like a chain but, is a family owned business by two brothers who had previously worked with the rest of the family over at Deli Supreme on Lyndale & 98th (also very good). Â I have seen and spoken with George and Constantine (small talk couple times a year) over the years and watched them grow since they were kids. Â Now they moved out and started their own hit Gyropolis. Â Great Gyro's, Greek salads, pizza. Â I always go with the Gyropolis (basically the Gyro) then ask for mustard to be added with extra cucumber sauce (the Athenian has mustard and fry's in addition but, I don't like fry's on my Gyro so I always just go with the standard Gryo and ask them to add mustard). Â Fantastic Gryo's.
If George or Constantine are working the counters say hi, they are super friendly and the staff will make the Gyro almost any way that you want it.
Gyropolis looks like a chain but I believe it is the only location and family run. I have had both the regular and chicken gyros and they are great at $6. I have not had a problem getting extra toppings free (even though a sign says they cost extra). Definitely ask for a thing of cucumber sauce to dip your fries in.
Haven't gotten the pizza but my co-worker got the "meat-lovers" today- gyro meat, pepperoni, and bacon (drool). Mmm greasy goodness.
The only complaint I have is the fries are kindof under-done in the middle and soggy on the outside, but I guess it kind of evens out. Also they need more space as it gets really packed during lunch and sometimes there is nowhere to sit.
Best gyros in town...period. Â For the adventurous eaters (that won't be in close proximity to others for the rest of the day), try the "Athenian" with the spicy tzatziki sauce. It is a true flavor explosion.
It can be tough to get a spot to sit during the weekday lunch rush, try getting there a little earlier than noon to avoid any hassles. They have some nice outdoor seating available if the weather is nice.
I can't say I've had a gryo, but I did have me some chicken pita and I loved it! Â I'd give it 5 stars but didn't try the gryo, so I figured it wouldn't be right to give it 5 stars. Â But the pita...the pita was delicious. Â There were a few tables to sit at, but good enough. Â It seems most people take it to go anyway. Â The cucumber sauce is light and yummy!
Totally recommend it and I will one of these days try the gryo.....
