We summer in Portola and we drive to Chester a couple times a month to eat their wonderful Chinese food. Â We live in Oklahoma and have eaten in many chinese restaurants and this is our favorite. Â The owner and his wife are friendly with everyone and make you feel special....AND they even have given me instructions on how to cook some of their dishes! Â Excellent food, clean and friendly and we look forward to summertime for their delicious food!
Review Source:If this was a Chinese restaurant in a large city it would be a 2 star restaurant. Â But in the small town of Chester it's probably 4 stars.....so.... I am giving it 3 stars. Â Nice place, really friendly owners/servers. Â We ate as much as we could. Â But is was all just good.....nothing outstanding. Â But since it's Chester, next time we are here, we will eat here again.
Review Source:There was this Chinese place in Chester I saw time and time again back in the day. I'm 99% sure this is the same place, though I can't say if it's under the same management. But I'll write a review anyways.
I had driven by this place a number of times, but was always reluctant to try it. Coming from San Francisco, my standards for Chinese food was rather high, especially compared to that of rural folk. But on this one chilly evening, we said the hell with it, let's go in.
It was a rather busy night, practically a full house. The servers were all white, but the owners were Chinese. We ordered a couple of stir fry dishes (can't remember what) and some white rice. The food, to our surprise, was rather good. We were expecting something along the lines of a step below Panda Express, but we were pleasantly mistaken.
As the crowds of diners started emptying out, the owners were talking to some regulars, and they explained that one of the employees called in sick which resulted in chaos. We asked the lady owner how she ended up all the way up in Plumas County, and if I recall correctly, she explained that her family lived in Fremont for a while before deciding to settle down in Chester.
Anyways, this was way back in the late '90s. Â If this place still serves the same food, it might be worth a try.
:-)
Excellent Chinese food in Chester, CA. Â
My husband and I wandered in on a whim and had a delicious dinner at Happy Garden. Â I had the hot and sour soup, as good as any I've had, and my husband had velvet corn and crab soup and some steamed pork buns. Â The portions were generous, the food was tasty and the prices were low. Â What more can you ask for? Â Friendly waitstaff? Â They had that too.
Check 'em out if you are in the mood for Chinese, Happy Garden does good food, friendly service and good prices.
