I had the shrimp and tuna wraps. Was expecting it in a flour type wrap but it was far better, it was in lettuce. More of a salad, actually.

The lunch beer special is also very reasonable. And their own brew (the American Ale) was outstanding.

Right across from the State History Museum ... a fun and inexpensive afternoon.

Harmon is great for Burgers, Pizza, and Beer and all day Happy Hr on Sunday.  Stick with that on the menu and you will not be disappointed.  Little short on servers on weekends, but, staff is great.

Had a great coupon, so we headed back to the Harmon. It's a super bargain on Mondays, even without Living Social or Groupon, with the Happy Hour menu featuring great, cheap choices and Harmon brewskis at $3 a pop.

Faithful companion had the Caesar's and Calamari from the Happy Hour menu. I had a French Dip with a side salad. We each had one of the Harmon Porters. If you like dark beers, it's a nice option.

Server was friendly, well-informed, efficient, and energetic. Best service we have had there.

My only whine was the French Dip. There must have been a beef shortage here in Ecotopia, because although the bread was perfect and the dipping sauce tasty, I had to put out an APB in order to find the beef. What I found was perfect: they blend in cheddar and horseradish. Just wanted more of it.

Visitors before 6 should watch out, as the Tacoma Confiscatory Parking Fees are in effect. In general, parking is tough unless you go across to the Museum parking lot and give up your first-born child. We suggest parking at Freighthouse Square near the Tacoma Dome and taking the cute little light-rail line back to the Harmon.

The food here was great. It did seem to be a little slow, but was well worth the wait. The food came about the time we started to ask how long it had been, so was not too late. The crab mac & cheese is to die for.

Food is just okay. Lunch hour has $2 beers which is a great deal. I'm just not a huge fan of their beer.

We had nachos. Chips tasted bland with no flavor and kind of greasy.

This is my second time to Harmon. Sunday is all you can eat fish and chips. Both times have happened to be on Sundays and I haven't been impressed with the fish and chips at all. Fries even weren't great. But very friendly staff.

Our go to spot. Their service has been pretty good all the times we have been, the orders even when asked to add or leave something off has been right on, and their IPA is the ticket. I check in on FB and show the server and my first IPA is only $2.00. Has an area for families, groups, and also has a bar for over 21. This is my wife's favorite place to go to. She even wanted to come here for Mother's Day.

Some of the best food in Tacoma. It gets pretty busy during happy hour and on the weekends but it is well worth the wait. Their pizza is out of this world, must try the Tacoma Margherita. The Tacoma Dome dip is a tasty twist on a classic French dip and even though they're not a BBQ joint they present some pretty awesome ribs.

Damn good breakfast/brunch spot that surprisingly isn't on the map (yet). Good for kids.

Harmon beers themselves are not so hot.

Breakfast here was ok, edible but wouldn't be my first pick. The server was great and she even noted that there was a groupon. She let us pull it up and purchase it right at the table. With it we were able to purchase our breakfast and a growler (sp) for my husband :)

They open early on Sundays. Yelp says 11 but I called at 9 and they were open already!

We've gone here a few times within the past year. We went for dinner and the service was pretty good. We had a group of about 15 that time. Then on a Saturday last month we went for lunch and the service was horrible. We sat and waited over 45 minutes for our food and the waitress didn't check in often. Then we went for brunch last Sunday and sat in the bar where the service was ok. Overall the food is pretty good and we will keep coming back. It's just the service..they really could step it up a notch.

I end up here a lot. It's a simple, "kid is asleep and I need to get out of the house so I call up a girlfriend for a drink" kinda place.  There's always a relaxed atmosphere and decent service.  They have rotating Happy Hour specials which is fun
We've done the breakfast thing a few times.  Kids eat free on Sundays!!!  It's not the most amazing breakfast out there, but it's good. The perks of free kid food and $3 mimoas/Bloody Mary's are hard to beat.

As Jen B has pointed out, the fries here are basically crack. Beer battered garlic fries? Yes, please!

Plus, the always important: BEER. The selection wasn't that huge, but the brown ale that I had was quite delicious. The name escapes me, but I know the server mentioned that it was going to be a part of their regular rotation soon.

My boyfriend had his usual, a chicken sandwich. He mixed it up though by ordering the spicy chicken sandwich at the Server's suggestion, he thought it was good, but nothing mind blowing.

I thoroughly enjoyed my French Dip sandwich. It included cheese and....wait for it.... fried onion straws! You can put fried onion straws on pretty much anything and I will be happy, it was quite delightful on their already delicious French Dip. It's a simple sandwich, but somehow oh so easy to mess up. For those that love a French Dip though, and happen to be in Tacoma, definitely try it out.

Given it's location next to the UW-Tacoma campus, I wasn't surprised to see so many college students. I was surprised to see so many families with small children. The place is huge though, and can handle a number of large parties at once.

All in all, I would definetely come back here if I am ever in the area.

We came here on a Sunday afternoon. The hostess greeted up promptly and seated us right away.

Then we were IGNORED....no water, no drinks orders, nothing...several staff members walked by, but NO ONE stopped to serve our table. There were several empty tables, so they didn't even have the excuse of being busy.

    Were we invisible...???

Finally we flagged down a passing waiter, who graciously agreed to serve us even though it was not his area. (Thanks Jerry!)

Drinks finally arrived, along with our onion rings appetizer. They were all good.

Then we waited, and waited, and waited some more for our meals to arrive. During that time we observed at least two other tables that had been seated AFTER we were, that received their food.

We finally complained to our waiter, who apologized profusely, and notified the manager. Then - lo and behold - our meals arrived. Egh..the fish in my fish & chips was over-cooked, dry and flavorless. The tarter sauce tasted like mayo with a bit of pickles thrown in. (And no one asked it I wanted any refills of my all-you-can-eat fish & chips.) My companions meals were just ordinary, with nothing special to recommend them.

The onions rings, parmesan fries, and the porter are all that we can half-heartedly recommend.

The manager did stop by with a rote apology and some coupons for free appetizers on our next visit. However, I doubt that we'll be back.

This place is fun and endearing in a way I can't possibly express. We went for dinner on a Saturday night and were treated to not one, but two, live performances. Granted, the performers were well past the age of 40, but who doesn't love to see a guy with a vein popping out of his forehead screaming a Zeppelin song, am I right? The music was so loud we couldn't hear each other speak, the lights were more than a bit too bright, and the food was standard pub fare.

But the portions were huge--I was full on nachos before the pizza came. The IPA was better than drinkable. The service was helpful--our waiter knew that the refried beans had lard and made our nachos properly vegetarian--if a bit slow.

Thumbs up, Harmon Brewing Company. Keep doing what you're doing. (But turn the volume down while we're eating, thanks.)

I went to UW-T for 2 years and never ate here. Don't know why. My friends are always bugging me about the $3 steak day but I live in Seattle now so it's not really convenient to come down in the middle of the week.

Finally went to lunch with some friends during happy hour. It's a pretty good deal. I got the angus beef sliders and a 10" pizza. It was more than enough. Pretty much the whole pizza was leftovers. One thing to note is it costs $2 extra for fries as a side (this portion could have been more generous). The 2 sliders looked like crabby patties and were bomb. I would definitely recommend them.. only 5 bucks during happy hour. Friends got wings, nachos, the special sandwich (which looked pretty delicious)

The layout  and decor is what you would expect from the name. Service was very timely. Our server was nice. I think it's a nice place to eat in Downtown Tacoma. A 3 and a half star rating would be perfect for this place but I'll go ahead and give it a 4. Pretty cool place to eat at in the Tac.

I was warned by Steven that getting beer at Harmon can be a tricky one. They have their flagship beer mapped out on the menu and through previous experience he thought that their flagship beers were not all that great.
What he and I learned is to ask what other beers they have on tap besides the flagships and try out their seasonal beers which seem to have a better track record.
So we asked and they had a Red IPA on tap. I got it.
The beer was not too bad, nice and hoppy. We did not want a big meal so we shared a chicken quesadilla, cheese sticks and an apple crisp. All tasted good but the bill seemed a bit steeper than one would think when ordering three dishes to share and two beers. Everything was rung up right too.
The waitress was nice and eager to please.
Probably the best part to Harmon was the music that they played. The old Smith's song "Ask Me" came on and it put me in a daffodil throwing, moping kind of song mood. I know. Morrissey does all that the best.

The Harmon is a popular place for my husband and I to go to when we want to grab some drinks or after work with co-workers when we'd like to unwind from a long day. I'd like to start out with the fact that the Harmon has an unbeatable happy hour - three pm to six pm every single day. $3 pints of micro brewed beers (they don't serve anything else), $3 glasses of wine, and $5 well drinks with $5 appetizers. Parking can be a bit of a nightmare as it is limited on the street and must be paid for by the customer (a lot of restaurants in the area offer to pay for parking).

More often than not when I go in we do go in for happy hour - they have remarkably good house wines and getting them at three dollars a glass is great. Same goes for the micro brewed beers - you can't even buy most cheap domestics at that price at other restaurants that are equal to this in setting/style.

Appetizers are always good here, calamari is served with an excellent spicy sauce that is addictive (though the breading on them is a little heavy), the nachos are ridiculously good if you get them with beef (chicken is a little bland), the wings are tasty and wonderful and above all else their french fries (tossed in parmesan cheese) are to die for.

Drink menu outside of the happy hour prices is a little bit spendier than I'd like but the drinks are tasty and quality made. The food itself as far as entrees go tend to stick with typical pub-style fare but occasionally step outside the box with some different toppings and things for burgers. I wasn't wowed by the quality of my burger (but then, I'm from the Midwest so I'm a beef snob) and while the crab mac n' cheese is filling it is also a little on the bland side.

Service here is spotty sometimes, on occasion we get a good server but more often than not the waitresses and waiters seem to be stretched a little thin - it doesn't appear that they have bad employees so much as it seems that they don't seem to be staffed appropriately all the time. Food is sometimes slow coming out and occasionally we've waited an unreasonable length of time to be greeted by someone once we were sat at a table. More than a couple times we've missed out on ordering more drinks because our server simply vanished after taking our order (food is brought to the table by a food runner and not the server) not to be seen again until it was time to present the check (at which point they do so without inquiring about anything else we might like before we pay).

Overall the Harmon is worth it if you're going out for a quick drink during happy hour and maybe a light snack with a group of friends or a spouse in a casual setting, but if you wan good food with stellar service outside of their happy hour times I don't recommend it to you simply because you can find similar prices and better service and food that is equal or perhaps even better than what is served here (with the exception of the french fries, of course).

Pull up a seat, grab a coffee, and get comfortable, this is going to be a long one.

Out of 161 reviews so far ,this review marking 162 reviews. I have only given a 1 star rating 10 times, and 2 star ratings 17 times, this makes my number 18- 2 star rating, and I was torn on giving this place a 1 or a 2 stars. I settled on the 2 stars, because the wait staff has been really nice.

Visit #1 was about two weeks or so ago. Monday night, $3 steak night. This is my first visit, and I'm not expecting a full steak meal or anything large or fancy for $3.
I pictured a small steak, and if you wanted sides, you'd pay for them, so I was expecting to pay $12-$16 for my meal. When I got there I was told that the steak came with fries, no exceptions, they were strict about that, I was willing to pay more money for sides, but I didn't know what to expect, so I just went along with the flow.
I waited a decent amount of time for the food to come, and the steak they served me was 1 1/2 inches long, by maybe an inch wide. I've looked at the pictures here on Yelp, and mine looked nothing like the pictures on here.
It was small, but it was still good, and for $3 I'm not going to complain... much, so I decided that I wanted to order more food, I was still hungry.
I waited, and I waited, and I waited for someone to check up on me, so that I could order more food.
As I sat there I overheard some college students asking if certain items were made in the kitchen, or if they came from a box, the answers were that most of the stuff came from a box.
At that point I was tired, and done. I didn't want to wait for someone to make me more food, and so I left, but not before my server convinced me to try their breakfast though.
I was so hungry when I left, that I had to stop at a drive thru on my way home for some food. That is just not right.

    Visit #2
I was browsing around on Groupon, and I saw that the Harmon had a groupon out for breakfast. How perfect. I'm going to give this place another try, and now I have a groupon, so I have to go and give it another shot, I was hopeful.
Breakfast hours were until noon. We drove forever looking for parking, and so we didn't get in until 11:32, but we still had plenty of time for breakfast.
We ordered our drinks right away, and by 11:40 at the latest we ordered our food. At 12:08 my son asked for a VIRGIN drink; I was told that breakfast was done, and the drink specials were over, and that he'd be charged the FULL price of an alcoholic drink even though he was not drinking any alcohol, I said that I'd pass, I don't need the special, but I didn't expect to pay for alcohol if there was not going to be any in it. FOUR tables were sat while we waited, they ALL had food on their tables, AND apologizes for their waits.  The manager then came by at 12:22 and told me that our ticket had only been presented to the kitchen for a whole 12 minutes. Granted our server may have messed up, but the manager came out blaming our server, and even though she was being apologetic, it didn't feel like she was trying to solve our problem, more than she was trying to shift the blame. I don't care who was to blame, I want to know that your sorry, that you're looking into it, and that you are going to do everything that you can to get my food out to me, I don't care for the blame game, just fix it.
We showed up at 11:32, and we got our food at 12:55.
I ordered their Benedict eggs with salmon, and the muffin part was merely opened, and placed COLD on my plate, they did not toast it ,or warm it up in any way, the dish tasted AWFUL.
I asked our server if that was how they are normally made, and she said that she'd look into it.
The manager then came out with the bill, and had taken my food, and one of my sons order off the bill for our inconvenience. NO ONE offered to fix my order or make it again. My son ended up giving me part of his meal. Two visits, and I left hungry from both visits, not ok. People all around us were complaining, and one couple even sent their cold oatmeal back to the kitchen.
They kept bringing up the fact that I had a groupon, I felt almost penalized for having it.  After she took the 2 meals off, I would have paid more for the groupon than the total was, so I just paid, and you can bet, that I'm getting a refund from groupon.
Update: so it just dawned on me that kids eat free on Sunday, that was why his kids meal was taken off.

I've been here 4 times now.  And every time I go I leave satisfied.
Three times I've had the fish n'chips.  I was going to get something different this time, but the fish n'chips are so good!  I know I should be adventurous... but but.. nooooo!!

I am adventurous with the beer though!
Hands down their beer is awesome.  I always get the seasonal beer on tap and I've *never* been let down.  Their beers are exceptional.  This time was a dark belgium style that coated the throat with a sweet nectar goodness.

So next time I go, I promise to get something other than fish n'chips (for real real) and I also promise to get their seasonal brew.  This should give me a little more to talk about.

In regards to service, when we walked in we were asked if we wanted to sit at the bar or in the restaurant.  I asked which was warmer.  The young woman answered restaurant and showed us to our seat.  Our waitress was lovely and attentive.  After asking for our drink order she carded us, which is always fun for me, and as I was reaching for my ID I said "No, I can't give you my ID, it's in my pant's pocket at home." Thankfully, she knew I was not twenty years old, and gave me a beer.  Thank you!  Besides that, everything else was pretty normal and service was impeccable.

I also got to see my 49ers win the game that sent them to the SuperBowl, so all in all is was a DARN good meal.

    WHOOP WHOOP! GO NINERS!!!!!

    sorry... couldn't help it...

    beer - fish n'chips - football = AWESOME

I have been to the Harmon around 10 times and I now can fully rate this place without feeling guilty about a two star rating.

The good: it's easy to get to, a large variety of items on the menu, can accommodate a large group.

The bad:  The Harmon has the most inconsistent service of any restaurant.  It does not matter if this place is busy or empty, I have been ignored in both situations and I have been well taken care of in both situations.  I do not like waiting 15 minutes for a water, especially when I am there with my two year old son.

The ugly:  The menu.  Their menu consists of the same items you can find everywhere, but they're named differently.  Mt. Rainier nachos=nachos.  It is nothing special whatsoever.   With that said, they don't do their own items very well.  Mediocre food with mediocre service.    What makes the Harmon one of the worst restaurants in Tacoma is the pricing on the menu.   Everything is overpriced to the point that makes you curious.  "If a salad is 14 dollars, it must be delicious and super fresh".  Wrong.  Their pricing makes the Harmon ONLY a good spot if you are there during happy hour.

The pricing issue is true for the other restaurants involved with the Harmon (the Tap Room and the Hub).  Only go during happy hour because their pricing does not make sense for a casual dining restaurant.  I enjoy expensive food when the price matches quality, but the Harmon does not.

After living around the corner from here for a few months my partner and I finally made it in. We went in on a Sunday and found they had an all you can eat fish and chips special, it was good fish (cod) and served with garlic fries (not too bad really) the tartar sauce needs help, but it was good for the 12.99 price.

We had a few picks from the Happy Hour menu and being a fan of Nachos made the call for the nacho pile. It was sad to see they dump the goods on the top of the chips vs layering, by the time you get past the outer area you are met by naked chips and cooled cheese.

The restaurant is great, the waiter was awesome! for being a game day the place was still comfortable and I could hear my partner when she spoke. We will go back and try a few of the other tasty things on the menu.

Argh! Don't you love recommending a place to a group of friends, only to receive terrible service and sub-par food? Embarrassing...

I was a fan of this place until the last time I went. It was a busy, Saturday night and we sat in the bar. We got there at 6, and informed our waitress that we needed to be somewhere at 7:30.

It took an eternity for the waitress to take our order, and even longer for our food to arrive. We even flagged our waitress down and asked her what was taking so long. She feigned concern and told us she'd check in the kitchen. She never did come back and update us, and we continued to wait.

I ordered their southwest style salad. When it finally arrived, it was bland and needed more dressing. I ended-up taking it home and fixing it up myself. It still sucked, so I threw it out.

The other people in my party were equally disappointed with their chili, wings, soups, salads, and SERVICE.

If you or the kitchen are backed up, just be honest. Don't act like you're concerned and understand our hurry, but then continue the same, slow service.

Using our holiday groupon to try their breakfast.

My husband purchased two groupons for breakfast at Harmon Brewing Co & Restaurant. We hadn't ever been to the restaurant, even thought we are a fan of their beers, so this was a great opportunity to check them out. And I say, get on over there on the weekend.

Can you say $3 mimosas? Yep, they have those, plus $3 bloody marys if you like like that kind of thing.  We both tried their benedict breakfasts. My husband had the classic and I went all PNW and ordered the dungeness crab. De-lish!!! The accompanying hashbrowns were crispy without being burnt or greasy. And breakfast for 2, with a mimosa each, was less than $30. We had to order another mimosa, darn it, to use up all $30 of the Groupon.

The inside is roomy and industrial looking. You aren't all cozy with your neighboring tables,so it's a more private dining experience. It did get louder as it filled with patrons, because there isn't much to absorb the noise. it might be hard to converse when the place is hopping.

We checked out the dinner menu and it has suggested beer pairings. Plus, gluten free items are noted on the menu. We will definitely be back for dinner.

Be forewarned, parking is a bit of a bitch and now Tacoma is requiring a parking fee M-Sa like Seattle. The restaurant is right by UW Tacoma and the Glass Museum. Great day= brunch at Harmon's, wander around the UW campus, mosey over to the glass bridge, maybe take in the museum, then back to Harmon's for a pint. Boom! How's that for a slice of fried gold?

Beer was cold, food was good, what else do you need? I had a burger and it was pretty good. It was flavored good, but it seemed like a frozen patty. Garlic fries were good. My wife had the coconut shrimp and you actually get a lot. We also ordered the steamer clams. uhm It was below avg. We were there around 9PM and I couldn't believe the amount of kids there.  I had to ask the waitress if it was a brewery! In regards to service. I would have to rate it a 2. Hardly saw our server. In fact the table next to us was trying to waive her down. I had to basically grab her to let her know the table next to us was trying to get her attention for about 10 min. You couldnt blame it on it being busy because there were plenty of empty tables.

I would have rated it higher if it wasn't for the service.

I ordered the calamari to start. Tasted like fried bread crumbs. The calamari bath they give you with it was nothing to write home about (bland). Then came my fish and chips. The fish came in two chicken Breast size patties. Much to big to eat with your hands unless your the kind of person where silver wear is optional. The fries were decent. The powdered confetti was definitely something to get used too but all in all was edible. The fish on the other hand should of swam fast from the fishermans net. Cause I was embarrassed for the fish tasting that badly.

We usually go here about once a week or so for their Happy Hour menu, and love their nachos. (Read some poor reviews on their nachos that I don't understand; makes me wonder exactly what some peoples' perception of nachos are...)

The chicken skewers used to be awesome, the last time we were there they had changed the preparation and flavor of them and they were less than stellar,
but overall it is a nice brewpub and the food is reasonably priced.

We've been quite a few times and have had no problems with the service, but I will add that we usually go later at night during the week, 9pm or later, and usually on Tuesdays, so there is definitely not much of a crowd to compete with.

I haven't tried any of their beer, but I do love that they brew their own, and that they cook/pair with beer.

I want to like this place. I really do. We go there on the way to T-dome events. But the reality is the food is not that good. The beer is not that good. The staff is all hip college kids who are perfectly nice; but I have never had good service there. On this occasion, service was so poor we wanted to get up and leave more than once. And there appeared to be more servers working than there were occupied tables.
    Bad.
Oh, and by the way (and this is important): "Tacoma's best nachos", aren't.
On the plus side, I did have really good breakfast there one time!

Pizza uncooked in center. Sandwhich bread "toasted" stale but not golden. Decent beer, should be better.

Worst damn service. Waited a long time for any wait-noid to come by, finally ordered a beer. (Took a while) Our server was personality-free & barely was there. Food was slow (that's the kitchen, but some attention would have been nice.) There were piles of workers, but no one seemed to be working. Kinda a slow Sunday night.

Typical college dump. Avoid. oh, and Restrooms = yuk.

Once again...my journey through the Tacoma scene continues being a new resident and why not go to the bar/restaurant that is smack dab in front of you when you exit I-5 and enter downtown (or as we noticed here in Washington downtowns are actually called City Centers!...I guess it's a Northwest thing).

We were bored on a Sunday and as I noted in another review, alot of restaurants are actually closed on Sundays here ie Indochine Lounge next door which limits your places to head out to!

Although we've driven back and forth Pacific Ave around the area where UW Tacoma is, we haven't really experienced the area and decided we might as well try out Harmon Brewing Company.

Tacoma provided us with dreary weather and it was a good excuse to get a drink...

We shared their famed Rainier Nachos which were HUGE as well as a garlic chicken pizza...and got myself their seasonal pale ale.

Food was overall pretty good, beer was refreshing and environment well..it's a pub! Nothing super awesome or super special about it but it was a pleasant experience.

Very convenient location especially if you want to hit up the museums across the street...

Also researching places to rent, I think it's cool you can rent out the lofts above it...but once we saw the floor plans they are SUPER TINY especially if you're a couple and have lots of stuff...they do have 2 bedrooms but all they did was split an original one bedroom into two and made a wall...would probably have moved into the Harmon Lofts in a heartbeat if their lofts were fewer and far more spacious...alas I digress. Still 3 stars for the Harmon restaurant.

I've been three times, because my first time was so good. On the first visit, I had a unique grilled fish sandwich...it had a slab of Brie cheese, which hastily melted into syrupy gooey goodness all over the fish, with an interesting flair being added with the chunk of roasted pepper. Fish was cooked to a perfect tenderness; No rubber or cloth sensations in my mouth.  Was also a HUGE chunk of fish. Filling were the accompanying garlic/parm fries, though I've had much better...they had to be of the frozen species.....bit still "okay".  I just prefer fresh cut fries, so some of you may find them to be just fine.

Went back during happy hour, choosing the Mount Rainier Nachos.  My dining pal and I each ordered one, to which our overly perfumed waitress did a little step back, only very subtly so we didn't question...thought maybe her perfume was making her a lil fog headed or something....but when they arrived, all was illuminated.  They....were....gargantuan....NO, really they were out of this world big!  I'll attach a pic so you can see for yourselves here...see that?  BIG or what???  The name "Mount Rainer" was not only to pay homage to the largest mountain in WA, but because it bears a similarity....They were as good as one would expect chips, cheese, refried beans, pico de gallo, guac and sour cream and  a jar of jalapenos to be...nothing otu of this world unique... Though it was my dinner, I ate about a forth before calling it quits, so you may wanna share one.

Third time I had the lunch fried cod sandwich, and really didn't find it special at all.  The bun did have a nice texture...chewy and grilled, but the fish was really plain jane fish stick style...not the batter you would hope to find on a good pub wich.

I'll probably try the veggie wich next time. :-)

I have to say - they've really got a great thing going on here!  It is such a fun place to chill out, watch a game and grab a tasty brew.  They also have a great happy hour if you can make it!

Their hummus plate is my absolute FAVORITE!  Their burgers are juicy and delicious and their ribs? To die for.

It is a fun place to be and a favorite amongst our friends.  We can even bring our daughter here!  Sunday, kids eat free with a paying adult.  :)  Definitely a no-brainer there.

I really wish we could give half stars, because I really want to give Harmon 3.5 stars.  I'll just have to go back and try it again!

I came for an early lunch with two big eaters and a kiddo.  Husband just really wanted to drink beer (who cares that it was before noon!), so we both ordered an appetizer, intending to go light on the food.  It was still fairly early on a weekend, and they were serving mimosas - I couldn't resist.  It was the perfect balance of OJ and champagne.  Husband was satisfied with his beer.

Our appetizers were huge.  HUGE. Definitely good size for sharing. We intended to eat them as our meal, but they were more like 2 meals each.  I had the hummus plate, and husband ordered the nachos.  I've never seen him unable to finish a plate of nachos until this visit.  I loved the variety of toppings on the hummus plate, although the hummus itself wasn't overly flavorful and the nachos had obviously been sitting under the warmer for awhile being brought out.  Our friend ordered an actual entree, and his portion wasn't nearly as large as ours.

They were accommodating to the kiddo in our party who had some dietary restrictions, so a huge thank you for that.  Overall, it was a good experience and although I wouldn't make a special trip back, I'd stop back in if I was in the area.

Harmon defines the Tacoma brewing scene, and while the beer is generally top-notch, the food is more middling.

In a town that often strives to meet the expectations of the Seattle metropolitan area, Harmon's food often left a little to be desired. The smoky burger, for instance, was over-handled, resulting in a burger that, while a juicy medium, was packed too tightly, and the texture became gummy. The gouda that provided some of the titular smoke was added at the last minute to the burger, so it wasn't in any way melted, and seemed to be added as an afterthought. Along with an average piece of lettuce and some pickles and tomato, the final product was nothing extraordinary.

The fries, too were forgettable. Frozen and only with a hint of the garlic the menu promised, the nice texture did little to sway me from wishing I had ordered the homemade chips.

The beer makes up for much of this. With a deep understanding of styles along with a willingness to explore with multiple types of barley and hops, it's easy to see how you can usually find a 750 in most megamarts.

    Brew+Good Food+Trivia Night=One hell of a good time!

Best Eats: Cod Sandwich with extra Bree cheese. The cod was flaky, the bun is nicely toasted with an aoli mayo and the roasted red peppers are perfection.

Best Brew Choice: The sampler. Best of all the worlds.  Next best thing is the Blonde Ale

Best Night: Wednesday for Trivia Night. Team names are hilarious.  I highly recommend coming as a group. Multiple heads are better than one.
