We came here for a bachelorette party and glad we did. First off, service was great. OUr waitress was super friendly and gave us such helpful nightlife hints. There definitely is a fishy smell when you walk in, but u do get used to it. They have outdoor seating even though we didn't take advantage of it. They have $10 buckets of coronitas or bud light lime. Calamari - flavor wise was good, but a little too greasy for my liking. I had the oyster starting with the R- and it was great and refreshing! I also had the flounder sandwich which was delicious just a bit messy. The bill was very cheap which is an added bonus. Overall, good experience
Review Source:We really enjoyed this restaurant as we both tried oysters for the first time! Â We tried two kinds and enjoyed the New Jersey oysters the best. Â We also had a half pound of peel and eat shrimp which was very good. Â The white sangria was refreshing but it was not the best we've had. Â We asked the waitress if anything else on the menu is from New Jersey and she recommended the tomato salad and the scallops. Â The tomato salad was good, but the scallops were amazing! Â We had them pan-seared with the lemon sauce. Â They were cooked perfectly as they were crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside. Â The scallops were a great ending to a very enjoyable dinner experience. Â We will definitely be trying oysters again!
Review Source:I do not eat seafood so I got the buffalo chicken Caesar wrap and it was good!! We did order the calamari to start, which I will only eat a few whenever it's ordered, and I wasn't a big fan of it here. Â Everyone else I was with liked it but me, not being a big seafood eater, found it to have a slight chew to it. Three others got the burger and enjoyed it. One person had the flounder sandwich and she really liked it. One person had one of the oysters as well and found it to be tasty. The meals were good.
The atmosphere was kinda muggy. Where most of the dining area is is right by doors that open to outside seating so since ppl were in and out the air wasn't working great. We were going to sit outside but since it was muggy outside we chose to sit inside. We should have just sat outside..at least there would have been a breeze. It is an oyster bar and seafood place, but just be prepared for the strong fish market smell as soon as you walk in. Â You do end up getting use to the smell.
The waitress we had was super nice and happy!! We were there for a bachelorette party and she was giving us suggestions of places to go that night. Very friendly staff and super nice when we called to say we running a little late. Reservations were also easily changed from 6:30 to 7:30 when we realized we would not be hungry and ready for 6:30 dinner.
The oysters were so good, we came here twice!
Atmosphere: Our dinner date the first night was romantic in the way only a beach casino restaurant can be. We sat outside in the courtyard (which was nice during the sunset but later became so dark that some people had to whip out their phones to see the menu), and a lounge singer dutifully wailed 80's love songs at us from a nearby patch of grass.
Food: Get. the. oysters!! The first night, we had six raw oysters as an appetizer (three Blue Point and three Wianno; we asked the waitress which ones she thought were best that day and she recommended those). The oysters ran $1.75 and were, as she promised, extremely fresh, and the Blue Points were huge! We also shared a large house salad (a fair portion for $8) and the broiled Seafood Combo, which includes a piece of flounder, one crabcake, a few shrimp, two oysters, and fries. The fries were DELICIOUS: seasoned really well, hot, and that perfect medium of crispy and soft. Otherwise, the Seafood Combo was a bit underwhelming in light of the hefty $26 price tag. As we left, we spotted a couple that had only ordered a bottle of wine and a huge platter of raw oysters, and immediately resolved that was the way to do it. So we came back the next day for lunch for six oysters each (we had those monster Blue Points and sweet little Wiannos again, as well as medium-sized Jersey Greats), and a beer each (Blue Point Toasted Lager was yummy and hoppy and about $5).
Service: Both times, our waitresses were really perky and friendly. Wait staff seemed pretty overwhelmed the first night (a busy Sunday), and one waiter was pretty brusque when we asked him a question about the Seafood Combo because we couldn't find our waitress. The next day for lunch, though, our waitress did a great job of being available without hovering.
So all in all, most of the food hovered somewhere between Inoffensive and Pretty Good, but awesome fries, fat fresh oysters, and friendly service = great beach date option!
Sit outside! The atmosphere is so relaxing and they usually have live music playing. They can make most of their alcoholic drinks frozen instead of getting it on the rocks if you ask them. When my boyfriend and I went, we had a great waiter. I just got the beef sliders because I wasn't hungry, but my boyfriend got the pulled pork which was amazing and the fries were great. The pulled pork is a must get!
Review Source:Ordered a seafood sampler plater. Â Frozen lobster and shrimp. Stale... Â Hair in the ceviche... Â The oysters were not cleaned. Had sand and shale in my mouth. Â The clams were old... Â My fingers smelled like I had just came back from salt water fishing... Never again
...............
Update: Â felt like I had to throw up... Â My stomach is usually strong. Â So I went to a Malaysian Chinese restaurant to pad down my stomach with more food. Â Usually works when I feel weak to the stomach. Â
When I came home I booted everything and all I could think was..... Damn I shouldn't of ate the clams...... Â Freshness. Was as fresh as my bait when I go ocean fishing. Â So disappointed. Â Considering the bill was 86$ for two drinks and a large seafood platter. Â
Never again. Â Going to dock's oyster house tomorrow. Â Will keep u posted.
Seafood the way it should be! Â Try the oysters. Â I prefer the Long Island blue points! Â But then again I tried them all and they were all yummy! Â We only came to Harry's because of my oyster craving and ended up ordering the lobster entree also which was fabulous! Â During my visit there was a lot of rain but I was told they offer outdoor seating with views of the boardwalk and live music. Â The place is a bit casual so if you are looking to dress up and impress for a night out, I'm not sure this is the place because the vibe is more of a seafood sports bar. Â But pls don't let that stop you from giving them a try...our waitress was also very knowledgeable and helpful and everything she suggested was on point!
Review Source:OYSTERS!!!!!!!
This is the real deal. None of that NYC-$1 happy hour-size of a dime bullshit. The oysters they serve here must be on steroids.
We ordered the Blue Point (Long Island, NY), Rappahannock (Rappahannock River, VA) and Wianno (Cape Cod, MA) oysters.
I am by no means an oyster expert but they each tasted different from one another. I recommend the blue point!
I also ordered the buffalo chicken Caesar wrap (served with fries and cole slaw). Pretty good! I usually don't really like buffalo wing sauce because it's either too salty or too vinegar-y. But this one was just right.
Their Sangria is not good. It just tasted like straight up juice but then again, I'm not a big fan of sangria. HUGE beer selection that ranges from $5 to $8 which isn't bad at all. You can't go wrong with a good beer!
Would definitely make a stop here next time I'm in AC!
**BEWARE of the seagulls (and pigeons walking around). Saw a man's food almost get attacked and he had to towel whip them away!
This was a very casual place inside Bally's Hotel. The food was decent but I wouldn't say I loved it. We ordered the following and these were our reviews:
1) Pan roasted Crab cakes with lemon beurre blanc. I liked the crab cakes because they are not breaded like some places do to make the crab cakes look bigger. It's purely just lumps of crab meat.
2) Harry's Clam Bake; It has everything you want in seafood and meat categories: clams, mussels, half lobster, seasonal fish, shrimp, scallops, corn, red bliss potatoes and chorizo. Everything was fresh and the stew was good.
The only issue I had about this place was the smell. It had a really bad fish market smell to the restaurant.
I recommend going to the mall across the street from Caesars. I really liked the Continental. The place was cute and the food was amazing. They have seatings  that overlooks the beach outside the restaurant.
I really enjoyed my first time at Harry's. Â My wife was there before and she liked it. Â We had the raw bar tower which consisted of various cold seafood items. Â All were tasty. I then had an additional dozen Oysters which were good and fresh. We ate at the bar and were served by a great bartender, Lauren. Â They had a good beer selection with a nice craft beer draft and bottle list. The decor is very nice and I would have liked to have been outside, but it was getting cold.
Review Source:Good seafood right along the boardwalk. The blackened mahi sandwich featured a large piece of fish and was well seasoned. It came with what seemed to be hand cut fries. The only odd thing was an inability to sub out coleslaw since I'm not a fan of mayo or to get a side item other than fries with the sandwich. My wife had the Cajun fried flounder sandwich and it was worth getting again. It wasn't over breaded and had some spice. The waiter recommended the locally brewed Carton Boat IPA and it went well with my sandwich.
We were there on a Saturday night and sat outside as the band "Tidal Wave" played classic beach hits and also a few older songs that left those of us under 40 a little confused. It's worth a trip to Harry's just to see this band perform.
We went on a weeknight, and the service was a little slow. The staff seemed to be hungover from the weekend, however once we finally got served the food was pretty good. oysters were on point, and the salad was good. I had the Bleu cheese burger and it was cooked to perfection. My girlfriend got the fried oysters and chicken salad, and it was equally as good. I would go back for the food and to see if the service was just a fluke! I will stop by in the summer so we can dine outside.
Review Source:this place is an oasis on the boardwalk. nestled between Johnny Rocket's, Margaritaville, Hard Rock Cafe, and every other commercial chain you would expect to see in a pre-fab tourist zone, there is Harry's, with a lovely selection of oysters and clams, reasonable prices, and a great beer list. what a relief.
the waiter helped me choose 3 oysters and i added 3 clams from the raw bar, all excellent. and a small garden salad, which was actually pretty large. husband had the fried flounder sandwich, also great with thin crispy breading and a fluffy roll. the coleslaw could have been better. very nicely done. so nice, in fact, that i had to take a The Oyster is Your World souvenir tee home with me. :)
Harry's is supposed to be the more affordable version of the Dock's/Knife and Fork group. we visited 2 out of 3 and had fantastic experiences at both.
This place was great! I ordered the crab cake dinner with add-on scallops.. I must mention that the scallops were dee-lish-ous!!!!! I had it pan roasted with lemon beurre blanc sauce.. It was so fresh and good!! Everything else was just as tasty! I am definitely coming back to this spot!!?
Review Source:Excellent oysters and seafood right on the boardwalk. Â Huge bar area inside and dining space outside. Â The bartender was an informative friendly large man from the Isle of Wight.
Big TVs and a nice beer selection. Â I enjoyed my 9 local oysters and grilled tilapia with steamed vegetables. Â The prices were better than inside casinos.
Harry's had some of the freshest oysters I have ever had anywhere. They has a wide variety of oysters, the blue points were the best! Got the scallops there and it was delicious, grilled and on top of a bed on cooked veggies and assortment of potatoes. Not too overly priced and staff was very attentive and helpful. Will most likely come back.
Review Source:Every time I go to Atlantic City, I stop at Harry's for late lunch. Â What do I eat? Â Oysters!
I have probably tried all their main oyster selections but have really enjoyed the Cape May Salts and the Blue Points. Â Per the staff they suggest the Blue Point Ales and are usually a good choice. Â My gal and I usually drink Belgian style whites, though try their Allagash White. Â Oysters have been cold and no fishy smell. Â My wife had the clam chowder, very good. Â We usually get an order of calamari or two as well. Â Outstanding in my opinion. Â Had a front row seat last time to watch my ex-beloved Broncos get beat by newly beloved Ravens. Â I will be there on Sunday. Â Would love some Saturday tickets to the AC Beer fest! Â Love AC! Â
Big Bri
Not sure why Harry's only has 3 stars. I really liked this place. If you take the Total Express Bus/Shuttle, it drops you off right in front of Harry's entrance at Bally's.
Came here at an awkward time to eat very late lunch at 3-4PM. Their Happy Hour starts  at 4PM, but make sure you're at the bar because you can't take advantage of the specials if you're not at the bar. The special for beer is not that great. Only a $1 off, but cocktails were $5 during Happy Hour, $10 any other time.
As soon as you walk in, it smells much like seafood but not the unappetizing kind. Sat in the back facing the boardwalk, but it wasn't much of a view since it was raining.
Got the Seafood Combo for $26 & the Fresh Catch with Baked Salmon with wine wine and herb (?) and the sides (veggies & roasted potatoes) for $19. The Seafood Combo was pretty big. Not too big on the trout (?) and the shrimp, but Harry's crabcakes are the BOMB. Please get their crabcakes! SOOO good.
Salmon was great, too. It was baked really well.
Overall, food was great, but it wasn't spectacular. I'd definitely recommend the crabcakes, though.
Service was really great, too. Our table was cleaned up right after we finished our food, and the waiter was very attentive not only to our table but his other tables as well. :)
3 star food, 5 star service.
The hostess was super nice, and called us when our table was ready (~30-45 minute wait). When we arrived, our table was being set up which worked out for us as two of our party were still heading over.
Our waitress, was fantastic. She was really knowledgeable about the menu and quick to give recommendations. Drinks were promptly refilled.
As for the food... we had the half of the Raw Bar Sampler ($29). Not worth the price; oysters/clams were good, ceviche didn't taste like ceviche (didn't really taste the lime, overpowered by avocado and peppers), lobster tasted dry, tiny portion of crabmeat. Our waitress did hook us up by allowing us to pick our oysters (Cape Cod).
My friend really enjoyed his Crab Cake Sandwich ($15.5). Another friend wasn't impressed by his Black Angus Burger ($10), tasted too dry and it didn't look like medium-rare to me. He asked for honey mustard, our waitress told us it wasn't in stock so he asked for ranch. A little while later, she arrives with a cup of honey mustard. How? Don't know, we just accepted this sorcery (sauce was runnier than what you'd get from a bottle, but delicious).
I had some grilled shrimp with the lemon beurre blanc ($20). Roasted vegetables and potatoes were great, not overcooked and the potatoes had a nice crisp. For a seafood place, I expected the shrimp to be the star of the dish. Too bad, the sauce was nice but couldn't hide the fact that all of the six pieces of shrimp were dry and overcooked on the outside. No grill char marks either? How did both of these things happen?
Crowd was boisterous, with (drunk?) bachelorettes running around which I found entertaining. I'd stick to individually ordering from the raw bar to avoid overpriced food.
I waiver between 3 and 4 stars on this one, but figure I'll just go with 4. The atmosphere and decor were alright (3 stars). The service was decent, but not great (3 stars). The food was actually pretty good (4 stars). I happily ate everything I ordered.
The oysters with bell peppers and other stuff were quite good. They were basically a play on oysters rockefeller. Â I could've done without all the salt that was really just for presentation. But otherwise, they were tasty.
The caesar salad was, well, a caesar. All good quality ingredients and the dressing was good. Nothing notable or different about it. But it was a good salad.
The wings were great. Nice and meaty and good flavors in the sauce and seasoning. I would've liked for them to be spicier, but for only offering one option, they were at least not mild. And the dipping sauce was fabulous.
Overall, had a pretty good meal here.
Harry's was a solid 3.5 for me. A group of 8 of us had a late dinner here on the Saturday night during Yelp Winter Break.
Initially we had to wait awhile before dinner because of the wait list. I gave them phone number, and they called when the table was ready. Our server didn't come over immediately. We waited for him quite a bit through the meal which I was though was both an annoyance and problematic. One thing he did do right is get everyone's order in without any mistakes that I know of. I can appreciate that at least.
The menu has a wide range in pricing. Since I didn't want to break my bank, I went with two appetizers. I ordered  Caesar salad along with fried calamari. Both were generous portions and very nice for dinner.
In addition to my appetizers, I ordered two oysters from Cape Cod. I couldn't come here without getting the oysters too! The oysters are served a la carte ranging from $1.75-$3 depending on what you choose and what region the oysters come from. The served oysters that were primarily from the mid Atlantic coast up to Maine
I think I would have had a better time if the service wasn't so spotty. It is decent food though.
Let me just say this ...
On a whim we came here last year for Super Bowl 2012. Â Great time. Â Had to come a bit early since we didn't have "reservations".
Flash forward, came here on Dec, 2012, asked about Super Bowl on 2/3/2013.  Was told they were taking reservations, wide open, Credit Card needed to hold.  Gave Name, CC, party #.  On that date, 12.XX, 2012 the Hostess said, where would you like to sit for that day ... she suggested a high top in the  BAR and we ACCEPTED.
Friday, FEBRUARY 1, got call from Harry's Seafood confirming reservation. Â So all is good.
Sunday, February 3, 2013, arrive 3:45 PM. Â Told confirmed for party of 4, not yet ready to seat. Â All 3 hostess deer in headlights!
Proceed to bar, get drinks, tell bartender only there until get seated. Â 30 minutes LATER hostess proceeds to seat us at the OUTSIDE ENCLOSED SEATING AREA! Â POLITELY told her we were guaranteed seating at specific 4 Person HIGH TOP in bar area when RESERVATIONS WERE MADE ON 12/23!
NASTY MANAGER SAID ITS SOLD OUT AND WE DID THE SEATING TWO NIGHTS PRIOR TO TODAY! Â NO EXCEPTIONS! DON'T CARE WHO YOU ARE OR WHEN YOU MADE THE RESERVATIONS!
So we went to our table. Â It was LOUD AS HELL in there. Â Food SUCKED! Â Margarita Pizza for $10 ... piece of raw dough, with a few chunks of tomato, mozzorella and white cream sauce. Â AWFUL! Â As was the rest of the food!
HOWEVER, we spent well over $200 and tipped the server his well deserved 20% in spite of the BULLSHIT! Â WILL NOT GO BACK NEXT YEAR! Â
P.S.WAS BETWEEN ROCK AND A HARD PLACE no where else to go since we were not locals, that's why we didn't leave. Â However, we did GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE WHEN THE POWER WENT DOWN!
This place doesn't even deserve to be open. It was insanely bad and an embarrassing excuse of a restaurant. We would have been better off at Tropicana's "Hooters."
My friend recently got married at the wedding venue in the Pier in Atlantic City. She's having a large reception in a couple months but wanted to have a small reception immediately after the wedding. Her father booked a reception here for about 30 people after the wedding and I can't say how horrified I was.
Ill start with the food which was mediocre at best. The clams casino tasted like they dumped a spoonful of pickled relish over the clam. Although the clam itself was very tasty, it was a sorry excuse for a clam casino. The fried oysters were tasteless even with the tarter sauce they brought to the table for them. I can't believe they were even offered to us. I expected the tuna tartare to be much better than it was. The tuna was good but the "soy dressing" that garnishes it was M.I.A. It was basically tuna on top of a tortilla chip. Unimpressed. The pork sliders were the best thing on the menu and that obviously wasn't even seafood.
Not only was the food terrible, the service gave me enough ammo to complain about. Like I said, we had about 25-30 people and the party package allowed the waiters to keep bringing out food. Not only did they not bring out enough for the tables, they would drop the food off 9 times out of 10 at one particular table, never in front of the bride and groom. She had to fight for food and most of the time it was gone before it got to her. The waiters would drop the food off and disappear for a while leaving the guests to try and distribute food to one another. The father of the bride took it upon himself to distribute food to the tables to make sure everyone was satisfied. This is UNACCEPTABLE. The waiters should have been doing this in order to allow the party to relax and have a good time.
My next complaint was how slow our waitress was. I asked her about three times for a Bloody Mary before she remembered and brought me one... nearly at the end of my meal. There were two times when we asked for something and got an attitude or shrug of the shoulder from one waiter. I understand he was basically the only one doing anything but they should have given him a bit more help. It was not okay.
Lastly, I have to say that I have witnessed the WORST costumer service ever while dining here. We had our reservations for 3pm. The party ate and ate and ate. After we were finished eating, the party stayed until about 7pm order HUNDREDS of dollars worth of drinks until we were kicked out. At about 7pm, a waiter came over and asked the father of the bride if we could leave because they needed the table for another reservation. Excuse me? We are paying costumers. Not only are we here for a wedding dinner, we are continuously ordering. It was not as if we were sitting there with nothing in front of us using your space. It was horribly rude. Is it our fault that you overbooked for the night? How dare you ask a costumers to leave who have spent A LOT of money at your restaurant. This was completely unacceptable and the manager of the restaurant was oblivious to the problem. I can not imagine being treated like that at a Denny's let alone a raw bar.
Because of this, I will NEVER come here again.I have heard nothing but good reviews for one of their other restaurants, Dock's and Knife and Fork and because of this, I will not be taking my business there either.
If it were strictly for the food for this bad review, I Â most likely would have tried Harry's again when I was not with such a large party but you can bet that I will not be there again in this lifetime or next.
2.5 stars for total middle of the road mediocrity. Nothing to complain about, but also nothing to rave about.
Crab chowder was not especially flavorful but didn't skimp on the crab. Ditto for the crab cakes. Â Cajun shrimp were a respectable size and cooked right, but the batter had a weird texture and the seasoning was meh.
Bottom line: seafood can be so much better than this.
I went to Harry's Oyster Bar to watch the Monday night football (I was the only Redskins fan amongst NY Giants fan). The fans in the bar were friendly. I enjoyed my experience at Harry's Oyster Bar. During the games Harry's has good food and drink specials .The 50 cent wings and $2 beef sliders were tasty. I sat at the bar and watched the game. The bartender was friendly and very attentive. There are many televisions throughout the restaurant. Harry's Oyster Bar is a good bar to watch sports. I will explore the menu(seafood) next time I visit Harry's Oyster Bar.
Review Source:This place was extremely -superbly -incredibly....Not bad
And its price tag which does not match the quality or 'style'. Its like buying a Honda and getting charged for a Lamborghini.
Waitress was nice, a tad cute which through off my judgement but let's stay focused here people!!
Right, appetizer, 'Raw Bar' $60 Holy S! Ok well it was $58 but who's counting. Came with a full (small) lobster, some oysters, clams shrimp and a few other things. (Look at my pic of it to see).
Now, main courses, Mahi Mahi tacos (I'll only have one Mahi, I'm not that hungry  *movie humor*) $20. Worth it?... No. The fish was a tad overcooked and the flavor was meh.
The good? Try the buffalo fried oysters, my friend got them. Very unique and a great dish. (i love oysters, i love spicy and i love fried).
All in all, it felt like an Applebees serving seafood and charging way too much for it. If that's how your going to operate, at least be a bit more creative with your dishes.
Having been to the mussel bar the previous night, visited Harruys for late lunch the next day. Â Can't really compare the two, but I'd say I enjoyed Harry's much better.
Ordered 6 different oysters and 1/2 lb of shrimp, which were delicious! Â My favorites were the blue point and cape may salt.
Also had the clam chowder (as others mentioned, less creamy than what you would normally expect), house salad, clams in white sauce and the nachos with pulled pork.
Out of all the above, the nachos were the least impressive. Â However, the dish was quite large, more than enough for a group of 4 to share.
The clams were great, and our server Mark was very attentive (albeit, the place was not busy at 3:30PM).
I'd definitely stop by again, probably just for oysters and shrimp.
For a casino restaurant...heck, for any restaurant, Harry's Oyster Bar is great! Â They offer a reasonably priced menu, delicious fish and oysters, and awesome happy hour and gametime specials, topped off by friendly, down to earth service (thanks Doug!).
Their menu (menu here: <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.harrysoysterbar.com%2Fadmin%2Fuploads%2Fmenu_6-27-12_merged.pdf&s=1654f0bfaa422974f58400026f73986d9e3aa311de87c44a443ba97118f6c498" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.harrysoysterb…</a>) reminded me a lot of Legal Sea Foods - raw bar selections, sandwiches, soups, salads, specialty fish dishes, and lastly, the "build-your-own" section.  We all opted for the last section, where you choose your fish, cooking style, and sauce.  The three of us all chose different fish, sauces, and prep, and obviously shared a taste of our dishes to get a better idea of the options.  Fish & prep for all three were juicy and flavorful (even the grilled option, surprisingly), and sauces were good, although I found the black bean and corn "salsa" to be a bit dry.  It was more just black beans and corn...
Peruse through the pictures and other reviews, and you'll see Harry's offers indoor and outdoor seating, with ample bar space in both locations. Â Although we sat outdoors, the indoor space has a nice "lived-in" feel to it, a pleasant departure from the other mostly sterile, overly decorated casino restaurants.
Whether you're cruising down the boardwalk, or simply casino hopping between Caesar's and Bally, Harry's is definitely worthy of a pit stop.
I usually shy away from casino/resort restaurants for numerous, and mostly obvious reasons, but I decided to make an exception here due to the positive reviews I read. Located on the boardwalk alcove of Bally's, Harry's provides either inside or outside seating options, including an outside bar. Since it was a beautiful day, I opted for the latter.
Oysters? Yep. Ordered half a dozen of Jersey Greats, which was a very accurate description. While waiting for my order and enjoying an Apricot wheat draft, I couldn't help but notice I was seated next to four middle-aged women, who were obviously enjoying some sort of "girls' trip" to A.C. And apparently they had also been "enjoying" the bar for awhile already. Very entertaining and funny conversations amongst everyone, considering it was only midday.
Eventually they (as well as the entertainment) left and I finished my oysters, leading me to head inside for the afternoon. If you're roaming hungry or thirsty down the boardwalk, take a break and stop by.
I feel like this place just appeared out of nowhere as I was walking down the AC boardwalk. We walked in at about 4:00 PM but there was still a bit of a wait. It took about 30 minutes for a table of 4 to be ready which was kind of weird since there were several booths and tables available when we walked in.
Oyster crackers were available as soon as we were seated. Everything on the menu looked great. I sampled a little of what everyone at my table ordered and nothing disappointed. The sangria by the pitcher tasted great and it was economical. The sundae was a great dessert for sharing.
The staff seemed a bit dazed. It was annoying to see them power walk to meet their co- workers and talk but when it came to addressing their customers, they dragged their feet.
Pros: Great food, sangria,
Cons: Staff.
Harry's is a nice spot in the courtyard of Bally's. Other reviewers are correct in stating that the portions are big but service is slow. Â It's not that it is just slow but the servers seem to disappear for periods of time. Â We came to Harry's twice, once for a snack and once for lunch. When we came for a snack we got the oysters and the nachos. Â The nachos were good and you really get a mountain of them. The oysters were about $2 each and they have a good selection. They were really good! The next time we came for lunch. Â The chicken wrap was dry, the pulled pork was really good. Â
Harry's had outdoor musicians both times. The first night the band was too loud, the second time we ate inside so we didn't hear the one man band.
I'd give Harry's 3 stars if it was based on food alone. I had the crab cake sandwich and some New England clam chowder and both were decent, albeit different from what I'm normally used to. The clam chowder was more soup-like than the usual thick chowder, but it was still good in its own way (at least it made me feel like less of a fattie). The crab cake sandwich consisted of a generously-sized crab cake served with lettuce, tomato and onion on a bun - my only complaint here is that they mixed an overwhelming amount of peppers into the crab cake...and that the bun literally broke apart the moment I picked it up. The fries that came with the sandwich were also decent. Â If you're into fruity drinks, I highly recommend the Wild Berry Mojito. it's like a mojito mixed with a berry smoothie, super delish! Â
The service, however, is bad enough to warrant a -1. I usually don't care much about the service as long as they bring me my food and check, but this place was just on a wholeeee other level. We were there before 5:00pm and even at that time, it took forever to flag down someone to get some water and place our order. After that came the saga of waiting for our food. Not sure why it took so long, one can only hope they were de-shelling the crab for my crab cake right then and there. What made it worse was where we were sitting, I could actually see into the kitchen and the area around it. I must have spotted 10+ employees wearing Harry's T-shirts standing inside the kitchen area just chilling. I can't tell you if they were servers or cooks, what I CAN tell you is they certainly weren't doing their jobs.
Would I recommend this place to someone going to AC? I don't know. Honestly, it's slim pickings on the Atlantic City Boardwalk. It's either fast food, casino buffets or casino restaurants. There's also a couple of places on the top level of the Pier Shops, but none of those looked that enticing either. If you can deal with the service (or lack thereof), maybeee check it out?
FYI -- happy hour only applies if you sit at the bar.
I'm upgrading Harry's because they are the best and most reasonably-priced oysters I've had in AC. I most recently slurped down Jersey Greats at the outside bar on a Saturday night while listening to music from the beach bar, drinking a deliciously spicy Bloody Mary and being entertained by our Austrailian bartender whose name escapes me, but he was freaking awesome. Quick with refills for boyfriend, always ready with a witty quip, and paced our meal expertly so we weren't swallowed by plates.
Boyfriend and I also shared an order of chicken nachos, which were actually topped with pulled pork upon delivery. Best. Mistake. Ever. No joke. I consider myself a nacho conniosseur, and these were some of the best I've ever had. The pork was savory and flavorful and the rest of the ingredients were just as delicious. Totally unexpected and totally worth many return visits.
I'm not a huge fan of casino restaurants, but this is probably my favorite for no-frills shucks.
We came to AC on one of those casino buses, more so for a cheap ride to the shore and not so much for anything else. After spending most of our day on the beach and boardwalk, I had a hankering for oysters, but we needed to be close to the Bally's bus terminal for our scheduled ride back. Harry's Oyster Bar...how perfect!
All we had time for was one drink and a couple dozen oysters. The prices for oysters are great, especially for the area. They had one type of oyster on Happy Hour for a buck each, so you know we jumped on it! We had a few varieties of oysters and they were all fresh and delish! Our Bloody Mary's weren't bad either.
I had to rush our server and close the bill as soon as our order arrived. He was accommodating and totally sweet the whole time. I wish I had a bit more time to spend here. I wish I could've ordered more so that I could have a better review...or maybe not. Looks like many of my fellow Yelpers aren't too fond of the food here, but I still need to make my own judgment, right?
No complaints on the little bit we did manage to squeeze in.
