Went there on a regular Wednesday night, not knowing what to expect as far a crowd. Dinner was good and  I'd definitely order the pulled pork sliders again- however when we were attempting to leave it took us a solid 45 minutes to get our bill, which we had asked for a few times. I was confused by the delay, as there did not seem to be a whole lot going on.
My friend and I stuck around the bar and came in and out throughout the night. The crowed picked up slightly but regardless of the activity our bartender Lindsey was attentive and very fun to get along with. She definitely convinced us to come back again and told us Tuesday night trivia was a solid staple of the bar. Excited for my next visit!
I usually go to Hawkeye's for lunch during work for a quick meal and a cocktail. The food is average and the drinks are good. The environment is friendly and most times, I never have any issue. The last time I went, though, my friend and I noticed that there were gnats flying around us while we were eating. There wasn't a swarm of gnats, per se, but  definitely enough to make enjoying your meal extremely difficult. We continuously had to swat away these annoying flying insects.
When I was able to get the attention of  our friendly and talkative waitress to mention the flying vermin, she casually mentioned that they have been having a problem with gnats lately. She added that "they" had no idea where they were coming from....*Insert Cricket Sound Here*
Wrong move.
We immediately discontinued our meal, paid the check, and left. We left with the absolute certainty that we would not ever be returning to Hawkeye's.
I'll miss my little lunch getaway place, but any restaurant that knowingly has flying insects around food and drinks is not a place that I want to dine.
