This place is the quintessential neighborhood taco joint/neighborhood bar. Â It doesn't bet more "local" in flavor than this.
I used to go here frequently in the late 90s when I worked at Excite@Home. I ventured back today as I'm now working in Redwood City....and the place has not changed a bit!
The left side of Headquarters is a crusty, old sports bar that shows the soccer matches from the satellite dish. Â The beer looked cheap. Â The bar actually had a few locals in there at noon sipping away. Â The left side is a tacqueria serving the traditional Mexican food. Â
The food is decent...but nothing to 4 star on Yelp about. Â The big win is the mix of people during the lunch rush. Â Headquarters serves the local industrial population working at the machine and door/window shops in the area...along with the pleated pant and security badge types who occupy the cubes in the converted old warehouses that now house high-tech companies. Â It's fun to watch the facial expressions as these two demographics work together in their quest for cheap lunch time Mexican food. Â
For those tracking Valley lore, Headquarters may have been the location of many lunch time discussions by the innovative AMPEX team. Â Who knows, the early VCR may have been invented on a cocktail napkin here!
If you are in the Redwood City area, check this place out.
