I have actually been here quite a number of times with friends and recently with family and I have to say that it is a really nice, chill, place to be at.
Let me start off with the ambience. I know what you may be thinking as soon as you walk in here. "Damn... I this might be the last game of pool I play here...". Rest assured however, this is a very chill bar. Occasionally you may see a large party of people come on in but they always keep to themselves. The best thing is that if you're afraid of someone possibly going over their drinking limit, the bar tenders will cut that person off and there would be no problems. So feel free to come with your group of friends!
Happy Hour is Monday through Fridays (i may be wrong a day) from 2 to 7 pm. $2.75 while having a choice between Bud light, Coors, and Budweiser. Not the best beers (in my opinion of course) but good enough to drink while enjoying a game of pool.
The food here i would probably not recommend but if you are really hungry and craving something to eat, go ahead get their tacos, especially if it's taco night haha
If you want to play a game of pool I believe that they charge $5 for the hour and you're going to have to give them a California ID hold on to while you play. They want to make sure nobody runs off without paying for their game.
Overall this is a great place to hang out and have fun with friends. I wouldn't recommend you coming alone and this is just for your safety. Although to be quite honest, this area in Highland Park as become generally more safer because of the gentrification going along York Blvd., but never be afraid to stop by for some fun!
Located right next to the half block of hipsterville that exists on York, it reflects none of that which is a beautiful thing. Â Highland Park Billiards makes you feel as if you are walking into a pool hall in any random Mexican town minus the fact you cant smoke inside. Â Latinos of all ages, sipping Mexican beers plus Bud light, playing pool, and eating burgers.
My friend swears by the burgers, I was slightly less impressed but ate mine with joy. Â The burgers are frozen patty, big bun, with tons of toppings, like all the sauces and random toppings one can shove on a burger, come on this burger. Â Tasty but very little of the meat comes through. Â I do like the sauce dripping off since the frozen patty from Food 4 Less isn't exciting. Â
Would rather eat street tacos but respect the place for the Mexican authenticity.
