It's a good solid 4 stars, not because it's one of the best bars out there... but for it's purpose and for what it's intended to be.
What it's intended to be is a local, easy going, fun bar. Â I hesitate to use the word dive, because it's so overused and dumb. Â They're not TRYING to be a dive... I would assume they're trying to get as many customers as possible for what they have to work with. Â
I must mention the ping pong table: Â It's covering the pool table which one reviewer disliked... but hey, highland billiards is literally across the street. Â I think the ping pong thing was a good choice. Â I hate playing ping pong at johnny's because I don't get to exercise my true ability (which isn't great)... but I still like that it's an option and it's fun.
Good bar, staple of Highland Park. Â I hope it never goes away ever. Â
(and the only reason it's not 5 star, is partly because of things out of their control, and partly because if I were choice-maker, I might do a couple things different, but they're great... Not five star. Â But good fun neighborhood bar.)
